Why Does Internet Keep Dropping Out When Connect Two Wireless Routers
Apr 2, 2012
I have been using one wireless router which is working fine, but i have decided to add another wireless router downstairs to better the signal by putting the internet wire into the router. But when i do this both the routers work fine for 10mins, as i am able to browse the internet etc but then everything stops working from both routers. It shows on my computer and iPad as connected as they have full signal strength but no webpage loads.

Some day, then my internet jut died. then I got the router restarted(unplugged the electricity and plugged it back in) and it worked for like a day and then it died again. I restarted the router again Internet worked and then some hours later it died again. This problem only happens to me and not anyone else in the house.I'm connected from my pc with and ethernet cable to a switch/HUB where it's then connected to the router.

For the past few months my internet connection will randomly drop for about 5-10 seconds when someone else connects to the network. I am using a wired Ethernet connection and as said when someone connects either via WiFi or also through a wired connection, the internet for me will drop as soon as the device is connected, and then randomly every 20 minutes or so thereafter. I should also mention that rarely the connection will just drop for again, 5-10 seconds even when nobody else is connected.I tried my computer at someone else's house using their router and it worked fine, no disconnects at all.

i have been having issues with my internet for months now, my router just randomly loses its internet connection over and over everyday. I used to have slow internet with verizon so i changed to comcast and after i changed to comcast this problem started, when i called comcast they said that it has to be interference from an unknown source. I have a Wireless-N 150 Router model WNR1000v2 and it came with a modem. Things i have tried are changing my security to WPA2-PSK[AES] which it saiid would increase my connectivity..did not, i have changed my channel also didnt solve the problem. I have had this problem with 2 different routers and modems so far. And i have 2 desktops and 2 laptops connected to this. 1 desktop is hooked straight into the router and the other 3 are wireless.

I have two wifi routers which I have connected together with an ethernet cable to extend coverage across my house. The ethernet cable is connected to a LAN port on the first router and the internet port of the second router. This works fine and creates a second network that I can connect to the net on. The problem iseemingly randomly, about every 15 minutes, the second router will lose internet connection. My laptops and phone still stay connected to it, but windows lists it as having no internet connection. If I then wait a couple of minutes and reconnect, internet will be working again.

I went through the hoops with my ISP (knology) and they are adamant that it is the router that is the problem. I've tried two different routers, an E2000 and a wrt120n (it may be 160n..).. both do the same exact thing. I'm extremely tired of it. I was told it could be an IP issue or something related to DHCP.
Modem:
System: ARRIS DOCSIS 2.0 / SIP 2.0 Touchstone Telephony Modem HW_REV: 04
VENDOR: Arris Interactive, L.L.C.
BOOTR: 6.24
SW_REV: 6.1.77T.SIP
MODEL: TM602G
Router: E2000
Problem: Internet 'lags out' every 10-15 minutes for approximately 3-10 seconds. It only does this when I'm connected through the router and never when I'm plugged directly into the modem. It happens most commonly when my brother and I are both online at the same time. It's rare when we only one of us is online.

I have installed a WRVS4400N router in a client's office. When laptops are plugged into the router everything works fine. When they are attached via the wireless signal it drops frequently. WPA personal is being used to encrypt. I have also installed the latest firmware and am having the same results. What can be done to eliminate the drops?

I have several wired and wireless devices connected to the router which is running the latest firmware (2.0.2.1) and I have this issue with all wireless devices. The router is configured for B/G/N Mixed, Channel 6, and to broadcast the SSID. Security Mode is WPA2-Personal w/ key renewal set to 3600. Connection control is configured to allow only the desired MAC addresses. All wireless clients are configured for DHCP (as are some of the wired clients that do not have this issue). I have tried various setting changes over time, none of which have resolved the issue.
What I have determined, and may be useful, is that each time this occurs I am unable to ping the router from the client and have no connectivity to the internet or other devices on the network. If I ping the WAP address (reserved for internal use address) I get a response and then connectivity is always restored after doing so. In other words, I ping 192.168.1.1 and get no response, immediately ping 192.168.1.2 and get a response, then immediately ping 192.168.1.1 and now get a response and connectivity is restored. If I skip the first step and just ping the reserved address followed by the router address result is always the same. It would appear the issue is between the the two router addresses.
Prior to owning this router I had a Linksys BEFSX41 that I had for about 7-8 years and a WAP54G I had for about 5, both of which still worked and I never had this issue with my wireless clients. I went to this router for the increased performance and am very happy with that aspect, however this issue is unacceptable.

I have a Netgear N300 Wireless Router (WNR2000), and I am trying to connect the internet through it. The internet light stays amber, and though the router recognizes it, I can not connect to the internet. My computer also doesn't seem to recognize the router at all. Installation CD will not work either.

How do i connect two internet routers to one IP address range?I currently have one broadband router connected on 172.16.0.3 subnet 255.255.0.0, I have a second line which is a copper ethernet EFM 2Mb line connected using a Cisco 1800 router configured on 172.16.0.254 subnet 255.255.255.0, no DHCP is configured on either router. the dhcp is provided by a windows 2003 server on our LAN which is also configured on the same LAN IP range. if i connect the Cisco router into the same switch as the broadband router my network devices stop working and dont respond.
If i check the broadband router it shows all the connections to it as having the same MAC address as the Cisco router?? if i disconnect the Cisco router everything returns back to normal and works perfectly. What I want to achieve is to be able to run both routers on the same LAN to provide internet access by configuring the pc's to route through a specific router. the DHCP I want to stay routed through my original broadband line. at the same time i want all pc's to access to the lan devices (ie. servers and printers) what the correct configuration would be for the two internet routers would be?

I have spent several hours with Linksys support (six calls) and my ISP (2 calls) and still can't get my router working. It will work for about 5 minutes or and then drop Internet access. If I unplug and reboot, etc, it will work for another 5 minutes or so and then drop signal again.

I have a WRT54G wireless router and it goes through periods where it constantly has to be reset cause it keeps dropping the internet connection. Once you do a power cycle it starts working right again. But sometimes goes out 5mins later.I have the router hooked up to a Windows XP computer via an ethernet cable...and I have 1 Windows Vista laptop, 2 Android phones and a PS3 connected via wireless. The PS3 is set up following these directions: (not sure if this is what's screwing it up)
"Step 1:Open a web browsersuch as Internet Explorer.
Step 2:Go to the Address bar and enter your router's IP address ("192.168.1.1" is the default IP of most Linksys routers) then press [Enter].
Step 3:When the router's web-based setup page appears, click Applications& Gaming then click DMZ.
Step 4:Select Enable on DMZ and under DMZ Host IP Address enter the PlayStation®3's IP address.
- Try 192.168.1.10 or 192.168.1.20 Save Settings.
- This IP address will need to typed in manually during online setup on ps3. I think its the first address you enter (I think this is the game's IP address).
- Use 192.168.1.1 for the wireless router's IP address on your PS3.
Step 5:Now, click Administration and Disable UPnP. Make sure you also disable UPnP on your ps3 online setup. Save Settings.
Step 6:Click Status. Write down the DNS 1: dns number and DNS 2: dns number on a piece of paper. You will enter these for DNS 1 and DNS 2 numbers during online ps3 setup. NOTE: The IP address listed on the Status page for your wireless router is not used for any setup on your ps3. Remember, to get into ps3 online setup, you have to choose Manual during setup so you can enter these numbers.
Step 7:The WP key crap and whatever during online setup should be skipped unless you specifically setup some kind of password for your wireless router when you installed it. I didn't and just left that part blank and skipped over it.That should get your wireless router and game setup. If you're still stuck, drop me a message. And, remember to do this setup after that:Linksys has a great tech support at their site. url...
I have a ps3 and did all of the wireless and ps3 online setup for it using their site technical support. Doing that seemed to throw a monkey wrench into my internet connection a while after that. I just left all of my game settings in place and did this: Logon on to your wireless router. To do this, you will probably go to url.. by typing this address into your address box on your internet explorer. Logon. If you don't know how to logon, go to and follow the instructions in technical support.

When using the new battery the wireless internet connection keeps dropping, however this does not happen when using the old battery. (This is the only thing that has changed on this laptop)
Is there anything I can do to stop this happening or do I just need to return the battery?

Wired connection to the router works fine. But it drops all the wireless devices (PC, phone, tablet) multiple times each day, sometimes only 30-60 minutes after reconnecting. Power cycling the router "fixes" the router and allows reconnection. There are 2 topics in the FAQ section that looked good: Getting poor or no signal from a wireless routerTop causes of dropping wireless connection on a Linksys routerbut clicking on those does not bring up anything.

Set up: Router: WRT110 1 computer connected via ethernet cable 1 computer using a wireless nic card from cisco
The problem is thus: if the first computer is actively using the internet (even activities as mundane as browsing one's email) the computer connected wirelessly will lose its connection to the internet yet maintain its connection to the router. Both can be actively using the internet, but the wireless will seemingly at random drop internet access (usually in 30-120 minute intervals).
The computer connected via the ethernet cable was unplugged for a week and during that time the wirelessly connected computer was used extensively and did not lose connection once.
I don't understand how to even frame this problem in a concise manner, much less seek information as to how to resolve it. It's seemingly giving all priority to the computer connected via ethernet but I that's just intution speaking.

I recently changed the security mode on my router from WEP to WPA2 Personal. However, since that change, I've noticed that the wireless devices, 2-laptops, are intermittently loosing their connections. . I don't know if it has anything to do with the security mode change, but I don't want to go back to WEP for obvious reasons.

I've been using my Linksys WRT54GC for couple years now, and only recently have I started to have significant issues with the device. I'm using a 2012 Macbook Pro, and my internet connection seems to be randomly dropping every now and then. Sometimes it works just fine for couple of hours only dropping once or so, sometimes it starts dropping literally every few seconds. What I usually do is quickly restart my wifi and the connection comes back right away. I also tried not doing that, and the internet connection tends to come back up after a minute or so.
I have read countless topics, also tried many things: changing MTU, the thresholds in router settings, security modes (it seemed to have worked fine after I changed it to WPA, not anymore though. I'm using no password now and it doesn't fix the problem either), changing the channel (my strongest signals around are on channel 1 and 11, thus I left mine on 6), I even reset the router today (held the reset button for 10 seconds~) but it didn't work either. I didn't upgrade the software since I heard stories about the software available on this site being corrupted or something, bricking the router, which is the last thing I'd want (I'm running on 1.00.7 now).
I have the impression (but it's just an impression, it might as well not be the case, and just me trying to find out when it happens, since it's not always that it breaks the connection while doing that) that it breaks the connection on high load, I mean when I'm for example using skype and facebook, and then try to go on reddit at the same time - the reddit webpage won't load, and the connection is lost after few seconds. But it also started dropping every few seconds while I was playing an online game and skyping at the same time today, which isn't a particularly huge problem for a 23Mbps download and 1.5 upload speed internet I suppose, and which it never did before. I have never had such issues with my PC using a Linksys USB adapter. The connection would drop from time to time when, for example, accidentally going on pages with lots of thumbnail pictures, or trying to load 15 tabs of jpgs at the same time, it was never that much of a problem really though, I just thought it's normal.

I've got two Cisco Aironet 1140 Access Points in my office. They're both setup as AP at opposite ends of the office with the same SSID, so employees can walk throughout the office without losing connectivity. We recently re-started one of the AP's, but ever since the re-start, users cannot roam from one AP to another without dropping their internet connection to the outside world. In other words, if I originally connect on Side A and walk over to Side B, I lose my internet connection. Users can still access the internal network, and I can launch the web interface for both AP's. But, it seems like the DNS doesn't recover until I go back to Side A.
