Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54GS - Setup Menu Gone
Dec 4, 2011
I am trying to upgrade the firmware on my WRT54GS wireless router. I typed in 192.168.1.1 into the web browser and got to the setup menu but there is not much on the page. There are no menu options and just some of the information is on the page. None of the menu headers are listed. Is there any way to reset this so I can get the menu to work again?
I've just discovered that my wireless router is not secure (WRT54GS v5). In trying to set up the propoer security, the set up screen appears as incomplete (after entering 192.168.1.1). It only shows 3 tabs at the top - Basic Setup, MAC Address Clone, and Advanced Routing. No tab to deal with the settings. I have tried resetting the router and plug/unplug several times. Triued entering thru IE and Firefox. Is there another way to set up the security on my router or at least get the proper screen?
I need to set up a password for my wireless network, but every time I try to access the setup page, the router stops responding. I've gotten as far as it asking for username and password, where I enter admin as the password....and then nothing. The connection times out. I really need to protect my network.
I purchased the WRT54GS and I followed the instructions from the setup disk. It got to step 4 and then just sat there for a while and said there was an error newrouter or gateway not detected. I kept trying it but I cant seem to get it to work. What can I do to make it install?
I've recently been gifted with a WRT54GS v.2 which came from a family member who upgraded their wireless router and therefore passed this one along to me. It was working perfectly for them, but not me.
I've tried using the setup CD and doing a manual setup, but no internet connection is detected. I must confess to being a total wireless router newbie, this is my first one, so I am stumped as what to do next. I've looked at the FAQ's and through the forum as well, but I just don't know what might apply to my situation and as I am not very well versed in the terminology, I tend to get lost.
i'm trying to setup a local DNS server to manage small office local-only domain names for our servers. i have the DNS working properly (resolving local machines and using the ISP dns if it can't). so i put the DNS server ip into the "Static DNS 1" field of the router settings. the other 2 static dns fields are empty.the problem is that the router is still using the ISP dns server as the primary and my local dns server as the secondary. i verify this in two places. first, if i go to the "status" tab, DNS 1 shows the ISP server while DNS 2 shows my local DNS server. secondly, if i connect to the wireless device with a linux-based machine, the /etc/resolv.conf file shows the nameserver ips in the same incorrect order.
I upgraded the firmware on my newly acquired DAP-1522 from v1.02 to v1.21 (the hardware ver is A1). But weird thing happened after the upgrade--the Setup->wireless network settings portion of the set up menu disappeared! I re-flashed the upgrade once more and it's still not showing. Reboot the AP--same thing!
I just purchased an E-3000 and when I log into the user interface it seems changing pages and saving settings takes forever. I click on a section in the router menu and it takes what seems like 30 seconds for the page to change or accept the new settings. It's not my browser it's definitely a Linksys Router issue. I updated to the latest firmware and latest Cisco Connect software as well. Is this slow user interface a normal thing with these routers?
I just purchased a Linksys Cisco E900 router and hooked it up to my Internet cable. The Internet service that my ISP is giving me is PPPoE, fiber link (100 Mbps).
I did the set up. I connected my computer (via Ethernet cable) and my laptop (via wireless) to the router.
Now... there are other wireless networks around me. The WI-Fi channel my router fixed to is 1, apparently - saw it from the settings. But I can't find a menu anywhere in the router's gateway (192.168.1.1) from where I can change the wireless channel, wireless bandwidth etc.
I'm trying to register my new linksys e2000-ew wireless router but it doesn't show up in the selection pull down menu. When I try the e2500 it says my serial# isn't correct.
I 'd like to use the access restrictions capabilities of the WRT610N v2. Unfortunely the "Access Restrictions" menu is missing in the admin GUI; I 've got all the others : "Set -up", "Wireless", "Security", Storage, Applications and Gaming, Administration and Status. I've checked the Firmware already and i'm using the very last one available on the cisco web site. I also noticed that I do not have the "Linksys by Cisco" text on the upper left corner as one can read on user guide but just "Cisco".
I have a Wireless-G broadband router WRT54GS and have figured out how to enable logging. This gives me the IP addresses, but I would like to be able to easily see the FQDN so I can see what my kids are looking at on the web.Is there a way to get that information via the built in logging feature? If not is there a way to take the log file and run this through sometype of program that will generate the FQDN's?
I have a 2wire modem connected to the Internet port of my WRT54GS which is connected to a D link DSS 16+ Fast Ethernet switch. Without the switch, I can connect wired and wirelessly to my WRT54GS. However, when I put connect my any port of my D link switch to ports 1 - 5 of WRT54GS, I loose internet all together either wired/wireless to the router or wired to the D-link switch.I wonder why the IP Address will change as I understand that the switch is just a pass through switch.
I'm having a very difficult time getting my WRT54GS to work with my Westell 6100 modem. I've been bouncing around gathering info, and what I've learned is that the goofy way CenturyLink tech support told me to hook up my old wired router (modem line into outgoing (LAN) router port) is because the Westell 6100 is a "smart modem/router". Therefore, when I run the Linksys setup CD, it sees the modem as a router, and won't properly configure. I've also learned that the Westell modem can be "dumbed down" into simply a modem by putting it into "bridge mode", which is where I'm at right now - trying to get it reset to factory defaults and resetting the connection type from PPPoE to Bridge. In the meantime, I also reset the WRT54GS to factory defaults, and now I've got another problem: the router will not allow me to set up encryption. The default setting is "Disabled", and when I click the down arrow and try to make any selection at all (preferred selection is WPA2 Personal), it reverts to Disabled. I've also tried to change the router's IP address to 192.168.2.1 (and alternately to 192.168.1.253), so it won't conflict with the modem's IP, and it freezes up every time I try.
i have been using a WRT54GS LINKSYS ROUTER for 2.5 years problem free until now. All of a sudden i cant connect to the internet through it at all. when i diconnect it and hook my desktop directly to the modem it works but i need the wireless to use my laptop. I have tried everything to get it working again, no dice. when using w7 diag tool it reports back local area connection doesnt have a valid ip config.
I have a WRT54GS v. 7.0 w/ the latest firmware. Im looking for ways to optimize the router for best performance. There are 4-5 iphones/ipads that will connect to it. 3-5 laptopsand one xboxNo wired connections.Im using COX internet on the west coast which provides good internet service. Im not an expert with networks or routers but i follow instructions real well. What can i do to my stock/default router to take 100% advantage of its capabilities?
I would like to upgrade the firmware for my WRT54GS V2.1 router however, I only see versions 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, etc.. There is no 2.1 listed, so does this mean I can use the v2.0 firmware?
Factory default settings of my WRT54GS encryption are Disabled. When I try to enable WPA Personal encryption (>Wireless, Wireless Security), it reverts back to Disabled as soon as I make the selection. >Administration, >Wireless, >Encryption Function is Disabled. When I had this router set up at another location with another ISP, this was never an issue. How do I get the encryption function to be enabled?
I successfully cascaded a WRT54gs V6 router to a LinksKey wired router LAN to LAN. My concern is I get a warning on my one computer saying it is an unsecured connection. I have not seen a way to go in and make any kind of security settings. Most of the files on my main computer which is connected via the wired router are labeled as private files.
I've been having internet connection problems for the last few days and i usually do just unplugging the router and modem and turning it them back on but that hasnt been doing the job this time, its still connecting but it just says no internet access but it will connect when i connect my laptop to the modem. My router is linksys wrt54gs version 6.
Currently I have Verizon DSL and which supplied me with a Westell 7500 modem/wireless router. I am also connecting a Linksys WRT54GS (firmware Version: 7.2.08) to the Westell 7500.
When I connect via cable or wireless to Linksys WRT54GS I am not able to establish VPN connection. I get the error “Error 619: A connection to the remote computer could not be established. So the port used for this connection was closed”.
However, when I connect via cable or wireless to Westell 7500 I am able to connect to VPN.
I tried resetting the Linksys WRT54GS to factory settings and reconfigured but no success to VPN.
At work we have a Windows 2003 setup with VPN Role on it and on my laptop I am using the built in VPN connection within Windows 7.
I need to reinstall my WRT54GS but can't find the original disk. Is there someplace I can d/l the install software? I can find the firmware updates but I think I need more than that to install the router.
I just got a new modem and was also hoping to boost the speed of my router without buying a new one. Are there any ways to increase the speed of the modem i already have?
I have a WRT54GS v1 router which is currently loaded with firmware version 2.07.1. I want to upgrade it with the latest firmware. Where I can find the latest firmware download for this model router? Linksys does not have it available on their site.
I first want to say I "think" I might be posting in the wrong forums for this question, but because I'm not really sure what the proper terminology for this is, I thought it best to ask here.
I have recently upgraded my router for my home network from an old Linksys WRT54GS G router, to a new E2500 N router. I have heard/read that it is possible to reconfiqure my old router to act as a range extender for my network but I am unclear how to do so. I think this may be the same thing as an access point, but all the FAQ's I've found seem to have this work as a solo device, not as a device on existing network. I have my e2500 setup with the modem in my study and broadcasting from there, and would like to use my old G router set up as a range extender to be located in the front living room area and picking up the network signal and rebroadcasting from there without a modem or computer attached.
I changed the router's IP to 192.168.2.1 due to the same situation as this [URL] linksys and now I can't access my settings I have tried the both pips and nothing and I can't seem to get my linksys wrt54gs v7.2 to let two computers be on the internet at the same time both can be on the network but on one on the internet
I have a WRT54GS router. Desktop works fine and the laptop wireless connection worked fine until recently. Now I cannot connect to the router with the laptop. At times I can get to the access point, but can't get to the internet. But for the most part I cannot connect to the router at all.
