Cisco :: AP 1042 - DHCP Server Feature Supported To Work With Default BVI And Native VLAN
Jun 2, 2012
I was searching a lot , but I couldn't find any good example, how to configure DHCP server for our wireless clients on Cisco Autonomous AP. I'm looking for example how to configure Dot 11 radios and BVI interfaces.
I have no problem to configure DHCP server on BVI 1 and VLAN 1 ( native VLAN ) interfaces, but there is a problem with other BVI's and VLANs. Maybe this feature isn't supported? Maybe DHCP server feature is supported to work just with default BVI and native VLAN?

So just recently my Internet has been running a lot slower than normal at different times of the day (completely random, could be fine for hours then just turns slow). I know it's not the Internet itself, since it's only happening on my computer, and none others in the house - and I'm far from capped. I've run AVG, Spybot & Malwarebytes' scans and have found no infections of any kind. I've run TCP Optimizer and used the "reset to windows default settings" feature, which also hasn't worked one bit. I've tried different Ethernet cables and different plugs in the modem and no improvement.

I got a new 1042 AP and connected it to the network. I have a 2504 contrller with 6 AP's already on it. I thought I could just plu in the new AP and it would show up in the AP group. Instead it shows up as a rouge AP. How do i get the new AP to show up in the default group?

so i am asking to try this feature on ASR 1000 series and work with it as I test this feature on other routers and it work just fine.

My network topology is as follows:
Internet <-> Residential Gateway (RG) from ISP (OEM: Pace) [192.168.1.254/255.255.255.0] <-> RV180 [192.168.1.253/255.255.255.0] <-> SG500 switch [192.168.1.250/255.255.255.0] <-> rest of network.
I know this is a cascading LAN-to-LAN arrangement. The cable from the RG to the RV180 is from a LAN port on the RG to a LAN (not WAN) port on the RV180.
I eventually want to segment my network into a few VLANs from the RV180 down. I am aware most people would recommend DHCP on the "primary" router, but the RG is non-VLAN aware, so I figure I need to handle the DHCP off the RV180. At the same time, I have also opted not to do a LAN-to-WAN cascade because I want to retain the ability to configure the RG from the rest of the network and not have to cart a computer over to the RG to do it.
On the RG, I've disabled DHCP, and placed 192.168.1.253 in the DMZ.
On the RV180, I've enabled DHCP and put it in Router mode.
The issue is that I do not have any Internet connectivity. If I allow the computers in the network to receive IP addresses over DHCP, the default gateway that is communicated is 192.168.1.253, which is the RV180. If I configure static IPv4 information on my computers to point to 192.168.1.254, I am able to connect outside, as you would expect.
How can I get the RV180 to pass out DHCP IP addresses, but point to 192.168.1.254 as the default gateway? I thought the solution might be to create a default route (or something). I went to the static routes tab but it wouldn't let me enter 0.0.0.0 as a destination IP to route through 192.168.1.254.
Further down the line, is it possible for both the RG and the RV180 to connect directly to the SG500, along with the other nodes in my network? That way the RV180 only serves to maintain the VLANs and pass out IP addresses via DHCP, instead of having it be the choke through which everything goes through on the way out?

I have a Windows 7 64 bit computer that is connected to the internet through an ethernet cable to a 2-wire modem. Other computers at my home are connected wirelessly but I am not. I do have a NetGear print server and connect wirelessly with it to a printer. I am suddenly getting the notification "Native WiFi Default Profile Connected" even though I have been running the computer for a year without ever seeing this.
Is the wireless USB connection over-riding my ethernet connection? and is it possible to revert to having the ethernet connection be dominant? I prefer the ethernet connection for speed.

I have a RV042 router. The problem that I am having with it is that the DHCP is giving out the wrong Default Gateway and DNS Server. There is no option to change the DHCP server IP on any of the settings pages on the router. I am begining to think that there might not be a way to do it. I see that there is an option for the DNS under the DHCP page but the Public IP that is being handed out is not the one on that page. I also have 2 WAN connections hooked up as well a DSL link and a Cable link (the cable link is the primary one).
The following information is provided in an effort to resolve this issue:
IP of Router 10.0.0.2
IP of DHCP Server (the one that is being handed out):10.0.0.1
IP of DNS (the one that is being handed out): 10.0.0.11
What I want to it be.
IP of Router: 10.0.0.2
IP of DHCP 10.0.0.2
IP of DNS 10.0.0.2

What is supported in terms of running a mixed feature set in a Cisco 3750 switch stack. We are looking at setting up a stack consisting of 5 x 3750V2 and 2 x 3750G. Due to a requirement for full EIGRP we need the IP Services feature set. Is it a supported configuration to run with 2 or 3 switches running the IP Services feature set as stack masters and the others running IP Base? I understand that if stack master priorities were set these switches with the higher feature set could manage the stack and offer IP Services accross the stack. If we were to lose all of the switches running IP Services the stack would drop back to IP Base.I am looking for guidance as to if this is a supported configuration and not in breach of licensing? Is this likely to cause any problem other than above now and for future IOS releases?

We are running software version version 5.0(3)A1(1) and it looks like the latest version is 5.0(3)A1(2) so that's not much of a difference.Am I missing something here?

I have the following problem in LMS 4.0. I see a lot of CDP syslog messages about Native Vlan Mismatch, but the LMS doesn't report it in the disrepancy report. Why?? The similar problem is with TRUNK VLAN Mismatch. The customer doesn't use VTP in his network. All switches are in the VTP transparent mode.

I have a 2811 Router (config below) with VPN configured. I can connect through the VPN and access devices on the native VLAN but I can't access the 10.77.5.0 (VLAN 5) network (I don't care to access the 10.77.10.0 - VLAN 10 network). This issue has been plagueing me for quite a while. I believe it's a NAT or ACL issue. VPN client IP pool is 192.168.77.1 - 192.168.77.10. [code]

In our network environment, we have a 2960 switch sitting behind our router. Off of this we have a lot of external connections, like our external DNS, firewall, and VPN concentrators. I've configured a VLAN other than the default, moved everything into it and then shut VLAN 1. In this hardening guide it says that your native VLAN should be something other than the user VLAN, but if I am not using any trunk links, wouldn't I not really have a native VLAN? I attempted to make the link to our firewall a trunk link and then set the native VLAN to something else.

Is PVID the same thing as "native vlan"? Can the native VLAN be changed on a SA520? Currently I believe it to be 1, I'd like to change the native VLAN to 10.
I have a scenario where I have a prexisting production LAN of 192.168.1.0/24 . It's a small organization (a church), but they purchased 3 Aironet 1130ag units. They want to have a "private" WLAN that is part of 192.168.1.0/24 , and a guest WLAN of a different subnet (I chose 192.168.20.0/24) . The two should never meet. There will likely never be a guest computer connected via ethernet. Guest computers would always have to connect wirelessly.
I left VLAN 1 on the SA520 192.168.75.0/24 subnet as default.I created a VLAN 10 , 192.168.1.0/24 subnet, and I created a VLAN 20, 192.168.20.0/24 subnet.Ports 1-3 of the SA520 are members of VLAN 1, 10, and 20 (cannot remove membership of VLAN1, which is pretty annoying).
Both are secured by WPA, and when I connect, the proper DHCP subnet passes from the firewall through to the wireless client, for each respective SSID.Ultimately, I'd like the SBS 2003 server to handle DHCP for VLAN 10, and have the SA520 handle DHCP for VLAN 20, but i'll take what I can get.
The original production LAN is connected via an unmanged switch.I'd like to trunk the unmanaged switch to Port 4 on the SA520. However, since the PVID (native vlan?) of SA520 is 1, and I cannot make Port 4 on the SA520 ony a member of VLAN 10, then anything traffic coming from the unanaged switch will automatically be tagged with VLAN1, correct? Thus causing the already existing production network to start receiving DHCP from the firewall in the 192.168.75.0/24 range.

I am going to creat VLANs very 1st time therefore for test purpose I have following simple scnerio.I have created 2 VLANs , VLAN2 and VLAN3 on Cisco Catalyst 2960 series switch. Ports 1-12 is assigned to VLAN2 and Ports 13-24 are assiged to VLAN3. Now I have configured DHCP on Microsoft Server 2003 defining 2 scopes with following configurations.
Scope 1 for VLAN 2--- Range is 172.16.0.17 to 172.16.0.30 with subnet mask=255.255.255.240 . Server IP address 172.16.0.17
( Note: Address 172.16.0.17 is excluded from dhcp server Scope 1 and give to the MS server itself)
Scope 2 for VLAN 3----Range is 172.16.0.33 to 172.16.0.46 with subnet mask=255.255.255.240 .
Now in Cisco 2960 series switches, under Vlan 2 and Vlan 3, I have following configurations...
interface Vlan2
ip address 172.16.0.30 255.255.255.240
ip helper-address 172.16.0.17
interface Vlan3
ip address 172.16.0.46 255.255.255.240
ip helper-address 172.16.0.17
Now the problem is when i connect a client computer to any port from 1-12, It gets correct IP address from Scope 1 but when I connect a computer to any port from 13-24, it does not get the ip address.
Further I want to do inter VLAN comunication as well for that purpose i Have an ISR 2900 series router. What further configuration i will have to do on router for inter vlan communication.

1 week ago, I got a call from a client that reported a network outage, the client told me that, 3 switch has crashed he try to console but it just hang. I ask him, did you change something? he said he didn't change anything, he just pluged a nortelswitch to the cisco switch number 9, but that switch doesn't crash like the others (3,4,8). I check the uptime, and yes the switch never been powered off..
the topology look like this
____ 6500 ____
/ / |
1 2 3 4 5 ...... 9
the vlan is end to end vlan, so vlan span between all those switches. transparant. this is collapsed topology, core and distribution is the 6500 itself all of the 1-9 access switch are in the same rack, with no loopguard, and bpdu guard configured. and connected to the core using etherchannel. the problem is there is no log available to start the troubleshooting/investigation.

I am having trouble after creating a management vlan (99) on a 3550 switch.I have configured the vlan (99) and given it an IP (192.168.1.100) and a default gateway (my router address - 192.168.1.99).I can ping to the switch from a PC and vice versa. The management VLAN IP is fine but now I cannot ping to the router from either the PC or the switch. It seems that just by adding VLAN 99 with it's own IP address has now prevented pings from the switch/ PC to the router ?Due to the fact that I have created a new switch management VLAN with an IP, does this mean I have set up the router as a 'router on a stick' scenario ? We are trying to setup a new configuration with 2960S as access switchs and a 4507 as a core switch.I want to protect the management IP VLAN of the swich using vrf on the 4507 so we :
SHUT VLAN 1 on every switch (2960 + 4507)
CREATE A NEW VLAN 289 (management vlan) -> IP network : 10.32.126.192/26
L3 VLAN on every switch
VLAN 289 in the VRF XXX on the 4507
create tunk between the switch and the 4507 :
switch mode trunk allowed vlan 200-230
sw trunk native vlan 289
so with this configuration on the 2960 the vlan 289 is UP/DOWN and UP/UP on the 4507 I can access to the 4507 using the IP in the VLAN 289 but i cannot access to the 2960 behind the 4507 CDP connectivity is ok?

I am migrating an existing LAN from 3550 to 3750X-12S. In the existing configuation, I´ve got some trunks with native VLAN <> 1. The native VLAN is also used for user data transport. With IOS 15.0(1)SE3 on 3750X I recognized, that per default behavior PVST is not active for a VLAN defined as native, even if the corresponding trunk is up and trunking. My current workaround is to add a "switchport access vlan" command on the trunk even this one never should become an access port. With this statement only the switch is activating the PVST for the native VLAN. For all other vlans PVST works as exspected. [code]

On my new E4200v2, after I tried to move beyond the disappointment of Cisco removing Internet Access Policy entirely, I decided to give the stripped down Parental Controls a try.
Sadly, I didn't have any luck doing what I needed to do... block my Tivo's from accessing Youtube.
I enabled Parental Controls, Added the Target Devices (my Tivo's did show up), and added "Youtube.com" as blocked site #1. Saved. Entered the parental password when prompted. Even rebooted the router.
But Youtube wasn't blocked. So I added to the target list a non-Tivo device (a Macbook) for a reality check, and rebooted the router again... still no luck. Youtube still not blocked.
So then I started to wonder if their Parental Control depends somehow on the local DHCP server & Client list. Because my E4200 has DHCP Server = OFF (I have always used a Windows Server for DHCP).
I tried to call Linksys support to get this working, but after 45 mins, including escalation to senior engineer, they really were pretty useless (no real familiariarity with my problem) then they disconnected my call!

I have several closets with Cisco 3560 on the edge that I'd like to change the vlan that's used for the management vlan on each. In the core I have a Cisco 6509 with Sup720's.
I'd like to do this by changing the native vlan on the trunk port on the core 6509 interface that connects to the 3560. and leave the management vlan on the 3560 as vlan 1.
Seems trivial but what I tried didn't work and I didn't have the window to troubleshoot. I'll paste the simplified configs for the interfaces below

We have a problem with CDP packets on sent by our Cisco 6509's. Unlike our other Cisco switches (4948G, 5020, etc.), the 6509 tags administrative traffic on the native vlan. As a result the CDP packets are sent with an 802.1Q header with a tag of 1. The other switches send the CDP packets untagged on the native vlan. This causes problems because we have non-Cisco devices in our lab that also receive and send CDP, but they do not process the packets that are tagged by the 6509. They see the packets from the 4948 and 5020 just fine.
How can I disable the administrative native vlan tagging on the 6509? Here is the current setup:
nwkdev-6509-1#show vlan dot1q tag native
dot1q native vlan tagging is disabled globally
nwkdev-6509-1#show interfaces gigabitEthernet 1/9/1 switchport
