I am configuring an ASA5540 firewall for a client, only difference to usual being that it is to run in Transparent mode. I have looked through for an EAL4 transparent firewall config guide but found nothing and therefore assumed that the usual one would be used. The clients security bod has now come back and insisted MAC filtering should be used but I can find no reference of this anywhere. Does MAC filtering is required to make a transparent box EAL4 compliant and if so where I can find documentation supporting this?
I m trying to set my friewall in my network. The network is very simple. I have my router in 192.168.16.1 255.255.255.0 (mac-address 58-98-35-2a-4c-39) I have my switch in 192.168.16.26 255.255.255.0 (mac-address 00-19-99-5d-1f-43) and i have my firewall ASA between the router and the switch in 192.168.16.250 255.255.255.0 (mac-address 64-9e-f3-ba-28-c9)
So i need to configure 3 interface in my ASA. - OUTSIE e0/0(I call it INTERNET) - INSIDE e0/1(I call it LAN) - MANGEMENT m0/0(I call it MANAGEMENT)
But with this config when I plug the firewall, i dont have access to internet anymore.
I'm trying to track down the installation and configuration procedures for the common criteria EAL4 evaluated ASA5510 but not having any joy.
The ASA Release 8.3.2 certification report [URL] identifies the required configuration documentation as the "Cisco Adaptive Security Appliances (ASA) Firewall and Virtual Private Network (VPN) Platform Common Criteria Operational User Guidance and Preparative Procedures" but I can not find any reference to this on the Cisco web site.
So far I've only been able to locate the proceedures for the older 7.0 release. [URL]
How to locate the correct documentation needed to configure an ASA5510 to achieve the common criteria EAL4 evaluated configuration.
I'm trying to install an ASA 5510 transparent firewall using ASA version 8.4(3)9 but I don't understand how traffic will ever pass through my firewall if both interfaces are on the same sub net(V lan) as the host and it's default gateway? The reason I'm doing this is were installing UAG (or Direct Access) and the UAG appliance need to have public IP's but still be behind a firewall (see attached diagram).
Looking at the documentation (which all seems to be for 5505's running 8.2) it almost seems like i need to have the transparent firewall 'in-line' to the ISP router?, but this router services another IP address range on another v lan for other (routed) firewalls (not shown on diagram) so putting it 'in-line' is not possible. Surely this can't be the case can it? If not how is it supposed to be cabled up and configured so packets go through the firewall?
I am familiar with the PIX and ASA's. We have two Cisco 6509's with a FWSM installed in both. Our network is shown in the diagram. We use Blue Coat Packetshapers and Barracuda Proxy appliances. I plan on setting up HSRP on both 6509's for traffic coming from our ISP Cisco 2811's as well as use HSRP for our DMZ and internal network. I would like to setup the firewalls for statefull failover. We will be using PAT for our internal users and one-to-one static NAT for our DMZ.
Is it better to setup the firewall's as transparent or routed?
Since the firewall is built into the switch, how do I insert the Barracuda proxies? I can configure them as transparent or routed proxies.
I'm integrating a Cisco ASA5505 with a Websense proxy. I have a configuration setup where we have four routers which are used for Internet access. There are two VLAN's - Guest and Private. What I would like to achieve is making the use of available bandwidth by load distribution via GLBP, and filtering users web traffic. Two routers will be used for a GLBP group in one VLAN, and the other two routers will be used for GLBP in another VLAN.The users are connected to a Cisco 2960 switch and are in their respective VLAN's. I'm planning a 802.1q trunk to a Cisco ASA from the 2960 switch, carrying both VLAN's.What I would like to know is if there is a CSC module (or similar) which has Websense installed on it, and if it is possible to setup the ASA5505 in transparent mode to filter the traffic in this way? Hopefully this would allow multiple users to take advantage of the additional bandwidth, and not be restricted by using a traditional proxy setup which where all web traffic would be originating from a single MAC address.
i have a ASA5510 in the office, that already configured 3 context, namely, admin, user, server.in the server context, the last running config was not saved, and there was a power trip last friday night. 1 of the sub interface was affected, and i need to recreate that interface.I am getting the below error, it only allow me to do changes those pre-defined interface.how to I create extra sub interface?
I have one firewall need to be configured in transparent mode. I have inside and outside router. What is the configuration of transparent firewall ASA8.2. I didn't find the configuration on Cisco site.
I am trying to set the PIX firewall to transparent mode. After I set it to transparent firewall, I allowed all icmp, tcp, udp traffics.Currently, any devices in the inside network can get the ip automatically from DHCP server in the outside network but cannot ping to any servers in the outside network either access the internet.Do I need additional confiration on the firewall?
Here's the configuration:
PIX Version 7.0(1) firewall transparent names ! interface Ethernet0 [Code]....
I want to configure an ASA 5505 in transparent mode (7.x). Somehow, I got it to work.. but i need some kind of step by step description. I just want to connect it with outside on a route .. inside in my LAN. Its working now with one ASA. But in the Web Interface the Interfaces inside and outside are down.. but its working.
We've in our company a Cisco Asa 5510 v8.4(3), Asdm 6.4(7) and a SSM-CSC-10-K9. The firewall is in transparent mode. I get an exchange 2003 SP2 server behind. When users trying to send mailing lists with many recipients (above 300), the Exchange server didn't send these mails. I'm pretty sure that this problem come from the ASA Firewall, because when I plug my server directly on my Internet Connection, the mailing list is sent. I've search on the web, and disable "ESMTP Inspection", but it didn't work. [code]
I have a question regarding transparent firewalls using BVIs.Based from the diagram above, ASA1 is in Transparent mode.Port Gi0 is assigned BVI-1 and port Gi1 is assigned BVI-2. Is it possible for network 1 to communicate with network 2 ?The traffic will be passing through Firewall towards the router, The router will do the routing and then forward it back to the firewall then towards network 2?I am thinking of making port Gi2 of the firewall a trunk and use subinterfaces in order to forward BVI headers to the router.
I have a strange issue which happened to me last weekend with two ASA 5515X on version 8.6(1)2. There was a planned power shutdown which only affected the primary firewall. Failover was configured and running successfully. The configuration was also saved after every change made. After power was shut and primary firewall went off the secondary took over like it should but unfortunately all configuration was gone. We immediately powered on the primary again but also this one lost the configuration.
While reconfiguring the firewall we ran into another problem. The devices won't pair although it was the correct configuration. After three times removing and adding the same failover configuration the devices accepted the failover and worked together again.
I went through the bug toolkit and white papers regarding ASA 5515x and this particular version but were not able to find anything.
I had a working vpn configuration between a local and a remote router; the remote router is not under my administration. Now I moved the vpn termination from my side to an ASA5540 software version 8.0(3). The tunnel is up but there is no reachability. The "show crypto ipsec sa" on the ASA shows encapsulated packets but NO decapsulated packets! Routing and no_nat are properly configured.
I have an ASA- 5585X (v.8.2.4) directly connected to an upstream 6509, which is running EIGRP. I configured the ASA for EIGRP with same AS# and network numbers and no auto-summary. Here are the log messages I got:
Mar 8 15:11:08: %PIM-5-NBRCHG: neighbor 188.8.131.52 UP on interface Vlan150 (vrf default) Mar 8 15:11:08: %PIM-5-DRCHG: DR change from neighbor 0.0.0.0 to 184.108.40.206 on interface Vlan150 (vrf default) Mar 8 15:11:11: %DUAL-5-NBRCHANGE: IP-EIGRP(0) 1: Neighbor 220.127.116.11 (Vlan150) isup: new adjacencyMar 8 16:16:08: %DUAL-5-NBRCHANGE: IP-EIGRP(0) 1: Neighbor 18.104.22.168 (Vlan150) isup: new adjacency Mar 8 16:18:54: %DUAL-5-NBRCHANGE: IP-EIGRP(0) 1: Neighbor 22.214.171.124 (Vlan150) is down: K-value mismatch
I lost my SSH connection to the upstream 6509 and couldn't get it back. Luckily I didn't lose my ASDM connection to the ASA, so I disabled EIGRP and went to look at the logs on the 6509.
What causes a K-value mismatch, and how to I rectify the situation?
I have this 2x ASA5540 firewall and notice the it is configured with a standby ip. The firewall is run in Active/Passive mode. However, the standby ip of this firewall is not point to the secondary firewall and vice versa for the primary firewall. [code]
1) May i know how is this configuration valid in the first place? I have checked through the configuration. None of the configuration is related to this ip address.
2) Can we remove this standby ip address on both the firewall and correct to the correct primary and seconadary ip address in both firewall?
3) We tried to use this ip address but cannot be used ? Is it related to the configuration of the standby ip address.Do note that the ping to this ip address x.x.x.120 is unreachable.
i have two CAT3750 need to place in L3, and it supposed that used as L3 switches by SVI for L2 routing, and I want to these two configured as redundancy by HSRP. but now I can only have one ASA5540 to connects these of L3 switches.
so, here is my questions:
1. does ASA5540 support multi vlan?
2. does it support spanning tree protocol?
3. if I've choiced to use trunking between two L3 switches, does it can pass through HSRP hello msg?
ASA 505 is connected to layer 3 switch.ASA is in transparent mode.Layer 3 switch has SVI Vlan 20 and also it has dhcp server for vlan 20.PC connected to transparent switch is not able to get the IP address from layer switch.I have config the ACL on outside interface of ASA to allow the DHCP reply coming from Switch. When i assign static IP to PC connected to port eth0/1 of ASA it works fine. [code]
Windows IIS server configured behind a Cisco ASA 5540 listening on port 443 currently. Access-list and static translation configured. I have been ask to redirect all port 80 calls to port 443 for this web site only at the firewall. I have suggested moving it behind our content switch with negative results. Can we do this at the firewall level? how to accomplish the redirect for a single site. 8.2.4 is current code
I upgraded our ASA5540 to 8.4, THEN noted the increased requirements for Memory. I purchased the 2Gig upgrade, but when installing in the Primary unit today, noted that there were 4 slots. Slots 1/3 had 512Mb modules, so I installed the 2 x 1Gig modules in slots 2/4.
The ASA5540 came up clean, and it "sees" the entire 3Gig of memory.
My question: Is this a SUPPORTED configuration? All documentation I have read only mentions 2Gig of memory. Also, If I had FOUR x 1Gig memory modules, would the ASA5540 support the 4Gigs of memory?
We have ASA 5540 with 8.2 SW. We are trying to download a file (3 MB pdf) from https session which fails if done behind the firewall. In case, the client bypasses firewall, the file gets downloaded as usuall. Interesting thing here to note is that when client is behind the firewall, its takes a long time to download the file and the file size always 312 Bytes, of course its a corrupt file.
I have requirement received from one of my customer. the part number given as ASA5540-AIP40-K8, same time requesting for addition of another 4Port GE Module (i believe its SSM-4GE Module). Is any option to add this module in to the above specified model (ASA5540-AIP40-K8).
As per my understanding the ASA5540 have the option to add 1 additional module only, so if we AIP-SSM module, we don't have any free slot left with to add another SSM-4GE Module in the firewall.
i am not getting even the option to add SSM-4GE in the ASA5540-AIP40-K8
I am migrating firewall fortinet to ASA5540 with inside (192.0.0.0/24), dmz (192.168.0.0/24), and outside (x.x.x.x), but the users of inside network gain access to the aplication for two ways: the first way is trough routing between inside and dmz, for example 126.96.36.199 to 192.168.0.20, and the another way is trough static nat between inside and dmz for example 188.8.131.52 to 184.108.40.206 (192.168.0.20 static nat). Is posible in Cisco configure that? because when i configure only firewall route the first way is OK, but when i add the second way only nat is work!
I have an inside network using PAT to one outside address. Our DNS server is on another local, but outside address. I can't get the inside network to successfully get addresses.I have another inside address that just uses the wirewall and gets addresses just fine from the same server.I have the box checked in ASDN that enables DHCP on the inside interface and points to the correct DHCP server,PAT service is working properly if I use a hard coded address for a machine on the inside network. This is an ASA5540 with 8.3(2)
My Expertise with Cisco ASA is Very less. I have observed Input errors in a Couple of Interfaces in Cisco ASA 5540 Firewall. [code] I need to Clear the Input errors on this particular Interface. Will Clear interface GigabitEthernet 0/0 will work?
I am attempting to FTP to a remote site through a IPSEC tunnel. When I am transfering large files the ASA5540 is showing syslog errors stating "connection timeout". What I think is happening is after about 1 hour the firewall is closing the connection control port for the FTP session and neither end is notified so eventually the transfer is stopped. What do I need to modify in the FW to accommodate these larger files?
