Windows 7 / V1000H - Wireless Keeps Dropping
Dec 11, 2012
Ive been having an issue lately with my wireless connectivity at home. We recently moved and Im using a V1000H from telus for my wireless network. Wired connections are fine but wirelessly my connection keeps dropping every few minutes for a few minutes and then comes back on its own. However I only have 1 laptop to test with and my cell phone which doesnt seem to be exhibiting the same problem as my laptop. I've tried formatting the laptop twice with 32 and 64bit windows and it still happens. ive tried many drivers and tried to disable any power management options that the laptop has and the wireless nic has.
Ive changed the channel on my wifi and the security as well but no luck. It was working the first day we had it setup just fine and then the next day it started dropping. The signal strength is always 4-5 bars as im just in the next room from my wifi. Ive also tried using a dlink router as an access point and disabling the wifi on the v1000h but had the same issue. Also the laptop im using is a sony vgn-ns330d with windows 7 32bit atm but i was previously using 64bit. The wireless nic is Atheros AR928x 10.0.0.75

I tried to forward a new port on my Actiontec V1000H router. I was able to sign in without incident, but the moment I tried to begin navigating within pages, I would be greeted with a red screen reading '400 Bad Request - No request found' roughly 60% of the time. Usually refreshing the page a number of times would allow me to proceed, but because the Telus software for the V1000H cycles through so many pages when applying a new forwarded port to the firewall, it's almost statistically impossible to make it through.I have no issues with internet connectivity, and having this port forwarded isn't critical, but this problem is a real nuisance as it turns changing any router settings into a long, tedious, and sometimes downright impossible chore.

I've recently bought an Actiontec V1000H gateway from Telus because my previous gateway burnt out. It seemed to work fine at first, but then I started getting disconnected at random. The only way I have found to fix this issue temporarily is to ipconfig /release and /renew.

Windows 8 on a desktop with Linksys AE3000 wireless adapter. I sometimes start losing packets when pinging to my router. Here is an example:[URL] Now using my tablet with builtin wireless adapter (same location as the desktop) I got this result [URL] the problem is not my router If I restart Windows 8 desktop, the problem is fixed and pings are back to normal. However, next day I get the same problem back (until I restart Windows again).I have tried three different wireless adapters but it's the same problem with all of them.

It's a Windows 7 Pro 64bit machine with a (newly installed) Asus P8H67 pro motherboard and an Edimax ew-7612pln pci-e card, the router is a thompson 585v8 router with the latest firmware on (upgraded as part of troubleshooting). I upgraded the wireless card drivers one time whilst it was disconnected, it appeared to work for a few hours but then dropped again it also went through a phase of connecting to the router as an 'unidentified network' with no internet access although I don't believe it was attaining an IP address. When it was connected the internet was pretty slow and anything like a file down load would knock it off completely. There were no errors at the time of disconnection in the event log (bar a DNS error or two saying it could not locate the website I was trying to get to before it failed), however the only information type events I noted were a few services stopping and starting and an odd one regarding the host not being able to find the 'master browser' which was identified as another laptop on the wireless network.
The machines are not in the same work group or in a domain, all other laptops and devices on the network work fine and are very stable - as was this one up until a couple of weeks ago. I've uninstalled a couple of pieces of software that were recently installed ; VMware player (which added virtual NICs upon installation and funnily enough made the wireless reconnect after a few hours of downtime upon installation...but the effect was shortlived) and some asus mobo utilities.

I recently added two Win7 computers to my ethernet network (one replaced an older computer, the other has brought the total to 4 machines). The original 2 workstations (XPpro) are fine, but the 2 new Win7 computers intermittently lose internet connection. They remain on the network, just lose internet. The 2 that are having the problem are wired directly to the first router, Linksys WRT160N. The 2 XP computers, that work perfectly, are wired 150 feet away, attached to a Linksys WRT54G used as an access point. The problem is much more severe on one of the new machines, with Win7 Home Deluxe - it stays offline about half of the time. The other, Win7 Pro, is occasionally waxed for 5 or ten minutes. Both use the Win7 default firewall & settings, I've added Avast free anti-virus but no additional firewall software. I have not noted any error messages other than the red X on the networking diagram, and the browser can't find page

I have a desktop computer and a laptop computer both running Windows 7 Home Premium. The desktop is connected to the router directly and the laptop is connected to the wireless network. When I restart both computers, I can see and access the other computer through the home network without problems. But after a while, sometimes just a few minutes, I can only see the other computer but cannot access it. Sometimes, I cannot even see the other computer. If I do a "ipconfig /release" and a "ipconfig /renew", it may sometimes correct the problem for a while.
I have looked at many related discussions on the web and none of the suggestions work for me.I have the firewalls disabled on both computers, as well as the ipv6 and IP service. I have also disabled the Bonjour service.I have turned a number of services, such as computer browser, server, workstation and many others to automatic as people suggested.

I recently bought an alienware mx14 laptop last week and i am having some strange issues with the Ethernet card. The connection seems to drop from time to time at random periods, altough wireless works fine, the wired connection just loses connectivity for brief moment. The only way i notice this if, i am streaming something and it just stops the buffer or if am at the lobby of League of Legends and get timed out or, any http transfer gets cut out.I have an atheros card and w7 64bits installed with the latest drivers from Dell and have uninstalled and reinstalled them a couple of times, and they seem to work for a couple of hours , after a while getting back to the some problem.

I have two Windows 7 Ultimate computers and around 10 Windows XP (Home and Professional, SP2 and SP3) computers trying to connect to it. It's just a LAN (no internet access).I have set all of the password-protected sharing off on the Win 7 systems. I have tried opening up ALL of the permissions and such (since security is not really an issue). When I try to map the network drive, it won't let me merely connect to it. So, I have to click map network drive on the XP computer and hit "login with other credentials" and enter the username/pass for the user account on the Win 7 machine (we'll say Bob for user and Smith for password for the sake of example). It will mount the share (which is actually the C: root of the drive) just fine.
The only problem is the moment you restart the Windows XP system, it will lose the connection. My fix for it was to create a .bat file that contained the following: [code] I put it in the Progam FilesStartup folder to run upon boot. For the most part, it seems to work after a fashion. Some of the computers, though, will drop the connection to the two Windows 7 systems and need to be rebooted 1-2 times before they get it back again. Even clicking the .bat file manually will have the same result (you will have to reboot) if it drops the connection while you're using it. Plus, sometimes it doesn't map the drive correctly (I assume because the batch file is running before the connection has a chance to initialize on the LAN).I've also tried adding an "Everybody" user to the permissions on the Win 7 systems with full access, but it only seemed to cause problems with the existing connections. It might also be prudent to mention that both the Windows 7 and Windows XP systems are all 32 bit. I've also disabled the firewalls on the two Windows 7 systems. Neither of them have any antivirus or security software installed.

We have a newly-purchased RVS4000 v2 with firmware v2.0.2.7. Its intended role is as a gateway between our local network of wired workstations and a Cisco 2800 series Integrated Services Router, which is at the receiving end of our T1 line. It is configured with static IPs on both the LAN and the WAN side. It does NOT serve DHCP for the LAN. Ever since I installed it, I have had repeated complaints from users of Vista and Win7 workstations that they lose internet connectivity about every 20 - 30 minutes or so. The only solution is to unplug the workstation's CAT5 cable, count to 30, and plug it back in. Then everything's hunky dory for another 20 - 30 minutes. Meanwhile, all our Windows XP and Linux workstations enjoy uninterrupted internet access. The router/gateway we replaced (a DLink DIR-130) never had this problem.

I came across a situation where a client had an old PIX 525 running PIX 6.2. There was a Windows 2008 R2 server running Exchange 2010 that was having trouble delivering email to a handful of email servers. We then found out that we could telnet to these servers on port 25 but got no return traffic. We then went back the old email server that was running Windows 2003 Server and could telnet to port 25 on these email servers and got a response, saw the banner and could issue commands. The first thought was reverse DNS which we thoroughly checked and it was not. I turned off the smtp fixup protocol and that didn't fix it either. From workstations on the network running XP or Windows 7 or Linux you could telnet to these servers and you would get a response but just not with 2008 server. I spent hours on the phone with Cisco support and it was determined that the packets were returning and we could capture the packets on the outside interface but they were then dropped by the firewall. Using the 6.2 version of PIX we could not determine why the packets were being dropped. I suggested upgrading to the next major version to be able to troubleshoot the issue further. We then upgraded the PIX to version 7.0(8). After the upgrade we were able to telnet to the problem mail servers from Windows 2008 Server and there were no issues. Is there a know issue with Windows 2008 Server and PIX 6.2?

I use a MacBook Pro and am connected to my home's wireless network. For the past 2 years, it has worked without a hitch. Suddenly, Comcast changed to XFinity service and I now drop my Internet connection every few minutes. When I go to the airport, I can alway see it and reconnect (although sometimes it asks me for my WPA which is saved, but....). So I can't decided if I need a new wireless router (2 years old) or if the change to Xfinity made a difference. (Honestly, I think it's a name change and nothing more, but the timing is suspect.) I am attaching a screen grab of my iStumbler report. I live in a very populated area so you will see lots of networks. I am using Mathews1.Before you suggest hooking up via hardwire, the morons that built this house (and me, the moron who didn't notice), didn't bring cable up to the top floor where the bedrooms and office is. I'm not allowed via the home owners assoc to bring cable on the outside of the townhouse so unless I destroy walls and floors, I'm forced to wireless access only except for the basement where the router comes in.

I recently got a (new) Dell Inspiron 570 desktop. It didn't come with a wireless adapter, so I picked up a (new) TP-Link TL-WN781ND Wireless N PCIe adapter. Easy installation, worked immediately. Connection's not perfect, but I get 3 bars from across a house so it's about what I expected.Unfortunately, every little bit the connection drops. Sometimes it comes back within seconds, sometimes it lasts for several minutes; sometimes I won't notice it happening for hours, sometimes it drops every few seconds. There are two other computers on the network that don't suffer connection issues, and I've been able to test with my iPod that it's still connected at the same moment as my Dell is not.I tried updating the driver automatically, which oddly enough installed the driver for an Atheros AR9285, a different wireless adapter; and although everything seemed to still be working I gave it long enough to make sure the problem was still there and downloaded the correct driver from TP-Link's site, which didn't fix it either.

My internet has never had many issues, but since 2 days ago it has been frequently dropping the connection every so often (maybe every 10-30 minutes). The speed jumps all over the place, reaching as high as 2mb/s and then dumping down to 0.14 kbps while going up and down. I am not sure what the issue is. I am running wirelessly on my desktop using a D-Link DWA-130 adapter.

But i can still navigate around on a computer. So i have a gateway laptop, and a cisco router in my parent bedroom. They have computer's connected into it with a wired connection. My laptop is a wireless one. The connection will drop roughly 10 times a day. And the odd thing is , to get the connection to show back up on my wireless connection lists, i need to restart the router or it doesnt show. Its not a problem with signal strength, and obviously no problem with the router as my parent's stay connected during this. I called my ISP, they told me to call gateway. I did , and after that, i will never in my life associate with anything gateway ever, ever , again. I'm sure its a setting or software issue

I have a wireless Motorola modem that is hardwired to a computer that is usually off. This modem services 4 other computers in the house wirelessly and all experience the same frequent connection drops regardless of connection quality. I've had problems with this modem for as long as I can remember but it never bothered me because the problems were too far and few between; now, the connection has progressed to dropping within minutes of use. When the connection is dropped I cannot access my modem (plugging the ip address 192.168.0.1 into my web browser)The connection stays acceptable for a while after resetting but always reverts back to being a piece of crap. The connection drops most frequently when under heavy load i.e. steam downloading a game at my connection's full capacity, just only more frequently. The connection will still drop within the hour if I'm downloading anything or not.
I've tried rerouting the wireless modem into another wireless router before but it caused me new problems. Before this all started within last week, I contracted some spyware that redirected Google search links and also killed my connection frequently along with terrible slowdowns. I gave up trying to clean the system and reformatted but my internet connection still drops and it's now affecting all computers that connect to this modem. [code]

As I am more of a hardware guy and pretty clueless about networking, I thought I'd come here because I am pretty frustrated right now.So yesterday, I got an Amped Wireless SR10000 Repeater for Christmas. I had it set up and working with no problems. However, this message did pop up when it was finished:
I ignored it (stupid me) because I didn't know what to do. The connection worked fine for a while, but now a day later, the connection keeps dropping. I would assume it is because of this.I did a bit of research and it seems like setting up a static IP will fix the problem, but I have no idea how to do that.

I have an airlink ar525w wireless router. My wireless connection drops out every few hours and I have to reset my router to get it up again. My wired connections work perfectly. Also, I am able to see my network as available and with full signal strength from windows but connecting to it doesn't do anything (just says connecting forever). This is not isolated to one computer. I have tried it with laptops, desktops and smartphones. The strange thing is that it works perfectly (hasn't dropped a connection for one month) if I have wireless security disabled.I have tried different types of security (WEP, WPA, WPA2), different channels (all 11 channels), assigning static IP addresses to all my devices and turning off the DHCP server on my router. But none of these settings fix the problem. would be willing to buy another router, but I was reading through reviews on newegg and every router that I saw reviews for has a few people experiencing the same problem that I described here. Is this a widespread problem that I have to live with or does this have something to do with my router specifically?

If i run an open wireless network without encryption, the laptop is always picks up the connection. However when I got to WPA encryption, the laptop works fine until I leave it in standby or shut it down. In order to connect it after leaving in on standby or a shutdown I need to reset my Linksys router.I have another laptop that never seems to drop the wireless connection, so I don't think it's a router issue, but something on the other laptop.
