View 2 RepliesReset to factory defaults. DHCP turned on. Status page shows black for router IP, gateway, and DNS addresses. Powered router+cable modem on/off multiple times already. I also have another wifi router (WRT120N) and it works fine.
Pretty simple connection. Just a ethernet cable between the cable modem and E1200 internet port (Cable modem <---> E1200)
a couple days ago my BEFSR41 started making trouble, and so far I have not been able to get it working properly again. When I hook up my laptop directly to the cable modem everything works fine, and I get an IP address via DHCP. When I connect through the router, though, the router status shows 0.0.0.0 for all DNS, gateway, etc. addresses, and even pressing DHCP Release/Renew doesn't change that. Also, in the log I see these messages:
2012-08-08 20:30:41 warning DHCP RENEW WARNING - Field invalid in response
2012-08-08 08:30:52 notice TLV-11 - unrecognized OID
Since I can connect to the cable modem directly, it seems the cable modem is not at fault. My overall setup is:
- BEFCMU10 cable modem
- BEFSR41 (not sure which version, but I believe it's a 4.x)
- WAP54G
Could it be that my provider (Cox Communications) has changed some configuration in their DHCP server, and my laptop (MacBook Pro) can handle it, but the router cannot?
Have an old laptop running XPSP2 with a WPC54G V1.2 card that I use for email when traveling. Had no problems accessing my old home network that ran off of a WRT54G V 5.0 wireless router, nor with any of the "motel wireless networks" when I travel. I changed ISPs and now have an Actiontec PK5000 wireless router.
When I attempt to connect I get an error message "unable to acquire network address."
This new router has the following 64 bit and 128 bit settings
wpa-wpa2 personal
wpa personal
wpa2 personal
wep
security off
Using any of the security settings I get the error. Turning off security allows me to connect fine.
I realize this is a pretty old wireless card so is it possible it doesn't work with the current encryption standards but I would have thought that wep would have worked. The driver for the card is V3.3.15.0 which is also old. Would updating the driver work and if so what driver? If a new card is the only way any recommendations for an inexpensive card?
I lost my installation CD and now I moved to a new place. I have linksys wireless-G router model-wrt54gs. how can i setup a new wireless now?

Without the switch, I can connect wired and wirelessly to my WRT54GS. However, when I put connect my any port of my D link switch to ports 1 - 5 of WRT54GS, I loose internet all together either wired/wireless to the router or wired to the D-link switch.I wonder why the IP Address will change as I understand that the switch is just a pass through switch.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having a very difficult time getting my WRT54GS to work with my Westell 6100 modem. I've been bouncing around gathering info, and what I've learned is that the goofy way CenturyLink tech support told me to hook up my old wired router (modem line into outgoing (LAN) router port) is because the Westell 6100 is a "smart modem/router". Therefore, when I run the Linksys setup CD, it sees the modem as a router, and won't properly configure. I've also learned that the Westell modem can be "dumbed down" into simply a modem by putting it into "bridge mode", which is where I'm at right now - trying to get it reset to factory defaults and resetting the connection type from PPPoE to Bridge. In the meantime, I also reset the WRT54GS to factory defaults, and now I've got another problem: the router will not allow me to set up encryption. The default setting is "Disabled", and when I click the down arrow and try to make any selection at all (preferred selection is WPA2 Personal), it reverts to Disabled. I've also tried to change the router's IP address to 192.168.2.1 (and alternately to 192.168.1.253), so it won't conflict with the modem's IP, and it freezes up every time I try.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Belkin wireless router attached to my computer. It was set up as an access point, with an IP address of 192.168.0.254. I had some problems with the network today and could not access this unit by typing in the IP in my browser. I feel certain that is the IP address I put in it when setting it up, as I have a record I kept of all the settings. Is there a way to retrieve the IP address to verify that is what it is set to?

View 6 Replies View RelatedCurrently I have Verizon DSL and which supplied me with a Westell 7500 modem/wireless router. I am also connecting a Linksys WRT54GS (firmware Version: 7.2.08) to the Westell 7500.
When I connect via cable or wireless to Linksys WRT54GS I am not able to establish VPN connection. I get the error “Error 619: A connection to the remote computer could not be established. So the port used for this connection was closed”.
However, when I connect via cable or wireless to Westell 7500 I am able to connect to VPN.
I tried resetting the Linksys WRT54GS to factory settings and reconfigured but no success to VPN.
At work we have a Windows 2003 setup with VPN Role on it and on my laptop I am using the built in VPN connection within Windows 7.
So the power light on my WRT54GS router is off but my LAN lights 1-4 and the WLAN light stay on when power is attached but no cables are in the ports.

I have recently upgraded my router for my home network from an old Linksys WRT54GS G router, to a new E2500 N router. I have heard/read that it is possible to reconfiqure my old router to act as a range extender for my network but I am unclear how to do so. I think this may be the same thing as an access point, but all the FAQ's I've found seem to have this work as a solo device, not as a device on existing network. I have my e2500 setup with the modem in my study and broadcasting from there, and would like to use my old G router set up as a range extender to be located in the front living room area and picking up the network signal and rebroadcasting from there without a modem or computer attached.
I changed the router's IP to 192.168.2.1 due to the same situation as this [URL] linksys and now I can't access my settings I have tried the both pips and nothing and I can't seem to get my linksys wrt54gs v7.2 to let two computers be on the internet at the same time both can be on the network but on one on the internet

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a wrt54gs linsys router with speedbooster. I bought my son a tablet for xmas. I cannot connect the tablet to the network. It finds my network, searches for an IP address, and then disconnects. It will connect for about 2 seconds, and then shows disconnected. My PC's, and WII work fine, although getting the WII ad netflix to reconnect after a power outage is like rocket science requiring field support every time. My tablet wont stay connected, and the book tells me that the router must accept 802.11b/g, and that if it has 802.11n, then it needs to be reconfigured to accept 802.11b/g.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router (10.77.79.1, 255.255.255.0) which hands-out DHCP addresses to my wireless/wired clients. This router is connected to the cable modem which then connects to the wonderful World Wide Web. Port 1 of this router is connected to a Cisco SG200-8 Small Business Switch (10.77.79.3, 255.255.255.0). My Dell 2950 is then connected to the SG200-8.
I know I'm doing something wrong because I cannot ping any of the 192.168.10.X IP addresses from the 10.77.79.X network, and vice-versa. All VLANs on the SG200-8 are set at their defaults (1 and Trunked?). Are there any additional configuration steps I need to perform in the SG200-8 or WRT54G?Is what I want to do even possible with my hardware?
Recently I had to reconnect my WRT54GS linksys router and now it is unsecure, obviously i know how to secure because i've done it before but it isn't letting me...Whenever I type 192.168.1.1 into my browser it will not load the page and it is really frustrating. I have also tried typing in my Default Gateway and ip address that I got from cmd/ipconfig and those will not work either..I'm not understanding why this wouldn't work, and yes my internet connection is fine and nothing is wrong with my browser..
