View 2 Replies View RelatedI use a MacBook Pro and am connected to my home's wireless network. For the past 2 years, it has worked without a hitch. Suddenly, Comcast changed to XFinity service and I now drop my Internet connection every few minutes. When I go to the airport, I can alway see it and reconnect (although sometimes it asks me for my WPA which is saved, but....). So I can't decided if I need a new wireless router (2 years old) or if the change to Xfinity made a difference. (Honestly, I think it's a name change and nothing more, but the timing is suspect.) I am attaching a screen grab of my iStumbler report. I live in a very populated area so you will see lots of networks. I am using Mathews1.Before you suggest hooking up via hardwire, the morons that built this house (and me, the moron who didn't notice), didn't bring cable up to the top floor where the bedrooms and office is. I'm not allowed via the home owners assoc to bring cable on the outside of the townhouse so unless I destroy walls and floors, I'm forced to wireless access only except for the basement where the router comes in.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently got a (new) Dell Inspiron 570 desktop. It didn't come with a wireless adapter, so I picked up a (new) TP-Link TL-WN781ND Wireless N PCIe adapter. Easy installation, worked immediately. Connection's not perfect, but I get 3 bars from across a house so it's about what I expected.Unfortunately, every little bit the connection drops. Sometimes it comes back within seconds, sometimes it lasts for several minutes; sometimes I won't notice it happening for hours, sometimes it drops every few seconds. There are two other computers on the network that don't suffer connection issues, and I've been able to test with my iPod that it's still connected at the same moment as my Dell is not.I tried updating the driver automatically, which oddly enough installed the driver for an Atheros AR9285, a different wireless adapter; and although everything seemed to still be working I gave it long enough to make sure the problem was still there and downloaded the correct driver from TP-Link's site, which didn't fix it either.

The speed jumps all over the place, reaching as high as 2mb/s and then dumping down to 0.14 kbps while going up and down. I am not sure what the issue is. I am running wirelessly on my desktop using a D-Link DWA-130 adapter.

They have computer's connected into it with a wired connection. My laptop is a wireless one. The connection will drop roughly 10 times a day. And the odd thing is , to get the connection to show back up on my wireless connection lists, i need to restart the router or it doesnt show. Its not a problem with signal strength, and obviously no problem with the router as my parent's stay connected during this. I called my ISP, they told me to call gateway. I did , and after that, i will never in my life associate with anything gateway ever, ever , again. I'm sure its a setting or software issue

This modem services 4 other computers in the house wirelessly and all experience the same frequent connection drops regardless of connection quality. I've had problems with this modem for as long as I can remember but it never bothered me because the problems were too far and few between; now, the connection has progressed to dropping within minutes of use.When the connection is dropped I cannot access my modem (plugging the ip address 192.168.0.1 into my web browser)The connection stays acceptable for a while after resetting but always reverts back to being a piece of crap. The connection drops most frequently when under heavy load i.e. steam downloading a game at my connection's full capacity, just only more frequently. The connection will still drop within the hour if I'm downloading anything or not.
I've tried rerouting the wireless modem into another wireless router before but it caused me new problems.Before this all started within last week, I contracted some spyware that redirected Google search links and also killed my connection frequently along with terrible slowdowns. This has been a problem 2 months ago and it is still not fixed My ping sometimes goes up to 500 and disconnects, usually every 10 minutes i disconnect from TeamSpeak3. My connection is 3 bars and drops down to 2 which is when it disconnects . My modem is only 4 meters away from me and another laptop is 2 meters away from it but it has perfect connection. My sister upstairs also has perfect connection. Im using Realtek 8185 extensible 802.11 b/g. Sometimes its worse and sometimes better but only by alittle bit

I ignored it (stupid me) because I didn't know what to do. The connection worked fine for a while, but now a day later, the connection keeps dropping. I would assume it is because of this.I did a bit of research and it seems like setting up a static IP will fix the problem, but I have no idea how to do that.
I have an airlink ar525w wireless router. My wireless connection drops out every few hours and I have to reset my router to get it up again. My wired connections work perfectly. Also, I am able to see my network as available and with full signal strength from windows but connecting to it doesn't do anything (just says connecting forever). This is not isolated to one computer. I have tried it with laptops, desktops and smartphones. The strange thing is that it works perfectly (hasn't dropped a connection for one month) if I have wireless security disabled.I have tried different types of security (WEP, WPA, WPA2), different channels (all 11 channels), assigning static IP addresses to all my devices and turning off the DHCP server on my router. But none of these settings fix the problem. would be willing to buy another router, but I was reading through reviews on newegg and every router that I saw reviews for has a few people experiencing the same problem that I described here. Is this a widespread problem that I have to live with or does this have something to do with my router specifically?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIve been having an issue lately with my wireless connectivity at home. We recently moved and Im using a V1000H from telus for my wireless network. Wired connections are fine but wirelessly my connection keeps dropping every few minutes for a few minutes and then comes back on its own. However I only have 1 laptop to test with and my cell phone which doesnt seem to be exhibiting the same problem as my laptop. I've tried formatting the laptop twice with 32 and 64bit windows and it still happens. ive tried many drivers and tried to disable any power management options that the laptop has and the wireless nic has.
Ive changed the channel on my wifi and the security as well but no luck. It was working the first day we had it setup just fine and then the next day it started dropping. The signal strength is always 4-5 bars as im just in the next room from my wifi. Ive also tried using a dlink router as an access point and disabling the wifi on the v1000h but had the same issue. Also the laptop im using is a sony vgn-ns330d with windows 7 32bit atm but i was previously using 64bit. The wireless nic is Atheros AR928x 10.0.0.75
If i run an open wireless network without encryption, the laptop is always picks up the connection. However when I got to WPA encryption, the laptop works fine until I leave it in standby or shut it down. In order to connect it after leaving in on standby or a shutdown I need to reset my Linksys router.I have another laptop that never seems to drop the wireless connection, so I don't think it's a router issue, but something on the other laptop.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a home network which consists of one Motorola wireless router and 3 PCs. Two of the PCs connect directly to the wireless router without any issues, however, my PC dosent have a built in Wi Fi card so am using a TP Link wireless N USB adaptor.... so as you can imagine the signal is still very poor. So I have bought a TP Link AP and have it set up in repeater mode to increase the range of the router and thus improve my connection.
Now this works great in the short term as I get full signal, but the problem is the signal tends to drop out every 20 mins or so.Now, originally we were recieving an IP address conflict message which I thought was causing these drop outs, but I have rectified this by using MAC address filtering on the AP (think the AP was connecting to someone elses PC in our block of flats), but the drop outs still continue.
I have a static IP set on both my PC and AP and DHCP enabled on the Motorola router, I have also tried changing the Motorola's channel and moving the AP to different places but the story dosent change.I am a right noob when it comes to networking and have got this far by reading manuals, google searching and trail and error so dont know what else to do.
I've got a DIR-651 that does one of two things regularly:
1--drops all wireless connections momentarily, then re-establishes them (happens multiple times a day)
2--drops all wireless connections and has to be reset (happens every 0.5-2 days)
#1 wouldn't be a big deal, except that I keep VPN connections on two systems and have to re-establish them every time this happens. I should probably also note that this happens even on the weekends, when those two systems are not VPN'd in.
It has done this since day 1, and the firmware update did not work.

I have a Linksys WUSB54G version 4 adapter.My computer is running Windows XP, Service Pack 3, which is automatically updated at all times. I've been using the adapter for a year with no problems.
Suddenly, it's started loosing the connection to the Linksys router and locking up my computer so only a hard re-boot power-down will work.When it comes back up, some or all of my cookies are lost.
I've run several different security packages but no virus or other issues have been found.I've uninstalled the adapter and reinstalled it.Last time, following something I read on this site, I installed it without the Linksys software, just the drivers.
I have two notebooks, one smartphone, and one blu-ray player that connects to my wireless network. My gaming PC is hard wired into the same router that broadcasts my wireless network. About 5-6 times, my wireless network will drop and everyone connected to it wirelessly will lose their connection for about 1-2 minutes. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Studio 1745 Laptop and its only a few years old, I recently upgraded my router to be wireless a year or so ago and have had a few d/c issues here and there but mostly has not been a problem.Recently I have had tons of d/c issues while playing warcraft or browsing the internet in general, anything really.So I made the mistake of recently updating my WNR1000V3 router's firmware from my laptop's wireless connection. After I did this I saw all sorts of warnings (none built into the firmware itself, sigh) that this was a big no no.
Since then my d/c issues have been horrible but what it does now is my connection will be completely normal then all of a sudden my wireless access point will switch to 'No Internet Access' and it will drop my internet.The only way I can get it back is to go into the other room and reset the router by either unplugging it, or pressing the reset button on the back, once it reboots and everything, my laptop sees the connection again, and it has Internet Access fine.Soo I went and made the problem much worse, the lame part of the situation is before I had this firmware issue I was getting this problem anyways.
I decided if I could flash a older version of firmware to the router using my desktop that is wired to the router I could then reupdate it to the current version,I found a old firmware version on netgear.com and went to upload it through the router login for my router, it then said the file format was unrecognizable or not the right one (it was a .img file). I even tried to mount the file and explore it, no go. I found another firmware version older than that and attempted to flash that to the router and it began to update, then gave me a warning that this firmware was older than my current, I click yes and my internet drops and the update never happens.
So if I did screw the modem up this way I have no idea how to fix it now I have reset it to factory settings but this doesn't affect the firmware version. I suspect the firmware has something to do with the recent problems because I have seen the 'Congratulations, You have setup your router and are connected to the internet" like 20 times these past 48 hrs.I downloaded Xirrus wifi inspector and have it running now.I tried the ip flush and release stuff, and a bunch of tricks ive seen on other forums.My system is Windows 7 with a Intel wi-fi link 5100 AGN network adapter. I have tried rolling back that network driver and messing with the advanced and tcp/ip settings.
My linksys never dropped a wireless signal in four years of use, this one has dropped 3 days straight.Dunno about the wireless part of the router; Terry, etaf, any input on the quality of this router?

Whenever im searching the web, say i go to NFL.Com to check my fantasy squad, the pages wont load, and i see my connection has been dropped, now every time i click on the signal bars on the bottom right hand corner, it says no connection, but after about 2 seconds of clicking on it, it connects again. So in order for me to get my connection back, i have to click on my signal bar to get it back, which is ridiculous. I have other computers in my home, all of which do not have this problem, so its definitely something in my desktop, i also have about 3 wireless adapters i've tested it on, all of which do the exact same thing on my desktop only. I've also went to power management under configuration for my USB adapter and turned off the ''Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power'', it still drops my connection every 3-5 minutes.

As Far as I can tell When it drops its still connected to the Wireless network.. it just says local only and Gives me the limited connectivity warning.. When I diagnose the issue it tells me a number of different things and it tells me to renew the IP settings and sometimes that will work and sometimes not.. The laptop is a HP Pavilion DV9000 with all original hardware.

But when i do this both the routers work fine for 10mins, as i am able to browse the internet etc but then everything stops working from both routers. View 1 Replies View RelatedTo start off, the wireless router we have is a D-LINK 615 Wireless N 300 Router.We've had this router for a couple of months now and only recently has it been giving us grief. When we first got it (it was actually a friend's who had lent it to me but have been using ever since), it was working like a charm. No dropped connections, etc.However, as of a few weeks ago, we've began to notice that the connection has been dropping constantly. It started one a day around the same time (in the evening) and ever since has happened multiple times per day.The connection will either drop all together (lights still going on flashing) or there will be a limited connection (as stated in Windows) and I can't do anything. This happens for my laptop as well as my PS3. My desktop is hard-wired so there's never a connection issue there. Power cycling the router usually fixes the issue but again, this is constant and keeps disconnecting for some reason and having to power cycle every day is annoying.All the lights are always flashing like normal but the connection just drops off.
