View 1 RepliesI have a E3200 Router and when the computers are connected directly to router (Wired) the speed is SLOW and when computers are connected via wireless the speed is fast (normal). What can i do to have the wired computer with same fast speed as wireless?....i'm i missing something? Here are the speed results:
All wired computers connections (total of 4) downwload speed ranging from 8 Mbps to 13 Mbps.
All wireless computer connections download speed stable at 49 Mbps.
I just bought a synology NAS ds212j . I updated to DSM4.0. I purchased 2 Seagate ST2000DM001 Barracuda 7200RPM 2 TB SATA 6 GB/s NCQ 64 MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Bare Drive
My e3200 has the latest 1.0.04 firmware I'm backing up via time machine(mac book pro) in MAC 10.7.4 which has a wireless N card.
in Utilities (activity monitor)I'm only getting 9 megabytes per second , why is it so slow? I feel like it's taking forever. e3200 says it does up to 300 megabytes per second. any possible settings causing this?
a backup of 202 gigs has been running for about 4 hours and still going
Ok, so I recently upgraded to a Linksys E3200. I am trying to get the QoS to work properly. I know that it is supposed to prioritize network traffic, so that if I have busy traffic but I am playing an online game, it should keep my gaming from stuttering while slowing other traffic down.
The problem is that every time I enable QoS everything slows down dramatically. I had a 200MB download that was going to take 5hrs with QoS enabled, that took 10min with QoS disabled. And with QoS enabled I can't even watch a youtube video without it pausing to buffer every 10 seconds. And that was the only PC/device using the network at the time. Again turning off the QoS WMM option solved the problem. I have noticed this problem with multiple routers and brands and usually just disable QoS as soon as I set up a router, however I heard that I won't get the full benefit of 300Mbps without QoS enabled.
I don't have any special Voice over IP needs, or video streaming etc. and I rarely am using multiple network devices at the same time. Is there really any reason I should enable QoS? Also I never really play with the settings for QoS, I just figure that since it comes enabled by default it should work for the average consumer.
Each time I'm rebooting my E3200 device my ping to my ISP is 20ms. Few hours later the ping goes up to 300-500ms.Than I reboot again and the ping is going down to 20ms again.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhy my E3200 is (for lack of a better word) "throttling" my internet speeds.I'm signed up for my ISP's 50Mbps data plan. When I hook up my laptop directly to the cable modem (via LAN cable), I see close to 50Mbps as the internet speed (measure via speedtest.net). When I hook up my router to the cable modem, and connect via LAN cable to the router, the internet speed comes down to around a maximum of 26Mbps. NOTE, that I am still talking about a wired connection and not a wireless access. Speed tests with the wireless access do yield the same results as well. To rule out the obvious, I've confirmed that there aren't any other devices on the network and no other bandwidth hogging applications running while I performed these tests.

I am a sales engineer, so I use my desktop and laptop all the time. When on road, I sync my desktop with my laptop using a program called ViceVersa. This a very good, reliable syncing program that I have been using for over 10 years ( with upgrades ).
The program allows me to sync my desktop and laptop. The program also shows the data transfer rate during the syncing process. The typical data transfer speed is between 5MB/s and 10MB/s with sometimes up to 12MB/s. A typical sync between the computers will take about 3 - 5 minutes at the ~ 10 MB/s transfer rate using ethernet CAT6 cable inteface. At about 11pm last Tuesday, there was a Windows update on both my Vist and Win7 computers. On wednesday, I went to do a typical sync. The system has dramatically slowed to 59KB/s max. This is about 150 times slower than 5-10MB/s that I was used to for so many years. My typical sync was now taking about 2 hours....unacceptable ! I have tried everything to figure out what is going on and how to fix it but nothing has worked.
Then I tried to see what would happen if I disconnected my ethernet cable ( between the router and the laptop only ) and just sync using the wireless network. With that configuration, the transfer rate is ~ 2.5 MB/s which is not great but is much, much better than 59KB/s. I actually do not know what a reasonable wireless transfer rate should be since I never really did it before due to the faster speed of the wired configuration.
This is just a LAN. Only connecting my Desktop to my Laptop via the Cisco router.
How I can get my wired configuration back up to the 5-10MB/s transfer rate that it once was?
I have bought Linksys E3200 less than month ago.I have setup it, connected HD (WD My Book 1TB) through USB and it work good, without any problem.Than week ago, I turned off the router, because of my vacation. Yesterday, I came back, turned on the router. WiFi was working good, cable connection too. But there was no connection to HD. I had checked information about HD on admin page, router understood that it is HD, but not provided share access to folder, also, there was no button, to setup it.I disconnected HD, tried to connect it using the Cisco Connect, it provided mistake with USB connection to HD and than with HTTP connection to router. I disconnected HD, tried to connect it manually: connect HD -> go to admin page -> refresh to show HD -> admin page freeze... -> reboot of router manually.
There was a lot of tries to connect HD, but all was failed.I connect HD to computer, it works successfully.I checked connection to router through USB, using my card reader and SD flash card, it works successfully.Information about HW:
1. Linksys E3200, last update of firmware for German (was bought using German Amazon) country. (Cannot check it now, if needed will check)
2. Computer: Windows XP SP3
3. WD My Book 1TB (NTFS)
My Linksys E3200 has no wireless access to the internet. Wireless devices show they are connecting to the router, but cannot access the internet.
The router had worked fine until suddenly no internet access. Mac network diagnostics show that the connections are correct until the ISP and Internet which show either yellow or red.
The router's homepage shows no changes in configuration. Ethernet connection works fine.
I got an E3200-RM (refurbished).
I did not do a MAC Address Clone, when I connected it I just called my ISP and they enabled it. Internet connection with all devices right there, no problem.
Problem started next day, every day I have to do a hard reset because when I wake up I have no connection with all devices (1 Ipad, 2 Iphones, 2 PCs, 1 Xbox 360, 1 PS3): My SSID is seen on the network but no device can connect to it.
I changed the Channels to manual as said on other threads, but didn't work.
In addition to that, when I try connecting my PC with the ethernet cable to the router -instead of wireless-, I have no internet connection on the PC and any other device that I try to reconnect to the router wirelessly can't connect anymore (have to do a hard reset again and unplug the ethernet cable).
the WRT54G worked perfectly for me...
My E3200 is having issues with keeping the speed up on wireless G. I'm about 20 feet away from the E3200 and there is 1 6in wall between me and the E3200. My connection will not hold 54Mbps, its constantly dropping to 36Mbps, even down to 5.5Mbps faily often. Around 30 feet away there i will lose internet connection yet my laptop says excellent connection to wireless.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with my E3200 that has happened at least 4 times since I first purchased, installed and configured it. Initially I thought it might be something with Comcast, but a) I never had the problem with my Linksys WRT54G router and b) It seems I can now duplicate the issue by saving a config file and restoring it.The specific issue appears to be somewhat random. At some point the connection to the Internet simply stops for no apparent reason. I am able to ping the router and connect to it. I am also able to drop and renew connections to the cable modem successfully. Furthermore, I can ping my network side of the router, as well as the external address handed to my router by the cable modem, and the cable modem gateway address, but still no connection to the Internet. The only solution to my problem has been to restore the factory defaults to the router and reconfigure it from scratch, which does seem to fix the issue for a time until it occurs again. FYI, I do not use the Cisco connect software because I have several custom port and QOS configs that are necessary for an IP Phone and other hardware on my network.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded 3 days ago from a (WRT160N ver. 1) to a (E3200) After setting it up and syncing all the devices including the XBOX 360. After signing into Live I noticed that every time I power off and power on the console it's IP address would change causing the NAT to become moderate so I went over to the Xbox360 open the Network settings and Manually set the IP address Mac address, Gateway address. Then I opened the routers settings page and Port Forwarded the correct ranges also copied the IP address I manually entered earlier on the Xbox 360. On the router side I saved the changes restarted the console and my NAT was open, but here's the Issue now when I go to sign into Live I get a pop up saying I can't connect to Live to "Test the Connection". After I "Test the Connection" then and only then I can sign into Live.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently replaced an old Linksys with a Cisco E3200. All our devices get "stuck" periodically and can connect to the E3200 but not the internet. We power cycle the E3200 and all is fine. But only for a period of time, then we need to power cycle again. The range is less than my 4 year old Linksys was also, devices maybe 30 feet lose their connection even more quickly, forcing more frequent power cycling.

When I use the wireless connection the "Connection Status" shows as 72Mbps, which is to be expected considering I am only a few feet from the router.the speed is nothing like that in reality. I tested the actual transfer speeds for the wired and wireless connections by copying a 238MB folder with 77 photos in it. I copied it from the NAS device, where I store all my files, to the local disk of the netbook.

I bought a PCI Wireless card and I have been having problems connecting to and staying connected with the network. Once I am connected the connection speed is very slow. I have tried reinstalling windows and my card several times, even going to the store to swap it out. I have a feeling that one simple setting is changed, but I can't figure out what it is. I am currently on a laptop that is also running windows 7, but has none of the problems of the desktop. View 2 Replies View RelatedI just had comcast internet installed, and am using a linksys wireless router (WRT160N). When I connect my netbook to the network it gets 0.7mbps on speedtest.net, when I use my girlfriends laptop it gets 16+mbps. I have tried everything, I am at my whits end. I have updated my firmware, updated windows to the the limit and reset the settings on my router. If I connect my netbook directly to the router I get 20+ but wireless is 0.7 and upload speed stays the same. I am using an HP Mini 210-2000 with windows 7 starter, I have updated it to service pack 1 and have all the windows based drivers installed. I have not tested it on another wireless network to see if it gets the same terrible connection. I don't know if its something with my computer, windows 7 starter, or the way my computer talks to the router
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo, first of all, I have two PCs in my home, one connected directly to the router, the other connected through the wireless network. I use the wireless connected PC. In the past I've had some issues of my connection cutting out on random occasions for about a minute then reconnecting back. This happened to every single user connected to the network, including the one connected directly to the router. It was just a minor nuisance so I just put up with it. However, one day my internet just slowed down to a crawl and I don't think any hardware/software changes were made to cause this, but I may be wrong. What confuses me is that, now the internet has slowed down, the disconnecting issue is a very rare occurrence. It happens probably once a day, where as before it was much more frequent. I assume it has something to do with my network not being so strained. The PC connected directly to the router does not seem to have this issue, in the speed test below, it has a higher download rate, around 6-7mbps I think (it's pretty bad in this area, but it's usable).I have done some research as to why this is happening, but there are so many different diagnoses for a slow internet that finding the one I'm having is really difficult. I thought it was just my ISP performing maintenance but it's lasted for about 4-5 days now.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been racking my brain for a while and cannot figure out why I am not getting 144Mbps out of my Aironet 1040. I was reading a previous thread ([URL]) and set it up exactly like it said. I have set the encryption to Cipher AES CCMP and set the SSID to open authentication. I also set the SSID's key management to enable WPA (WPAv2).
I was reading that WMM has to be set. I have 3 options: Disabled, Legacy, and dot11d. If i chose dot11d I have to put in a coutry code. Problem is there are no options in the country code pull down. I cannot even manually type it in.
Another problem is that cell phones cannot connect. It keeps saying authentication fails in the log.
I have installed a wired and wireless connection for a compound which is around150 squire meters. I used the Cisco wap4410n routers for the wireless setup.
The structure is like this. There is a connection coming from the service provider. There is a central switch where the connection coming from service provider, the server, one Cisco wap4410n router and other two switches are directly connected to it. Again I connected other switches to the switches getting connection from the central switch. I used Cat 5e and Cat 6 cables to connect the switches as well as the wireless routers (For more info , the cable goes underground) and I used cross-over cable to connect switch to switch and straight-through to connect routers to switches. I connected the other Cisco wap4410n routers to the switches outside( I get like 6 Cisco wap4410n routers)The wireless routers are connected to the switches which are connected to the central switch and also on the other switches.
The routers are configured to have their default AP mode.My problem The connection is very slow. The connection is down almost every week and it needs to be re-configured. The connection nice on the router which is directly connected to the central switch(but not the same on the others routers which are connected to the other switches)even when I reset them they don't fall to .245 ( which is ok I can see them on the DHCP server but I still see it as problem)when I set them as a wireless wireless repeater, full signal but no connection(given that I have set same SSID, enabled allow wireless signal to be repeated, filling MAC addresses) Down here I have tried to show the architecture diagrammatically.
I recently moved to a new apartment to be closer to work and this apartment complex is only covered by what I was told is a wireless hotspot.Basically, a wireless devices connects to the SSID, logs in, and then you're set with the most pitiful internet still available. Now I was told I could pay $70 bucks to have these people (Onlyinternet.net by the way) install a device that would allow me to connect my desktop to the internet service. Wasn't thrilled about that. Its $40 a month, for a 1Mb connection so that wasn't going to happen anyway.Looked up internet connection sharing and had setup my laptop to use it with my desktop. My connection on my laptop has always had a very low signal; between one and two bars no matter where I'm at in my apartment. If I go outside it'll get about 4 bars but that is about it. The actual speeds listed on the Wireless Network Connection Status go from 1Mbps, 2Mpbs, 5.5Mpbs and 11Mbps. Never higher.Today I went and picked up a NETGEAR N300 wireless router. My hope was that the router might be able to pick up the wireless connection and I could just connect through my router instead of having to use my laptop. Apparently, this is not the case.I have to use my laptop act as a modem and have it plugged into the Internet port of the router and then my desktop connected to one of the LAN ports on the router. Is this setup better then using the internet connection sharing deal? Is there any other way of increasing my signal strength and network speeds?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Bright House as my ISP and did not want to pay a monthly rent (and an additional $45 for installation) so I decided to buy the SBG901.
Long story short I discovered that the variable and slow wireless speed is because of the wireless feature and not Bright House.
Have tried to modify several settings (as the ones found on Amazon's reviews) but still get 4-5 MB instead of the 7MB that I get with a wired connection and sometimes I do not get any wireless internet at all !
I am about to purchase a modem and a separate router if I can't find a solution for this. Unit is out of warranty so Motorola won't assist either.
I've just had a custom computer built and I seem to have a problem with my wireless internet connection. I have a Realtek 8185 extensible 802.11b/g wireless adapter. My computer recognizes my house's network and is connected to the internet with a good connection, but when I open up my web browser it takes a very long time for the page to load and sometimes never does. The laptop I'm on right now is connected to the same internet and it is running just fine. I've uninstalled the device and rebooted to have the driver reinstalled but the problem still occurs.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHaving some issues with my wireless connection which only seem to occur after 12-1AM, my signal according to windows 7 seems be lowered which results in anywhere from 2-10 seconds stall in service, sometimes even disconnecting me all together.

Using the Dir-655 router with B1revision with 2.0 firmware, connected with an older wireless G adapter.
I originally installed my DIR-655 as a wireless access point, not using the wired ports at all, and it worked fine like this. Trouble with my trying to set up my Bell router/modem with port forwarding prompted me to change my configuration so my Bell router /modem is now only a modem, and I am using the DIR-655 as a wired as well as wireless router. I have a separate network server and so don't use the DHCP on the DIR-655, and I only use one port to connect to a separate gigabit switch that serves the network.
I am finding that the wireless connection works really well with the few wireless devices I have connected (mainly an apple tv, and a MAC book) but my wired connections to the internet "feel" slow, sometimes with a significant delay before links to sites are established. I click a link, and wait for several seconds before the site shows up in the browser; sometimes after that the same site seems to respond at normal speeds, other times there are added delays.
Is there something in the DIR-655 settings that would cause this? The wireless connections seem fine.
Should I be looking at a new router/modem (rather than separate boxes)? If so what would be the equivalent D-Link model?
