Sharing :: Cannot Connect To NAS From Windows XP
Mar 10, 2012
I have three laptops and a NAS in our house. I can access the NAS fine from the Win Vista computer, but not the Win XP (sp2)machine.I can ping the NAS and can access shares through the web interface, but when I try to add a network location and use 'browse' or try to type in the address directly it cannot find it. Similarly, nothing shows up under 'My Network'.I do not have a firewall on this computer and file sharing is enabled.

I have a win xp laptop which connects via wireless to a cheap belkin router I have a Win 7 pro laptop which is hardwired to the router. The Win 7 machine is NOT set up for home groups. We are all on the same workgroup.
I have added the user name from the XP machine to the Win 7 pro machine with admin rights. I shared a folder on Win 7 and added the user name and gave read/write rights. I have no software firewall.
When I try to connect via win explorer via the workgroup I see the Win 7 machine (after 10 seconds). I see 'User' folder which I can browse and I see the folder that I shared but I can't access it. Access denied...

I need setting up File/Folder/Printer sharing in small office LAN and also secure Files (password protect) among users. I have attached two JPG files in which i have tried my best to show the network diagram and how i want to share the files and folders. All the PCs are connected and i have made one Windows 7 Ultimate PC acting as File Server keeping its D Drive in sharing with other five Windows 7 Ultimate PCs acting as clients. I just want to know how to protect Files as per my requirement. There are no fixed PC of any dept users. All the users or Dept Head use any PCs as per availability.

The Windows XP SP3 PC can login to the Windows 7 PC's file shares without a problem. But, the Windows 7 PC cannot login to the XP PC's file shares. Using the GUI I always get error code 0x800704b3. Using the "Net Use" command I always get "System error 67 has occurred. The network name cannot be found."This problem occurs regardless of whether I try to connect to the Windows XP PC by network name or IP address. On the Windows 7 PC I can successfully ping the Windows XP PC by both network name and IP address.

I have a small office network of 6 computers. I have just added the 6th computer running windows 7 home premium to the network and having a few problems. We are running sage accounts system and i cant connect to the main computer that is acting as the hub which runs of windows xp to acces the sage data. The main computer is visible on the network along with all other computers on the network but i cannot connect to it. when i click on it a box appears titles 'windows security' it asks me to 'enter network password' and says below 'enter your network password to connect to cornwall-31aae0' which is the name for the hub pc.
I type in the username and password for that computer and press ok and nothing happens the box flashes and remains the same as if stuck in a continual loop. i have tried various combinations of usernames and passwords including using the computer name as a username and none work.i have played around with the settings changing workgroups and network names etc to match the hub pc and none work either. i have disabled and enabled password protected sharing etc and none of this works either. i seem to have tried everything and also tried matching the settings so that it is the same to another pc on the network running windows 7 also but still makes no difference.

I'm trying to network my computer that runs XP to my friends laptop that runs Windows 7. He's created a homegroup and he's turned his file sharing on but he can't see my computer and I can't see his. He also can't share his public folder, it says "folder can not be shared." I have another computer on my network that runs XP and I can see that one on my network just fine and it can see my computer.

I recently moved my computer from my home to my girl friend's house, and there is a minor problem. The laptop that has win7 already is in a homegroup. For some reason my computer(win7) does not want to connect to their homegroup. But I moved past that. Now I am trying to connect to her computer. She has Win xp. I used the same Ethernet cord from my house that I used to share internet over at her house, and I cannot seem to find out what is wrong. On the win7 it says Unidentified network-No Internet Access, and on the XP it says limited or no connectivity. I set the XP ICS to on (share) for the Ethernet port. The XP has the internet and is using a USB wireless adapter to a router. My computer is way to far from the router and neither can be moved.
Notes: I can share files, but no internet can be passed. XP = Host and Win 7 = Client

I newly installed win 7 in 2 pc's. I had used the internet connection sharing when I had Win xp installed in them before. So I gave the static IP address,192.168.0.1 to the pc with the internet connection, and had the other pc obtained the IP address automatically. File sharing works fine, but somehow the 2nd PC could not be connected to the internet. When I checked its connection details, the Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address was 169.254.224.63. I think this IP address should be something like 192.168.0.xxx, but it's configured to auto, so I can't really do anything right now

I am trying to share my printer with the other 2 computers on my home network. I have the printer connected to my XP machine. The other 2 computers are running XP and Windows 7. The Windows 7 machine is directly connected to the router and my computer and the other XP computer are connected wirelessly.I've shared my printer and given it a share name. But the other 2 computers cannot access my computer for some reason.I'm not sure why they can't access my computer to see the shared printer.

I have my Windows 7 computer and my daughters computer with Windows Vista networked over a wired home LAN. For the most part, everything seems to work fine. I can access files on her computer, and she can access files from mine (photos, music, video, etc.). I set up a shortcut icons on her desktop for easy access to specific folders I am sharing on my computer. Unfortunately, when I share a folder on my computer, she is unable to view any files added after I initially shared it. So I routinely have to go in and share the folder again. It's not a huge issue, but it is annoying. The limitation seems to be one way, as I can access newly added files on her computer, without resharing.

We have a server machine running windows 7. just a few days ago, it started not being able to access its own sharing folders. From network, I can see all other computers(Xps and Window 7s). I can access other computer's sharing folders too. But when I try to access the server's own sharing folder, it gives me this error message:
"Check the spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network. To try to identify and resolve network problems, click diagnose. "

I'm running Windows 7 and I want to share folders with other users on my University network. I have the sharing enabled and people within my broadcast domain (the dorms) are able to access my shares. The problem occurs when trying to access those shares from academic buildings which are in a different broadcast domain (and are part of a different VLAN).I have verified with Wireshark that the requests to access the shared media do reach the Windows 7 computer, but for some reason it doesn't respond.

Internet Connection Sharing. On one of my pc's with Win 7 I try to use ICS and it does not work. I have tried forcing the ip address on the LAN connection on the host computer (192.168.0.1 or something) and it will not assign an IP address to any device hooked up to it.On my macbook running Win 7 and all the settings the same, all of the same devices work fine. I tried using a cross-over cable and switch (not at the same time) with no luck. Not using any firewall and I've tried for days.

I have been trying for the past 5 hours to set up a home network between my old HP Pavilion Windows XP PC, which doesn't have a wireless router, and another PC, running windows 7, on my wireless network. I want to remotely access the files on my old, slow, Big Bertha computer, which is soo terribly, horribly slow, using my new Win7 PC. But it won't let me! The XP PC is connected via ethernet cable to my Belkin Wireless-N router, and the new HP Win7 PC is connected to my wireless network via wireless signal. The computers cannot see each other or find each other on the network. I have tried- renaming the workgroup name on both PCs to be the same as the wireless network SSID, Installing some worthless "topology" update for the XP computer, which it refused to install, saying it didn't need it, Connecting the XP computer directly to the Win7 PC via ethernet cable and trying to bridge the LAN and Wireless connections on the Win7 PC and the LAN and Windows Network connections on the XP computer
