Linksys WRT54G - Using Router As A Bridge

Aug 2, 2011

I have a bluray player that I want to get internet to that is downstairs. I would like to use my old Linksys WRT54g ver 2 router to do this. I just put DD-WRT firmware on it. I have a Linksys E1000 as my primary router. All I want to do is be able to to put the Secondary router (WRT54G) downstairs near the bluray player and run an ethernet cable from the lan port on the router to the ethernet port on the bluray player to get internet access. What is the best way to do this? Client bridge or Client mode?

Linksys Wireless Router :: How To Use EA4500 As A Bridge

May 15, 2013

In my apartment, I can receive the wireless signal of free scholl wireless, which is accessable without user name and password. Although the signal is not good, but we used to use a router EA3000 to relay the signal. Now my roommate is leaving with this this router. So I bought EA4500 and try to do the similar job. However, I find that the configurations on 192.168.1.1 are different between EA3000 and EA4500. Many options cannot be found in the EA4500 page, such as the wireless client.

Set A Static IP On Linksys Router With Netopia Modem In Bridge

Aug 3, 2011

I currently have service with AT&T DSL. I have their Motorola Netopia 3347 modem that is set to Bridged mode and going to a Linksys WRT54GL router, which then goes out to a Cisco 24 port switch.AT&T has given us a Static IP to use, which was set up and working just fine when the modem was NOT in Bridged mode. Now that I have it set to bridge mode (as per a request by our VoIP provider), our IP address is no longer static at WhatismyIP.com...instead it changes frequently. However, I have a back up server here that needs to have a static IP so offsite back ups can find our modem/router and then the back up server.I am running Tomato software on the Linksys admin. When I go to the Basic->Network section, the WAN/Internet is set to PPPoE with the AT&T username and password that was originally used in the Netopia modem entered in. If I set this option to Static, it removes the username/password fields, so I do not think that my internet would work that way. Or, would the Netopia use the username/password to authenticate, and then just pass it through to the Linksys in bridge mode and THEN it would use the static IP? what I need to do to make the Linksys grab our Static IP instead of changing? Neither AT&T or the VoIP company can figure it out...

Linksys Wireless Router :: Using E4200 In Bridge Mode?

May 1, 2012

I have a E4200 with 1.0.04 firmware that I've used for a while as a router in front of a cable modem. I have upgraded the modem to a Virgin Media SuperHub. I have connected my E4200's WAN port to one of the SuperHub's LAN ports and changed the E4200's mode to Bridged Mode.I can connect to the Internet wirelessly and wired on the SuperHub, but I can only connect to the Internet via the E4200 if I'm wired to it. The wireless will connect to the E4200, it gets allocated and IP address in the correct range and the gateway is shown as the SuperHub's IP address, and I can see the E4200's management website via wireless, but I cannot connect to anything beyond the E4200.

Linksys Wireless Router :: How To Setup WRT320N As Bridge

Aug 16, 2011

I want to setup the following:

Internet through DSL-Thompson TG 789 VN router ---> several yards --> Linksys WRT320N --> wired computer netwerk                                           |             |with   printer
|                                                                                             |
---> Wireless Netwerk -->   laptops / phones       <---     (WAN depending on strongest signal)
|
---> several servers

The Thompson does the DHCP and routing. It is the gateway through the internet, IP 192.168.2.254 (mask 255.255.255.0).I can't replace the thompson since it is delivered by my provider. SSID = BertB I want to achieve that all the compuers / laptops / phone and printer are in one network and can communicate with each other So the only possibility, as far as I can see, is to set up the Linksys as a bridge.

I have to do the following at the Linksys but have some questions as mentioned below:

SSID = BertB (the same)
channel = different from the channel used by Thompson
DHCP = off
IP = fixed (192.168.2.253)
gateway = 192.168.2.254

[code]....

how the thompson and the Linksys will build a connection with each other, or will this happen automatically through the above setup?Do I have to put the mac address of the thompson in the Linksys and/or vice versa?

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G What Is An Ethernet Bridge

Jul 2, 2011

These questions are only in relation to the above Wireless Router (v6, FW-v1.02 [2010]) :

1. What is an Ethernet Bridge (the basic authoritative definition), and besides gaming, what are they generally used for in a business setting?

2. What are VPN settings in a Router used for, and can a VPN be configured on a remote PC without them?

3.  Utilizing bridging, etc., can I utilize my WRT54G as a makeshift Range Expander as long as the primary router doesnt have WEP key requirements?  The current WIFI doesnt reach my PC, so I thought I could configure my router midway in hopes of extending the other routers' signal, via some kind of bridging if necessary.  Naturally, there would only be a wireless connection between routers.

4.  How can I setup a simple Captive Portal on this router?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Using EA3500 In Bridge Mode?

Feb 16, 2013

I bought the EA3500 nine months ago mainly for the USB port (for a NAS). I recently replaced Comcast Cable with Verizon FIOS. So I now have the FIOS router as my main router (its' IP address is 192.168.1.1). I put the EA3500 in bridge mode to extend the (wired) network. I could get: After going in to bridge mode (with DHCP), I can not log in to the EA3500 (IP address 192.168.1.5 assigned by the FIOS router). I connect my computer directly to one of  the EA3500 numbered ports (after various combinations of rebooting EA3500 and rebooting PC). It just continues to say "waiting" and never logs in. Tried choosing a static route (tried both 192.168.1.43 and 192.168.1.5 with 255.255.255.0, gateway and DNS1 = 192.168.1.1) with no luck.Since I can't log in, I cannot set up my NAS on the USB port of the EA3500 (so I haven't gotten far enough to determine if the USB port will even work in bridge mode).Thought about ensuring the latest firmware but since I can't log in I can't do that. (And after a hard reset EA3500 IP address is 192.168.1.1 which creates conflict with FIOS)

Linksys Wireless Router :: Use E2000 As Wifi Bridge?

I searched the forum, but I did not find anything about the E2000 in bridge mode.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Possible To Put It Into Bridge Mode

Sep 26, 2011

As I understand, the latest FW for the E4200 makes it possible to put he router into bridge mode. In this mode, I can use it as an access point. In bridge mode, should I then connect my router to the WAN port at the E4200?The other way to make the E4200 into an AP, is to disable DHCP and NAT and give the E4200 an IP address out of range for the DHCP range in my preferred router.

Choosing between this two option to make the E4200 into an AP, which is considered to be the best solution?And to be sure; using this option, then the Ethernet cable should be connected to the LAN port of the E4200? is the performance of an E4200 in AP mode the same as a dedicated AP like the WAP610N?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 In Bridge Mode

Aug 20, 2011

Just bought 2 e4200's!  I have the first one connected to the ATT router, and I have the second one connected to the first in Bridge Mode.  It works great! It knew how to configure itself to be the down-level client.

However, I noticed that the port speed is only 100 Mbps on the port that is acting as the link for the bridge.  I am running brand-new CAT5e thru the house, and if I connect the cable directly to my laptop - I get 1Gbps. So I know that the cable is good.

Is there a way to change the speed of the INET port on the down-level e4200?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E1200 Bridge And Have Wi-Fi DHCP?

Oct 25, 2012

At my work we have Comcast Business Class, and our LAN uses the Comcast's SMC static 10'net addressing.  Our two POS computers are connected to wall ports that connect to the SMC router (unsure its model number, it's screwed to the wall).  There is only 1 LAN port for each POS computer, I am trying to setup a 3rd computer up by the POS stations for dedicated web searching of products, emails between HQ and the other stores.

Like I said our LAN is using the 10'net addressing, and only a single port I can use.  I would like to use the E1200 as a bridge/switch to connect: POS computer, network label printer. and network printer/copier/scanner/FAX .. and also have wifi available.  The POS & printers need to have their static 10'net IPs .. but I want the wifi to use DHCP from the E1200.

Linksys Wireless Router :: To Know If Bridge Mode Set Up UTA200

Dec 26, 2008

I have just purchased t-mobile's at home phone service (voip) and they gave me a UTA200-TM Hiport Adaptor to connect for the service.  Had Vonage (voip) for 2 years so know how it works and never had problems.  This one however will only allow the phone line to stay on for about 30 seconds and then drop it.  Have it connected to a modem (cable internet) and a WRT54GS Wireless Router.  T-Mobile wants me to check to see if the router has bridge mode set up as they think that may be causing the phone line to drop out.  How can I check that?  I can not figure out the directions on the linksys site, too confusing.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Works In Bridge Mode Only

Nov 5, 2012

Restarting the e4200 did not work.  Resetting using the switch at the back did not resolve the issue.  I was able to reset it via the 192.168.1.1 web page.  After restoring my settings from backup, the issue remained the same.  This was not alleviated after I updated the firmware.  Plugging into one of the ports with a cat5 cable with my Mac, I was able to get an IP, yet I was not able to surf; same case with my MacBook.

Doing the 30-30-30 reboot did not fix this issue and all the while the front white light on the router went and stayed, solid.To see if I could get this to do ANY sort of meaningful internetting (is that even a word?) I put the e4200 in bridge mode and when I put the cable modem in, and all that plugs into this router works.  This, of course, means that there is:

1. No Wifi signal and

2. It will not reset to factory settings.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA2700 - Configuring FiOS As Bridge?

Sep 11, 2012

I recently bought an EA2700 in hopes that it will make my connection faster, stronger signal and stable. However, this is not the case. The connections keeps dropping and the range is the same as my Verizon-FiOS router. Anyway, I'm hoping that a fix be distributed to address this issue. I can't return my router to the vendor anymore.

Now, since I have two routers, I want to be able to leverage EA2700's dual-band feature and the Guest-access feature but I can't make this as a main router since my FiOS router should still be able to supply IP addresses to my cable boxes, thus, I can't configure it as a Bridge. I'm thinking if I just split the IP distribution as follows:

FiOS router: 192.168.1.2-110
EA2700: 192.168.1.111-150

Is it possible to enable the Guest network on each unit, to create a 'Guest Wifi' mesh (providing that I allow the 192.168.33.0 network to route across my network fabric), or will this not work because each indivudual AP will be assigning IP address 192.168.33.1 as it's gateway address meaning that I would have four distinct MAC addresses within the network, each trying to claim that they are IP 192.168.33.1?

Linksys Wireless Router :: How To Install Wet54g Wifi Bridge

Oct 24, 2008

I am trying to install a wireless bridge on my network. It is a Linksys WET54G v3 wireless bridge. I follow the instructions to configure the bridge: attach the antenna, plug the Ethernet cable into the bridge, plug the other end of the cable into the RJ-45 port of the hub (a Linksys WRT300N router), plug the power supply, insert the setup disk, and run the setup program. After following the steps, it came back and said it could not find a wireless bridge on my network.  I tried just plugging the wireless bridge directly into the PC (as it was one of the alternatives in the instruction) Ethernet port. I got the same message. The set up on my wireless router is as follows, DSL modem connects into wireless router, and wireless router connects to PC Ethernet port. I am thinking, connecting the wireless bridge to one of the ports on the wireless router wouldn’t necessary allow the PC to know it is there, would it? Could it be that I don’t have a network? Does a wireless router form a hub?
