I have an asa 5520.  How would I configure my dedicated management interface to be able to route off subnet while the firewall is in transparent mode?

I am familiar with the PIX and ASA's.  We have two Cisco 6509's with a FWSM installed in both.  Our network is shown in the diagram.  We use Blue Coat Packetshapers and Barracuda Proxy appliances.  I plan on setting up HSRP on both 6509's for traffic coming from our ISP Cisco 2811's as well as use HSRP for our DMZ and internal network.  I would like to setup the firewalls for statefull failover.  We will be using PAT for our internal users and one-to-one static NAT for our DMZ. 

Is it better to setup the firewall's as transparent or routed?
 
Since the firewall is built into the switch, how do I insert the Barracuda proxies?  I can configure them as transparent or routed proxies.

I have two ASA 5520 with 4 Giga interfaces and 1 management interface.
 
I need to use 4 interfaces four data traffic
 
1- Inside
2- Outside
3- dmz-1
4- dmz-2
 
The remaining will be the management interface only.How can I configure the Statefull failover and Management?
 
1- I used the management0/0 for The stateful failover.
 
2- I used gig 0 for outside
 
3- I used gig 1 for inside
 
4- I used gig 2 for dmz-1
 
5- I divided the gig 3 to two sub interfaces
a- gig0/3.1 for dmz-2
b- gig0/3.2 for Management and I defined it as a management-only

have a Cisco ASA that I am trying to configure in a unique way, I want it to perform a variety of tasks;
 
VPN SSL
VPN Tunnels
Firewall Inside to Outside via versa
 
But the difficult task, is creating a DMZ with devices that are assigned fully routed IP addresses from our ISP directly, these are H323 and SIP devices that cannot use NAT, and must have a fully routed IP address assigned to them.
 
Obviously the problem I have with the Firewall in its default routed mode, is that it wont allow me to overlap IP addresses on the outside interface with the DMZ interface.
 
Could the Firewall be configured for Transparent mode between Outside and DMZ, but Routed mode between Outside and Inside?
 
Eth0/0: 10.0.0./24 (inside)
Eth0/1: 190.0.0.0/24 (dmz)
Eth0/2: 190.0.0.0/24 (outside)

But could the new Cisco ASA with the latest firmware and model be ale to do this with 1 physical firewall?

We are currently looking at design models for a Multi-Tenancy solution.The firewall layer will be 2 X ASA's running 9.X to take advantage of VPN's in multiple context mode and mixed L3 and L2 contexts.
 
We will be delivering services through multiple L3 contexts (between 2 and 5 L3 contexts for services) and 1 transparent context for customers infrastructure  who will then have virtual firewalls for NAT's and VPN's etc withing their own environment.
 
I am not very experienced with IPS so my query is; if we were to get an IPS license for both ASA's how would the IPS fit in, can we use it to inspect traffic for all the L3 contexts and the transparent context?

I have a need to manage the 5505 outside of the 2 interfaces however I see it documented that Management access is only via the data path interface. This won't work for me because there will be NO management access on the data network being bridged through the firewall. Is there any option outside of going to routed mode or moving to the 5510?

We have a small cisco 1800 series workgroup router that seperates our network from the outside world.  The data coming into our network goes into the router on interface fa0/1 and comes out on interface fa0/0.  fa0/0 is split into 2 sub-interfaces (fa0/0.2 and 0/0.3).  These sub-interfaces correspond to a desktop and server vlan on our network.  The workgroup router is connected to a 3560G trunk port (we'll call it switch 1) and switch 1 connects to another 3560G (we'll call it switch 2). Recently I was asked to add another layer of security to our network by installing an ASA 5510 firewall and forcing certain types of traffic to authenticate using their domain credentials for our network.  The firewall was set up between the router and switch 1 in transparent, multi-context mode.  There are 2 security contexts, 1 for the desktop vlan and 1 for the server.  Both have the same security settings applied to them since we want the same behavior regardless of whether they are trying to access the servers or the workstations.

Cisco Firewall :: 5515-X Management Access To Transparent Multi-mode Security Contexts

I have setup a 5515-X in transparent multi-mode and setup 5 security contexts with inside and outside ports, one admin and 4 others. The problem I have run into is setting up a management IP for each context. On one of my other transparent firewalls in production we were able to apply an IP to the security context (not interface) however the new firewall is running the latest software and this same functionality is not available. The only options for IP in context mode is IP AUDIT. So my next plan was to create sub-interfaces of the management interface and assign one to each context however the 5515-x does not allow sub-interfaces on the management interface. How I setup a management IP on each context?
 
Another interesting thing i read is that the managment IP assigned to a context  (if i could figure out how to set it up), has to be in the same subnet as the data interface which if fine but it also says that the management interface should not be connected to the same switch as the data interface because of MAC address table update issues, meaning that i could not use a sub-interface of one of the already configured context ports.

I have a brand new ASA5512-X running 8.6.1, and am trying to do an initial setup using the Quick Start Guide that came with it.  However, the Management Interface is not working.  I have a PC connected and set to use DHCP, but the port is not active. I connected a console cable and can see in the config that the interface is shutdown.  So I set it to active, and the port is now active, but is not giving out a DHCP address as the guide says it should.I would like to use the ASDM Startup Wizard to configure this device, so how do I get it to work the way the instructions say it should?

So I have a cluster asa 5515X with management interface. i Would like to be able to connect to any of the member of my cluster on management interface, so i would like to fix a different ip on management interface on each of my node ip 92 and 91. I think it is the only way to make asa firmware update to access local flash on each node.

I try to ASDM and get "Unable to launch device manager from 172.16.252.100"
 
I think I am missing something. Software is 8.4(5) and running in Transparent Mode.
 
Inside/Outside are in bridge-group 1. No BVI is configured as we will be using Management0/0 for access.

I seem to get conflicting information on using the Management port as a regular routed interface on the ASA5510..The management interface can be used for the traffic that passes through the firewall as well. The Security Plus License for the ASA 5510 is required in order to use the management0/0 port as a regular interface. With a base license on the 5510, the management0/0 port cannot be used as a regular interface.
 
I believe that I saw another post that mentioned it was part of the standard IOS if you had a later version.

We have several pairs of ASA5510s in failover A/P mode, some running 8.3(2) and others running 8.4(1).
 
e0/0 = outside
e0/1 = inside
m0/0 = management
 
The problem we're having is we can't get anything to route out of the management interface unless we put in a static route at least to the subnet level. For example, we want syslog traffic to exit out m0/0 to our syslog server 10.71.211.79. Our 'gateway of last resort' points to the next hop out e0/0, and a second static route with a higher metric and a more distinct network space is for m0/0 as in:
 
route outside 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.49.129 1route management 10.72.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.72.232.94 10
 
This doesn't work, and ASDM loggin gives this error: ".....Routing failed to locate next hop for udp from NP Identity Ifc:10.72.232.89/514 to management:10.72.211.79/514"
 
If I put in a more granular subnet route, or a host route of the syslog server it works, such as:
 
route management 10.72.211.0 255.255.255.0 10.72.232.94 10   <------------- this works
 
route management 10.72.211.79 255.255.255.255 10.72.232.94 10   <------------- this works too
 
Why won't a static route for 10.71.0.0 255.255.0.0 work in this case?
 
We are going to have numerous hosts access and be sent messages though the management interface of these ASAs, and it would be very burdonsome to have to add a host, or even a subnet, route for every one. I've removed all static routes and tried to rely on EIGRP, but that doesn't work. I also had to put 'passive-interface management' under the EIGRP for this to work.
 
Here is the pertinant ASA config concerning syslog, routing, and interfaces:
 
interface Ethernet0/0 nameif outside security-level 0 ip address 192.168.49.140 255.255.255.128 standby 192.168.49.141 !interface Ethernet0/1 nameif inside security-level 100 ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 255.255.255.128 standby

After I have upgraded our ASA 5510 to 8.4.2 I have problem with the management interface.Our former firmware 8.2.3 had no problem using the management interface as a DMZ zone, but after we upgraded to 8.4.2 we can't make it work.The interface and the protocol is up, when I type: show interface.But when I ping the interface from a computer connectet to the interface, nothing happens.
Even the logging shows nothing.

2. I have 2 WLC configured in Active/Active mode connected in Trunk mode (L2 Port-Channel) connected with 6509 switch
 
3. On switch side i have configured the port as Trunk
 
4. L3 SVI for wireless users are created in 6509 switch (attached the diagram).
 
I would like to introduce a Cisco ASA 5520 firewall with AIp-SSM module so that all wirelees traffic can be inspected.
 
The issue is: Without changing any configuration in the network (switch & WLC) is it possible to introduce the firewall?

I would like to configure an ASA5512-X in firewall transparent mode, but I am having trouble getting ASDM to lauch when I do.
 
I have created a BVI interface with an IP address, and I hve enabled the mangement interface, but ASDM does not lauch when I enter the IP adress of the BVI I created.
 
Apprently you need to use the bridge-group command to assign an interfce to a bridge group. When I enter this command at the (config-if) prompt for Management 0/0, this command is not recognized.
 
What are the general steps for configuring the management interface to be able to launch ASDM in transparent mode?

I am configuring an ASA5540 firewall for a client, only difference to usual being that it is to run in Transparent mode. I have looked through for an EAL4 transparent firewall config guide but found nothing and therefore assumed that the usual one would be used.The clients security bod has now come back and insisted MAC filtering should be used but I can find no reference of this anywhere. Does MAC filtering is required to make a transparent box EAL4 compliant and if so where I can find documentation supporting this?

I'm trying to install an ASA 5510 transparent firewall using ASA version 8.4(3)9 but I don't understand how traffic will ever pass through my firewall if both interfaces are on the same sub net(V lan) as the host and it's default gateway? The reason I'm doing this is were installing UAG (or Direct Access) and the UAG appliance need to have public IP's but still be behind a firewall (see attached diagram).
 
Looking at the documentation (which all seems to be for 5505's running 8.2) it almost seems like i need to have the transparent firewall 'in-line' to the ISP router?, but this router services another IP address range on another v lan for other (routed) firewalls (not shown on diagram) so putting it 'in-line' is not possible. Surely this can't be the case can it? If not how is it supposed to be cabled up and configured so packets go through the firewall?

I'm integrating a Cisco ASA5505 with a Websense proxy. I have a configuration setup where we have four routers which are used for Internet access. There are two VLAN's - Guest and Private. What I would like to achieve is making the use of available bandwidth by load distribution via GLBP, and filtering users web traffic. Two routers will be used for a GLBP group in one VLAN, and the other two routers will be used for GLBP in another VLAN.The users are connected to a Cisco 2960 switch and are in their respective VLAN's. I'm planning a 802.1q trunk to a Cisco ASA from the 2960 switch, carrying both VLAN's.What I would like to know is if there is a CSC module (or similar) which has Websense installed on it, and if it is possible to setup the ASA5505 in transparent mode to filter the traffic in this way? Hopefully this would allow multiple users to take advantage of the additional bandwidth, and not be restricted by using a traditional proxy setup which where all web traffic would be originating from a single MAC address.

We have a block of addresses assigned to us by our ISP.  We need to assign one of these addresses to a vendor we use for traffic to one of their internal devices.  Lets say the address we gave them out of that block of addresses is 1.2.3.4
 
How do I add that address to the outside interface so that when traffic s sent to it that the traffic actually gets to the ASA as right now when we send traffic to that address it doean't make it to the ASA.
