Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 Dropping Internet Connection Randomly

May 24, 2012

One of our hospitals keeps reporting that their internet is going out for a while than comes back up, sometimes they even have to reset the ISP modem for this it to work again. I upgraded and switched ISP to Time Warner Cable and figured it would essentially solve the issue, but there are still reports of internet outage and our new ISP has confirmed multiple times that their end is still up. Our ASA 5505 was configured by a previous employee, but when looking at the running config I noticed that the Interface for our ISP is NOT set to Duplex Full and Speed 100.

WRT54GX - Internet Randomly Dropping Connection?

Sep 13, 2011

I have the unfortunate experience of persistent connection issues with my Comcast cable internet. Periodically (sometimes several times in an hour) my connection dies, and then resumes within a minute or two. It is not a long downtime but it is long enough to disrupt whatever I happen to be doing on the internet (Skype, messaging, online gaming, uploading, downloading, etc.) which can be very irritating. I know enough about computers that I've built several of my own machines, but I am no expert in networking by a long shot...

Here are my internet specs: Comcast broadband with RCA DHG535-2 cable modem plugged into a wireless Linksys router model WRT54GX.

I know the connection issues don't lie with my wireless card because I have two computers and they both drop at the same time. The issue HAS to be either the router or modem (or Comcast), but from all the other posts I've read of similar issues, I suspect it might be the modem.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 Connection Dropping

Jun 23, 2012

I have a Cisco ASA 5505 - 50 VPN edition.  I have baffling network issues that I have not been able to pinpoint and I recently started to think it may have something to do with my ASA.  I'm a network administrator and I have a Cisco ASA 5505 in my home network so I can learn how to manage Cisco ASA's and utilize the Easy VPN feature so I have a always on VPN connection into work to log into servers, etc.  I've been using the ASA for almost 6 months with the EasyVPN feature with no issues.  My ISP is Comcast.

Within the last week my connections have been randomly dropping for about 20 seconds and then reconnecting.  I have two computers on the network that have a direct ethernet run to the switch ports on the back of the ASA.  When the connection drops, I see my LAN icons completely lose connectively (yellow exclamation warning) then after 20 seconds, reconnect.  This is very random.  I was able to get it to happen every time I connected to XBOX live and play a online game.  It would almost on cue drop after 30 minutes of online gamming.  Here are the steps I have taken:

1. Replaced 10/100 switch to a brand new 10/100/1000 switch from computer run in my office to the ASA.
no joy

2. I upgraded the ASA to the most recent firmware: ASA Version 8.4, ASDM Version 6.4
no joy

3. I had an ethernet run under my carpet to the office, I started to  think that maybe one of the cables had an issue after walking on it and  vacumming causing a short.  I removed all the ethernet under the carpet and installed power line over ethernet adapter from the ASA to my office.
no joy

4. I checked both computers on the network for viruses.  All computers came back clean after scanning wth Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware.

5. I've watched the logs on the ASA as the LAN connection drops and I don't see error messages to troubleshoot this issue.

The only thing left to replace is the Comcast modem or the Cisco ASA.  The Comcast modem is newer and only about 1 year old (rented from Comcast).  Since my actual LAN connection drops and I lose connectively I believe there may be some issue with the ASA or the ASA switch ports or some sort of internal hardware issue on the ASA.

Protocols / Routing :: Connection Keeps On Dropping Randomly?

Oct 25, 2011

I am running Windows Vista Business SP2 and I have been having problems lately with my internet connection. I am on a DSL connection and my computer keeps on dropping the connection like every 15-20min in order to get my connection back I have to disable and then reenable the network connection, but the weird thing is that I don't get internet connection, but I can still send and recieve IM's and Mail when my internet goes down. It is not my ISP that is wrong , but my computer, because I have a windows xp and it does the same thing and I also have a windows 7 PC and that one does not lose connection when my other ones do. On my Windows XP all what I have to do so it gets connection again is click on the connection and then click repair and I get internet again, but Windows Vista does not have this option so I have to disable and reenable my connection

Cradlepoint MBR1000 - My Connection Randomly Dropping

Mar 15, 2012

My internet is set up like this: 3G USB modem>Desktop>Router>Everyone else. This works well except that the connection randomly drops for everyone connecting through the router. Every minute or so when you load a page a message from the router will pop up saying no attached WAN device, this goes away after about two seconds but it effectively interrupts file downloads and signs you out of things. I can plug the modem directly into the router and it doesn't drop, but for some reason it increases my ping by about 15 and I have to reset the modem twice an hour or it becomes very slow. My router is a cradlepoint MBR1000 and my modem is a sierra wireless 598U. I have also tried connecting the modem to other computers but everyone connected to the router still gets random connection drops.

WR1043ND Router Dropping Connection Randomly?

Jun 25, 2012

I bought a TP-Link WR1043ND router about 3 months ago and I had a problem since then.It keeps dropping my connection randomly. If I hook my PC directly to the modem, the connection's fine. With the stock firmware, if the connection drops, I can't even access my router through its IP. I get an indefinitely loading webpage with nothing to show. I can only solve this by unplugging and then plugging in the router.DD-WRT was better, I could access the router anytime a disconnect occurred, but it still occurred.

Routers / Switches :: Connection Dropping When Others Connect (Sometimes Randomly)

May 7, 2012

For the past few months my internet connection will randomly drop for about 5-10 seconds when someone else connects to the network. I am using a wired Ethernet connection and as said when someone connects either via WiFi or also through a wired connection, the internet for me will drop as soon as the device is connected, and then randomly every 20 minutes or so thereafter. I should also mention that rarely the connection will just drop for again, 5-10 seconds even when nobody else is connected.I tried my computer at someone else's house using their router and it worked fine, no disconnects at all.

Computers Randomly Dropping Home-group Connection

Mar 26, 2012

I am working on a business network that was setup by another tech. Basically the connection comes from the modem to a 16 port switch (13 being used), and is going to each computer.. I'm thinking of tossing a router between the modem and switch to see if this works. Basically what it is doing is each computer accesses a database on the server, and occasionally they are losing connection to the database.. I did change all of the stations to static IP as they were all dynamic.

Internet Keeps Dropping Randomly?

As the topic says the internet keeps dropping at what seems like random times, Only for a few seconds but its enough to ruin the games I do play.Sometimes it will stay on local for like 5-10 minutes if its really bad but usually not, I've tried the regedit thing, updating wireless card driver and been searching on google for different stuff but it just doesn't seem to work.

Routers / Switches :: Randomly Dropping Wan Connection On Wifi Router

Mar 23, 2012

* ADSL modem connected to internet

* WiFi router (Netgear WPN824v2) connected to ADSL modem

* CPU, iPhone and iPad connected to router, CPU wired connection.Everything has worked like a charm up until a couple of days ago. Now the link between the router WAN port and the modem randomly drops. Stays dropped for 1-3 secs and then connect again. When its really bad this happens with 5-10 secs intervall. This made it impossible to use the network from any of the devices. If I disconnect the CPU from the router and connect it direcly to the modem and change the IP settings to match the modem network the CPU connects without errors to the internet, iPad and iPhone connected to the router keeps having problems.Restarting the router does not change anything and it seems to be more frequent errors during heavy load hours, in the morning I have almost no problems at all, in the evenings I cant almost use the wireless devices (CPU works fine as its now connected directly to the modem not through the router).I havent changed a setting in the last year, it just came right out of the blue.I have hard reset both the modem and the router and reconfigured them (that I dont want to do again as I have some virtual servers, port forwards, port triggers and so on :P).As it came right out of the blue without me changing anything on any device and as it seems to be more frequent during heavy load hours I'm suspecting that the ISP is involved, but how can they be (it works fine with devices connected straight to the modem)?

Throughout the day (sometimes even 5minutes apart) the DSL light will turn red, the internet will turn off green and 20-40 seconds later they'll both become green again. It's irritating because it sometimes happens so frequently and causes me to close EVERYTHING I have opened in my browser. If I'm on xbox or an online game, it disconnects completely (even if the light is only red for 15 seconds)I have data error stats .tl;dr: 2wire modem giving me problems. DSL light turns red randomly for 20-40 seconds, sometimes up to twice in 5 minutes.

WNDR3400 Router - Internet Randomly Dropping For An Instant

May 30, 2012

I have my ethernet cable hooked up to a WNDR3400 router, and my internet connection will drop for an instant randomly (usually happens at least once every 5 minutes) it then instantly reconnects. The problem is that when i'm downloading stuff, the disconnection will cause the download to fail and i'll have to restart from the beginning (making larger files impossible to download). Also, I have an xbox in the same room connected to the router via wireless. It also has the same issues of dropping and reconnecting and that causes me to get kicked out of live.Interestingly enough, my laptop, connected to the internet via wireless does not experience this issue when used in (or outside of) the room.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 - Randomly Stops Responding

Jun 5, 2012

I have an asa5505 with software version 7.2(3) that randomly stops responding. The firewall sits in front of a public facing webserver that handles a significant amount of traffic.I was wondering that would happen when the asa5505 reaches or exceeds the 4000 connections per second limit... i.e. would this possibly explain why my asa5505 stops responding and requires a power cycle in order to start working again. when it "crashes" it does not respond on either the outside or inside interfaces.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 Dropping UDP / 53 Traffic On Inside Interface?

Jul 21, 2012

We have a Cisco ASA 5505 (v7.2(3)) with a "fairly" normal configuration yet we have a problem where it appears UDP/53 traffic is denied on our inside network.

here is output from our sys log:

SyslogID   Source IP      Dest IP    Description
305006      172.18.22.3                   portmap translation creation failed for udp src inside:172.18.22.156/42013 dst inside:172.18.22.3/53

To give some clarification:

172.18.22.3      is one of our DNS servers
172.18.22.156  is a device we're experimenting with.

We've bypassed the Cisco by using a 4G wireless router with this same device - and it works flawlessly. Here is a [scrubbed] copy of our config. It is what I inherited from the previous admin - I'm not sure of all its finer points (I'm not Cisco certified -- perhaps I'm just certifiable.)

Randomly Lost Internet Connection

Dec 6, 2012

I was trying to browse the internet earlier, and I randomly just lost my internet connection. My homepage loaded up just fine, but then I tried to go to another site. It was taking a while to load. After about a minute a page finally came up that said "Server not found" (I use firefox). I can't get on any websites now and I can't get internet on any of my wireless devices either. When I right clicked my network icon on the toolbar and clicked on diagnose and repair it said "There may be a problem with the DNS. Windows attempted to find the well known host www.microsoft.com using dns. The server responded that the name was unknown." I have Windows Vista. Now I have no idea what I could have done. I didn't do anything out of the normal, just tried to go to a website that I frequently visit with no problems and this happened. This is what I get when I type ipconfig/all in cmd prompt. [code]

Cisco Routers :: RV082 V03 Randomly Connection Lost When Firewall Enabled

Sep 11, 2012

Hardware: RV082 V03
Firmware: RV0XX-v4.2.1.02
Lan: 192.168.1.0/255
Static routing: 192.168.1.239 to 172.25.152.64/224

The unit is configured as internet gateway. 4 NAT ports are active. When firewall disabled all works fine. When firewall enabled I do get connection lost at random interval. In firewall only 4 rules added to the default 3 rules. The added rules are:

1/ permit 192.168.1.22 port 25 to any
2/ permit 192.168.1.27 port 25 to any
3/ permit 192.168.1.10 port 25 to any
4/ deny any port 25 to any

I do get at random times connection lost when navigating with windows explorer on a PC with IP 192.168.1.x to a share on a PC with IP 172.25.152.74. The same happens when copying files.  Sometimes it works, later it fails or reties are needed.  When the firewall is switched off all runs fine.

Ping from 192.168.1.x to 172.25.152.74 allways give a <1ms response

Is there a RV082 perfomance problem or do I have a configuration problem?

Internet Connection Randomly Disconnects Or Resets

May 6, 2011

The problem is that my internet connection either randomly loses connection for about 5-10 seconds until it gets back online or disconnects all together. When it disconnects and it can't get back online on it's own, I have to pull the power plug and plug it back in. My sister in law and I are sharing internet since our houses are about 100 feet between each other. We are using one modem, and two routers. All we did was just plug the second router to the first router and it worked! We didn't configure anything in the router control panels, we basically just plugged and play. Since it's been kicking us off or resetting on us, I feel it might be something that we had to configure in the two routers. But I don't know what to configure. Primary House Modem Belkin Router (we are wired and wireless) 150ft cable (LAN'd on Belkin, WAN'd on Linksys) Linksys Router (sister in law is wired and wireless) Secondary House

Internet Connection Randomly Disconnecting / Reconnecting?

Jul 16, 2011

A couple of months ago my internet (Insight Broadband) began to randomly disconnect and reconnect, and recently it has become more frequent (every 5-10 minutes). I connect to my internet wirelessly through a linksys router. It's not my laptop because our desktop and xbox experience the same frequent disconnects and reconnects. I've tried the dns flush with no success. Ive also changed the wireless channel to 1 to prevent any interference. Also, our linksys router is about 4 years old, which could be the cause, but I'd like to eliminate all other possibilities first. And finally, every time i click diagnose connection I receive the error " Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding.

And just recently our internet has become very slow (youtube videos taking longer to buffer with many pauses). I eliminated the possibility of my router itself being at fault as when I plugged my xbox or laptop or desktop directly into the modem the same frequent disconnects and reconnects occurred. Here's a copy of my ipconfig /all: [code] Also, sometimes when I diagnose the connection I don't get this error but the random disconnects and reconnects still occur.for the past couple of days or so I'm no longer getting the first error message about a DNS server, however the disconnects are still occurring as often.
