Sharing :: Windows Xp Home Cannot Connect To Windows 7?

Dec 31, 2011

I have a win xp laptop which connects via wireless to a cheap belkin router I have a Win 7 pro laptop which is hardwired to the router. The Win 7 machine is NOT set up for home groups. We are all on the same workgroup.

I have added the user name from the XP machine to the Win 7 pro machine with admin rights. I shared a folder on Win 7 and added the user name and gave read/write rights. I have no software firewall.

When I try to connect via win explorer via the workgroup I see the Win 7 machine (after 10 seconds). I see 'User' folder which I can browse and I see the folder that I shared but I can't access it. Access denied...

Sharing Files Over Home Network With Windows 8?

Nov 6, 2012

Okay so I had all this set up to be simple back in windows 7.

Basically, what I did was turn off password required sharing or whatever, so all I had to do was click on networks in the left side panel when i was in My Computer and click on say, my wifes laptop and it'd open the public folder she had there, and I could drag and drop stuff into and out of it. And same for her and seeing mine.

Now that I have windows 8 on my PC It's all buggered up.

I didn't change ANY settings on HER laptop, but when I try and access it (I used it to back up important files while fresh installing w8) it's asking me for a username and password

I'm trying to set up a network/file sharing system, and more importantly, I'm trying to be able to print on a computer other than my office computer.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Cannot Get Home Sharing To Work With Windows 7 PC

Jan 17, 2011

I cannot get my home sharing to work with my Win7 PC - specifically my library does not show up on the ATV2 computers section. I have done all the proper setup (me thinks):

- turned on home sharing on the pc and put in my password
- tried the done button "fix" to keep home sharing in the tree active....
- unplugged the apple tv and router multiple times....
- turned home sharing on and off in the ATV2 menu
- Itunes is permitted in the win 7 firewall page

Router - Dlink DIR-665.I decided to run an Ethernet cord across the floor and plug the atv2 in directly and within about 30 seconds my computer appeared and things were fine. I unplugged it allowing it reconnected to my wifi router it vanished.

Home Network :: How To Manage Data Sharing In A Little Intranet On Windows

Mar 10, 2012

I should set up a network for a little enterprise. The requirements can be summarized as follows:

- All the "business" softwares have to be stored in a single computer (let's call it "the server"). The other computers (in this case there should be at most 2 or 3 computers) can execute these softwares through the server. So there are no local copies of those softwares on clients, only on the server.
- The main computer (the server) shares also a printer.
- All the computers in the network, are interconnected through a single wi-fi modem/router. Some of them are connected through the wi-fi interface and others through an ethernet cable.

the server, in order to perform some special procedures, has to connect to a special modem which connects it to a remote private network. In order to do so, the server disconnects from the local enterprise network because Windows does not allow me to stay connected to more than one network at the same time. The remote private network does not require to disconnect from any other network, it's just a constraint imposed by Windows. In the meantime, clients are not able to execute softwares anymore and cannot print anything.when the server is connected to the private network, it still needs to execute the "business" softwares.

Is it possible to keep the server connected to both the networks without denying the access to softwares, data and printers to anyone? If yes, how?If not, how can I design the topology of the network in order to share softwares and other data among all the computers (server and clients)? It's important that when the server connects to the private network every computer (including the server itself) can still access softwares, data and printers.

Home Network :: Windows XP Cannot Connect To Secure WAP

Feb 28, 2012

My laptop suddenly stopped being able to conect to my home wifi router. It stays at "waiting for network to be ready" while at the back the wifi list stays at "acquiring network adress" for a couple of minutes and then resets to regular disconnected status. All my other wireless gadgets at home can connect with no problem whatsoever.Wifi strength is great and, when disabling security, the laptop connects without a hitch and very quickly. I tried all possible security combinations the router can give me, always using a second wifi device to check if connection and browsing was possible.I tried everything I googled: drivers, firmwares, ipconfig reset renew, started and stopped services, to no avail.

Windows 7 64 Bit Can't Connect To Home Network Printer?

Apr 5, 2011

I just installed Win 7 pro 64 bit on a new computer / hard drive. I can connect to my router which is hardwired to a computer running Win XP Pro 32 bit, but I can't figure out how to connect to my printer which is on that same network. I can access the internet, just not the printer - which is connected via Ethernet to the router. Is is possible that because Win7 is 64bit and the other computers on the network are 32 bit running XPpro - that it won't work? I have another XP pro computer that is connected via wireless that accesses the printer just fine.I have a netgear USB adapter on both the WinXP computer and also the Win7.Win7 is foreign to me. I can't find anywhere where I would 'join' the mshome network. It asks me about them joining ME.

Dell :: Can Only Connect XPS 13 (Windows 8) To Home Wi-Fi Connection

Mar 28, 2013

I have an XPS 13 - owned by me, not my employer - and it connects just fine to my home router. However, I cannot connect it anywhere else. It will see networks, I'll enter the security key, and it will tell me it cannot connect. This has happened at my office, at coffee shops, and at friends houses. So I try all the suggested troubleshooting steps and end up in some infinite loop of complete unhelpfulness. I am not a developer, hacker. or other IT professional so I have no idea what half the stuff they are telling me to do even means and most of the stuff (resetting routers etc) is not something I have the capability of doing anyway. My other computers (an ancient Toshiba running XP and a Dell Latitude running windows 7) connect with no issues. What is the problem with this<ADMIN NOTE: Substitute Character removed as per TOU> new machine?

Can't Connect To Home Network / Windows Unable To Find Certificate?

Jan 5, 2013

I just got back from vacation and suddenly can't connect to my Wifi network at home with my netbook anymore. It says validating identity but never connects. When I try to repair the connection, it keeps authenticating and then says that windows is unable to find a certificate to log me on to the network. I did some googling and it was suggested to uncheck the Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network box under the Authentication tab in Wireless Network properties. I tried that but then I get an error message saying "The network password needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your network configuration".I have no idea what to do or what the problem is. My other laptop works fine from which I have set up this network works fine. My phone seems to work fine, too. I already restarted the router and my netbook but that didn't work either.

Windows XP Professional - Cannot Connect Work Computer To Home Internet

Jun 15, 2011

I was recently given a computer from my workplace. I took this computer home, and put it in the place of my old one. The internet connection on my old computer has always been fine; all cables are connected correctly. However, this computer from work will not connect to the internet. The icon in the bottom right corner of the screen states that I am connected, but the internet browser claims that it is unable to display web pages. May the cause of this be related to any unique computer settings that a workplace may have on a computer in their network? Other computers have no problem connecting to the internet through the same, wired connection. The OS is Windows XP Professional.

Windows XP Home PC Won't Connect Properly Via Ethernet Cable To Router (Belkin N150)

Mar 27, 2011

My WinXP Home PC won't connect properly (limited connectivity/no internet) via ethernet cable to my router (Belkin N150). Ipconfig /all shows the IP address as 169.254.117.71 but this is determined by an entry in the registry at HLMSYSTEMCurre....'DhcpIPAddress' - REG_SZ - 169.254.117.71. Also listed at 'IPAutoconfigurationAddress'. My laptop connects fine plugged into the same port getting it's IP automatically (192.168.2.2) and getting internet fine. I've tried adding a DWORD entry 'IPAutoconfigurationEnabled' = 0, also tried deleting the 2 values.Tried setting the IP manually to 192.168.2.6 - limited connectivity goes away but I get no internet connection from the router nor file sharing.

Sharing Files Between A Windows 7 And XP PC

I have a small office network of 6 computers. I have just added the 6th computer running windows 7 home premium to the network and having a few problems. We are running sage accounts system and i cant connect to the main computer that is acting as the hub which runs of windows xp to acces the sage data. The main computer is visible on the network along with all other computers on the network but i cannot connect to it. when i click on it a box appears titles 'windows security' it asks me to 'enter network password' and says below 'enter your network password to connect to cornwall-31aae0' which is the name for the hub pc.

I type in the username and password for that computer and press ok and nothing happens the box flashes and remains the same as if stuck in a continual loop. i have tried various combinations of usernames and passwords including using the computer name as a username and none work.i have played around with the settings changing workgroups and network names etc to match the hub pc and none work either. i have disabled and enabled password protected sharing etc and none of this works either. i seem to have tried everything and also tried matching the settings so that it is the same to another pc on the network running windows 7 also but still makes no difference.

Internet Sharing Between XP And Windows 7?

Feb 22, 2011

I recently moved my computer from my home to my girl friend's house, and there is a minor problem. The laptop that has win7 already is in a homegroup. For some reason my computer(win7) does not want to connect to their homegroup. But I moved past that. Now I am trying to connect to her computer. She has Win xp. I used the same Ethernet cord from my house that I used to share internet over at her house, and I cannot seem to find out what is wrong. On the win7 it says Unidentified network-No Internet Access, and on the XP it says limited or no connectivity. I set the XP ICS to on (share) for the Ethernet port. The XP has the internet and is using a USB wireless adapter to a router. My computer is way to far from the router and neither can be moved.

Notes: I can share files, but no internet can be passed. XP = Host and Win 7 = Client
