Windows 8 - Get Access Ftp Server?
Apr 22, 2013
I am working remotely & unable to access my company's 'ftp server'. The 'box' stated "NO SUCH INTERFACE SUPPORTED'. I have just bought a new Acer laptop & it'll be a complete waste if I can't use for work.

The situation is I have a windows 2008 server with two nics, connected to two routers. The routers are connected together as well. This diagram might explain further:[url]....
Each router effectively defines a completely different network. The server nic connected to the internet facing router is configured with minimal properties (no ip6, no file sharing, no netBIOS over tcp etc), the nic connected to the internal router has mostly default properties. Both nics have static ip addresses. Both networks define a subnet of 255.255.255.0. The nics are not bridged in the server and it is not acting as a router or anything network related.
The problem is I cannot access the server when both nics are enabled. If I disable the nic for the internet facing router, then everything is fine. If I establish a connection to the server such as through remote desktop, then re-enable the nic it still works but I can't ping or make new connections.

I planned for my customer to replace his old LMS 4.0.1 server under Windows 2003 by a new server under Windows 2008 R2.Customer wants also to set a new LMS name and IP address for the new server under Windows 2008 R2 and keep both servers on the network.I'm wondering what could be the best procedure to do that migration. Can I used backup / restore procedure in that case ?If yes, what file must I modify to adapt the new LMS configuration to new hostname and IP Address ?

We've recently installed Windows Server 2003 at our small office for data storage, and have set up shared folders in the Win Server 2K3 for access from about a dozen Win XP Pro machines.Upon the first access of these shared folders from a Win XP Pro machine, we're required to enter a User Name & Password for the Win Server 2K3 machine:Is there a work-around for this? Perhaps some method in WinXP Pro to save the username/password? As it stands now, any time one of the WinXP Pro machines gets rebooted, or if the server gets rebooted, users of the Win XP Pro machines have to re-enter the username/password, and I'd like to find if there's away around having to re-enter that info.

I've got my AnyConnect setup to get an IP from our Windows DHCP server just fine. It grabs the IP, mask, and DNS just fine. But I can't ping any of the lan devices or do any DNS lookups. I need it to work this way since we have a ton of site-to-site's with remote offices and getting them all to adjust their firewalls to allow another subnet is a nightmare.
I have split-tunneling enabled. I'm sure it's a nonat command that I'm missing, but not sure what.
Before connecting to VPN:
Home user-------------------> ASA 5510 --------------> Office Lan
192.168.1.0/24 10.10.1.1/24
After they connect to AnyConnect
Home user-------------------> ASA 5510 --------------> Office Lan
192.168.1.0/24 10.10.1.1/24
10.10.1.45/24

we have two servers in our network, one functions as a file server (windows server 2008) and the other as a domain controller with active directory and some database applications running on it (windows SBS 2003). the file server has folders for the different units in our company, these are shared folders. these folders can be accessed by anyone with a domain login by running \servername from their computers, without any further authentication required.
i have tried to set up sharing restrictions with no success, for example the Accounts folder, i right click on it and select properties, and the sharing or security. under both tabs i added three names of those that i want to have access to the folder. these names appear in the sharing list together with:administrator(servernameadministrator) administrators (servernameadministrators) administrator systemeveryone has not been added as is the case with all other folders. what is this system on the list? how i can restrict access, perhaps there is a setting that i have missed or settings in the network that prevent these restrictions?

I have a WES610N in my office connected to a E4200 @ the cable modem in the family room. ~30'.The connection is fine and works well when working.Connected to the WES610N I have:
-Polycom VOIP phone
-HP Mediasmart Windows Home Server
-Desktop
-Multi-Function Laser Printer
I have two issues.
1) The Polycom does a random reboot that I have traced down to it loosing it's IP
2) The Windows Home Server looses it's IP requireing a hard reset.
I have enabled QOS for the polycom and that just worked with managing data. However both devices seem to loose their IP regularly. The desktop might also be having the issue but because it is Vista I suspect Vista is better equipped to deal with IP issues.

i've been using a VPN to connect to my home network from elsewhere for a few months. It's set up as follows:
PPTP
Maximum Strength Encryption
EAP-MSCHAP-v2 Authentication
Now I find out that MSCHAPv2 authentication has been broken and is no longer considered secure (even by Microsoft), so I want to change the protocol I'm using to make it secure.
However, I've spent 3 hours now researching this and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to use a better protocol on my Windows Server 2012 home server. I've tried setting up PEAP authentication (still PPTP) a la Microsoft's recommendation document, but it requires a certificate. I've created a self-signed certificate but it seems I can't issue certificates (via this method) without being a member of a domain, so I'm stuck. I can't even get started with L2TP since I can't find the option for it.
My question is this: Is there a way to setup a secure VPN server using Windows Server 2012 without a domain? If so, how do I do this?

I've been reading that the Windows Server Backup that is included with Server 08 R2 is pretty good. Is spending $400 on a third party utility worth it?
I'm asking because we're purchasing a new server soon and I want to know if the included backup is going to be good enough. Will be backing up server state as well as data to tape and possibly an off site server (server 2003) if I get my way.

I know the best thing one should do is install an ISA server and an Active Directory Domain Controller on separate servers. But for some reason, I want to configure my Windows Server 2003 as an ISA server as well as an Active Directory Domain Controller. What can happen to my server making it run improperly. For example, my ISA server will function mainly as a Firewall, I wonder if all the rules I create in ISA server determine what I mean it should work or I have to consider any affection from Active Directory DC to those rules?I have to ask this question because I've already installed both ISA and AD DC on my Windows Server 2003, already created an Allow. All rule (just for testing connection) in ISA server but I can't ping from all the clients to my server, all the clients can ping each other and the server itself can ping to all clients. I just think that may be the affection from AD DC to my AllowAll rule in ISA server.
I successfully created some rules that worked greatly as they should work but when I hadn't installed AD DC yet (just installed ISA), however right after installing AD DC, it still worked well (this made me think that AD DC didn't affect to how ISA works). Then I configured a little related to DNS server, and maybe something I don't remember exactly and now I can't ping from my client PC to my server. My network is virtualized using VMware 8 workstation and GNS3, at first there is no need of GNS3 because I just want to test my internal network (some clients connected to the internal interface of ISA server). Depending on VMware that I can't be sure if it is some fault of VMware or any other thing but my configuration on the servers.

My friend and I bought Acer Aspire 5741's about 9 months ago and neither of us has had any problems until now. My friend went to connect to the internet via wireless router yesterday to find that there was limited connectivity (no internet access). We assumed it was a router issue and I gave her a number of things to check but all seemed ok with it. I went to her house to look at it today and when I ran the connection troubleshooter got "windows can't communicate with.......... (DNS server)". I connected my laptop via her router and everything was fine. I brought her laptop back to my house and tried to connect to the internet via my router and got exactly the same 'DNS' message - my laptop again connected without any problem.
I have re-booted the routers, laptops, network adapters etc and also checked the wireless adapter settings on both laptops, which appear to be the same. I have re-set the TCP/IP stack and have also tried ipconfig /release and /renew - none of which seems to have made any difference. The results of ipconfig/all are:-
Windows IP Configuration
Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : Debbie-PC
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
[code]....

Changed workgroup name to same as the rest of the terminals.Changed computer name to same as my previous computer in the network.Previous computer read only chosen username (+ password) when accessing. This new computer reads both computernamechosen username (+ password) when trying to access.
I suspect that username is not approved due to "double-name" ?

I'm having a bit of trouble connecting to the internet on my desktop. Basically, my desktop computer, running windows 7, wired connection via LAN, is having trouble connecting to the internet. It appears to be connected to the internet (all indicators are "green light"), but when I attempt to open a browser, for example, there is no response. After running a diagnosis, I found this: Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (Primary DNS server). The strange thing is that our apartment wireless network works just fine. I looked around on here for a solution, but all were entertaining laptops with wireless connections. My IPs are set to automatic as well.

I am involved in a huge project that requires Servers PCs to function as Routers in schools to prevent broadcast traffic issues (Thread here: Need Professional Advice on 3 MANs implementations - Long story short: Can't buy regular routers because of budget and neet to use current equipment to make the network work, that is, Windows Servers 2008 with 2 NICs.
Now to the point. We are making tests but can't make Static routes to work properly. Design is as follows:
Now we have seen that we need to use this command (in cmd) to add a static route in W2008:
route add [NETWORK DESTINATION] mask [SUBNETMASK] [GATEWAY] if [NIC]
Q1: What exact command(s) do we have to use to make the Laptop in 10.10.10.0 to access Internet? How would you fill those fields based on the diagram?
Q2: How many Static routes do we need to declare? I am guessing we just need one, but I have been told that I need to activate two (one for packets sent by the laptop to the router, and one for the packets sent by the router to the laptop?)
We have tried several combinations and can't make laptop to access Internet, not even to ping 192.168.1.5. We have just accomplished pinging to 192.168.1.181 from the Laptop, and to ping 10.10.10.2 from the Server but that's as far as we went.

I am using a old notebook (2 years old) with windows server 2008 on it. I needed to remove al the drivers, because windows server 2008 isn't using the drivers of windows xp, and it wanted a clean installation.
Now the question and problem, is it possible to let my server wireless connect to my home network?
I am using for a server my old notebook:
Acer Aspire 5738ZG
2GB RAM, Intel Pentium dual-core processor T4200
Nvidia GeForce G105M 512MB (doesn't matter)
Atheros AR5B91 Wireless Network Adapter
I already installed the driver for the Wireless network adapter. Windows can't find any networks, when i try to connect.
