I use steed test appnto check the speed of my wireless. I am connected to 5ghz band and using the app most of the time my download speed are between 10-20 Mbps (red line range in app). View 1 RepliesI just discovered that my wireless download speeds are 5Mbps, compared to 16Mbps if my laptop is connected directly to the modem or wired through the router. Uploads are 2Mbps either way. I have a WRT54GS v.6 with firmware version v1.52.8 which I updated today, completed by setting factory default through the router webpage after I discovered this discrepancy. The firmware update did not improve the download speed appreciably, if at all.Should the wireless connection be that much slower than the wired connection through the router? If not, what sort of issues could I be having to account for this?
I did just replace my modem when I discovered I was having erratic speedtests and that corrected that problem. That is when I became aware of the wireless issue, so not sure how long that has been the case. I have Charter's 16/2 HSI, living in a sparsely populated area with solid internet service. There is no external nor internal interference on this 2.4Ghz band.
Since we purchased our router in February, we've had intermittent problems with speed, and now it seems to be permanent. If we connect directly to the Comcast modem, everything is fine. If we connect to the router, directly or wirelessly, speeds drop to <3.

It seems to be working fine for a day or so, but eventually the speed and range goes back to being pretty bad!Even with my Ipad or Ipod touch right next to my router, my speed is cut in half compared to the PC connected via Ethernet to the EA 4500 (24 Mbps on PC side and 0.5-10 Mbps on wireless devices.)This router is a really big disappointment for me. It seems very unstable.

When I changed from a D-link dir-615 (yeah, no wonder I changed it ) my download speed dropped from 4-5 MB/s to 1,3 MB/s. I'm using a wired connection. Have tried disabling QoS in router settings, did a firmware upgrade, reset the router. You see, when I do speed tests on the internet I get 40-50 mbits download, 25-30 mbits upload. I have tried many different files to download, both torrents and through my browser.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have tried all the speed test sites and tried downloads with and without my EA2700. Every test shows about half the perfomance when connected through the router. My speed tests at speedtest.net with a direct connection are in the 21-26Mbps range, the same tests run about a minute later through the EA2700 fall in the 10-12Mbps range with spikes up to 17Mbps.I've reset the router and modem.I've gone back to the 1.0.14.129982 Firmware (which it's currently on)I've set the MTU everywhere from 1400 to 1500 (literally EVERY setting for at least a couple of hours) it is 1492 currently. None of these have worked. In addition, when a large stream starts, such as a Steam download, I will lose ALL connectivity. Going in to Network and Sharing and clicking to connect to the internet restores the connection, no need to reset any hardware (which is odd in itself). I have had MANY routers over the years and I've all but exhausted support with service provider as the connection is solid if I eliminate the router.Main machine is a Windows 7 Home edition Total of 5 machines, 3 of which see regular use All machines go through a Trendnet 16 port switch and performance is the same direct or through the switch I m on Brighthouse in Central Florida and have all but exhausted their support.

Direct wired connection from computer to modem gets me around 200Mbps download speed, but if I connect thru my Linksys E3200 router (wired connection, not wifi), the download speed goes down significantly to ~70Mbps. The E3200 is only connected to the modem and my computer (i.e. I have unplugged all other devices from the E3200 router). Are there setttings in the E3200 that can potentially cause it to limit the speed or could this be caused by something else?

I've done a speed test with speakeasy.net and get fine through the hard wire desktop (25.16/3.77) but when I do it on my wireless laptop I get 2.03down / 3.66up. The speeds were basically the same right next to router as it was 40' away.

The wireless download speed is absolutely ridiculous. My wired desktop shows 35mbps while my laptop is 0.5mbps. Upload is same for both. Clearly something is limiting my download wireless.
Contacted Cisco support and they told me to change the mtu to 1400, change channel to 11 and reboot. Nothing worked. I have the latest software.
I have a 30Mbps download speed when plugged directly into my modem.
When I go from modem to router and then directly plugged into computer (using ethernet) it degrades to 15 Mbps.
When I swith to wireless and I step about 20 feet from router my speed degrades down to 0.57 Mbps with full signal strength.
My version of firmware is 1.2.11. Here are my settings:MTU = 50Beacon = 50

What's wrong with this router that my download speed is degrading so much?
Im trying to optimize my E4200 settings and Ive noted that ping and download speeds are extremely slow for the internet service I signed up for. Ping speeds are consistently more than 1000ms and dowload speeds typically are less than 3Mbps. These are for both wireless and wired connections to the E4200 router.
When I disconnect the router and hardwire my laptop directly to the the modem, ping speeds are less than 100ms and download speeds are 20Mbps.
Simply put, webpage loading is at a snails pace with wireless and wired connection the router, but blazing fast when hardwired directly to the modem.
On a seperate issue, the iMac I have is also **bleep** slow even when hardwired directly to the modem. Is there an obvious router setting Im screwing up? Router is updated with the latest software.
I Have BT Infinity and they are pushing 70mbps to my house ....i bought an EA6500 and i had real bad internet speed but amazing conection speed with my BT Home HUB3 ... 23Mbps with Cisco EA6500 and 68Mbps with my BT Home Hub3. I found out it was the Media Prioritization so just to be safe i reset my factory settings and made sure it was turned off. Just like magic i get the same now as the BT Home HUB3 .

I had good performance with the E1000, and I only upgraded to the E1200 because it was on sale.My only complaint with the E1200 is the slower download speed on my desktop PC that is connected directly to the router. My normal download speed on the desktop PC was 25 Mbps with the E1000 model. After I disabled the WMM on the E1200 as others suggested, the download speed on the desktop machine immediately increased from 5 Mbps up to 15 Mbps. Any other suggestions to get the download speed up to 25 Mbps before I switch back to my E1000? The E1200 router is connected to my Arris TM602G modem. Both modem and router were reset during the installation process. I setup parental controls for a couple of iPods and configured Open DNS, but other than that, the router is using default settings. All wireless devices in the house seem to be performing fine with the E1200.

I just ran some speedtests om my PC on the advice of my isp to see if my Linksys WRT54G router might be bad. As a result, I found that the router might not be entirely bad, but it might not be entirely good, either. I got .77 Mbps dowload and .17 Mbps upload on the first speedtest. I got .43 Mbps download on the second speedtest and the speed test hung hear the end. When I connected an IMac to the cable modem with an ethernet cable, the IMac ran strong. So the tech thought I should get a new router.
But wait a minute, isn't there a network adapter in the PC that the router talks to? Might the adapter be the problem, not the router? So I speedtested the wireless network to the IMac. That speedtest was fine, tiptop, like the ethernet direct connection test noted above. Did that tell me that the problem is in my PC network adapter, not the router? Then, I retested (speedtested) the connection on the PC and it was fine...excellent. Good up and down speeds, no hangs.Then, I checked the PC adapter (a Belkin). I saw three adapters on Device Manager, including the Belkin. I downloaded new drivers for the adapters (except for the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Minipoty Adapter - because it got a warning that the download software wasn't signed and might harm my computer).
I have a Linksys E1200 router, which replaced a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. The WRT54G ran perfectly, but did not support wireless N, so I replaced it with the Linksys E1200. Recently my desktop has experienced very slow download speeds (~0.11 Mbps), however the upload speed appears to be in line (~2.0Mbps). These numbers are taken from Comcast's speed test (my ISP). It is obviously a problem with my PC because everything else on the network (PS3, Laptop) have great signals with no problems. I just recently reverted the Desktop back to its factory state, and everything was working fine for a couple of months. The desktop in question uses Vista 32-bit and the Belkin Basic USB Wireless Adapter.

I have a Belkin N300 router. When a computer is hard-wired to the router, I get about 26Mbps, but all of the wireless devices in my house are limited to about 56kbps. I tried logging into the router to see if there was something "choking" the connection speed, but nothing really jumped out at me. Is there a setting of some kind that could be causing this?
I do have a signal repeater since my house is so big, but there is nothing within those controls that would seem to have that kind of effect either.
I just installed a Belkin N150 wireless router to use with our iPhones which it is working great. But I also have my desktop pc attached to the router as a wired connection and the down load speed on the desktop pc has decreased dramatically. for example it took 10 minutes to download a 30 sec video.Before I installed the Belkin router I had no downloading issues. This is on a dial up modem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently moved from BT adsl (using the WAG320N) to Virgin 100mb ISP. I had reconfigued the WAG320N to use the ethernet WAN port and the Virgin router as a modem only. The problem I have is that the WAG320N is restiricting the download speed to 37MBs. Initially I thought it was a problem with Virgin but after many visits from Virgin engineers and extensive testing we found that the WAG320N was restricting the speed to 37Mb/s.I am now using the router provided by Virgin which is not ideal. Is there a fix as I cannot find one anywhere.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI live in the tampa bay area, I have bright house (BHN) as my service provider, which provides a Road Runner Lightning (40/5) package. I previously used BHN's top tier (20/2) back in July (and prior) with no problems.
After converting to Lightning in August of this year (2010). Of course, BHN (and every other provider) wants to force a modem/router down your throat, so I had them bridge it (in short, turn it into a dummy modem with no routing). I had an SMC branded modem gateway at the time. I work from home 2 days a week (so I can spend more time with my kids during morning, lunch, right after work) and this requires me to use QoS to ensure my VOIP work calls don't get dropped, if the family is watching youtube videos or watching netflex.
My network was as follows SMC Modem >WAN IP>>WAN Port>>D-link DIR-655>>Switch Ports>PC1, PC2, PC3
Everything seemed fine (from a usability stand point) till about 2 weeks ago when my upload speed seemed to grind to halt. Normally I was able to upload about 200-300K per second, and I noticed this dropped to about 45K per second during a drop box upload. First thing I did was power cycle both my modem and router (in the proper/usual order). After they both come up, I start using speed test to find out what my upload speeds were. I was getting about 39Mbps down, but only .56Mbps up still. I factory reset my router.... test, similar speeds. Power cycle all computers (just in case), and then modem/router. Tested, similar speeds. Updated the firmware to the latest. Same issue
Called BHN customer service, they factor reset it, but it wasn't in bridge mode. If I by passed the 655, in factory mode (non bridge mode) upload speeds returned to better than expected states. If I bridged the cable modem, upload speeds seemed to crash.
Had BHN replace the modem, seemed fixed for a day, then issue came back. Had them come back out and replace it again, this time with a Motorolla Surfboard modem... same issue. Fine during factory reset, however after they bridge the modem, upload speeds were fine. Told BHN I would take it from there.. Connected up the DIR-655, and upload speeds crashed again. (.6Mbps). Called D-Link Support, and the Chinese English speaking rep seemed to not be listening to me and tried to have me adjust my MTU as well as Wireless settings. Long story short... the rep was a level 0 id10t and I hope D-link will consider hiring better employees/contractors. So I was all about to give up and replace it with a DD-WRT capable router (which it takes me a lot to want to swap hardware), when I discovered the wan shaping was on. Which I thought to myself... nah... QoS has never messed up before... why would it be the cause. Turned off wan shapping... and voila. Issue seemed to be insta-resolved.
Unsatisfied with that... I decided to dig a lil deeper. I turned on Wan shaping again, but decided to set the settings manually instead of auto detect.
Here are the settings I used... (Advanced Tab>QoS)
Enable Traffic Shaping - Checked
Automatic Uplink Speed - Unchecked
Manual Uplink Speed - 5000
Connection Type: Cable or Other Broadand Network
Enable QoS Engine - Checked Automatic Classification - unchecked (this checked seemed to affect my upload speed by about 5-10% during testing) Dynamic Fragmentation - unchecked (this checked seemed to be the worse enemy for upload speed)
While I know I'm not any network guru (still have to use a subnet calculator for subnetting), I think I did a pretty good job drilling down the issue (once I got passed my service provider replacing modems).
Anyways, I've had overall good luck with D-Link products, even have a 5 port 10/100 switch (all metal) from 1998 that works great. Hopefully, D-Link will just either put more documentation on the web, or hire better employees.
