Wireless Dropping Every Few Minutes?
Jul 12, 2011
I use a MacBook Pro and am connected to my home's wireless network. For the past 2 years, it has worked without a hitch. Suddenly, Comcast changed to XFinity service and I now drop my Internet connection every few minutes. When I go to the airport, I can alway see it and reconnect (although sometimes it asks me for my WPA which is saved, but....). So I can't decided if I need a new wireless router (2 years old) or if the change to Xfinity made a difference. (Honestly, I think it's a name change and nothing more, but the timing is suspect.) I am attaching a screen grab of my iStumbler report. I live in a very populated area so you will see lots of networks. I am using Mathews1.Before you suggest hooking up via hardwire, the morons that built this house (and me, the moron who didn't notice), didn't bring cable up to the top floor where the bedrooms and office is. I'm not allowed via the home owners assoc to bring cable on the outside of the townhouse so unless I destroy walls and floors, I'm forced to wireless access only except for the basement where the router comes in.

I have a brand new EA3500 (three months old) that has worked fine until recently. For some reason the wireless keeps dropping all connections every few minutes. I have checked the internet connection and that is not it as I can be hardwired to the router and the internet never drops. This happens to every device in the house (two Xbox, tablet, multiple PC's) at the same time, or randomly between. The devices are a mix of G and N so it is not associated with just one particular band. I have verified the wireless phone, microwave, or anything else that might interfere with the signal is running. One thing I have noticed is that when the wireless connection drops, the actual signal does not go away, I can still see it with a wifi analyzer. This is very frustrating as I just replaced a previous Linksys router with this one for the very same reason. Perhaps I should have bought some other manufacture.

We recently moved in with some family, and we brought with us a Belkin N wireless Router. I set it up to their existing internet modem (I'm not sure what type it is or anything, I just know that the ISP is Optus) about halfway through January.
It's been working fine until Friday. Since setting it up, both my brother and I have (at different times) been playing Star Wars Battlefront II online. On Thursday night I was playing online fine, with no lag or anything (with a ping of about 138), however, ever since Friday it has been lagging non-stop. I have the same ping so I thought it must have been because we've gone over the limit for the month and the internet slows down.
However, every few mintutes (1 or 2 normally) the connection between my laptop and the network drops, and then within another few minutes connects again. I am running Windows Vista Business. My brothers laptop has the same problem, and he has Vista Home installed.
At first I thought it was a problem with the router, so I updated the firmware and restored the factory defaults, but the problem remains. When I get onto a website (if I'm lucky enough for the connection to stay) it normally loads pretty fast, so I dunno if we've gone over the limit or not (and I don't know the password to check).

I just have recently been experiencing some dropping off the internet.. My phone company has been out here and has done tests, and changed out my wireless modem with a new one, switched me to a new high speed port.. cleaned up the cables outside my house.. installed a new jack.. and we have yet to solve this intermittent dropping and reconnecting... I am starting to wonder, if not anything else with my outside line.. is there something else causing the problem. I switched my channel from 11 to 9.. *my neighbor is on channel 11* thought maybe his was interfering with mine .I am using WPA, I have disabled the power adapter from "saving power" in the adapter settings..
When the internet does drop off the DSL light on the modem goes out, and then comes back on..its not blinking off and on, just off.. then waits.. then reconnects to the net, it's almost like it's refreshing or something every couple of minutes. The modem is a Siemens Speedstream 6520

when im on my laptop and im on the internet, the connection goes from normal to Limited (yellow triangle caution sign by connection),non of the pages will load after that,i use diagnostics repair to fix the problem which works about 40% of the time, but is only temporary again.give it 5 minutes after the fix it happens again, diagnostics say the problem is with the wireless adapter card which is built into the laptop itself.i do and dont think this may be the cause since everything house loads perfectly fine but can have the occasional drop out aswell,on average i'd say it drops out about 10 times a day and i find it kind of frustrating. My Laptop is a Acer Aspire v3-531.My internet is with Virgin Media and i get around 60 MBps with them but the disconnections drop it to about 7mbps and keeps going down till the connection is actually gone.
P.S:The intel Proset wireless framework on this computer fails the hardware test straight saying the wirless hardware is not bound to the transport driver? what do i do?

I have a cisco RV180 hooked up to a cisco cable modem and Cox service.
The basic symptoms of the problem are that every 10 minutes or so external connections will hang. This lasts maybe 20-60 seconds. If you're loading a website when this happens, various parts of it won't load and firefox will sit and spin indefinitely (it seems) until you manually stop the loading and click the reload button.
When this is happening I can still connect to the routers webserver and dashboard that auto-refreshes every 10 seconds. It seems perfectly fine. My initial theory was that something was broken on the Cox end of things, but after swapping out the RV180 with an old on-q router we had laying around, we haven't seen the problems.
Some other differences I've noticed between the on-q and the rv180:
* with the rv180 traceroute to external hosts shows a big delay (500-600ms) at the hop right after the router. With the on-q, it's 12ms.
* when I ping the ip of that hop with the large delay, with the on-q I get no responses. With the rv180 I would get these strange host redirect messages that make it look like that ip is redirecting to itself. There would be 1 or 2 of those redirect responses, followed by 3 or 4 errors, and every packet would be listed as an error in the ping summary.

A couple of days ago, after a suggestion in a old forum post (rv180 dropping connections every 10 minutes or so) I tried increasing the various session timeouts. This didn't seem to affect anything for the first day, but last night the router started becoming unresponsive (not responding to pings, but maybe continuing to route established connections.) After a couple minutes the router would be pingable again, and as soon as i could I reverted the changes I made to the session timeouts. That didn't seem to fix the problem. Logs showed many many warnings saying "nf_conntrack table full, dropping packet."
Then as soon as I got on the phone with small business support the problem seemed to correct itself. The only thing we changed was decreasing the MTU to 1472. It is strange that the MTU would make a difference all of the sudden, isn't it?

I went through the hoops with my ISP (knology) and they are adamant that it is the router that is the problem. I've tried two different routers, an E2000 and a wrt120n (it may be 160n..).. both do the same exact thing. I'm extremely tired of it. I was told it could be an IP issue or something related to DHCP.
Modem:
System: ARRIS DOCSIS 2.0 / SIP 2.0 Touchstone Telephony Modem HW_REV: 04
VENDOR: Arris Interactive, L.L.C.
BOOTR: 6.24
SW_REV: 6.1.77T.SIP
MODEL: TM602G
Router: E2000
Problem: Internet 'lags out' every 10-15 minutes for approximately 3-10 seconds. It only does this when I'm connected through the router and never when I'm plugged directly into the modem. It happens most commonly when my brother and I are both online at the same time. It's rare when we only one of us is online.

My wireless cuts out randomly, sometimes every 5-10 mins and others can be on for hours. I have to go to the network connections, disable the wireless then enable it again for it to work. The wireless icon sometimes has a yellow triangle with a ! in it and sometimes has a red cross over it. This happens when I'm sitting next to the router. I have my PS3 and WII set up to it too and they work fine and they are further away from the router so dont think its that.

I have a problem with my wireless connection. I recently installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit OS and bought a new NETGEAR genie router WNR2200. I am experiencing lag spikes in 1-2 second duration while playing games. These lag spikes freeze the game and send my ping sky high (ping 999ms). While browsing the interwebz I don't really notice the lag spikes because they are only a few seconds long.Changes I have made (PC):
Disabled Client for Microsoft Networks
Disabled ANOD Network Security Filter driver
Disabled QoS Packet Scheduler
Disabled File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
[code]....
Mode: Up to 300MbpsAfter all these changes and tweaks I still get the exact same problem I started out with. The above changes were recommended by users of random forums to fix wireless lag spikes. Using a cat5 cable is not preferred (and perhaps not possible) as I am renting from random people and the router is on the other side of the house.

I turn my laptop on, start browsing in the internet, etc. A few minutes later I can't do anything. Pages won't load, skype stops working. So I go to Wireless Connections, disconnect from the channel and connect again. After that the internet is back and working fine. Same thing happens a few minutes later. I'm assuming that the problem's with my laptop, because phone still has internet connection and before my desktop PC broke it was working OK (with wired connection). My wireless card (not sure how it's called) is Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230.

I'll start with the beginning of the problem to see if there is a way to fix this.At Christmas I got a graphics card upgrade and power supply upgrade to play games better on my computer. Roughly, from what I can tell, ever since then my computer and my computer only has been having this horrible internet problem. The internet constantly either slows down or totally goes off for seconds or minutes when loading websites, watching youtube, and playing online games. I got this upgrade to play games like Battlefield 3 and various higher requirement games, most of which were multiplayer. Now I cannot play any of them because when I go into an american server with 60-90 ping, I get 200-400 ping and teleport all around like crazy. Makes playing the game impossible. When watching youtube, the video will stop buffering and my whole internet for my computer will shut down and about 1-5 minutes later, it will come back up and load the video.
I might just even be on the web and I try to load a page and bam, Firefox could not load page. I use firefox, windows 7 home premium 64 bit. Model is HP pavilion p6654y. It is not the internet causing the problem from what I can tell because we have not touched the router or modem or anything. Sadly, I do my school online and if I cannot get this fixed by tuesday when school starts next week I am totally dead. I have tried updating drivers, updating java and flash player, using different web browsers,(which wouldn't work anyway because my games would still work badly) I have also scanned multiple times with Kaspersky anti-virus 2012. I know that my computer hasn't slowed down, it's the internet on my computer that has. Singleplayer or non-internet activities work faster than ever of course

For quite some time now my parents' wireless internet cannot seem to keep a wireless signal anywhere in the house unless you are sitting next to the router. I've been doing everything I know to try and keep the signal strong enough to use it down the hall in the living room.
I've tried using different frequencies and channels however this only seems to work for an hour then the network will fall off the network list entirely and then a few minutes later will pop back in. What is causing this signal to die out completely every few minutes? They've tried countless numbers of wireless routers in hopes it would fix the problem however this never seems to work. Is this an issue with the ISP and/or the modem they provide us? Wired connections work fine, just wireless connections refuse to either stay up or constantly disconnect the user from the network.

I have a Talk Talk Unlimited Internet connection in the UK.The modem they provided is D-link DSL 2780 N type ADSL+2 router. The wireless net connection is shared by 5 other people in my flat and as far as I am aware - their connections seem to be seamless..In my case - the speed of the wireless connection starts deteriorating after about 20 mins - i.e the pages start loading slower, and then a while later the pages don't load at all - but the signal strength and connection would be displayed as normal..When I try to disconnect and reconnect- Windows says it's unable to connect to the router..It runs some diagnostics and advices me to turn the router off and then on

I'm having a problem with my wireless internet connection. Just recently my roommates and I got cable internet and a wireless router for the house. Since connecting to the wireless router, it keeps on disconnecting me and then reconnecting once every 2 minutes about. The disconnection last for only 10 seconds but is very annoying and disrupts everything I'm doing on the internet. What is going on and how can I fix it?

The wireless connection works perfectly fine nearly all the time - connection strength always says excellent. A couple of times a day, I'm in the middle of doing something online and find I've suddenly lost wireless connection. A couple of seconds later this is reflected in the network connection icon in the taskbar. A couple of seconds after that, I'm connected again. Several seconds later, it's off, then on, then off, then on.. until a few minutes has elapsed, when suddenly everything is back to normal and I have a solid connection again.I'm literally disconnected for a couple of seconds at a time, over a period of a few minutes, but enough for anything I'm working on (loading a page, downloading or uploading something) to cut out. And for a large majority of the day, it is perfectly stable.
The router is not losing connection to the internet (have checked the logs, and when it happens I normally plug in with a cable and have no problems). I've yet to be able to test whether the same thing happens to another computer connected to the same router at the same time. Our microwave used to interfere with wireless but it isn't being used here, unless it is a neighbour's - though that would cause things to slow down / hang for a little while, rather than flick on and off in such a predictable pattern.(Have also scanned for driver updates, but it says I have the latest version - Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN, 12.0.0.82).

my ping spikes to 1k+ all the time, making online games pretty much unplayable. Sometimes I'll lag up to 3k ms and by the time my ping is back to normal, the game is so behind it is messed up forever.I've looked online for days trying to find solutions, and trying all kinds of things. The problem started after i reinstalled windows xp (it actually started right after my power flickered after i reinstalled, but i think that may be coincidence. I'm not sure though.). I've reformatted since then, but the problem still persists.I think the problem might be WZC, but when I try stopping the program like other people have done, my wireless network disconnects pretty soon after. I've also tried just using the intel software, but that didn't work either. It was fine for a while last night after I changed to the intel software, but after maybe an hour or so it went back to lagging.I have Intel PROSet Wifi agn 5100 as my network card. I'm on a laptop. I also tried doing a ping test in command on my mom's laptop, and it never spiked like mine. Is my network card maybe just too old? I got the laptop almost 4 years ago.

I got a brand new Vizio Ultrabook CT14-A4 running Windows 8 64bit. The problem is that the wireless will disconnect every 10-15minutes for about 30 seconds and then reconnect. It will show full bars but say No internet access or Limited. If I try to reconnect it will say that it is unable to connect to this network. I updated Windows to the fullest and updated all my drivers including the one for Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222 Wireless Network adapter. Nothing changed. It does this on every wifi I connect to. Including home, school, other people's houses, etc. My other computer running Windows Vista works just fine with all of these wifi networks. It only disconnects for 30 seconds to a minute, but it is irritating because it will interrupt my downloads, and time me out of any sensitive websites I was on like the bank or the University self-service website.

Did anyone use EA4500 with L2TP connection? I really don't know what to do. I bought this router because I wanted to setup my home network with really high quality up-todate and efficient router. Previously I used Dlink DIR685. Everything was OK but lately my ISP increased internet speed up to 40 megabit per second and Dlink can’t establish connection at a speed higher than 20 mbit/sec. So I bought the best router – I thought so. Router appeared to be rather powerful – the connection was established at a speed ~ 34 mbit/sec, wifi broadcast occurred to be also of high speed and long range. But the main and terrible problem is that the longest internet session for the last 10 days was about 30 minutes. And that is with "keep alive" setting activated. That is awful! My Dyn DNS service doesn’t have even enough time to update my new IP in its DNS base. Of course that is way I can’t get external access to my ftp most of the time. I believe that its firmware ver.2.0.37 is very raw. And there is no any firmware on Linksys site so I can’t neither reinstall firmware 2.0.37 nor downgrade to 2.0.36. Hope this bug will be corrected soon. May be that is defect of this specific router?

I have tried many times to reflash it with that new firmware but no avail. I wish I had the old firmware back because it was working fine till I did this upgrade.
