Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5520 Adding Network Objects Via CLI
Nov 3, 2011
I'm working with ASA 5520s. how to add network objects via CLI. I know I could easily do it using ASDM, but I like to learn the hardway first. How do I add the subnet mask for a network object when creating via CLI? [code] That sets up the hosts with IP addresses, but how do I add the subnet mask?
I am trying to create host objects that I'll then add to network-object groups for use in ACL/ACEs.When I try to create a host I am having trouble adding the IP address.I then get an error saying the host name must start and end with letters or numbers and only contain letters or numbers. What do I need to do to create hosts from CLI?
I have a customer an exisiting 5505 which connects to multiple sites for a site-to-site VPN. This firewall was not installed by myself originally I have just been asked to take a look now.The situation is that we now need to edit one of the existing site-to-site VPNs to include the remote sites expanded network. I have tried doing this through the ASDM and have found that I cannot add new network objects. I have tried creating a new network object group and then added the new networks from there but I am completely unable to add the new objects.I believe a picture tells a thousand words in this case so I have attached some images which show the problem. I have also tried going through the VPN wizard, this also does not allow me to add new network objects.
I have one ASA 5520 up and runnign, with complete configuration (ssl customization, DAP, CSD...) with bunch of files on flash drive, etc. I am using software 8.3Now I received one 5520 that I want to use failover, it is with 8.3, I will make sure that ASDM is also the same on both...
So, my question is how to make my running ASA to become primary and to push all info (config, files on flash, etc) to new ASA?
I found few examples, but nothing tells me how to force one ASA to be the source for sync.
I'm testing upgrading an ASA from 8.2.5 to 8.4.4. During the the upgrade, it change all of my ACL host entries to objects. But I noticed that the keyword "host" is still a valid option when creating an ACL.
I'm trying to understand why this change is made during the migration.
My ASA5505 has an external address of x.x.x.13. We have got another 2 spare ip addresses: x.x.x.10 and x.x.x.11.We also have 2 internal hosts, which we need to provide with internet access using NAT. y.y.y.146 and y.y.y.70.
We recently updated our ASA to software version 8.3(1). I was thinking that I could do it using network objects and groups, but didn't understand quite good how this should be done.
The goal is to set up ASA in the way, that if either of the abovementioned 2 hosts will connect to the internet, it needs take one of 2 external addresses. All other hosts should use PAT through x.x.x.13.
when I migrated the ASA config from 8.2 to 8.3, in all groups the group members has been replaced by the IP address object. However, the "name" for this object has been migrated, but there is the "object network name" configuration missing.
What I can do now is that I can open the new created object in the ASDM, search for the object with this IP address and then enter the object name I had before. When I apply the config, ASDM then creates the object and replaces all affected objects in all groups, by replacing the object group memeber "network-object host hostname" with "network-object object hostname".
Do you know if there exists an automated way, which checks all the groups for members "network-object host", creates the "object network" and replaces the "network-object hosts" with "network-object object" within the group? As long we have a lot of groups which contains partially > 50 members?
I'm trying to add an extended ACL (120) to an 800 series router (887) using Network Objects to allow the management user IP range full access to IP services and restricted access to email only for standard user IP range. However as soon as I apply the ACL to the outbound of my Vlan no matter what is in the ACL my PC looses internet connectivity. I've tried adding an explict allow for my IP address and still no access so I'm thinking possible a NAT issue, please have a look at my attached config and let me know what you think. Would I be better trying to control data flow with ZBF? I want to restrict standard users to email access only during the work day with web access and IM access after hours along with blocking all P2P programs for standard users at any time. Management group will have unrestricted access to all IP protocols. My original plan was to use time based ACL's!
I have an asa 5505 and I would like to adding a new rule for a network, however it was added, it seems it would be inactive. I have two inside network,192.168.12.0/24 (name: lanA) and 192.168.99.0/24. (name: lanB) I have the following in the running-config:
access-list lanB_acl line 1 extended permit ip 192.168.99.0 255.255.255.0 any access-group lanB_acl in interface lanB_interface
But when I tried to reach a host in the lanA, the packets are dropped. I configure the asdm, which shows this on the LanB interface:
1 lanB_network | any | ip | permit (hits 344) 2 any | any | ip | deny
and I checked the packet tracer with: tcp, source: 192.168.99.57:10460 dest: 192.168.12.2:443 and it shows that the packet has been dropped by the last 2. 'implicit any any ip deny' rule, in spite of my access-list rule (access-list lanB_acl line 1 extended permit ip 192.168.99.0 255.255.255.0 any) preceded it, and active.
The lanB and lanA interfaces are the same security level 100, and I can reach the outside/internet from 192.168.99.57 Is it possible that I have to reload the rules or something like in order to apply? Or I missconfigured something?
I'm considering adding a dedicated Firewall to my network. Here is what my home network currently consists of:
-Comcast Arris TM722 Broadband Modem -Netgear WNDR4500 N900 Gigabit WiFi 450/450 Router -2 x Netgear GS108NA 8 Port Gigabit Switches -1 x Netgear WN2500RP Universal WiFi Range Extender -4 Pc's running Windows 7 Home Premium -Netgear ReadyNAS NV+ -3 x Blu-ray players - Sony & Oppo (2 wired, 1 connected by WiFi) -Sony PS3 (wired) -Onkyo TX-NR905 AVR (wired) -Sony KDL-55HX800 TV (wired) -2 x Vizio E400 Seies Smart TV's (1 wired, 1 connected by WiFi through Netgear WN2500RP Range Extender) -HP Photosmart Printer
All wired connections using Cat6 ethernet cabling. So, I want to setup a Gigabit Firewall between the modem and the router (and just use the router as the wireless access point) but I don't want to take a hit on my bandwidth speed.I was thinking of the Netgear ProSafe FVS318G for this.
I'd like to see some REAL LIFE comparisons of ASA firewall throughput (a bit like this one for ISR G2 Routers - [URL].
The reason I ask is that I recently upgraded a firewall from an ASA5505 to an ASA5520 on a small network where the only outside connectivity was a single 10meg Internet circuit with an IPSEC VPN (not landed on the firewall but on a router) to another site.
When I swapped out the firewall the users noticed a big improvement. The firewall is not doing anything out of the ordinary - no IPS or VPN, just standard state full inspection.
I am attempting to install a 512 MB Cisco COmpact Flash for an ASA 5520. We have inserted the compact flash but when we do a DIR, it does not show. even as an unformatted device.
What do we need to do to make this a usable CF? Do I just need to reload the ASA or do I need to format the CF. It has been inserted into the slot in the back of the ASA 5520 and we have ensured that is had been seated properly.
I am setting up Clientless Anyconnect on ASA 5520. I have a Verisign Cert but when I go to Certificate Management-->CA Certificates-->Add, I put everything in and click "install certificate" I get an error. FYI I have the Primary Cert Authority Installed already?
I am trying to configure a server(192.168.5.50) in DMZ(192.168.5.0/24) to be able to communicate with a domain controller(10.5.44.220) in the inside network(10.5.44.0/24). I made some configuration using ASDM(not familiar with the CLI) but not working and it caused existing NAT not to work, for example RDP(TCP 3389) connection to 38.96.179.220
The things I am trying to achieve are
1. two way commucation between 192.168.5.50 in DMZ and 10.5.44.220 in Inside for SecureAuthPorts and SecureAuthOutbound service groups
2. NAT for 192.168.5.50 mapping 38.96.179.50 for the service groups mentioned above
I am having an issue where I can't get to external network sources via my sub interface which is attached to a 192.168.10.X VLAN I created to for Guest wireless traffic. The internal interface is a 10.5.X.X network. I can get out the external interface, but anything that we have A records for such as our mobile iron server that we can hit from the outside via https and an external IP can't be hit from the subinterface at all. Would this be a DNS rewrite issue or inspection problem?
I'm trying to achieve a site-to-site ipsec tunnel to a Cisco ASA 5520. Most examples feature the ASA with a public interface that terminates the tuennel and a private network on another interface that the tunnel interacts with. Where my scenario differs is that the interface that accepts the tunnel is part of a public /29 network where I want the remaining hosts on that subnet to be able to route thrugh to the other end of the tunnel. My tunnel gets established, but any attempts to route via the IP assigned to that one interface result in the ASA rejecting traffic. If so, what configuration options should I consider?
I am using ASA 5520 with 8.2.4 IOS. I'm new to ASA/Firewall. I need to do access webserver from outside network. From Laptop (192.168.2.51), If I connect to url... it should open page from 10.10.10.50.I also need to ssh to webserver from laptop. If I ssh to 192.168.2.50 from laptop, it should connect to 10. 10. 10.50. [code]I can't get to webserver from outside network, so now, I connected laptop to directly ASA 5520 outside port with crossover cable.ASA Inside port connects to L3 switch. Webserver also connects to L3 switch. But still doesn't work.
We are looking to deploy an ASA 5520, but I need to know if it is possible for it to work in this environment.
We have colo space, with two IP ranges. They provide two network drops, one from each switch connected to different routers. One in which has 4 usable IP's for management purposes. This address range will be used only for remote access to the ASA and VPN into the management VLAN. The management VLAN will have all internal devices such as the switches, etc. The second range is for the servers, of which will be assigned directly to the hosts and the ASA will need to act as just a firewall. I can do this on IOS, but not sure about the ASA.
I need to answer the following questions:
Does the ASA support dual network drops, and would this be a failover port configuration in order for it to work?A management VLAN with outbound internet access only, and VPN/RA capability. NAT will need to be used I'm guessing. Can we have a DMZ VLAN which has defined ports, say 80, 443 and 25 inbound and outbound. I need the hosts to have the public IP assigned to them with no NAT configuration.
I know there are some advantaged to using NAT, but I really can't use it because the applications behind prefer public IP's being assigned to them.
I'm migrating our network objects from our current firewall to a new ASA 5520 configuration. I'm using ASDM 6.4 for configuration.
We have a range of IP addresses for hosts that we need to add to a firewall rule/ACL. In the previous FW software I could create an object that was a range of IP address. For example there is an object called emailservers that is defined as 192.168.2.25-192.168.2.50.
Is there a way to do a similar thing on the ASA 5520?
I can see how to create subnets, but in this case I only have a range of IP addresses, no subnet mask.
Have cisco ASA5520 on place and i want to configure it to access my webserver outside of my network throught sftp/ftp with filezila what command to add so as port/service associate to it should be able to run?
We have a Cisco wireless infrastructure in place that includes a guest network with its own subnet that is a sub interface of the inside interface on our ASA 5520. There are no routes for it to be allowed access to the internal subnets. So it can only access the internet. This is primarily used by the public, but we have several non employee personnel that we only want to give internet access and force them to access the internal network through our clientless SSL vpn portal or through other internet facing internal resources such as webmail.I have done packet traces from within the ASA and the break appears to be there is no ACL allowing the traffic back into the network once the web resource replies to the request and the traffic is attempting to come back into the network from the web resource. Is that as clear as mud?
I know that this has to be a common problem and a way around this is to allow the guest wireless network access to the internal network but only for the select resources that they require. And that this can be done seemlessly by network specific routes and or alternate DNS entries, but I would like to keep this simple and just allow them to access the web resource, webmail and VPN, from the guest wireless using internet DNS servers without route trickery.
I use tracking objects aroung the organization where I work to monitor WAN and VPN connections and add/remove routes based on the state of the object. I'm having 2 locations that are constanty going up and down and I've been troubleshooting and monitoring for the last few weeks without finding anything. I've been incrementing the timeout for the SLA and it seems like this is working a little (less overall drops) but the drops still occur. Our ISP reports no issues and we see no issues internally on the circuits. Just out of curiosity could this be some kind of IOS bug or hardware malfunction? The router logs are full of these:
Mar 21 16:18:33: %TRACKING-5-STATE: 2 ip sla 2 reachability Up->Down Mar 21 16:18:38: %TRACKING-5-STATE: 2 ip sla 2 reachability Down->Up Mar 21 17:24:14: %TRACKING-5-STATE: 2 ip sla 2 reachability Up->Down Mar 21 17:24:19: %TRACKING-5-STATE: 2 ip sla 2 reachability Down->Up
[code]....
The IOS version of the router I took these from is 151-4.M6 advanced IP services and it's a 2821 router.
Any way of doing named objects or object groups for ACLs on the ASRs? (1000 series in this case.) I'm setting up an ASR with a zone-based firewall and writing out all the addresses, ports and protocols for the ACLs associated with the various zones is creating huge, unwieldy ACLs in the config.
Does the ASA treat an object-group with a network-object containing a range of IP addresses as a netmask? For example, I can apply this configuration without the ASA throwing any errors though the configuration calls for a 'net mask':
object-group network test network-object 192.168.0.0 192.168.63.255 ? network-object-group mode commands/options: A.B.C.D Enter an IPv4 network mask sh run ob id test object-group network test network-object 192.168.0.0 192.168.63.255
I found that in the documentation it requires a netmask as oppose to a range. Is this a bug in the code? I am running code version 8.0(5)23 on a 5520. If this is not a bug how does the ASA treat this type of configuration when applied to an access list? When I ran a quick packet trace and denied access from that range it looks like the ASA doesn't read that configuration properly.
We were using ASA-5520-K9 with ASA-SSM-AIP-20-K9 but recently found some hardware problem in our running ASA. Now cisco want to replace with ASA-5520-K8.
Any detailed knowledge about Cisco ACS 5.1 and Windows AD interaction? I wonder why does Cisco ACS domain account must have permission to create/delete domain objects. This fact does really surprided me, because to my mind Cisco ACS only reads domain structure, and does not make any changes.
I have Cisco ASDM 6.2 for ASA and I have been requested to add a list of URLs and IP address to the whitelist on the firewall.
I haven’t had much experience using this program so unsure of where I go to add these and I don’t want to risk changing anything that might affect the security of the firewall.
My web server is out of public IPs. I requested more from my ISP and I got a different range with a different gateway. How do I handle the configuration on my Cisco ASA? Without any configuration changes to the firewall I saw the traffic hitting it and being blocked. I added an access rule to allow the traffic. I added a virtual interface on the ASA. I added a virtual interface on the web server. Using "Packet Tracer" the traffic flows from the outside interface to the new virtual interface. But I'm unable to access my web server and I don't see any traffic on that IP reaching the web server.Using Cisco ASA 5510.
I'm tring to setup a DMZ for a guest wireless off of a 5505. So this device has a base license. It has vlan1 and vlan 2 for inside and outside.Another vlan is configured to be a failover for the currently active wan connection. It is using the "no forward interface" command. Can I add another vlan as a DMZ if I use the "no forward interface" command? [code]
I am pretty new to Cisco networking and setting up a test router to use from home to connect into our network. My organization would like for us to provide upper management with home office setups to give them the ability to work from home. We will provide all of the equipment of course (router, phone and workstation). my boss wants me to use some of our old decommissioned equipment to set up a test home office to see how efficient and feasible it would be. I have a Cisco 1700 router, Altigen IP720 phone, and Dell Optiplex 380 workstation.
