Linksys Wired Router :: BEFSR41 V4.3 / Error - Wrong Gateway Input After Firmware Upgraded
Aug 14, 2011
I have upgraded the firmware on my Linksys BEFSR41 V4.3 router. On this router i used Statis IP (so DHCP enabled). This worked fine on my network, until this upgrade. Now when i try to ad another static IP , or when i want to change something in the Routing-tab, i get this message ' Wrong Gateway Input! It should be the same subnet with WAN IP'. Strange because i haven't changed anything in the settings.I already did a complete reset on the router, still the same problem.

I own a Linksys BEFSR41 v 3.1. I've been attempting to set up a home network with three computers; my main desktop running Windows 7 Pro x64, a netbook running the same OS and a box running Windows Home Server 2011 x64. The firmware listed for my router was initially 1.05.03.
My router has the issue with resetting its administrative password to the factory default and I've been unable to set up remote access to my LAN and home server. I decided to try updating the router's firmware, but none of the versions listed fit the one I have. The label on my router says v 3.1, but Cisco's site only has a 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, then skips to 4.1, 4.2, etc. The instructions on the site warn not to use a version for a different model, but are vague as to exactly what that refers to, as the model # and the version # aren't clearly delineated.
Anyway, I tried using the latest firmware and received the, "File Pattern," error. Although it didn't seem like anything had changed, I reset the router just to be safe, then tried the v 3.0 firmware update, thinking that the software was intended for all revisions of v3.0. This time it reported updating without a problem, so I reset the router again and went back to the admin page in my browser to check the firmware version listed. To my annoyance, the firmware is now listed as 1.05.00 - i.e. an earlier version than what was shipped on the router.
This means that not only is the issue of the password resetting not fixed, but any other fixes included in the original firmware are now wiped out as well and, needless to say, I still can't set up remote access properly.
How do I restore the firmware version? Neither a reset nor a, "Restore to Factory Defaults," does this. How do I find an actual update for the router? I can't find any mention of a v 3.1 on Cisco's site, let alone support information specific to this model and version.

I have a BEFSR41 that often goes brain-dead and the DHCP stops working. I've tried three times to download and install new firmware but it always fails with a "pattern mismatch". My current firmware version is 2.00.02 and the file I am downloading is 2.00.04 build 8. Yes, I have verified that my hardware version is 4.3.The download file from this website is corrupted.

A router newbie here. Running XP Pro with Comcast Cable. Want to install a BEFSR41 V2.1 as firewall, and add a second PC later.
Q. Which firmware version is the most up to date?
Q. How do I install the firmware?
Q. Will I need to manually enter any Comcast information?
Q. Is there a step by step installation tutorial?

I have what I believe is an original (V1) version of the BEFSR41 gateway/router. The label underneath the device only shows the model number with no version information. Current firmware version on the device is 1.46.02, dated Aug 03 2004.
Can I confirm (1) that I indeed this router is at hardware version 1? If that is the case it appears from your web site that version 1.46.02 is in fact the current and only firmware version for the device and that there are no firmware version upgrades available.
The DHCP software current does not have IP address reservation, which I am interested in adding if possible via firmware upgrade. If not then I have to consider whether I want this feature bad enough to replace the router.

2 brand new routers (BEFSR41 v4.3) Firmware - 2.00.4 Build 8, 10-19-2010 - both same problems:Frequent Internet drops, daily resets required.I'm 99.9% sure there's either a defect in this model, or a serious screwup in this firmware. My router uses an IP address, with DHCP off. Also, we have cable modem. Plugging in directly to cable modem works fine.I am an experienced network admin, so refrain from the usual reset / try again response. Have there been many issues with this model and / or firmware? Have there been many returns?

I have a BEFSR41 that has been flawless to date but it is version 1 (I think). I have gigabit nics on all PCs but I am wondering if the old version 1 is only capable of 10mbps throughput. If that is the case then it may explain why I can get up to 20mbps download speeds off the modem and under 10mbps off the router. The router has the latest firmware and otherwise no problems.

I have a home network with a wired BEFSR41 that, for a variety of reasons, MUST be manually IP configured (DHCP off). All computers and other devices connected to it are manually IP configured. I desire to add a device that cannot be manually configured, and needs DHCP. I therefore need to daisy-chain two routers with the second one DHCP on (and manual IP connection to the main network). The new device needs two-way internet access, but doesn't care if it sees any other current network devices. I've tried several configurations, none seem to work.

I was having problems with the speed being between 30-58 kpbs when going through the WRT160N router, whether its hooked up wired or wireless, the speed with both was extremely slow and wouldnt fully open pager or would take dsl day slow. I hooked up straight to modem and I got 100+ kpbs so I figured its not my ISP, so I read that upgrading my firmware might make it faster, so I upgraded and hit and held the reset button for 30 secs like it recommended but now the 192.168.1.1 wont open, I get a message saying it cant open this page

I'd like to add a WRT54g2 to my LAN. I'd like it to communicate with my existing LAN router, and not to talk directly to the LAN. Therefore, in Basic Setup, I don't have the top part (Internet Setup) configured. Is that a mistake? But, it seems that when I enable DHCP, it hands out its own IP as gateway, and then doesn't seem to send the traffic on upstream. When I configure clients manually with the real router IP, they work fine.
So, I'd like, I guess, Linksys to forward traffic on a static route to real router. How do I do this? Adding a route to real router yields the error, "maybe default route already exists."

I just setup my new Cisco EA4500 and upgraded to latest firmware and signed up for my account.Local access to the router works fine and I see the Smart Wi-Fi admin/config interface However when I try to go to the following site: url...To access Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Tools, your router <em>requires</em> the <a href="url...Series Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Firmware</a> and you will need to associate your router with your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account. On a computer or device connected to your router, open url... and follow the instructions. This requires that you enter the router password so have that ready.
However I see no way to perform the association step - my account exists and my router is configured.I am doing all this behind this router wi-fi network not remotely.

I have not had any problem in the span of using this model and version before. Should I be looking for firmware upgrade or a new router? Operating system is MAC OSX 10.5. I have a Century Link DSL connection in my house and its working fine. I just got a new Linksys BEFSR41 v.3. I am trying to set it up for my PC, Xbox360 and BD player. Everything works fine when I plug them in to the DSL modem 1 by 1 but when I try to put the Linksys "in the middle"... nothing... So I'm pretty sure its not my DSL modem or connection. All the lights come up on the Linksys as they should (power, internet and the Ethernet) but for some reason it seems the internet not getting trought the router. When its connected and I pull up my internet browser I type 192.168.1.1 and it takes me to the linksys config site. Without the router in the same address go to the Westell site as thats my DSL modem. Everything looks fine on the config site. All the correct IP, MAC, DNS address are there and still no internet access on any of my device.

Comcast upgraded me to a 30 Mbps speed, and my trusty old BEFSR41 v2 doesn't cut it. Cisco promotes wireless routers with a 1 Gbps ethernet, I would rather have a wired router, and use a WAP that I can unplug when I am not using it, since, for now, I only connect my work notebook wirelessly. Most wireless routers also generate a lot more heat than a wired one does, and I don't need any more heat in my Houston home.A new BEFSR41 v4.3 is only 10/100 Mbps. There doesn't seem to be any 1 Gbps wired routers for home use. Will a new BEFSR41 give me 100% of the cable Dociss 3.0 speed, or would I need to get a 1 Gbps router to get the fastest throughput? Or do I only need to upgrade when the cable speed increases closer to 100 Gbps?If a 1 Gbps router is better, are there any simple business wired routers you could recommend?

I have recently been having difficulty with my router. We have 2 computers and our xbox hooked up to the router and for the last few days whenever both of the computers are in use we experience frequent disconnects. It does not happen when it is just one computer and the xbox running, but as soon as both computers are in use it happens. The disconnects are very brief but extremely frustrating when I'm trying to play a game. I have the most up to date firmware according to the linksys site

I have a linksys router(befsr41 v3) with the latest firmware(1.05.00) - i have been using it for at least 7 or 8 years now - at one time i had 3 computers hooked up and they all three worked fine. Now i have 2 plugged into the router - both are xppro machines - the one i am on now works with no problems. The other computer however has the limited or no connectivity problem.I used this router for years without any problems then one day this ip conflict message started to appear.
I started getting this ip conflict message on both computers but only occasionaly - it never caused any problems - if you ignored it - it would simply go away. Then one day computer #2 got the limited or no connectivity message - i simple reboot fixed it. This solution worked several times. Computer #1 has never had any problems with the internet connection.Sometime later the limited or no connectivity problem reappeared and this time a reboot did not work - i searched for a fix and decided to try changing the link speed from auto sense to 10mb half duplex - this solved the problem. This solution worked several times.
Sometime after that the limited or no connectivity reappeared and after some searching i upgraded the routers firmware - this solved the problem.Sometime later the limited or no connectivity reappeared and this time i had to actually uninstall the NIC, reboot and then let it redetect the NIC and then the problem was fixed. This solution worked several times.Sometime later (wich brings us to 3 or 4 months ago) the limited or no connectivity reappeared and this time after searching for a fix i was able to fix it by updating the NIC drivers. Problem solved.
This brings us to now - the limited or no connectivity has reappeared and none of the previous fixes correct the problem. When i originally set everything up it worked immediately out of the box.DHCP is enabled - everything is set to obtain an ip address automatically. At first the event viewer on computer #2 reported The IP address lease 192.168.1.100 for the Network Card with network address 0xxxxxxxxx has been denied by the DHCP server 192.168.1.1. {The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message}.
Now the even viewer just tells me it is using ip address 169.254.xxxxxx
I have tried all of the previous fixes to no avail. I've tried shutting everything off and turning everything back on - i've tried resetting both the modem and the router - i've tried upgrading the firmware again. I even downloaded LELA and installed it on both computers thinking maybe it would detect and fix the problem buy no such luck. LELA simply tells me that computer #1 is working normally. On computer #2 when i installed LELA the first thing it did was try to find the router and it tells me it cannot find it.
I tried uninstalling the NIC and removing the drivers, rebooting and then reinstalling them. No luck.
I tried setting a static ip on computer #2 with no luck. When i did these two error messages appeared in the event viewer of computer #1---
The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer (computer #2) that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip_{0876E9A8-C6E. The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced.
The name "MSHOME:1d" could not be registered on the Interface with IP address 192.168.1.100. The machine with the IP address 192.168.1.20 did not allow the name to be claimed by this machine.
If I ping the router from computer #2 it comes back 100% loss.
If I ping the NIC it comes back 0% loss.
I might also add that I can see both computer #1 and #2 in my home network workgroup on both computers. I've tried ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew - I've tried it one after the other and also a reboot in between. I've tried clicking on repair in the LAN status - I've tried resetting the ip stack with the netsh command - I've even tried different cables and switching ports on the router.

We have a VPN setup between two Cisco RV082 routers, the VPN status shows as connected however I can't ping the other network. I am unable to ping between routers, let alone ping computers behind those routers.
We have 2 branches, branch 1 is on a static IP and branch 2 is Dynamic. I am able to connect via QuickVPN from Branch 2 to Branch 1 and remote desktop to computers, however have yet to VPN/remote desktop in the opposite direction.
To me it seems like a firewall issue at branch 2, but what's causing this. Also they are currently running 2 differnet firmware version not sure if this would cause a problem.
