Windows 7 - Dell M4500 Does Not Connect To Internet
Aug 15, 2012I have a Dell M4500 that does not connect to the internet. I have called Dell and they have replaced the motherboard but it does not work. They told me that it is a software problem. It suddenly stopped working, both the cable and wireless card.
The SIM card work and I can connect to internet with that. The LAN card is active but the computer symbol in the right bottom corner is having the read cross over it. When I try ipconfig the only card that is listed is the SIM and bluetooth. There must be another solutiuon to this than reinstalling.
How can I fix this without reinstalling Win 7? It is like the PC does not recognize the cards anymore...

Jan 9, 2009Recently had to reinstall windows vista on my inspiron 1501. All is okay now except I cannot connect to the internet. Technically I am connected to the wireless network but I cant get on the web. Im going around in circles following error msgs but they all seem to point to an issue with DNS. Ive run cmd to save time.

Dell :: Can Only Connect XPS 13 (Windows 8) To Home Wi-Fi Connection
Mar 28, 2013I have an XPS 13 - owned by me, not my employer - and it connects just fine to my home router. However, I cannot connect it anywhere else. It will see networks, I'll enter the security key, and it will tell me it cannot connect. This has happened at my office, at coffee shops, and at friends houses. So I try all the suggested troubleshooting steps and end up in some infinite loop of complete unhelpfulness. I am not a developer, hacker. or other IT professional so I have no idea what half the stuff they are telling me to do even means and most of the stuff (resetting routers etc) is not something I have the capability of doing anyway. My other computers (an ancient Toshiba running XP and a Dell Latitude running windows 7) connect with no issues. Jul 20, 2012I know the wifi in the laptop works, i know the laptop has no issues.I know this because i switched my hard drive from my 1330 to this laptop which is also a 1330...connects and works fine.Wifi IS turned on In device manager the driver is ok no exclamation marks anywhere When i try and connect with the ethernet i get identifying no network access, then it says currently connected to unidentified network, no network access! You cannot browse.So that being said it must be in the setting with windows 7.I uninstalled and reinstalled the wifi driver it did not make any difference.I also tried using a Ethernet connection and it would not connect either.When i use the win 7 trubleshooter it states a network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken.Remember this laptop functions fine with my hard drive in it with windows xp.

My home network is now open and unencrypted (running G), but it still wont connect. However, I installed a USB wireless adapter, and I can connect without issue. So I dont think its a firewall, etc. I think its something with the built in adapter...
After checking out the device manager, it looks like the laptops using a "DW1501 WLAN Half-Mini Card". I went to the downloads page through dell.com to update my drivers, but Im still having issues.Im running Windows 7 64 bit.

Jan 23, 2013I am on my second 3520 Laptop (first one purchsed in November 2012, returned last week) and the same problem is happening. This is that after every Windows Update I am unable to connect to the Internet. Wi-Fi checks out and used by other PC's in the house, I thought I'd cured it recently by being able to go in and sign into Mcafee (22/1) then an update on 23/1 and BAM! No Internet, no way can I get into McAfee to sign in, and the only options are restore to 21/1 (did that still no joy) or back to Factory (23/12/12) and re-install Office 2010 AGAIN! I have spent over £10 in calling the Dell Premium line, I have emailed the Support Director who arranged the laptop swap and still have this problem. I have posted it on Windows 8 forums, other forums I can find, Googled 'No Internet after Windows8 updates' 'till the cows come home, have gone back to Factory about 10 times over the 2 machines, tried to create Restore points myself but they disappear after the updates, all very frustrating. I 'could' get a refund but this is the 6th Dell machine we've had and I like the support. This machine, like 2 others (1 on Vista about to be upgraded to Win7 the other just upgraded) this new one will be used in a church based Debt Advice charity so eventually will be in a cupboard and used every Wednesday by an admin volunteer. It will be a terrible pain to have this trouble as she's not that young nor a PC expert so I need a seamless, invisible solution that will work without a hitch like all updates in XP, Vista and Win7.

Unable To Access Internet With Dell 560 Running Windows 7
Nov 9, 2012I am now unable to access the internet with my Dell 560 running windows7. I have Verizon Fios for internet access. Windows network diagnostics reports that the connection between my access point,router or cable modem and the internet is broken and the network gateway is accessible but windows could not receive network traffic from the internet. Verizon's in-house -agent reports that there seems a connection problem between my router and the wall jack. I am able to access the internet with another computer and the the same router. I also have no problems with my iPad. I have interchanged cables and ports on the router.

Nov 3, 2012Have had my XPS One 27 for a few days and the 1703 wireless card has cut my download speeds more than half. Whereas I was getting anywhere from 75 to 80 Mbps on my previous machine with a b/g/n/ wireless card, I am now only able to get 25 to 30 Mbps on this new machine. Nothing has changed on my router, I just plugged in the XPS One 27 and it automatically found the router and I logged in without a problem. The router is the WNDR 3700. I am on a 105Mbps tier and need my download speed restored to what I used to get. Is there a "tweak" or is there a better wi-fi card I can install?

May 29, 2012I also am using a Dell Inspiron N5010 with Windows 7 and have trouble connecting to Netgear WNR 1000. I have an Apple that has no trouble making that connection. I have spent over $100 to a local computer repair company trying unsuccessfully trying to fix the problem and $129 to Dell Technical Services with equal lack of success and then was told by a technical support person that they had fixed it, that they would not provide futher work to fix it. The fact is that the error occurred again immediately the moment the Dell technician hung up. I spent the following day just running internet on a cable connection for about 8 hoooting.ble shurs trouble free and then switched it to wireless, which failed in about 10 minutes as my own troubleshooting. This made it clear to me that the problem was only in the wireless connection.
They problem is the Blue Screen error time message that pops up at random times any time the computer is operating on wireless. At other timerred again immediatelyre occuthe failuat s it operates normally. The Blue screen error causes the computer to shut down and restart. The only solution I have found is to return the Netgear router to the store where I bought it (within 30 days of purchase) and pay the additional cost of a different router.
Service personell should at least be kept aware or incompatibilites, explained or unexplained, between particular router models and particular computer models so as to save this waste of time and money. I have lost about 3 weeks of useful time on this computer in addition to over $200 in direct costs attempting to find a fix.

Nov 2, 2012I have a Vostro 3300, which was working very well, and when I upgraded my OS from Win7 to Win8 my internet speed through wireless connection became very low, I checked for a driver update but did not find any that is compatible with windows 8. I also tried some old Windows 7 drivers with and without "compatibility Mode" but still not working. I should also mention that when I connect to the internet through Ethernet, I get the full speed.

The computer worked fine for about a year I had no problems accessing the Internet at all. Then it crashed and I had to reinstall Windows XP. After reinstalling Windows XP it will not connect to the Internet at all. Even with the ethernet cord directly to the modem. Since it will not connect to the internet I can not do a diagonostics to see what driver it needs. I have tried downloading a few onto my other laptop and then use flash drive to install it on the Dell but have not had any luck with finding the correct driver. I am not that computer savvy and do not know what type of wireless card I even have.

Nov 3, 2011I have a dell studio 1557 running windows 7. I live in my own apartment with roommates in college, and i've been having some very bad issues with slow internet or constant down time. Here are some key points:
- I have Charter internet.
- My 2 other roommates have NO ISSUES.
- My laptop works in my family's house. They have Comcast. I went on vacation a week ago and there were no issues on the hotel internet. No issues from the school's internet.
- I have been using my android phone as a tether because the internet is more stable. It's slow, but consistent for the most part. This is extra frustrating because I shouldnt have slow internet. And I sure as hell shouldnt be paying for internet I can't even enjoy.
- Charter has replaced 2 routers. Both are brand new. They are net gear. Charter is clueless to my problem.
- I have reinstalled windows. Dell told me to try safe mode. I noticed NO ISSUES WITH STANDARD BROWSING IN SAFE MODE. This leads me to believe it is a software issue.
- The connection is non-existent when coming out of hibernation or rebooting. In the morning, i have to boot up, make my coffee, and only then will it give me access to the internet. Otherwise, page timeouts. It can take up to 10 minutes for the internet to work.
- Youtube and general multitasking is very bad. Slower connection than ever, page timeouts, and I often need to wait for a video/music to buffer before I begin enjoying it.
My laptop has been this way for upwards of 6 months.

Jan 23, 2012I reformatted my HDD (needed to do that anyway) and re-installed Windows 7 and all drivers (Chipset 1st) from my Dell CD after messing up a recovery test.
Everything seemed fine. But now, when I am surfing the Internet, I sometimes lose the connection. The icon in the Taskbar has a yellow exclamation point. (This does not happen in Slackware on the same machine, just in Windows 7.)
The first time this happened, I couldn't ping my router, so I checked all cables, cable modem, and router. But they were all fine and my other (really old desktop running Puppy Linux) was still connected fine and could surf to new web pages.
I did "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew" on the Dell in Windows 7 and the NIC got the correct IP address and gateway. Now I could ping the router, but I could not ping the Internet, which didn't make any sense, since the other computer was accessing the Internet just fine on the same router! (No IP address confilict exists, and gateway was correct on both machines.) I tried updating the driver, but no new drivers were found. This first time, the issue was resolved by rebooting Windows 7. I also unchecked the setting to turn off the NIC to save power. (I just checked the USB hubs per another post, and it's also unchecked.)
The second time this happened, "ipconfig /renew" failed! I set everything manually (including DNS servers), and on reboot, it still wasn't working. I did a complete shutdown of the computer and startup, now it works again.
So here I am looking for a new driver (64-bit, signed). Not only is there not a new driver...they don't even list the current driver! The only one listed is from March 2010, my driver is June 2011. Current driver is version 7.46.610.2011. Where is there a newer Realtek driver? And why are this things so buggy more than a year after 7 came out, especially if these are supposedly signed by Microsoft?

Oct 15, 2012Recently, I re-installed windows XP on a newly formatted hard drive. I tried to use the network setup wizard to create an internet connection via a cable plugged into back of pc but the wizard says that it can not detect network hardware. I believe the network card is built into the Motherboard. I tried to isntall drivers from the Dell Cd that came with the system but it fails to detect a modem. My system is a Dell dimension 5150?

Do I need a software firewall? Or is the router sufficient? Is antivirus software necessary if I don't download anything? It will be part of a local LAN, so I don't want to jeopardize any of the other PCs on the home network.
NOTE: I'm looking to run some older (non-DOS) computer games that don't run well (or at all) on XP and newer systems.
NOTE 2: When I say 'secure', I'm not looking to actively browse the web on the machine. I was curious as to what risks I be facing if I simply had this PC connected to my local network (and thus the internet).

Aug 22, 2012My wireless adapter that came inside the computer can connect to a network, but i do not have internet access. i had to go out and buy a external wireless adapter.
The external adapter was working fine for about three weeks, until i logged in one day and it said the same thing as internal adapter. "connected to the internet. no internet access"
Ive did research and tried some of the fixes on the web. But nothing worked. So i finally tried a system restore and it worked.
The next day when i logged on, i had the same problem again and the only thing that fixed it was another system restore. i didnt download or make any changes in between the two system restores.

Sep 2, 2012I have a dell inspiron 15 r and it won't connect to the internet. I've tried my university's wireless internet, and my internet at home. Both connections work for other devices, so the problem is not the source. The problem is specifically my laptop. It says that it is connected, but both Chrome and IE show error pages (i.e. Site not found, dns lookup failed, etc.)
