We run windows server foundation 2008 and have about 15 workstations. I had been running the network on 10 workstations prior to moving the server to our new location about a month ago. All was working well. We had run with the 15 workstations no problem in our new facility for several weeks. many of the computers are dropping the network connection now intermittently, with no predictable pattern. I can't seem to reproduce the conditions that cause the drops.
Running 5 PC's and a laptop on a wired/wireless network at home. One PC running Win XP Pro started dropping the network connection (so it appeared) during browsing. Have found the following:
1. MSN messenger runs fine, and doesn't drop out 2. AVG antivirus updates with no issues 3. Web Pages in Chrome and IE will load fine one minute, then cannot load or pause for 1-2 minutes while loading 4. Can ping web addresses/IP addresses from command prompt with no issue. 5. Have changed the network connection from Ethernet to Wireless, which makes no difference to the issue. 6. If I "repair" the connection, and the network refreshes the IP address, I can browse successfully, for about a minute, before the issue occurs again. "Repair connection" again and can browse again for a minute. 7. Checking connected devices to the Netgear router, shows the PC name sometimes, against the IP address, other times it shows the PC as "unknown" against the PC address (when this occurs, web browsing is lost) 8. All other PC's on the network are fine.
I have a Compaq with XP wired on a Network with a Belkin N600 Router.There are 5 computers on the Network, (4 wired, one wireless) and this is the only computer that I have problems with connectivity. It connects to the Belkin through 2 switches.Typically when I turn the system on it connects, downloads mail, etc. After a short period of time there is no connectivity to the network for printing nor the internet.I may get connectivity randomly again after a while, but you never know if or when you will get connectivity again for sure. I am using Explorer.I had loaded some Belkin software with no luck so I uninstalled it. The other computers have no special software for the router.
I have cable modem coming into the basement hooking up to Linksys Cable Modem (1 yr old). The cat6 line leaves the cable modem and goes approximately 60' through the wall to an Asus-NT66U wireless router on the main floor into the WAN port.I then have a cat6 line go back through that same 60' of wall coming off the LanPort1 of the Asus-NT66U router into a Cisco/Linksys SE2800 8 port gigabit switch (a year old as well).
The problem I am having is as follows. I have been getting intermittent "Unidentified Local Network" problems off an on which I have tried many of the fixes for, evidently unsuccessfully ranging from duplex speed, network ID etc. I had updated the firmware on the NT66U to the latest and am still having problems.
I never have problems with the wireless network which always has connectivity to the internet, however the local is the regular problem. So, to further compound things I have 3 Smart TV's hooked up to the Cisco SE2800 switch over cat6 as well. Those were all working recently until this most recent hiccup and now none of them are working regularly. They can sometimes "see" the wired network and my media server software, but it is intermittent, slow, and never works and often can't see at all.
The TV's are all set to static IP's over the wired network (192.168.1.114/.115/.116) they are the only static IP's out there.The cables are all good and have been repeatedly tested in a variety of ways. All the drivers and firmware are up to date.I think I have a problem with the router/switch communicating and passing through data,The switch does not need a crossover cable, does not seem to have a management menu, and not sure what else to do.
I have a Cisco 1242 AG wireless access point with the goal of having multiple SSIDs. I set up one network which broadcasts correctly but only sometimes can I connect to it.
And, even if I connect to the network, I cannot get a DHCP address for the client.Other devices connected (but not through this Access Point) to the associated VLAN 60 can get a DHCP address and connect just fine.Here is the configuration for the Cisco 1242 AG access point in question: [code]
Lastly, here is the information on VLAN 60 from the distribution switch. As mentioned, other devices connect to this VLAN and get IP addresses just fine.
I just built a new computer running Windows 7 with an Intel 82579V Gigabit on the motherboard. Since last night while playing an online game, I have occasionally noticed sudden network failures where I either time out of my game or severely lag for 10 seconds before the game catches up.
My other network hardware and setup remains unchanged during this build.I have never had issues with my internet connectivity from my ISP.
The problem is not consistent and I'm not sure how to repeat it. I was playing my online game for several hours and then suddenly started having problems every 5 minutes with disconnecting.I can watch the network utilization in the Windows Task manager drop suddenly and then spike back when I reconnect to the game. Similar visual seen on the Tomato software on my router.
So far I've grabbed the latest drivers for the network chip from my motherboard manufacturer's website and turned off Teredo. I also made sure no power saving features were enabled on the network chip in the device manager.
We are facing issue related to STP.I am getting MAC FLAP error on Cisco 4510 switch. The effect on network is intermittent Pkt drops in the network. When I checked the specific Ip address I am getting the same with two different. [code] Vlan is created on CORE switch and assign priority 0 than CORE switch should be the Root. but instead Root port is becoming the port where server is connected. Server at last connected to CORE switch via HP switch via other Vlan to CORE switch and creating a loop as shown in Diag. [code] The Priority of Vlan 102 is changed and Root port has been changed due to that. The Bridge ID is the same as CORE switch.
So my sister moved the router to a room which we did not realize had a broken phone jack. we moved it back to the place it has always been. However,the desktop in my room has been dropping connection while the other laptops are working fine.The first problem was being unable to load any pages at all.If I left it there, it would stay connected.Open up firefox and try to surf, my wireless network will disconnect.I unplugged and replugged the router to see if it fixed it.I can now surf a bit but my ms is always around 300-500 ms.Seeing as how replugging the router worked,I tried again.I can connect to some pages with a ping of 10-25 ms. However, any game installed on the desktop when running will either disconnect me or cause extreme lag.This has only started to happen after the router was moved.
I have noticed a few times over the last month that my PC would not load pages due to connection problems. If I hover over the Network icon, it say that I am not joined to a network but within minutes, it reconnects itself. I use http://www.scan.co.uk/products/zyxel-pla-4201-500mbps-mini-powerline-adaptor-twin-pack power adapters and they "appear" to work well with good speeds as I download and game online alot. I have noticed that today the problem is really bad. It loses its connection every 5 or 10 minutes and then reconnects itself as if nothing has happened. I tried using my iphone on the wireless and it also seemed to have dropped out on connection. I have tried resetting my router too but with no joy
I'm looking to improve my connectivity,as the internet drops out a few times a day.Let me explain - I hope I'm correct in my assumptions.Every few hours, my PS3 will have a DNS error, and upon checking my iPhone, I notice that it's switched from wifi over to 3G and there seems to be a loss of connection. I cannot reconnect to the internet until I've restarted my router, or 'forgotten' and rejoined the network.
Additionally, we have an Apple TV, and connection drops out about 3 or 4 times every hour, which is very frustrating when trying to watch a movie.
My internet connection has been dropping intermittently over the past week or so.This all seems to have started when my brother called Verizon because his laptop would not connect. He restored his laptop and he was having issues connecting. They changed something to allow him to connect.
I have a mix of devices that all access the internet via a Deutches Telkom Speedport W 723v my windows devices, HTC phone and even the iPad 2 never have a problem, but my Macbook Pro (Unibody Late 2008 model) and my iMac (Probably 2007 / 2008) keep having a problem with the network dropping out. To fix it I have to switch off Airport and switch it back on again and it re-connects straight away.The Mac OSX software albeit now rather dated on both devices (The Macbook is 10.5.8) is kept up to date using Software Update.The problem amy also now be affecting my APPLE TV2 it never had a problem before but now I cannot connect to iTunes on my Macbook using Home Sharing it just does not want to connect!!!I did try before going into the Speedport and changing channels from AUTO to channel 1 but that did not resolve it. I am going to do it again and try a different channel but logging onto the Speedport is an absolute pain, I can only login using my Macbook Pro when it is booted into Windows XP and on Ethernet as we had all sorts of problems setting it up and could only do it using IE not SAFARI and now the Speedport login only recognises 1 x PC for logging in, if you try a different device it throws a wobbly and locks up!
I have two different friends that are having problems with their printers which are connected to their home network. One has an Lexmark printer wired to their router and running Windows Vista on a laptop. The other has an HP printer connected to the network wirelessly and the laptop is running Windows 7.
In both cases, they are setup to use DHCP. When first setup and the printer software was installed, everything worked fine. Now they each get a message showing 'offline' when they try to print. I went to each of their houses, downloaded and installed the latest printer software and they were printing again. After a short time, the same problem surfaces.
Connection goes out from time to time. Especially when downloading and uploading. Ive posted here before and the problem fixed it self for a few days and now its back again. Drivers are up to date. Router firmware is up to date

Recently I've pulled a PIX 501 out of a closet (having never been used) and configured it for a VPN with my PIX 506e at an offsite location. This offsite location has a PC, Printer, Access Point, and remote VOIP phone. The VPN itself works great, but periodically the PIX just drops some network devices, specifically the Access Point and the Firewall. Both devices stay off until I reboot it (through an SSH connection) they then spring back to life.

I have an Ubuntu box, 11.04 x64, running on a Dual Opteron SFF box (iWill ZMaxDP... pretty old machine). Up until a few weeks ago, it was acting as a Windows 2008 Server, but i moved it to Ubuntu.
Anyway, the machine will not stay on the network for any amount of time, without falling off... I have changed network cards, cables, ports on the switch, etc, and nothing seems to work. I have a Windows 2003 box giving out DHCP addresses, and for a while, i actually tured that off and setup a second Ubuntu box to give IPs... it made no difference. The box gets an IP, and can ping outside for a bit (2 min or so) and then just looses connectivity... ifconfig shows it with an IP (i have tried both Static and DHCP config) and nothing seems to work.Restarting the network stack (/etc/init.d/networking restart) some times gets a connection working for a few min, but then it falls over again..
Just to note, the main onboard network card is not showing up for some reason. I have an Intel Dual GigE PCI card installed. Eth2 is the "Working" interface, an ETH3 is not connected to anything.... Also, this is probably the first time since i installed the machine that the connection is staying up.
I have a desktop computer and a laptop computer both running Windows 7 Home Premium. The desktop is connected to the router directly and the laptop is connected to the wireless network. When I restart both computers, I can see and access the other computer through the home network without problems. But after a while, sometimes just a few minutes, I can only see the other computer but cannot access it. Sometimes, I cannot even see the other computer. If I do a "ipconfig /release" and a "ipconfig /renew", it may sometimes correct the problem for a while.
I have looked at many related discussions on the web and none of the suggestions work for me.I have the firewalls disabled on both computers, as well as the ipv6 and IP service. I have also disabled the Bonjour service.I have turned a number of services, such as computer browser, server, workstation and many others to automatic as people suggested.
I have two wifi routers which I have connected together with an ethernet cable to extend coverage across my house. The ethernet cable is connected to a LAN port on the first router and the internet port of the second router. This works fine and creates a second network that I can connect to the net on. The problem iseemingly randomly, about every 15 minutes, the second router will lose internet connection. My laptops and phone still stay connected to it, but windows lists it as having no internet connection. If I then wait a couple of minutes and reconnect, internet will be working again.
About 4 months ago or so I had what I though was a firewall problem, tuned out to be two bad switches or so I thought. I replaced the switches with 3 com switches and everything seemed fine. Until Monday, my network was down again I though because I had a patch cable plugged into the same switch because when I took that patch cable out of the picture and reboot the switches everything seemed good. Then Tuesday I installed a new Cisco 2960 to relieve some of the stress on a switch. Then I plugged in another 2960 and started checking out the network assistant and monitoring tools but every time I clicked refresh or just clicked on the newer of the two 2960s the network connection would bounce? Now today the switch that had been in production the 3com just started to bounce its connection on and off ? I had to plug everything into the new 2960 and unplug the 2nd 2960 to keep the network stable, well its only been about a half an hour.
Are the switch trying to sync speeds with each other?
Periodically I will loose internet connection even though when I click on the wireless applet in the tray it says connected. If I disconnect and re-connect it will work fine for a few hours. Takes all of 20 seconds to do. Any problems with 1703 wireless card? Have installed the latest drivers.
I have two Windows 7 Ultimate computers and around 10 Windows XP (Home and Professional, SP2 and SP3) computers trying to connect to it. It's just a LAN (no internet access).I have set all of the password-protected sharing off on the Win 7 systems. I have tried opening up ALL of the permissions and such (since security is not really an issue).When I try to map the network drive, it won't let me merely connect to it. So, I have to click map network drive on the XP computer and hit "login with other credentials" and enter the username/pass for the user account on the Win 7 machine (we'll say Bob for user and Smith for password for the sake of example). It will mount the share (which is actually the C: root of the drive) just fine.
The only problem is the moment you restart the Windows XP system, it will lose the connection. My fix for it was to create a .bat file that contained the following: [code] I put it in the Progam FilesStartup folder to run upon boot. For the most part, it seems to work after a fashion. Some of the computers, though, will drop the connection to the two Windows 7 systems and need to be rebooted 1-2 times before they get it back again. Even clicking the .bat file manually will have the same result (you will have to reboot) if it drops the connection while you're using it. Plus, sometimes it doesn't map the drive correctly (I assume because the batch file is running before the connection has a chance to initialize on the LAN).I've also tried adding an "Everybody" user to the permissions on the Win 7 systems with full access, but it only seemed to cause problems with the existing connections.It might also be prudent to mention that both the Windows 7 and Windows XP systems are all 32 bit. I've also disabled the firewalls on the two Windows 7 systems. Neither of them have any antivirus or security software installed.
I have a work computer...Dell Latitude 6400, AT&T Global Network Client (Company VPN service), using Novatel USB551L from Verizon, with their new 4G LTE. First connect to Verizon, then it automatically launchs ATT Global Network Client, once connected, the system automatically maps drives. I stay on for about 15 minutes average to 40 minutes that's when the Verizon drops/disconnects. This consistantly happens throughout the day!
1. If I connect to a "local" wireless signal NO dropping.
2. If I tether my Sprint Android, NO dropping.
Only dropping with the Verizon. I MUST have the Verizon dedicated to this work computer to run the VPN and hopefully (very soon) a mandated VOIP with Avaya!Called Verizon- they sent me a new USB thinking that might fix it. But same thing. They are showing signal strength 4G. Nothing on their side.
I have recently deployed a wireless network using a WLC 2504 with 21 Light APs. All seems fine except that Apple Devices drop their connections every 15 minutes or so. A couple of minutes later they can reconnect but obviously something is wrong.
I have been having a problem with my 4400n dropping connection when streaming video / audio.It is connected half duplex to a cat2950 and the media server is mediatomb on a linux box the client is a ps3 presently.
we have a Cisco 2901 as a router on a stick for several vlans. Everything on the segment routes fine and accesses the internet just as they should. The 2901 connects to an ASA5505 on port 0/1. Any host connected to the ASA5505 can access the internet, but can not ping into any of the vlans off of the 2901. The strange thing is on either segement of the network I can ping all of the gateways. What is even more strange is when I run wireshark from behind the firewall going into the 2901 I can not see the packet on another wireshark instance behind the 2901. However if I start a ping for a host host behind the asa I can see the packet in wireshark on the host, which I am trying to ping, hit the gateway.
I have a home network with a Linksys E4200 connected to the ISP's fiber box. The problem is that when I'm connected to the Linksys, either wired or wireless, the connection to the internet will drop after what seems to be a random amount of time (normally anywhere from 2-10 minutes). I can restore the connection by doing any of these things:-reboot Linksys-disconnect and reconnect cable from router to fiber box-if on wireless connection, make changes to the router wifi settings, like change the wifi channel.The internal network stays up, and I can ping both the internal and external ip of the router, but not the fiber box. I have also had the same behavior with an Edimax Wifi AP and less frequently with a Edimax router (once every 1-2 days). I have done everything I can think of:-changed the wifi channels-changed the ip ranges, subnets, turned router DHCP off and back on-booted the fiber box-changed cables-updated all routers to the latest firmware, the network cards with latest drivers...and loads other things that I don't remember right now. For the wifi side of things, there are no other networks in range that could interfere. The same problem occurs on both my and wife's Win 7 laptops and on the iMac (latest OSX). Here's a fun detail: while the Linksys has lost its connection to the internet, I can still access the internet through the old Edimax router connected to the same fiber box, either wired or wireless.

I'm having to reboot what is now my 2nd router every 1-2 days in order for all connections to resume working. My 2nd router was working great since Saturday afternoon, and just now I needed to reboot in order for my laptop to connect to the network.Now that it seems pretty clear the router in general isn't faulty, I suspected that the issue was IP lease related, so I was looking at DHCP settings and changed the lease time to 2880 (max setting), from 120 (default). However, this should only prolong how often i'll need to reboot the router. So, what is it that's causing my devices to disconnect or not being able to connect to the router for a prolonged period of time?
I get cut off after about an hour online. I have cable internet and they have been out to check. I have a new modem from the company. They have put the modem on a separate wire but the problem continues.
I have reason to be suspicious as to the game's relevance. These spikes are characterized by no packet loss, as measured by pingplotter and winmtr (more specifically, there is packet loss, but I've come to understand that because it does not continue on to subsequent jumps it's not an issue), and latency leaping to between 250 and 600ms across multiple hops, seemingly without pattern or form, for intervals
Here are some summaries of some extended pingplotter sessions. The suspicion that this is not entirely WoW related is recent, so I'm working on seeing if I can get similar results from some other sources.
I have intermittent internet access from a new laptop. When it works it is fast and consistent, but it seems there is a problem where I can sometimes start getting only part of an internet page, and then it stops downloading altogether.Below are ipconfig /all and ping tests and a screen shot of the device manager.A bit of background:1) There are 4 computers on the network, this laptop (samsung NP530) is the only one where internet is not working2) It is new, has avast installed as antivirus.
