Network Keeps Dropping?
Dec 11, 2011So my sister moved the router to a room which we did not realize had a broken phone jack. we moved it back to the place it has always been. However,the desktop in my room has been dropping connection while the other laptops are working fine.The first problem was being unable to load any pages at all.If I left it there, it would stay connected.Open up firefox and try to surf, my wireless network will disconnect.I unplugged and replugged the router to see if it fixed it.I can now surf a bit but my ms is always around 300-500 ms.Seeing as how replugging the router worked,I tried again.I can connect to some pages with a ping of 10-25 ms. However, any game installed on the desktop when running will either disconnect me or cause extreme lag.This has only started to happen after the router was moved.

Aug 1, 2012I have noticed a few times over the last month that my PC would not load pages due to connection problems. If I hover over the Network icon, it say that I am not joined to a network but within minutes, it reconnects itself. I use http://www.scan.co.uk/products/zyxel-pla-4201-500mbps-mini-powerline-adaptor-twin-pack power adapters and they "appear" to work well with good speeds as I download and game online alot. I have noticed that today the problem is really bad. It loses its connection every 5 or 10 minutes and then reconnects itself as if nothing has happened. I tried using my iphone on the wireless and it also seemed to have dropped out on connection. I have tried resetting my router too but with no joy

Jan 12, 2012We run windows server foundation 2008 and have about 15 workstations. I had been running the network on 10 workstations prior to moving the server to our new location about a month ago. All was working well. We had run with the 15 workstations no problem in our new facility for several weeks. many of the computers are dropping the network connection now intermittently, with no predictable pattern. I can't seem to reproduce the conditions that cause the drops.

Mar 17, 2012I'm looking to improve my connectivity,as the internet drops out a few times a day.Let me explain - I hope I'm correct in my assumptions.Every few hours, my PS3 will have a DNS error, and upon checking my iPhone, I notice that it's switched from wifi over to 3G and there seems to be a loss of connection. I cannot reconnect to the internet until I've restarted my router, or 'forgotten' and rejoined the network.
Additionally, we have an Apple TV, and connection drops out about 3 or 4 times every hour, which is very frustrating when trying to watch a movie.

Random Network Dropping Mac Devices Only?
Sep 15, 2012I have a mix of devices that all access the internet via a Deutches Telkom Speedport W 723v my windows devices, HTC phone and even the iPad 2 never have a problem, but my Macbook Pro (Unibody Late 2008 model) and my iMac (Probably 2007 / 2008) keep having a problem with the network dropping out. To fix it I have to switch off Airport and switch it back on again and it re-connects straight away.The Mac OSX software albeit now rather dated on both devices (The Macbook is 10.5.8) is kept up to date using Software Update.The problem amy also now be affecting my APPLE TV2 it never had a problem before but now I cannot connect to iTunes on my Macbook using Home Sharing it just does not want to connect!!!I did try before going into the Speedport and changing channels from AUTO to channel 1 but that did not resolve it. I am going to do it again and try a different channel but logging onto the Speedport is an absolute pain, I can only login using my Macbook Pro when it is booted into Windows XP and on Ethernet as we had all sorts of problems setting it up and could only do it using IE not SAFARI and now the Speedport login only recognises 1 x PC for logging in, if you try a different device it throws a wobbly and locks up!

Jan 15, 2011I have two different friends that are having problems with their printers which are connected to their home network. One has an Lexmark printer wired to their router and running Windows Vista on a laptop. The other has an HP printer connected to the network wirelessly and the laptop is running Windows 7.
In both cases, they are setup to use DHCP. When first setup and the printer software was installed, everything worked fine. Now they each get a message showing 'offline' when they try to print. I went to each of their houses, downloaded and installed the latest printer software and they were printing again. After a short time, the same problem surfaces.

Nov 18, 2012Recently I've pulled a PIX 501 out of a closet (having never been used) and configured it for a VPN with my PIX 506e at an offsite location. This offsite location has a PC, Printer, Access Point, and remote VOIP phone. The VPN itself works great, but periodically the PIX just drops some network devices, specifically the Access Point and the Firewall. Both devices stay off until I reboot it (through an SSH connection) they then spring back to life.

Jul 10, 2011I have an Ubuntu box, 11.04 x64, running on a Dual Opteron SFF box (iWill ZMaxDP... pretty old machine). Up until a few weeks ago, it was acting as a Windows 2008 Server, but i moved it to Ubuntu.
Anyway, the machine will not stay on the network for any amount of time, without falling off... I have changed network cards, cables, ports on the switch, etc, and nothing seems to work. I have a Windows 2003 box giving out DHCP addresses, and for a while, i actually tured that off and setup a second Ubuntu box to give IPs... it made no difference. The box gets an IP, and can ping outside for a bit (2 min or so) and then just looses connectivity... ifconfig shows it with an IP (i have tried both Static and DHCP config) and nothing seems to work.Restarting the network stack (/etc/init.d/networking restart) some times gets a connection working for a few min, but then it falls over again..
Just to note, the main onboard network card is not showing up for some reason. I have an Intel Dual GigE PCI card installed. Eth2 is the "Working" interface, an ETH3 is not connected to anything.... Also, this is probably the first time since i installed the machine that the connection is staying up.
Windows 7 Home Network Connection Dropping Intermittently?
Jun 28, 2011I have a desktop computer and a laptop computer both running Windows 7 Home Premium. The desktop is connected to the router directly and the laptop is connected to the wireless network. When I restart both computers, I can see and access the other computer through the home network without problems. But after a while, sometimes just a few minutes, I can only see the other computer but cannot access it. Sometimes, I cannot even see the other computer. If I do a "ipconfig /release" and a "ipconfig /renew", it may sometimes correct the problem for a while.
I have looked at many related discussions on the web and none of the suggestions work for me.I have the firewalls disabled on both computers, as well as the ipv6 and IP service. I have also disabled the Bonjour service.I have turned a number of services, such as computer browser, server, workstation and many others to automatic as people suggested.
Two Wifi Routers On One Network Dropping Internet Connection?
Oct 17, 2011I have two wifi routers which I have connected together with an ethernet cable to extend coverage across my house. The ethernet cable is connected to a LAN port on the first router and the internet port of the second router. This works fine and creates a second network that I can connect to the net on. The problem iseemingly randomly, about every 15 minutes, the second router will lose internet connection. My laptops and phone still stay connected to it, but windows lists it as having no internet connection. If I then wait a couple of minutes and reconnect, internet will be working again.

Oct 6, 2011About 4 months ago or so I had what I though was a firewall problem, tuned out to be two bad switches or so I thought. I replaced the switches with 3 com switches and everything seemed fine. Until Monday, my network was down again I though because I had a patch cable plugged into the same switch because when I took that patch cable out of the picture and reboot the switches everything seemed good. Then Tuesday I installed a new Cisco 2960 to relieve some of the stress on a switch. Then I plugged in another 2960 and started checking out the network assistant and monitoring tools but every time I clicked refresh or just clicked on the newer of the two 2960s the network connection would bounce? Now today the switch that had been in production the 3com just started to bounce its connection on and off ? I had to plug everything into the new 2960 and unplug the 2nd 2960 to keep the network stable, well its only been about a half an hour.
Are the switch trying to sync speeds with each other?

Jan 31, 2013Periodically I will loose internet connection even though when I click on the wireless applet in the tray it says connected. If I disconnect and re-connect it will work fine for a few hours. Takes all of 20 seconds to do. Any problems with 1703 wireless card? Have installed the latest drivers.

Feb 15, 2012I have two Windows 7 Ultimate computers and around 10 Windows XP (Home and Professional, SP2 and SP3) computers trying to connect to it. It's just a LAN (no internet access).I have set all of the password-protected sharing off on the Win 7 systems. I have tried opening up ALL of the permissions and such (since security is not really an issue).When I try to map the network drive, it won't let me merely connect to it. So, I have to click map network drive on the XP computer and hit "login with other credentials" and enter the username/pass for the user account on the Win 7 machine (we'll say Bob for user and Smith for password for the sake of example). It will mount the share (which is actually the C: root of the drive) just fine.
The only problem is the moment you restart the Windows XP system, it will lose the connection. My fix for it was to create a .bat file that contained the following: [code] I put it in the Progam FilesStartup folder to run upon boot. For the most part, it seems to work after a fashion. Some of the computers, though, will drop the connection to the two Windows 7 systems and need to be rebooted 1-2 times before they get it back again. Even clicking the .bat file manually will have the same result (you will have to reboot) if it drops the connection while you're using it. Plus, sometimes it doesn't map the drive correctly (I assume because the batch file is running before the connection has a chance to initialize on the LAN).I've also tried adding an "Everybody" user to the permissions on the Win 7 systems with full access, but it only seemed to cause problems with the existing connections.It might also be prudent to mention that both the Windows 7 and Windows XP systems are all 32 bit. I've also disabled the firewalls on the two Windows 7 systems. Neither of them have any antivirus or security software installed.
AT&T Global Network Client (VPN Service) Dropping Internet Connection?
Sep 16, 2011I have a work computer...Dell Latitude 6400, AT&T Global Network Client (Company VPN service), using Novatel USB551L from Verizon, with their new 4G LTE. First connect to Verizon, then it automatically launchs ATT Global Network Client, once connected, the system automatically maps drives. I stay on for about 15 minutes average to 40 minutes that's when the Verizon drops/disconnects. This consistantly happens throughout the day!
1. If I connect to a "local" wireless signal NO dropping.
2. If I tether my Sprint Android, NO dropping.
Only dropping with the Verizon. I MUST have the Verizon dedicated to this work computer to run the VPN and hopefully (very soon) a mandated VOIP with Avaya!Called Verizon- they sent me a new USB thinking that might fix it. But same thing. They are showing signal strength 4G. Nothing on their side.

Jan 10, 2013we have a Cisco 2901 as a router on a stick for several vlans. Everything on the segment routes fine and accesses the internet just as they should. The 2901 connects to an ASA5505 on port 0/1. Any host connected to the ASA5505 can access the internet, but can not ping into any of the vlans off of the 2901. The strange thing is on either segement of the network I can ping all of the gateways. What is even more strange is when I run wireshark from behind the firewall going into the 2901 I can not see the packet on another wireshark instance behind the 2901. However if I start a ping for a host host behind the asa I can see the packet in wireshark on the host, which I am trying to ping, hit the gateway.

Apr 2, 2012I have a home network with a Linksys E4200 connected to the ISP's fiber box. The problem is that when I'm connected to the Linksys, either wired or wireless, the connection to the internet will drop after what seems to be a random amount of time (normally anywhere from 2-10 minutes). I can restore the connection by doing any of these things:-reboot Linksys-disconnect and reconnect cable from router to fiber box-if on wireless connection, make changes to the router wifi settings, like change the wifi channel.The internal network stays up, and I can ping both the internal and external ip of the router, but not the fiber box. I have also had the same behavior with an Edimax Wifi AP and less frequently with a Edimax router (once every 1-2 days). I have done everything I can think of:-changed the wifi channels-changed the ip ranges, subnets, turned router DHCP off and back on-booted the fiber box-changed cables-updated all routers to the latest firmware, the network cards with latest drivers...and loads other things that I don't remember right now. For the wifi side of things, there are no other networks in range that could interfere. The same problem occurs on both my and wife's Win 7 laptops and on the iMac (latest OSX). Here's a fun detail: while the Linksys has lost its connection to the internet, I can still access the internet through the old Edimax router connected to the same fiber box, either wired or wireless.

I'm having to reboot what is now my 2nd router every 1-2 days in order for all connections to resume working. My 2nd router was working great since Saturday afternoon, and just now I needed to reboot in order for my laptop to connect to the network.Now that it seems pretty clear the router in general isn't faulty, I suspected that the issue was IP lease related, so I was looking at DHCP settings and changed the lease time to 2880 (max setting), from 120 (default). However, this should only prolong how often i'll need to reboot the router. So, what is it that's causing my devices to disconnect or not being able to connect to the router for a prolonged period of time?

Jul 4, 2011I have two notebooks, one smartphone, and one blu-ray player that connects to my wireless network. My gaming PC is hard wired into the same router that broadcasts my wireless network. About 5-6 times, my wireless network will drop and everyone connected to it wirelessly will lose their connection for about 1-2 minutes. While my gaming PCs internet connection is undisturbed, all of my wireless devices can no longer "see" the network SSID and therefore connect to it. Aug 25, 2012My router is a Netgear WNDR3400 running the most recent firmware V1.0.0.16_1.0.34). This is a dual band router. The 5ghz band I have setup in WPA2-psk (AES). The 2.4ghz band I have as unprotected.The two computers I have issues on are both running XP-SP3. The first is a Dell Latitude d600 laptop. The 2nd is a box I put together myself, and uses a Trendnet TEW-423pi (Rev A) wireless card. Both are connecting to the 2.4ghz band.The computers will both connect just fine, but will occasionally drop the WIFI connection for a moment or two, and then reconnect again right away. On both computers, if I look in Event Viewer, i see a System listing under source "tcpip" saying:The system detected that network adapter DEVICETCPIP_{1EEC58ED-1570-4219-B200-8EC4F636910C} was disconnected from the network, and the adapter's network configuration has been released. If the network adapter was not disconnected, this may indicate that it has malfunctioned. Please contact your vendor for updated driversOn the diy-box, I see a slew of events relating to "The Wireless Zero Configuration service" stopping and starting up to 10 times back-and-forth in the same instant as a disconnection.
On the laptop, I do not have that same service listing, but I see a number of updater services (mostly google) doing the same flip-flopping a handful of times within the same second as the tcpip listing.Now, to throw a wrench in the mix, there are a slew of other devices (a printer, a pair of ipod touches, and two windows 7 boxes, plus a number of friends' computers and etc.) that connect regularly and stably on this same network.Both computers have the newest possible drivers.
Why Does Connection Keep Dropping Out
Mar 18, 2012i recently purchased a D-link n300 DIR-632 (wireless router), i ran the setup wizard and it seems to work. HOWEVER. for some random reason the data transfer will cut out for around 30 seconds or so and all activity is halted. I have looked in the routers Settings however i am not comfortable with messing around with to many settings incase i completely screw up the network. Is there a setting that i have to change so that my network will run more fluently. It is a 300mbs data transfer and there is a maximum of 3 devices running from the network at any one time. I am trying to play online games and the network will lag and freeze the game causing it to crash and have to be restarted. ALSO i would like to note that this router is LAN enabled too. The main computer running on this network is connected by a LAN cable and is still having the same data issues as the wireless devices....

May 20, 2011I've read all of the other guides about how to stop your internet from randomly dropping out but none of them seems to give me a specific answer. My internet is wireless through a Wireless USB adapter and i have broadband. It is not the USB adapter nor is it the internet connection as this is the only desktop in the entire house that has a problem with remaining constantly connected to the internet. It will stay connected for around 30 minutes before just dropping off for a minute. This infurates me as i have to keep on relogging onto games which require constant connection

Ever since that storm, on a regular basis our DSL connection on the router keeps dropping out. Also the phone that we had at the time was shorted out and we had to buy a new one.

Sep 24, 2011ok so the problem is our old modem/router combo finally died after 6 years of doing good. After that we bought a new router and used an old modem, that seemed to work for about 2 weeks problem free. But after that the internet would just drop when someone would play a online game, stream a big video, or after a random amount of time would drop on its own. The connection icon would loose its globe and have two screens with each screen flashing say identifying. after that we got a new modem and still have the same problem. We have two laptops connected to it and they can connect to the router but not the internet as-well.
