I have a Gateway Desktop, XP. Hasn't been turned on in about 6 yrs. I've been told that the LAN numbers are gone.GATEWAY wants $89 to give it to me. (NOT PAYING). SOOOOO, can I buy a LAN card and connect to the internet that way?

I have inserted it into the appropriate slot and when I start up Windows the device driver states that it has not installed correctly.The device driver is: Marvell Libertas 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Client Adapter. On my device manager list it has an error tag and when opened it comes up with the following message:This device cannot start (Code 10)I have tried to update the device, but I still get this error message and I have attempted to download new drivers off the internet but am unsure about what I am doing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been using an 802.11 b/g USB wireless network adapter card with my computer to use in conjunction with an AT&T 2Wire router,which is about 20 or 30 feet away off in another room.After about 10 minutes on average, the adapter will stop transferring data suddenly, and it will stay that way for a while. If I do nothing, then sometimes it will start up again after several more minutes, but instead of waiting, I usually will select "Repair" from the Wireless Network Connection pop-up menu, which also works to get it started again. The problem though, naturally, is that after another little while, like about 10 minutes again, it will short out all over again. Sometimes, very rarely, it will stay working for up to maybe an hour, and sometimes, it can short out yet again within a few seconds.

So this is a new Wireless-G Notebook Adapter(WPGC54G v1.2) I just got in the mail today. I went to the linksys/cisco website and they only have version 1, 2, 3, etc. Mine says 1.2 so I tried version 1. After installing and following all steps it said the software that connects was inactive.
After searching the internet a bit I found a thread stating v1.2 is version 2. So, I downloaded version 2 and ran that. Now the software isn't inactive but it doesn't "connect" in the linksys software, show any wireless devices, or do anything. I went into device manager and found the wireless card, updated drivers manually, and selected the folder I downloaded from linksys website to search for update drivers. It all ran fine and said drivers were installed. Still won't work. LINK light is not on card, POWER is.
Using a Toshiba Tecra 9000. So my last attempt... I uninstalled everything and stuck the card in and let windows recognize it. Selected manual install, went to the folder I downloaded for ver. 2 to search for drivers. Said everything installed and did drivers successfully but windows says "wireless network unavailable."
I was wondering what kind of wireless network adapter stick I should get for my windows 7 computer? My older one somehow had issues (device was not recognized or whatever)
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a Belkin F5D8053 N Wireless USB Adapter after my 6 year old adapter was unable to see my home network in the network list.
I installed the software but the adapter wouldn't connect to my home network so I reinstalled and updated the driver, still wouldn't work. Finally about 2 hours later it just randomly connected. Now it has been frequently (1-2 times a day) losing connection to my home network for around 3 hours, it can see a dozen networks in the list with full signal strength but won't connect to any at all then connects to my home network again several hours later.
I have switched between the Windows connector and the Belkin one and tried all 6 USB slots with no luck. I contacted Belkin support and they told me to try the device on another computer and see if the problem still happens but I don't have another computer to test it with.
I suspect this is a problem with my Windows installation rather than the hardware or router as my old card would freeze once every couple of days and was only fixed by powering off my computer as Windows was unable to kill the process to restart it.
Today I bought a TP-Link 150 Mbps Wireless PCI Express Adapter so I can pick up the internet connection in my house from my home PC. (We use a laptop most of the time which is able to pick it up fine).I've installed the wireless adapter into the computer and installed the drivers however I receive an error message:
"The device may not be present or could have been ejected/unplugged from the system. Insert of Reinsert Now."
I have an hp g62 laptop and it has an Atheros ar9285 wireless adapter and a realtek pci-e ff ethernet adapter. For some reason just recently neither will connect to my netgear cable wifi router. I have two smartphones,xbox and two other laptops that connect with no problem. Everything is configured correctly that i can tell and both drivers have been updated. still nothing, it trys to connect but keeps saying identifying then it says no internet access. also i have disabled firewall and entered the security paraphrase twice just to make sure.

I checked on Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and it gives me 0.20 mbps it is not going to the max my max is 3.00 mbps it is not the wireless usb adapter because i checked on another computer and it went to the max 3.00 mbps and i putted it in the same location as my computer so than i realised that it was my computer that is giving slow download speed and it can't find much connections.

I've tried installying the cd driver, all the relevant drivers on the TP link website, and the generic atheros driver. I've also tried manually installing all those drivers using device manager to no avail, and it says "a device attached to your system is not functioning"
But I know the physical adaptor is working because I was able to successfully install it onto another computer (it was a windows 8 preview version).
Everytime i plug the cable into my PC it doesn't detect it and the helper says to insert an ethernet cable.When I go to network sharing centre and check my connections it says network adaptor unplugged.im using wireless at the moment.My pc is a packard bell ipower x9810. it was windows vista but i upgraded to windows 7, i checked the packard bell website and can't find any networking adaptors. I have also checked device manager and it says - Belkin N+ wireless USB adapter #4 NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet. there is no yellow exclamation mark.

The adapter is a DLINK DWA-125 USB adapter.When logged into one of the admin accounts, internet works fine. When logged into one of the limited accounts, internet works fine.If I switch to either of the other accounts, the adapter can't get an IP address. If I switch back to one of the accounts that works, I get an IP right away.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs the title says I'm having really annoying 3 second disconnects every 3 minutes or so. I don't notice this when I'm browsing, just when I'm gaming. I realize that wireless and gaming don't mix but it's my only option at this point. What I'm looking for is a steady connection so I don't keep lagging out. I usually don't lag out from the server but it will say "There is a problem with your connection" for a second than resume as it takes a few more seconds to fully recover. The router in which its connected to is a room away though I live in an apartment so I'm not sure if that's part of the problem. The receiver I'm using is a dlink DWA-160.

I'm typing this on my Droid X so pardon the typos. I don't really know where to start or what direction to take so I'll list my major problem, then all the facts/info/and actions I've taken to attempt to fix the problem.Problem - I can not connect to the internet and no network adapter shows up under device manager I have an Asus 5671 running windows 7. I purchased the unit about a year ago.It's outside of the manufacturers warranty. Power went out about a week and a half ago and I believe this has something to do with the cause of the problem. I have repeatedly spoken to ASUS about this downloaded the network drivers from their site. When I install them I receive no error message saying they were installed incorrectly or failed to install, but my network adapter still does not show up. I have recovered my computer to factory settings and the problem has not gone away.
While attempting to recover my computer to factory settings, I found out it didn't already come with a recovery disk set up, so I followed the prompts to make a recovery disk (after all this trouble was already happening), so I wonder if creating a recovery disk was pointless since the network issue was already present. I have my router hard lined to my computer, and it's wireless on. The wireless works with my PS3. My computer itself is not wireless. Asus first said the problem was 100% digital, now say it's a hardware problem. I was told I will have to buy a new motherboard to fix the issue.
I have a G router, linksys. I am trying to configure a TiVo N adapter to this router. I have connected the adapter, via an either net connection, to my computer. I have taken the computer off my wireless network. I have opened Explorer and entered the address of the adapter per the TiVo instruction manual. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 with windows 7 and it has two wifi adapters, one is the 1397wlan and the other is a virtual miniport adapter. My carrier is at&t uverse/2wire and my service was disconnected for about eight or nine days and since then I cannot get my wi-fi back. The desktop computer works fine but my network adapters are showing attempting to authenticate and not connected for the miniport adapter. I have tried enable/disable, restoring to a previous date, ipconfig/release, and of course running the trouble shooter for Microsoft. The result is that they can't assist with my connectivity issue and that its either the adapter or my router. I can use the laptop with the ethernet cord but its not practical as the router is downstairs and I primarily work upstairs.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am using my Iphone 5 as a personal hotspot at home. It gets LTE so my speed is very fast as compared to satellite service from HughesNet. My laptop downloads at 12 mbs and uploads at 5 mbs versus satellite which is about 1 mbs. However, I installed a Linksys N300 usb adapter on my wife's workstation and it is actually slower than 1 mbs. The workstation is about 4 years old running on Vista. I have tried the usb adapter in all four usb slots with no change in performance.
