View 7 RepliesI have a spare PC, monitor, mouse, keyboard etc I said he can use that instead as I don't really need it now I have my Windows 7 machine. So I formatted XP on my spare machine to start afresh, purchased a cable to run from the router to the spare pc (which is connected to the modem) and the other cable runs from the router to my PC, hence I can type this. Since I can get online it isn't an ISP/router/modem issue, so that's clear. When I installed XP on my now spare PC I did have to fiddle to get the internet working? The PC motherboard is an HP Compaq d230 MT, and the steps I have taken is:From this website [URL]
1. Installed Chipset driver
2. Installed Broadcam Network driver
3. Installed Gigabit Network driver
4. Installed 56k win driver (wasn't sure if it's needed though)
5. re-started PC
It still doesn't work, and under device manager, the Ethernet Controller has a yellow question mark. Opening it up, it says there is no driver installed and says (code 28)
I cannot get my computer to connect to the internet including, but not limited to system restoring to an earlier restore point prior to developing the problem. Doing a system recovery which basically reset everything to manufacturers (except the internet connection). Following several sets of directions which seemed like they might apply to me including manually entering the ip info into my LAN.The latest attempt was to try to "reset my winsock catalogue" with: netsh int ip reset catalog command in cmd. This resulted in a list of errors stating that the commands had to be Run as an administrator. As I am logged in as administrator on the computer, I'm not sure how to rectify this latest little bit of folly.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am running an HP pavilion slimline s5610y with Windows 7 installed. It is connecte to a Netgear wireless router via an Ethernet port. I do get wireless to my laptop which I am using to report this issue. In network connections it does recognize my network, but when trying to connect to the internet tries to dial up a connection. I have downloaded and reinstalled the network adapter drivers for the modem (realtek pcie fe family controller) with no luck.I have restored the computer to prior windows updates and have not had any luck.I see that you like to have a hijackthis log. I did download the software from the laptop and try to install via a usb drive, but it stated that an internet connection was required.

View 14 Replies View RelatedInternet was working fine this morning, then stopped just now.I have a Windows 7 computers connected via Wifi to my BT Homehub.Wireless icon in system tray has a yellow exclamation mark on it and cannot connect to the internet on any browser.Have tried a window restore to a couple of days back and have restarted numerous times, nothing has worked.
View 8 Replies View RelatedBasically my desktop computer no longer connects to the internet, and I'll try to describe the problem to you all to the best of my ability.I ran ipconfig /all and it is attached. The problem first started a few weeks back and I haven't been able to get around to it due to school. When trying to connect to my router it will connect with limited connectivity (in other words, at the bottom right of the screen when you check the SSID you're connected to, it will show the signal strength, but it also has a yellow exclamation mark indicating it has no connectivity. When I ran the built-in troubleshooter on it, I received multiple things:
- sometimes: "windows could not automatically detect this network proxy settings"
- sometimes: "no errors detected"
Of course I would've done a system restore long ago, however initially I thought the problem was the adapter so I kept re-installing the drivers, I even went to buy other network adapters to make sure my adapter wasn't the one that was defective (I have an ASUS adapter, the other adapters I've tried were D-Link, and Netgear which is also the brand of my router which is very old). Because of all these installs/uninstalls, the old system restores I had were gone. I have Windows 7 64 bit, I'm using wireless connectivity and cannot try ethernet cable due to the immobility of my desktop and problems it would generate around the house. I've attempted to change the IP address of my network properties of ivp4 to defaults, change the DNS server, check my DHCP, check my services, check my registry, and many other things found on the internet (including resetting with netsh)
My HP laptop with windows XP OS will not connect to the internet as long as the local network connection is connected, this trend just started recently, the local network is connected to two Toshiba Cash registers for Polling/ price changes.
View 19 Replies View RelatedEarlier today I re installed windows XP. Before reinstall my net was working fine. And now it won't connect.I tried to use the installation disc that came with the modem, and partway through the install/set up it says that it cannot find my Gateway.
ipconfig shows " windows up configuration"
And when search the dev managers, network addapters is not in the list.
So my Dad got a new Windows 7 computer, and gave me his old windows vista. When we got his computer all hooked up, and hooked up the windows Vista next to it. My mom wanted to use it to check her email. she didnt download anything, but after she turned it off, and i turned it back on, the computer would not detect any type of internet activity. i put in a new ethernet card, and it still would not work. The sound on the computer has also stopped working. i checked windows audio service, and it says its running, and there is no detected problem with any of the hardware.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI thought that all my problems would be solved when I recently bought the Belkin Play router with dd-wrt 24 sp2 (build 18050M) firmware. It was only a partial success.
My situation is the following: a neighbor on the other side of the street has wifi, which he is willing to share. But it barely reaches my house. So I thought I would solve the problem by installing my Belkin Play as a repeater bridge, so I could connect my PC to it by cable while also connecting my mobile devices.

For some inexplicable reason my router connected for a while but then, seemingly for no reason, disconnected. I wanted to figure out why that was and tried setting my PC's IP address to 192.168.1.5. This way I was able to connect to my router but still unable to connect to the internet. Interestingly enough, when I take my laptop close to the window, I can connect to the original network with internet access.
For the past month or two I have been having some problems connecting to the internet on my computer of 6 years everything works fine its running windows 7 and I have no problems but now every time I turn my computer on the first application to connect to the internet is the only one that can connect. If I open a browser it connects but nothing else will and if I close it I have to restart in order to get a connection again.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought an ASUS P8Z77-V motherboard, an i5 3570K and a Corsair Vengeance 4GB card a month ago. I built it with a Radeon HD 5670 graphic card, CoolerMaster 500W, a Sony lightscribe DVDRW unit and an old HD 500GB. The PSUs fan stopped working 3 weeks ago and I didnt notice this. While playing games the computer shut down, and I quickly opened the case. The PSU was hot and I could smell burned plastic. A week after I randomly tried to start the computer and guess what!? IT WORKS! Then I realised that only the fan was broken. I took the PSU and fan appart and lubricated the fan. It spins like a charm but I think I lost a piece of it and now its loud as hell but it works. I thougt this story might have something to do with the issue.
THE ISSUE: My internet has been working like a charm untill a week ago. A week ago the LAN or wired connection stopped working. I had to disable LAN adapter in BIOS else it would try to connect forever and I couldnt disable it in Windows. I didnt bother to solve it since my motherboard has a Wireless adaptor, so I just connected wirelessly. Today the wireless stopped working. I figured out that I might have goten a virus? I formated the disk and reinstalled WIN7 x64. I install the drivers, and the wireless and LAN still dont work. I reinstall WIN7 once again. Still nothing. I remember that I have to set the IP adress myself. So I go to Wireless adptor - preferences - IPV4 - type the stuff in, and when trying to close the window it freezes. After closing it in task manager a message "An unexpected error has occured" appears. I have to close Explorer.exe too and then after 2 attempts I get to close the window and save normally, but still no connection.
im using windows 7, i dont know what happen but suddenly i cant access internet it says no internet access, this is happening few times but when i check other computer using same internet connecting its connected no problem with other computers.

So today I went to my grandparents house, so I could reformat their computer that had crashed due to a virus. Their computer is a Dell Dimension 2400. I was able to download the video and audio drivers from the disk Dell gave them onto their computer, but cannot connect to the internet. I went into the network connections, nothing was there. Then i went into devices and saw the yellow exclamation mark by the ethernet device.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis morning, I tried using the computer and I wasn't able to connect to the Internet. The wireless icon on the bottom had either 1 bar, a caution sign with an exclamation point, or some sun icon. Either way, I could not get to my websites. I don't know why my computer cannot connect to the Internet because my iPad can connect perfectly well as I'm on it right now posting this thread. This is the first time it has happened. A few weeks ago my Internet started getting slower and slower. When it was usually an average of 3 bars, it went down to 2 and stayed that way. I was still able to get to my websites back then however the change in speed was noticeable. Now, it is neither 2 bars nor 3 but 0. y computer because my desktop is upstairs whereas my router is downstairs. With all the cables and such I would just end up messing it up or something. What could I do to fix this problem, it's been like this all day. Is it possible a virus is causing this problem?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop PC hooked up to an ethernet cable. I was surfing the web one day when the internet cut out and I haven't been able to get it back since. This was in Windows 7. I have two hard drives. The first has Windows 7 on it, and the second has Windows XP on it. When I load up the Windows XP drive, the internet works great. But, when I start the 7 drive, there's no possible way to connect to the internet. I don't understand it. I have the ethernet cable [that is usually in the PC] plugged into my laptop (running WINDOWS 7 of all things). I'm typing this from the laptop, and the internet works perfectly on it. I don't know what to do about this. I'll provide any more info needed.

I took the router out of the mix, and now only the linux laptops can connect to the internet via ethernet cable. comcast support is useless.any ideas what could be happening here? Only 1 of the linux and 2 of the windows laptops were connected at the time this occurred.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Samsung RV510 laptop computer running Windows 7 that is about 6 months old. It has worked well until the last couple of days. Despite the fact that it shows an active wireless internet connection, I cannot get web pages to open. I have tried both IE and Firefox with no luck. I have tried many different websites including microsoft, msn, google and yahoo and none have connected. Other devices connected to the same wireless network include a laptop running XP, a MacBook pro, an iPhone, an iPad, and several android smart phones and all have been functioning without issue. An XP desktop is also connected to the router with an ethernet cable with no issues. This laptop is the only device running Windows 7.
When I run the windows network diagnostics tool I get the message "Problem found The remote device or resource won't accept the connection". I have tried most of the recommended actions associated with the linkI have successfully pinged www.google.com and www.yahoo.com. I have also tried several other things that i found while doing research on this problem with no success.[CODE]
I just re-installed Windows XP Professional on my Dell XPS Gen 4. Everything works fine on it but the internet. I can open IE, but it just says "This page cannot be displayed" and on and on.Since I re-installed it I believe their are not many drivers on it, I don't really know, and I think that might be it but I am not sure. And I am not sure which drivers I need if it is missing drivers.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe problem I was having was my laptop wouldn't connect to my new router provided by them, it would say it was connected but 'Local Only'. Turned out in the end all I needed to do was update my Atheros and Realtek drivers. Months down the line, now having the same symptoms, I decide to update my drivers only to find out there are no updates available and my drivers are up to date and working. The only other thing that may be the root to the this problem is the fact last night I connected to my girlfriends router at her house with this same laptop. Now I come back to my router this evening and I'm having these symptoms I had months ago. It's also saying the network is 'Undentified' eventhough it SAYS it's connected. It doesnt allow me to access the internet at all. I removed the history of my girlfriends connection on manage wireless networks, including my own.
