Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT310n V2 - Slowly Loses Connection Speed

Nov 24, 2012

I have had my WRT310n for at least a year now.  When I first started using it, my broadband speed would drop after a while till it was sometimes under 1mb.  I have Charter high speed.  I checked around here and found that heat may have been an issue so I got it propped up so I had some airflow under it even though it didn't feel hot when checking.  I also updated the firmware then and for a long time it seemed to have cured the issue.  Lately though, the problem is back.  I updated firmware again but still no change.  The unit is cool to the touch so heat is not the problem.  After turning off for a bit and then rebooting, the speed goes back to normal and stays that way for a few days.  I also tried rebooting my cable modem to test that aspect but after doing that, no change.  Just rebooting the router fixes things.  I'm at a loss.  I can't keep having this happen especially since my wife works remotely from home.

Video Buffering Slowly On High Speed Connection?

Apr 14, 2013

I've been having trouble recently with the buffer speeds on youtube.. i use google chrome, and i have a custom built pc with high end specsmy internet connection ranges from 50mb/s to 90mb/s as shown below(i pay for 100mb/s with virgin media, but the speed varies a lot throughout the day)I run a wired connection and have tested different cables, with no success. If i clear catche/browser history ECT i get a short-term buffer speed boost, but after a few minutes the buffering becomes super slow again.people in the same house are having there videos load instantly, with computer no were near as good hardware wise as mine and using a wireless connection.i've tried a few things.. none of witch have worked.. with my speeds i should be able to watch videos in HD and have them buffer instantly.. at this point i cant even watch them in 320p.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Loses Signal Strength And Transmission Speed?

Aug 30, 2012

I have been disappointed by the range of the EA4500 compared to previous routers, but I am most puzzled by it's behavior. I may get an "excellent" connection close to the router (one room away) and speeds up to 65 Mps, but after a few minutes of surfing the web the signal strength and speed can drop substantially.

The problem is the worst at a distance (one floor down in our house, maybe 30 feet away in total) where the signal strength may start at "good" and a speed of perhaps 30 Mps, but then after 3-4 minutes drops to "poor" and maybe 5 Mps.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT310N No Internet Connection

Oct 2, 2012

I have a WRT310N router and suddenly it stopped connecting to the Internet. I can't ping anything from the router page. I tried restarting it a few times, unplugged it, left it off for a few minutes, plugged it back in, upgraded the firmware, still not working. I tried another router and it works fine. When connected directly to the modem, it works fine, so the problem has to come from the router.

I can connect to the router through wired or wireless just fine, I just can't access the internet.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT310n V1 / V2 - Connection Dropouts

Jan 13, 2011

So, as MANY others have complained of, my router would frequently drop the wireless connection. I've read through the posts about change this, do these, upgrade that, all of which resulted in nothing. Everyone is looking to blame the firmware, but that's not it. It's the hardware. They assembled these units with bad capacitors. Anyways, the fix is simply to replace these capacitors with new ones yourself. THIS WILL VOID WARRANTY and you may permanently damage your equipment (if you're an idiot and leave it plugged in...), but it will take half an hour, a soldering iron and $5 of parts from radio shack (or online if you want better quality). It's really, really easy.

Some good info if you plan on going this route: {URL}
WRT310N V1 board (6 capacitors to replace):
WRT310N V2 (4 caps to replace): (this is showing the new capacitors I installed. ugly, I know, but it works.)

When ever my roommates and I turn on or turn off a computer or device to log onto our wireless network that computer or device and all other computers or devices that are on the network lose internet connection for about 3 minutes. After that period then all devices gain access back. We have a Cisco Linksys router, Model number WRT110, it is the Range Plus version. I got it 6 months ago from a friend that had never pulled it out of the box or used it. I used it before moving and it did not have this problem. We are using cable for our internet and have a Motorola Surfboard model number SB5101U for our Modem. We have 2 Dell computers, both about a year old, and a LG blue ray device that connects wirelessly to stream movies

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3200 Loses Connection To Internet Through Comcast

Jan 24, 2012

I have a problem with my E3200 that has happened at least 4 times since I first purchased, installed and configured it.  Initially I thought it might be something with Comcast, but a) I never had the problem with my Linksys WRT54G router and b) It seems I can now duplicate the issue by saving a config file and restoring it.The specific issue appears to be somewhat random.  At some point the connection to the Internet simply stops for no apparent reason.  I am able to ping the router and connect to it.  I am also able to drop and renew connections to the cable modem successfully.  Furthermore, I can ping my network side of the router, as well as the external address handed to my router by the cable modem, and the cable modem gateway address, but still no connection to the Internet. The only solution to my problem has been to restore the factory defaults to the router and reconfigure it from scratch, which does seem to fix the issue for a time until it occurs again.  FYI, I do not use the Cisco connect software because I have several custom port and QOS configs that are necessary for an IP Phone and other hardware on my network.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Wrt160 Wifi Loses Connection To Phone And Laptop

Nov 17, 2012

I have a WRT160 V2 router with firmware  v2.0.02. I have had the router for years without any problems. A few months ago I have started to see an issue where I lose connection to my internet on my laptop, and wifi on my phone at the same time. I have wifi calling on my phone and it disconnects also at the same time. All of a sudden, everything will stop working, then about 40 seconds later, it all works again. I lost the connection maybe every 30 to 60 mins. I rely on wifi calling for my primary phone, and I end up getting cut off when talking to people. BTW wifi calling is for all tmobile phones, but also normal wifi to surf the web on my laptop and phone drops too at the same time.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA3500 Laptop Loses Connectivity / Very Difficult To Re-establish Connection

Apr 22, 2013

I have a new EA3500 router that's working great for a variety of devices* except a Windows7 laptop.  24 hours after establishing a connection, the laptop loses connectivity and it's very difficult to re-establish a connection.  Usually I have to reboot the router, but 24 hours later the problem returns and Windows is unable to connect.

My router settings include DHCP client lease time set to 1440 minutes (24 hours), so I thought the problem might have something to do with DHCP lease renewal.  To test this theory, on Saturday night I did ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew and established connectivity from the laptop.

Sunday morning I spoke with Linksys support and changed several settings per their recommendation:Network mode mixed (I had it on N-only for some reason)Assigned different SSIDs to the 2.4GHz band and 5 GHz band2.4 GHz band channel is 20MHz only, using channel 95 GHz band channel is 40 MHz only, using channel 161I also power cycled the router. Everything worked fine until Sunday night, 24 hours after the release/renew, when I lost connectivity.  I am not sure what to try next and whether the problem lies with the router or the laptop.

Linksys Router Loses Connection After A While?

Jul 17, 2002

Network was:

AT&T Broadband ISP
LanCity LC-PET3 cable modem (non DOCSIS)
Linsys 4 port hub
2 Win98SE PCs
All worked fine

New network is: Same as above, with a Linksys 1 port router (BFSR11) between the cable modem and the hub.

Router is configured to be a DHCP server (default configuration).
I assigned the router a custom WAN side MAC to match one of my two PCs to avoid having to call AT&T to get things running.

Results: Everything runs perfectly fine initially, but after leaving and coming back to either system (left on, in standby) after quite a while (going to work / bed), the network connection is dead.

WINIPCFG still reports the same IP, but seems to hang forever if I attempt to release / renew. The router's is unreachable for configuration / status (it's still on the default IP of 192.168.1.1) Pressing the reset button on the back of the router restores the internet connection (quickly too - I'm back online in about 15 seconds).

Entering standby manually and coming back out again after just a couple minutes does not affect the internet connection - it seems to only occur when I'm off for an extended period of time. I have no had the time to determine what the period of time is, and if it is a fixed time since DHCP lease / initial startup, or if it is a fixed amount of inactivity time (or maybe even not a fixed amount of time at all).

Linksys E1550 - Network Gradually Loses Speed

Jun 5, 2012

Recently I bought a new router, the Linksys E1550, along with a new computer, an ASUS K53S.Both performed especially well for the first week I had them, along with the wireless on my old desktop computer, but now internet connection speeds slow down to a snail like pace after an hour or two.Normally I would've put it off as bandwidth being taken up by other processes, but as a relatively avid gamer I would notice my ping shooting up to 400-900 ms, which used to be around 60 ms.

Anyway, if I reboot my router my connection speed + ping go back up to normal rates, but after maybe half an hour it'll slow down, ping will be up to 200-300, and then after a longer period of time it'll takes minutes to load web pages and ping will be upwards of 500ms.I've updated my wireless adapter's drivers, etc. all to no avail. This problem doesn't exist when I'm using my laptop outside of my home network, so I think the router is the issue.

Home Network :: Wireless Loses Speed Over Time (at College)

Oct 25, 2011

Using my Acer Aspire 5750 at school my wireless connection speed will drop from around 4 Mbps to .30 Mbps. The speed will start out fine from startup and degrade over time. This happens only at school, and only on this laptop using this wireless card. My home network hold its 3Mbps down just fine. My campus has two wireless networks, one is WPA enterprise encrypted and one is open, both exhibit this behavior. Using my network credentials on another machine or using a different wireless card this machine works fine.I've updated to the latest driver and rolled back to previous ones.

This is happening on a fresh install of Windows and on Ubuntu live CD so it is not malware or something along those lines. Spoofing a different MAC address does not change this behavior. The devid is PCIVEN_14E4&DEV_4358&SUBSYS_E040105B&REV_00

It is a Broadcom Wireless N...

What could be causing this problem? Does the NIC not like the access points or vice verse? Are they any settings I should tweak? The drop in speed happens no more than 10 minutes after boot and occurs in both Windows and Ubuntu. I should add that other students don't have this issue so it is not a network wide thing. Other students get around 4mbps down continuously. Using somebody elses credentials on this machine doesn't work either.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT310N Does Not Retain Configuration?

Sep 17, 2012

our WRT310N router does not retain any configuration given to it. When we reset the device, it goes back to its factory settings. In that state we can access the device (http://192.168.1.1), make some changes and save it. The changes include giving it a different name from the default, and setting a password for the connection. However, when we try to use it for our wireless network, we cannot connect to the internet. Checking the Connection Status in a Windows XP  laptop, we found out that we have been given a gateway different from what we have set the device into and thus a different set of IP addresses for each of the device.

Also at this time, we cannot access the router anymore (via 192.168.1.1 or via the gateway provided) and thus having no choice but to reset the device again. We then reinput the configuration desired, save it, restart the systems (both PCs and router) but after a few moments (initially it retains the settings chosen) we won't be able to connect through the Internet and find out that the router has a different configuration again. We also tried letting the device "rest" but the same problem persists.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Wrt310N V2 Blocks One Website

Aug 19, 2012

I have a Linksys WRT310N V2 wireless router.  Last week it started blocking access to our family website.  That website appears to be the only one that is blocked.  Every other website we have tried works just fine.  I have tried the following.Remove the WRT310N router and plug a computer directly into the broadband modem.  After this everything works fine for the one computer I have hooked into the internet.Remove the WRT310N router and substitute an old Linksys non-wireless router.  Everything works fine for the hardwired computers on the LAN.  Again, not really an option, need wireless access.

Unplug the router and so a soft reset.  Still blocks this one website.I have not done a hard reset to factory specs.  I wasn't looking forward to redoing everything I had set up.I looked over every setting in this router and can't find anything that would cause it to block a web page.  I am far from a networking expert, but most of the settings seem pretty obvious.

Linksys Wireless Router :: How To Re-flash A Bricked WRT310N

Oct 27, 2010

I accidentally flashed my WRT310N version 1.0 with version 2.0 firmware. After which the router was dead as a doornail. After a frustrating 3 hours of reading forums, following over 11 tutorials, and being 1 second away from throwing my WRT310N at the wall, I finally fixed it.I performed this fix on a Windows 7 32-bit PC. My provider is Comcast.Make sure you only have one ethernet cable connected from your PC to the router. The cable should be connected to any one of the 4 blue ports. I connected mine to port 1. DO NOT CONNECT IT TO THE YELLOW INTERNET PORT on the router.

With the router in your hand, hold down the reset button for 30 seconds until the port 1 light goes out then immediately disconnect the power while still holding down the reset button. DO NOT LET GO OF THE RESET BUTTON!WAIT 30 more seconds with the power disconnected. (Do not let go of the reset button)PLUG the power back in and WAIT another 30 seconds. After that, let go of the reset button. You should have held the reset button for a total of 90 seconds. This will wipe the router's nvram.Bring up the command prompt window that you prepared earlier. You should still see the ping command that you entered in Step 2. Now, hit ENTER to start pinging the router continuously. You will probably see a bunch of "request timed out" responses.Bring up the TFT2.exe window that you prepared in step 2. Press UPGRADE so it can begin communicating with the router. Make sure you set at least 10 retries.

As quickly as possible, go back to your router and HOLD the reset button and disconnect the power. You don't need to wait 30 seconds...5 seconds is enough. While stil holding the reset button down, plug the power back into the router and keep an eye on the command prompt and TFT2.exe windows. If the command prompt has successfully pinged the router, TFT2.exe will begin to flash it and very soon it will show a success message below the progress bar. If you still can't successfully ping the router, close and restart TFT2.exe using the same settings and try disconnecting/reconnecting the router's power again as mentioned in the paragraph above. You may want to try holding  the reset button down longer than 5 seconds. I was able to get this to work on the FIRST TRY.Now that your router is has the proper firmware, go back to your adapter's settings (mentioned in step 4), delete the static IP and set it back to the default automatic settings.Plug your cables back in and don't forget to plug the ethernet cable from your modem to the yellow internet port on your WRT310N."Recycle" the power to your cable modem by holding down the reset for 60 seconds or disconnect it from the power outlet for 60 seconds.Reset your router by holding the reset button for 30 seconds.

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT310N Both Desktops Will Not Connect

Oct 29, 2009

I have a WRT310N wireless router (Ver 1). In the house we've got 1 macbook, 2 laptops running windows vista, and 2 desktops running windows XP.The original problem is that both desktops will not connect wirelessly. All 3 laptops connect but neither desktop wants to connect. Most of the time neither desktop will even recognize the wireless network. On one of the desktops we bought and installed a linksys wireless-n pci adapter. It was installed using the software that came with it and the drivers were updated. It still does not recognize the network or connect (obviously).

This has led me to try to upgrade the firmware on the router. The firmware version it is currently running is 1.0.4 (Jan 3, 2008) and I have been trying to upgrade to 1.0.7. I downloaded the firmware update from the linksys website. I accessed the router via my browser and went to the "Firmware Upgrade" section under Administration. However, the upgrade freezes at 98% every time I try.

I have tried to upgrade the firmware wireless, wired, and wired without internet connectivity and nothing works. Fortunately stopping the upgrade after the freeze at 98% has not had any negative affects on the router as it still works perfectly on the 3 laptops. I even re-downloaded the firmware .bin file before the last attempt and still nothing. The fact that neither desktop will connect wirelessly is baffling, but I don't know what to make of the fact that the firmware update freezes at 98%. I've looked for the intermediary firmware updates to see if I could step my way up to the latest update, but I haven't been able to find them.
