View 3 Replies View RelatedMy dad just had to send his Acer Aspire back to the manufacturer to get the fan replaced. It came back factory reset and would not connect to any internet wired or otherwise. He called me and I asked him to bring it over. I can get it to connect to via Ethernet at my house, however, wireless is a no go. The status bar goes between "no connection available" to showing my network with two bars. When I attempt to connect to my network I get the standard "Window was unable to connect to this network". I currently have another PC, a PS3, a smart phone, and a tablet all connected with no problem (and all at full bars), so I know it's not the router. I ran an ipconfig /all and this is what I got: [code] One thing I did notice is that my IP Routing Enabled was set to NO and when I looked at how to fix that it said to update a registry key.

Most of the fixes I have seen have been for laptops but I am having trouble finding fixes for a desktop (ethernet connected). Can somebody attach a link if this has already been coverered (I am sure it has but I just can't find it). I have a Compaq computer running Vista Service Pack 2.

I have just upgraded a laptop to vista, I didn't have any internet connection until I used a dongle to connect, after connection, it downloaded drivers to computer. Wireless now works without the dongle. I have no wired connection as it says "Media Disconnected." If I look in device manager, everything is working fine. I have looked on the net & tried a lot of checking various things but still no connection on lan. This is on an old laptop a advent 7109A. It was working fine on all connections until I upgraded.
View 19 Replies View Relatedwhen i open up my network connections tab, i see two icons: "Wireless network Connection" and "Local Area Connection"
It clearly says a cable is unplugged, but no cable is unplugged and i am 100% sure of that.
when i type "ipconfig" into command prompt, i see all these things that say "tunnel adapter Local area connection" and it says media disconnected.
how would i go about "Connecting" the media? i am concerned about this issue so much because, even though i can connect to the internet (ip:192.168.1.1) i cannot connect to my printer (ip:192.168.1.4) and when i tracert the printers ip it says "media disconnected" so i know the two errors correlate to one another.
Can't connect to the wireless network that is in the next room but I can connect across the street, I keep getting the message that the LAN Media connection is DISCONNECTED on connection 2, the computer trys to RENEW the IP address but can never do it, I have run CMD propmts pconfig/release, ipconfig/renew, ipconfig/all nothing works for my home system yet my laptop is connected my tower is running on the guy across the street.

I had problems connecting to my wireless internet for extended periods of time with my lease expiring almost instantly. Nobody else in my house had trouble connecting, only me. Troubleshooting the connection only showed that the default gateway was not available and failed to allow me to connect despite "fixing" the problem. I attempted the ipconfig/renew, netsh int ip reset reset.log, and netsh winsock reset catalog operations in cmd as an administrator to no avail. Finally, as a last resort, I reset my modem and that finally allowed me to connect although occasionally I would be kicked off the connection and have to restart the modem again. I would still like to know the problem and a possible solution since my friends seem to have a similar problem with their wireless internet.

I need to set a Windows 7 machine up as a static address and do an arp -s to a blocked router to send it a fresh firmware.Setting a static address that I could ping was never a problem in Windows XP, but for some reason Windows 7 have decided to be very passive about assigning a static IP until it gets an active connection. With an active connection there is no connection problems, but with a passive (where there is no response) I get a "Media disconnected" from ipconfig and the adapter don't get an IP assigned.I need to tell Windows not to try verify the connection, but just assign the static IP as before. I believe I somehow have to disable autoconfiguration for that network device, since assigning the static IP alone doesn't seem to do it. Turning off the DHCP Client alone doesn't do it either and shouldn't really be needed. get an IP assigned to the interface (and ignore the "Media connected" part)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a US Robotics 5462 router and a D-Link DCM-202 cable modem on Comcast. I've had this router for years and initially configured it for wireless access using a Windows XP system (this router requires you to configure it via Ethernet and 192.168.2.1). That computer stopped working last year, so I got a new computer running Windows 7.When I first got this new PC, I could not connect to my router via Ethernet (just like I can't now), but I was still able to connect to the wireless network I had previously set up, so I was satisfied.
A year went by, and last week I was suddenly unable to access my wireless network, so I did a factory reset on the router, erasing my previously configured wireless network and requiring me to connect the router to my computer via Ethernet to reconfigure the router. I tried to do this, but despite all of the correct LEDs being lit on the router, I could not access 192.168.2.1. A little poking around on my control panel revealed that my LAN was being labeled as an "Unidentified Network" and there was "No Internet Access." I tried to make it a private network, but that didn't fix the issue.
I searched around for a while and read some advice to try running ipconfig. When I did that, I saw "Media Disconnected" for my LAN adapter. I've tried a few of the possible solutions already with no luck. With the same computer and the same Ethernet cable directly connected to my modem instead of through the router, I *CAN* get online. That's how I'm connected right now. Also, I have no problem accessing any wi-fi networks.
I have searched so many threads concerning the problem I am having but have yet to find anything that works. On Sunday my husband changed our router. We have just moved from Sky to Talk Talk. Before the change, my wireless connection was absolutely fine. Now, everything else in the house is working on wireless fine (xBox, my smartphone, hubby's PC) except for my crappy Lenovo N 500 (XP SP3).Here is a copy/paste from my ipconfig /all:[CODE]

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have 2 laptops, only one of which connects to the Internet. The second, a Dell XPS, no longer connects to the Internet/network. Recently I updated the driver for the wireless adapter, Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230; however I later learned that there is a compatibility issue for 6230 and Windows 8. So, I rolled back the driver for the wireless network adapter, both to an Intel-provided legacy driver and to the Dell-provided driver. However, using either driver, the my computer won't connect. Running ipconfig states the Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi: Media State... Media Disconnected.
Dell Tech support regarded this a sensitive issue, which would require purchasing a new, premium software warranty.
I have a fairly new Inpsiron 14z with windows 8 on it. Everything worked great out of the box, but all of a sudden my wireless stopped working. More specifically, it always says that the wifi is off, and pressing alt+f2 only cycles the bluetooth on and off, not doing anything about the wifi. Took PC #1 home and hooked everything up. (router port light doesn’t illuminate, neither does port on PC)My personal PC that uses the same router has internet access.Hooked #1 back up as a test – could access internet.Hooked up #2 again, did a Run, cmd, ipconfig and got “media disconnected”I brought #2 back in for a PC tech to look at. He hooked it up in his office, had internet access.Took it back home and hooked everything up.The port lights illuminated on startup; but after it got to the desktop, lights are off.Tried ipconfig again, "media disconnected”. IP address doesn’t display.
All the while I have internet access on my own PC, plus when I hook up #1 to the same port using the same cable, I have internet access, which led me to believe it's something wrong with PC #2.Tech is saying it’s a problem with my router (Cisco E2500), which I restarted too.

View 18 Replies View RelatedI am using a laptop in our small office, which has both a wired and a WiFi network (same network via an access point).
Most of the times I am connected to the wired, but never disable the WiFI. When I unplug the cable, in order to move around, I will like to know if it possible to maintain the connection to the network. I normally have a couple of applications that connect to a database open and when I unplug the cable, they crash and I have to re-open them again.

My wired connection speed stayed the same but my wireless speed degraded significantly - roughly from 5-8mbps to 200-300kbps.I measured my wireless speed both on win7 laptop and iPad. My Roku box is also struggling. All devices were in the proximity of the router.I tried changing encryption (WEP/WPA2/no encryption), mode (from b/g/n to b/g to just g), and different channels. Nothing worked, the speed is still very slow.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've enabled the Media Server on my E3000 router. My PS3 can see the server and play media from it by my PCs can't!
I'm using Windows Media Player v 12.0 on Windows 7 and some older version on Windows XP and it's my understanding that the Media Server should appear under the "Other Libraries" section but it does not.
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in the E3000 firmware (I have the latest as of this date) or is the Media Server simply not compatible with Windows Media Player? compatible media player for Windows 7?
I did read a post about a firmware upgrade on the 4200 that broke the media player, but I don't know if such a problem exists for the E3000.

A few days ago my internet suddenly stopped working. I plugged in the ethernet cord and everything worked fine. Checking the properties in the device manager showed the device was working properly, I also tried resetting it to make sure it was enabled but it did not work.
Upon troubleshooting, the "Windows Network Diagnostic" said the problems was that the Wireless adapter was not turned on. Using the switch on the front of the laptop as well as the function keys does nothing. Usually a graphic pops up showing if the WiFi is on or off, changinging transparent to show the WiFi is disabled. Now when I turn the switch on it always appears transparent, effectively going from off to off
So I know the computer reads both the function keys and the switch on the front but both methods never actually turns the adapter on. I just finished a system restore and nothing has changed
Today, while surfing the web my internet connection on my PC just randomly shuts off. I go check on my laptop and its normal. My WiFi says that I am connected to an Unidentified network with no internet access. So i got frustrated and checked all the forums and nothing seemed to work. So i restored my computer to factory settings and I still got this problem. Does this mean my Wifi Card is bad? Is it a virus? I can see other networks fine but i just cant connect to mine!
