Cisco Firewall :: 5520 Can't Access Internal Web Server From Outside Network
Aug 23, 2011
I am using ASA 5520 with 8.2.4 IOS. I'm new to ASA/Firewall. I need to do access webserver from outside network. From Laptop (192.168.2.51), If I connect to url... it should open page from 10.10.10.50.I also need to ssh to webserver from laptop. If I ssh to 192.168.2.50 from laptop, it should connect to 10. 10. 10.50. [code]I can't get to webserver from outside network, so now, I connected laptop to directly ASA 5520 outside port with crossover cable.ASA Inside port connects to L3 switch. Webserver also connects to L3 switch. But still doesn't work.

We have a Cisco wireless infrastructure in place that includes a guest network with its own subnet that is a sub interface of the inside interface on our ASA 5520. There are no routes for it to be allowed access to the internal subnets. So it can only access the internet. This is primarily used by the public, but we have several non employee personnel that we only want to give internet access and force them to access the internal network through our clientless SSL vpn portal or through other internet facing internal resources such as webmail.I have done packet traces from within the ASA and the break appears to be there is no ACL allowing the traffic back into the network once the web resource replies to the request and the traffic is attempting to come back into the network from the web resource. Is that as clear as mud?
I know that this has to be a common problem and a way around this is to allow the guest wireless network access to the internal network but only for the select resources that they require. And that this can be done seemlessly by network specific routes and or alternate DNS entries, but I would like to keep this simple and just allow them to access the web resource, webmail and VPN, from the guest wireless using internet DNS servers without route trickery.

I am trying to build a remote vpn in ASA 5520 Software Version 8.3(1). I am using ASDM 6.3(1) for the configuration. I went through the SSL VPN wizard and did the configuration. I tried connecting to the ASA using anyconnect VPN and I could successfully connect the VPN. My home laptop takes an IP 192.168.60.21 (which I have defined in the wizard). Now my issue is, I can't access any office internal network from this laptop (none of the internal IP is ping ing even). Meanwhile, I could ping and rdp to this laptop(which is connectd by anyconnect VPN) from my office network. One thing I noticed is that when I give a traceroute to an internal IP from the laptop, the first hop goes to my home ISP router.

I have created a new sub-interface on our ASA 5520 for guest internet access.
My goal is to allow access to a few specific services hanging off some dmz interfaces on the same firewall and full unrestricted access to the internet only. Everything else should be out of bounds.
The order of the rules I plan to setup on the guest interface inbound are:
#1. <rules to allow access to specific services in the dmz>
#2. <block any ip access to the entire private network ip address space>
#3. <permit ip any any>
#1. These rules will give access to the guest user to services located in the dmz
#2. This rule will block all access to any services in the private ip address space (thus blocking access to all internal services)
#3. This rule is to allow access to any other services i.e. the internet.
Is this the best way to achieve my goal in the most secure way or is there a better way? i.e. is there a way to force the traffic by default to only go out the outside interface unless there is a specific rule allowing it go elsewhere?
(Of course Dynamic PAT will also be configured for traffic coming from the guest interface to the outside interface.)

I tried the solution posted at [URL] however it did not work on my ASA5505 8.4(2). I thought that it may be because I only have a single public address so the web server is responding to port forwarding through the one public IP already. looking in ASDM it appears to indicate that a configured access list is blocking the server from responding to the internal hosts.
object network Private_IP
host 192.168.1.15
object network Public_IP
host 1.1.1.1
object-group network internal_net
[code]....
Can I fix an access list (or something) to make this work or am I wishing for too much with only one public IP? This worked by default on my Netgear firewall.

It's been a while since I've done a lot with a PIX config so what is the best way to allow access for 2 IP addresses that need to RDP into a server here inside our network. They also wanted to have ports redirected, 3391 to 3389 and 3397 to 3389.

I am using a 6500 with FWSM. I need to separate an internal server/HQ network from 3 or 4 different external connections. The external networks do not necessarily need to be isolated from each other.I have the option of using a 3 layer model: L2 Access layer to SVIs on the Distribution layer and then L3 to the 6500.L2 Access, connecting directly to the 6500s, with the SVIs on the FWSM.Is it better to have the FWSM outside the MSFC or Inside? Am i correct in thinking that "inside" vs "outside" is determined by whether the SVI's are configured on the FWSM or the MSFC? is there any performance impact from having the FWSM doing the routing instead of the MSFC.If the vlans are all configured on the FWSM, what is the 6500 doing, other than providing switch ports?

I need to configure my ASA 5520 version 7.3 firewall to translate our SMTP server residing in local LAN to use different IP address from the outside interface which is used by all other computers to access Internet. Under NAT section, I have NATted this internal SMTP server with different IP address(eg x.x.x.1) and also translated the remaining IP addresses in the LAN to the outside interface(eg x.x.x.2)
my problem is, Whenever i check the header for message coming from the smtp server it shows that, the SMTP server is also translated by using the same outside interface public ip address(i.e x.x.x.2) which is used by other client machine to access internet instead of the x.x.x.1. How I can get my SMTP server to use separate IP and avoid to be blacklisted by some domain.

Currently i am having a scenario where i have setup RV042 and which is connected to Microsoft Forefront 2010. PPTP works fine only on rv042 subnet but i am not able to access the "internal" network of TMG.RV042 (172.16.1.1) ---> TMG [external] (172.16.1.2) ---> TMG [internal] (192.168.1.1) Is there any way through static route to access the TMG internal network through RV042 pptp server?

I have an ASA 5520 with a DMZ with private addresses that I SNAT to my outside network. From inside the DMZ I can reach servers by both the internal private IP and the public IP, except if the IP is from the server trying to connect. So, say I have server1 and server2. I can connect from server1 to server 2 with both public and private, but can't connect from server1 to server1' using the public IP. ASA logs show that packets are being denied due to land attack. DNS doctoring is not an option for me.

I have the syntax correct and thought process down right on a solution to allowing guest wireless users access to an internal webserver. (DMZ discussion aside)
We have an ASA5510 with interfaces setup as:
outside - 65.x.x.x address
inside - 172.20.1.2
guest_inet - 10.2.1.1
Internally clients resolve our website to 192.168.40.40 and that part works as it should. Clients outside of our network resolve our website to the correct external address (lets just call it 1.1.1.1). We have a NAT statement static (inside, outside) 1.1.1.1 192.168.40.40 netmask 255.255.255.255 and an ACL to permit tcp any host 1.1.1.1 eq www
Clients on our guest_int use an external DNS server and hence resolve our website to 1.1.1.1. However it seems traffic goes out and back in our outside interface and this connection never occurs.
What I'm wondering is the correct NAT statement / ACL to add that would allow our internal clients on the 10.2.1.x network to access our internal website. Would that be: static (inside,guest_inet) 1.1.1.1 192.168.40.40 netmask 255.255.255.255 ? Since there is already an ACL permitting port 80 traffic to 1.1.1.1 we should be taken care of on the ACL side of things, right?

Used a pair of ASA 5520s in HA to firewall the internet edge and to firewall traffic between internal security zones such as web and application layers? If so, is this best done using different security levels or contexts?
I'm thinking of using a routed context for securing the internet edge and then using seperate contexts for the web and application networks. Contexts will route via a L3 switch.

I have a small request. I have a setup where the internal users within the corporate network need to remote VPN into the VPN concentrator.
The setup is as below
inside
(202.x.x.x)VPN ASA 5520 ---------------- FW ------------- intenal network
----------------
outside
The problem is that the 10.0.0.0/8 internetl network establishes the connection via the outside interface. However, the return path is via the inside interface. But the vpn concentrator keeps showing next-hop not reachable for USP 500. Why does it show that when it has a route via the inside interface.
6|Jan 29 2013 13:44:38|110003: Routing failed to locate next hop for udp from NP Identity Ifc:202.x.x.x..29/62465 to outside:10.163..x.x/5892
Also, since we are trying to send traffic from outside to the inside interface, I tried to NAT the source ip i.e 202.x.x.x and left the source unaltered. But it still doesnt work.
I am wondering why is the ASA not routing via the inside interface and looks for the return traffic via the same outside interface the traffic entered in. The outside has a security-level of 0 and the isnide has a sec-level of 100.

I've just taken over a new network with a Cisco ASA5520. Everything is working fine, except I am being bombarded with 106001 alerts from a few internal hosts to one specific internal host. The description in general is "Inbound TCP connection denied from 10.1.0.1 to 10.1.0.5 - both of those are valid internal hosts and the TCP ports are also valid. I tried looking at the log and getting it me to tell me which rule was causing these alerts, but it just came back with 'It's not possible for these type of alerts'
- How is it possible for the ASA to even pick up on this when, in theory, the source host wouldn't be going near the ASA since it's on the same subnet?
- What might be causing this?
- How can I turn it off!! (I guess that'd be fixed by point 2)

For a config on a 2821 router with IOS 15.1?I've setup an internal web server and am able to acccess it from outside our network but not from inside (on a separate internal LAN - 192.168.10.0). When on the internal LAN - DNS points to the Public IP for the web server - so we'd need to route through the Public IP to access the web server.
What is the best way to allow access to the web server XX.XX.XX.231 from 192.168.10.0 network?

I have a client in a workgroup environment. They are a small company with perhaps twenty systems. Their infrastructure consists of a Dell Switch, a Cisco ASA-5505 which hands out the DHCP and a router. And that's that. They have been using an external IP as their DNS Server to get out to the Web. However, they now want to add an internal Linux-based DNS server. In looking through the ASA-5505 today I noticed a field for DNS enteries. Is this where the IP for this new internal DNS Server (in the secondary DNS field) would go?If so, would it be necessary to reboot the ASA-5505 for this change to take effect?

I running site-to-site IPsec VPN in Cisco 2811 IOS 12.4 both site. Here I encounter a problem to access server on Site A from Site B
Site A having Leased Line connected to router with Public IP. I have done static mapping 1 web server to Public IP (NAT). This to allow external users to access the server via Public IP. At the same time, users at Site B would need to access to same server via Internal IP since they have Site-to-Site VPN established. But once I done Static Mapping (NAT), user at Site B unable to access the server at Site A using its internal IP. But external user can access server via Public IP. What went wrong here. Do i need to add extra command to get this done?

One of my internal servers requires it to be available to the internet I am having a hard time allowing it to be NATed through my Ciscc 2801 router. It seems as though im missing something small. I have a server that I need to open up some ports on to allow access to the new internal Sharepoint server we're setting up. I've been having some issues getting the ports open like once I put the commands in and save them that server suddenly stops allowing outbound traffic. After looking at a few things I noticed while I was looking at the config file that the ASDM location is showing 2 IP's, both are the same as the server I'm trying to open ports for one being the private IP and the other is the public IP I'm trying to use. Is this the reason I'm having problems when I try to open those ports to my server? Do I need to use both a different private and public IP for this server so I can get my ports to work? The programmers selected these IP's so if I need to change them I'll let them know in case they need to make changes for the Sharepoint setup. This is on an ASA 5505.

I'm adding router and a server for the guest interface and what I'm trying to accomplish now is the following: ASA 5505 > Airport Extreme with a public static IP (69.xx.xx.6), handling DHCP and NAT > Mac Server as DNS Server.Right now, when I connect to my Airport Extreme with any computer, I don't have internet. I don't understand what's wrong. My DNS Server has a reserved IP address: 192.168.226.2 and it's pointing to itself and forwarding the ISP DNS servers, the Airport Extreme is handling the DNS Server IP and the ISP DNS Server IP but I can't connect to the internet from the server. Everything works properly from the outside, but if I get my Mail server (on port 443) from the internal network (192.168.1.xxx) there 'verse. This configuration is called Nat inside-to-inside is done by default by some SOHO routers(such as the TPLINK from 25 euros) but Cisco did not succeed.
