I have router linksys WRT54gl, in my office i have cpu, phones, cameras that connected to the router lately its very slow the whole package and i think the problem is in the router i reboot it several times didn't work?i see memory used : 90% ?can this be the problem?
View 2 RepliesI recently had to unplug my Linksys WRT54GL wireless router when doing some rearranging and now i'm unable to get a internet connection. I've confirmed the modem is actually working by connecting my laptop directly (which worked), but when I connect the Linksys WRT54GL wireless router to my modem the internet connection goes away. The connection is lost when connected via wireless and hardwired to one of the back ports. I've tried resetting the modem, router and computer and read every forum out there trying to find something, but i'm still stuck.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI tried setting up a home network with my above Linksys router and can't connect to the internet now. I have the ethernet cable from my DSL Modem hooked into the ethernet port on the back of the Router. In port one, I have a cable which attaches directly to my laptop as I was advised to use a cable for initial setup of my home wireless network. I was able to get into the router to set all the passphrases and wireless security settings, etc. My ISP is PPPoe and I have entered both the UserId and Password that my ISP provided. However, upon clicking on the wireless icon, my system states I am connected but the status screen shows "No internet access". I have no problem connecting to the Internet when the cable runs from my DSL modem into my computer, so it's something to do with the router blocking it now.
My ISP does not support my Linksys router, of course, and they tell me I need to contact the manufacturer telling me the router needs to be set up as a 'bridge" ??? There is no mention of anything like this in the manual and I do not know if there is a setting on the router that is somehow blocking my being able to get an internet connection. This is all still with cables attached. Again, I seem to be able to 'connect' to the wireless network but I now cannot get to the Internet thru the router...
My WRT54GL Linksys modem has me stumped, it will not connect no matter what I try. it worked fine until just recently after a power outage; everything seems to be working perfectly fine hardware wise; the router shows a solid power led and network activity on WLAN, Ethernet, and Internet. I've tried soft resets and factory reset, clearing my caches, releasing/renewing IPCONFIG.
The peculiar part is that it is not letting me access the web config at 192.168.1.1 while connected with the modem, however if I plug the router directly to my PC's ethernet port I can access the config; Itried updating the firmware this way but it didn't solve the problem. I have no more ideas.

I've been using my WRT54GL for a long time now, without problems. Then suddenly last night, it stopped working. Now my girlfriend said she's pushed the Cisco Systems logo/button on the front of the router (which is now orange), but that's tho only thing that's been touched. When I plug the cable straight from the computer to the internet souce, I get connectivity. I've looked at a lot of guides now, but all of them require me to turn of the modem - which I cannot do, as it's a centralized modem in my appartment block. All I have on my site of things is an internet plug in the wall. What can I do to regain my wireless internet ?

I have tried disabling the firewall on the router and adjusting the MTU. Both had zero affect.
Is there a possibility that installing a homebrew firmware like dd-wrt?

I also have VMWare Workstation installed, so there are a couple virtual adapters in the mix, but VMWare is not running during any of these tests.Yesterday (Sat, 10-Mar-2012) I replaced my old router (A) with the new one (B). The A router has been working fine for many years; I just needed wireless access. After the initial setup, the B router worked fine, using hard lines connected to the switch ports, and the wireless access features (laptop and Android phone) - for about a day. It suddenly dropped the internet connection early this afternoon, Sun, 11-Mar-2012, ~1220hrs PDT. I heard it go out because I was streaming NPR at the time.Using the B router, my desktop computer (connected via a wire) can still talk to my laptop (wireless), but neither of them can see the internet.When I swap back to the A router (wires only), it now has no internet connection either! But the desktop and the laptop (both wired) can still see each other via the (wired) router.When I remove the router from the network and connect the DSL modem directly to my desktop computer, I have internet access; it works fine! But not if a router is in the circuit.
(1) Router B seems to work because my wired desktop and my wireless laptop can communicate locally.
(2) Router A still works because my desktop and laptop can communicate with each other using a wired network hosted by the A router.
(3) The DSL modem seems to work because my desktop has internet access when connected directly to the modem.
(4) Neither of the routers can communicate with the internet through the DSL modem.
I spent an hour in a chat with Verizon tech support. I've power-cycled everything. I've reset both routers to default specs and reconfigured them. I've reset the DSL modem via its button. I've used different cables. It appears that neither of the routers can successfully communicate through the DSL modem to the internet. But they both used to. Why would it just suddenly stop connecting through the modem?

My house was in the middle of a lightning storm today while I was out and I came back to no internet. Figgured it was just the phone lines down, but connectiong directly to the modem I found I had connectivity. The WRT54GL (flashed with DD-WRT) doesn't pick up the WAN IP, I've checked with multiple ethernet cables, 2 different modems (all of which work fine with our computers, providing connectivity) and am currently using the router that the WRT54GL displaced ~8 years ago. I'm assuming it's just dead, but wanted a second opinion... kinda odd that a surge would have come through the phone line, through a DSL modem and killed the WAN port of the router instead of taking out the modem?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi have just purchased my wrt54gl two weeks ago. Setup was a breeze and it worked flawlessly until this morning when i noticed i had no internet. The ethernet light on my modem, when connected to router (Ubee 10C035 3.0/Comcast ISP) will blink 2-3 times then stop for a half second then blink 2-3 times and so on. Plugged ethernet cable from pc directly into modem and my desktop connected to the 'net fine and light was blinking normally(constantly) again. A few power cycles/reset of the Router to defaults but no luck.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi want to block all internet access on all my computers from the time range of 9 PM to 8 PM. Yes, that gives 1 hour of internet access per day. However, it seems that there are certain rules of the router that won't let me do this. It seems I can't make 2 different policies for PC's within the same IP range (192.168.1.0 to 192.168.1.254) , it gives me the error: "The values you entered are invalid. Please try again."every time I try to do so. And when I try to give the time range from 9 PM to 8 PM it gives an error stating that the end time must be bigger than start time. I am using the WRT54GL with firmware v4.30.7.

I have tried to reboot the router and modem to no avail.i can access the routers page wirelessly and change stuff but just don't get any internet and the signal strength is excellent.

I started having problems with conflicting IP's a couple days ago on one of my wired computers which was set for auto DHCP so I changed the settings and made it a static IP, this is when the problem started. I have Network Magic on all computers and even though it says I'm connected to the internet and the network, I am not able to get online. My other wired computer has been on Static IP for months and works fine.

The attached settings block facebook as desired during the filter times but after 6:30pm the filter expires and the entire internet is blocked (not just facebook). All of my browsers act as if they are hanging and won't load pages until I disable the filter.
I've also tried creating two different filters (one at a time). The first allowed full internet access all the time and the second allowed access the opposite times of the work filter. But to no avail.
We have a Model WRT54GLWireless-G router. At least once a day it loses it's internet connection. All computers that are wired to the switch that is connected to it lose their internet as well as any wireless devices. I have to manually power-cycle the router to get internet back.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've recently purchased a WRT160N router, and I'm using it in conjunction with a WMP54G wireless PCI card. I've set the router up to my requirements, and can get a stable wireless connection.. but internet speed seems excessively slow. While I'm able to get up to around 4MB/s transferring files over the network, running speed tests, it consecutively shows my download speed to sit around 400KB/s, whereas I'm able to get a steady 1.1MB/s on another desktop that is wired. Disabling the LAN adapter on that computer, and connecting via wireless, brings down the speed that that computer is able to get to around 400KB/s as well. Hence, I don't think it's my wireless cards, but something to do with the router itself.I'm also experiencing lag spike issues in online games, which I can only attribute to the current wireless setup, because I've previously had no issues with it. All relevant ports are forwarded, so that is not an issue.After doing some Googling on the subject, someone had suggested running SpeedGuide's TCP Optimizer, and changing the RWIN - I ran it, and set it to the 'optimal' settings, and after a reboot the wireless seemed fine - I was getting just a tad under what I should (about 950KB/s).. but after a short while, it just went back to 400KB/s. After further investigation, it seems that Vista automatically changes that RWIN value to optimize network traffic.. but I never had this issue with my old wireless gear, so I can only assume that the way Vista is reacting is based on the way the router is interacting with it.

Here's what happens: When my PC is connected directly to the cable (I am connected to a university network, so no modem), everything is fine and a speed test (url...) shows the speed as 400 Mbps(200 Mbps upload) or more.Once I add the router and connect my PC through the router, the speed test result drops to less than 200 Mbps(100 Mbps for upload). I tried this several times, testing with the same server.At the same time, when I try to open pages, "Sending request"(Chrome) takes for ever! sometimes it stays at "Sending request" for 15 seconds. This happens even google.com, so it's not the Web server.

I just bought a Cisco e1200 router... and the wireless connection is way too slow, when navigating through the web, but when using speed test, the connection seems fine, but still it even takes more than usual to open simple pages, lets say Google... i usually watch streams and now that i cannot do... when i connect directly i can do everything as usual...as i have read, i change channels, but still no improvement, i have the latest firmware, on my range there are only 2 more available connections... i even tried disabling/enabling the WMM... We all know that having extremely slow internet must be the real "Mayan apocalypse"

It worked fine until one day it just gave up. It's connected to DSL Modem with Ethernet To a Apple Mac G5 power PC There are two other older macs connected via Ethernet, same problem. When I took the router out of the chain, and connected G5 directly to modem, normal internet speed. My firmware is up to date. Both wireless bands work great. When I look at Cisco Connect, everything looks normal. factory settings.

One is running at 18Mbps, the other two at 0.4Mbps. the internet setting are the same and the security is the same (WPA2-Personal with AES encryption). One of the slow computers is brand new and WAY faster than my "fast internet" computer. The other is about the same as the "fast internet" computer. I updated the I connected the new computer to the router tusing an ethernet cable and it had superfast internet. I redid the Cisco connect on each computer, but it didnt change anything. Why is it so slow wirelessly?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI set up the e1500 and everything worked well, my download speed over the wifi was something like 50mps, now its down to .3 mps over the wifi. When I'm hardwired to the router the speed goes back up and everything is fine. The only problem is the wifi. Its not the ISP because my roommates aren't having a problem with their wifi at all. I haven't changed anything on my computer except updated some drivers since I set up the router. My network card drivers are up to date and so is the router's drivers. I'm also doing all this about 5 feet away from the router.

I recently purchased an E1200 to replace a broken router. I have had good experiences with this model in the past which is why I bought it. However this has not been so pleasant. For some reason the internet connection over wifi is INCREDIBLY slow. I don't know why. It is fast when connected via ethernet to the router. I changed the MTU on the router to 1400, I set the wireless width to 20MHz and the channel to 11. I set security to WPA2. And yet it is still very very slow. It's not a matter of how many users are on the network; I live in a house with five other people and it's slow regardless of whether everybody's home or nobody is home. It's like this on Macs, PCs, phones and even the Xbox 360. I just did a speed test. Wired was about 14MBps down, wireless was around .7MBps down. I simply cannot comprehend this discrepancy. The old router was very unreliable in terms of connectivity but at least it was always fast. And my laptop is fast at my mom's house where she has an E1200. I use a MacBook Pro from 2009 but like I said,this seems to be affecting everybody in the house regardless of hardware.The modem is a Ubee modem from Comcast. I'd upgrade it to a SURFBoard but my landlord controls all the utilities and I'd rather not have to explain to him how to call Comcast and tell them to register the modem's serial number to the account or whatever.

Type in facebook and you get an invalid URL and would have to reset the router to get it to work. Now I bought a new Cisco router and am regretting it. The n900 was a pretty penny and now ALL my videos are always buffering. I have several computers connected, but not active. The internet is painfully slow with the new router, but lightning fast with out it.
Currently using my laptop secuirty settings are IPv6/ and 4 SPI Firewall Protection: Enabled WPA2/WPA mixed mode.
I have tried everything: Rebooting, up to date firmware, resetting, What should I do next? Disable some of its advanced features? Cisco is earning a bad rap with me if a router that boasts high internet speeds makes all my videos buffer and load painfully slow. Let alone getting through all the commercials on the internet now.
Ok, so I recently upgraded to a Linksys E3200. I am trying to get the QoS to work properly. I know that it is supposed to prioritize network traffic, so that if I have busy traffic but I am playing an online game, it should keep my gaming from stuttering while slowing other traffic down.
The problem is that every time I enable QoS everything slows down dramatically. I had a 200MB download that was going to take 5hrs with QoS enabled, that took 10min with QoS disabled. And with QoS enabled I can't even watch a youtube video without it pausing to buffer every 10 seconds. And that was the only PC/device using the network at the time. Again turning off the QoS WMM option solved the problem. I have noticed this problem with multiple routers and brands and usually just disable QoS as soon as I set up a router, however I heard that I won't get the full benefit of 300Mbps without QoS enabled.
I don't have any special Voice over IP needs, or video streaming etc. and I rarely am using multiple network devices at the same time. Is there really any reason I should enable QoS? Also I never really play with the settings for QoS, I just figure that since it comes enabled by default it should work for the average consumer.
I purchased a WRT110 router about a 18 months ago. I am currently experiencing an issue where the wireless connection to the router will become randomly erratic. My internet connection will slow down or drop entirely. Sometimes my laptop will disconnect from the router entirely. I don't think it's the wireless card in my laptop since I have seen the issue on my desktop using a wireless N USB adapter, my Nintendo Wii, and my wife's Macbook, all within the last week.
I am positive it is the router. I set up a coninuous ping command to the router accross my laptop's wireless using "ping -t 192.168.2.1" in a command prompt. Most of the time, the round trip is 1 to 3 ms or <1 ms. When I am experiencing the connection issues, the ping time will rise significantly, sometimes going as high as 2000 - 3000 ms. About 25% of time, the ping will just time out. When this starts happening, the only way I have been able to restore proper connectivity is to manually reboot the router. The issue eventually re-appears. Sometimes in a few days, sometimes in as little as five minutes. I've gone so far as to restore the router to factory defaults and reconfigure it, but that has not made a difference.
The issue is that one Dell laptop is experiencing slow or no internet connectivity at all using wireless. Sometimes 1 to 2 minutes to load a page, other times the dreaded 'not able to display webpage' message. It's fine using Ethernet. I have another laptop (same exact brand/model) and it has no problems. I also have a Macbook Pro and other Apple IOS devices (iPod/iPads) that are fine. Several Ethernet connected devices are fine as well. The laptop in question had no issues with my previoius Linksys devices, which are a BEFSR41/WAP55AG as well as a WRT-54GS v2. This one laptop was fine the first day or two on the EA4500 but something happened which is causing this issue. I had to add the WAP55AG back onto my network so my son is happy again, but my plan was to decommission the other devices. When I try to connect to the internet, both show the wired connection as good but neither can connect to the internet. The BDP-S580 also has wireless connectivity, but it can’t connect to the internet wirelessly. I have two desktop computers connected via ethernet and two laptops connected wirelessly to the same router and all have internet connectivity. I have tried the “auto” settings on the TV and Blu-Ray player and also tried entering the network information in manually. I still can’t connect to the internet.
