Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5510 / Management Interface Stopped Working After Upgrade?
Jun 24, 2012
After I have upgraded our ASA 5510 to 8.4.2 I have problem with the management interface. Our former firmware 8.2.3 had no problem using the management interface as a DMZ zone, but after we upgraded to 8.4.2 we can't make it work. The interface and the protocol is up, when I type: show interface. But when I ping the interface from a computer connectet to the interface, nothing happens.
Even the logging shows nothing.
I am having issues with the ASA 5510 management interface. I can't communicate with this interface. It is showing DOWN/DWON even if I type NO SHUT several times.
My existing config is as follows our-asa-01# sh run Saved ASA Version 7.2(5) hostname our-asa-01 names dns-guard interface Ethernet0/0 [code]....
I seem to get conflicting information on using the Management port as a regular routed interface on the ASA5510..The management interface can be used for the traffic that passes through the firewall as well. The Security Plus License for the ASA 5510 is required in order to use the management0/0 port as a regular interface. With a base license on the 5510, the management0/0 port cannot be used as a regular interface.
I believe that I saw another post that mentioned it was part of the standard IOS if you had a later version.
We have several pairs of ASA5510s in failover A/P mode, some running 8.3(2) and others running 8.4(1).
e0/0 = outside e0/1 = inside m0/0 = management
The problem we're having is we can't get anything to route out of the management interface unless we put in a static route at least to the subnet level. For example, we want syslog traffic to exit out m0/0 to our syslog server 10.71.211.79. Our 'gateway of last resort' points to the next hop out e0/0, and a second static route with a higher metric and a more distinct network space is for m0/0 as in:
This doesn't work, and ASDM loggin gives this error: ".....Routing failed to locate next hop for udp from NP Identity Ifc:10.72.232.89/514 to management:10.72.211.79/514"
If I put in a more granular subnet route, or a host route of the syslog server it works, such as:
route management 10.72.211.0 255.255.255.0 10.72.232.94 10 <------------- this works
route management 10.72.211.79 255.255.255.255 10.72.232.94 10 <------------- this works too
Why won't a static route for 10.71.0.0 255.255.0.0 work in this case?
We are going to have numerous hosts access and be sent messages though the management interface of these ASAs, and it would be very burdonsome to have to add a host, or even a subnet, route for every one. I've removed all static routes and tried to rely on EIGRP, but that doesn't work. I also had to put 'passive-interface management' under the EIGRP for this to work.
Here is the pertinant ASA config concerning syslog, routing, and interfaces:
we recently upgraded our ASA 5510 active/standby cluster from ASA Version 8.3.2 to 8.4.1(11). Unfortunately the standby ASA is now crashing a few seconds after the configuration was synchronized from the active ASA.
Also completely disabling HA, bringing the default config to standby ASA again and activating HA afterwards did not work. Also tried through the Wizard provided by ASDM to be sure to have no errors with requirements.
How to solve this without doing a downgrade back to 8.3.2. ?
I have a 6 month old RV042 with the newest firmware (v4.2.1.02). Over the weekend I configured the DMZ which after a lot of trial and error, was able to get working. Prior to configuring DMZ, I was able to log in with remote management. However now remote management no longer works. I've tried:
- Rebooting the router - Turning the firewall off/on - Turning remote management off/on - Changing the remote management port
The only step I haven't taken is resetting the router back to factory defaults and trying to reconfigure it all again. This router is so finicky I have no faith I'd be able to get my current functionality back again.
I build a Config with a DMZ,INSIDE and OUTSIDE Interface. My Plan is to use the IP-Address of the OUTSIDE Interface with PORT to setup a HTTP Server In the DMZ
But my Config doesn't work. And I have no Plan why .....
The Inside Interface have to work normal. The Traffic to the Internet is TRiggert from Inside with Dynamic PAT
ciscoasa(config)# exit ciscoasa# show run : Saved : ASA Version 8.4(1)
I have an ASA 5510 attached to 2 internal networks. Everything is working except communications between the 2 internal interfaces.I can ping the FW from either interface and I can ping hosts on both networks from the CLI but can't get any traffic to pass.I'd like to open the connection to all traffic. [code]
I upgraded my 6509-Es (sup720s) to 122-33.SXJ3 and now the banner command can not end when I include the ^ at the end. It seems to be stuck in text edit mode IE and usually hitting enter following that brings me back to command but it doesn't do anything but bring me to the next line.
We have a Service Policy rule setup on our 5510 for SMTP traffic.
Problem is, this week someone sent a larger email 20+mb to dozens of recipeints and the outside interface was hitting 10mb, which is not what I would have expected with this rule in place, so I'm questioning the configuration. We know it was email because I disabled the server that receices our outbound mail to apply a signature and the traffic dropped immediately.
Firmware version 1.3.3.5 STAR 9202 Chipset 64 MB DRAM 8MB Flash DOS, Block WAN Rq, Remote mgmt all OFF IPSec Tunnel none used
[code].....
Every day or so the Router becomes unresponsive to the HTTP mgmt interface, as well as it no longer offers DHCP services.then this happens the only remedy is to power reboot.
Everything comes back online just fine, however, the LOGS are initilaized so no data to figure out what`s going on.My next step is to setuo a syslog server and have the logs copied out.( No, I have no Torrents running at all, but I do have several devices like AppleTV, PS3s etc that run streaming Video plus I have the SPA3102 )
I have a brand new ASA5512-X running 8.6.1, and am trying to do an initial setup using the Quick Start Guide that came with it. However, the Management Interface is not working. I have a PC connected and set to use DHCP, but the port is not active. I connected a console cable and can see in the config that the interface is shutdown. So I set it to active, and the port is now active, but is not giving out a DHCP address as the guide says it should.I would like to use the ASDM Startup Wizard to configure this device, so how do I get it to work the way the instructions say it should?
How does one allow /31 mask for an management interface on an ASA5540 using version 8.3(1)?
I need to configure a 192.168.x.y /31 on the management 0/0 interface of a ASA5540 and it is providing me with the following error:ERROR: /31 mask is not allowed
I have a misanderstand about management interface configuration in cluster. So I have a cluster asa 5515X with management interface. i Would like to be able to connect to any of the member of my cluster on management interface, so i would like to fix a different ip on management interface on each of my node ip 92 and 91. I think it is the only way to make asa firmware update to access local flash on each node.
my config
interface GigabitEthernet0/1 channel-group 1 mode active no nameif
I can no longer SSH to a primary active firewall. It had all of a sudden stopped working. However I am able to SSH to the secondary standby firewall without any problems. I did try to regenerate the RSA key on the primary fw, but still unable to connect. The only way I can connect to it is by using telnet.
I ran the "show asp table socket" command and I'm seeing port 22 listening on the primary IP address (not the standby), foreign address is 0.0.0.0:*. I did a packet capture on port 22 on the inside inside, seeing my request hit the fw and then right away a reset back from the fw.
version 8.2.(5) model ASA5520
I'm hitting a bug in the software version I'm running? Or what else can I check before rebooting the primary fw?
We care currently using an ASA5505 as our firewall and redirecting web traffic to a S160 Iron port. Recently the web filter stopped working and the only way to get filtering again is to reset the redirection.
1. Is there any available log information to find out about the WCCP process and maybe way it stops?
2. Are there keep alive packets or anything of that natural between the ASA and Ironport?
I've got an ASA 5505 running 6.3 I've connected the management interface to our management vlan (which contains switch IPs, ilo's etc)Is there a way to allow access to this vlan from another?
I have some clarifications regarding ASA firewall, it can be support bandwidth management and content security at the same time. we are looking for below features in ASA5510.
IP/Policy based bandwidth management.Controll the bandwidth and allocate the bandwidth to specified users or servers.Content Security. If not, which device I need to set for Internet Bandwidth Management and content security.
We have a 5510 ASA that was running 8.0 and were using it for clientless VPN access. Through this, we published bookmarks that linked to an internal Microsoft 2008R2 RemoteApps server, which users logged on to and then launched RemoteApps (basically being RDP sessions to apps on the server). All worked fine until we upgraded to 8.4 over the weekend and we now can't launch the RemoteApps. We can still login through the ASA, still click a bookmark to take us to the RemoteApps server's webpage, still then authenticate against the domain fine and still see the published apps. The problem now is when we launch the apps we get "this computer can't connect to the remote computer" messages and the app fails to launch. Nothing has changed on the RemoteApp server side, only the upgrade to 8.4.
We have a small cisco 1800 series workgroup router that seperates our network from the outside world. The data coming into our network goes into the router on interface fa0/1 and comes out on interface fa0/0. fa0/0 is split into 2 sub-interfaces (fa0/0.2 and 0/0.3). These sub-interfaces correspond to a desktop and server vlan on our network. The workgroup router is connected to a 3560G trunk port (we'll call it switch 1) and switch 1 connects to another 3560G (we'll call it switch 2). Recently I was asked to add another layer of security to our network by installing an ASA 5510 firewall and forcing certain types of traffic to authenticate using their domain credentials for our network. The firewall was set up between the router and switch 1 in transparent, multi-context mode. There are 2 security contexts, 1 for the desktop vlan and 1 for the server. Both have the same security settings applied to them since we want the same behavior regardless of whether they are trying to access the servers or the workstations.
I am trying to upgrade a Cisco ASA over an IPSEC VPN tunnel. My FTP server is on the remote side of the VPN tunnel but I am initiating connections from the inside interface of the firewall. I am currently managing the Firewall over the VPN via it's inside interface (using the management-access inside) command. When I try and update via FTP, the connection is going straight out the outside interface (and not across the VPN tunnel) I have tried upgrading via TFTP but it keeps stopping randomly with (unspecified error) I normally upgrade via FTP though but it's not working in this instance. Essentially what I am asking, is is there an equivalent command for FTP that there is for TFTP: tftp-server interface ip anyconnect I need the connections to originate from the inside interface so they traverse the VPN. I am running 7.2.3?
I am unable to see 4th interface on my firewall i.e fastether0/3 on my firewall ASA 5510.
Below is the output. ciscoasa# sh int ip br Interface IP-Address OK? Method Status Protocol Ethernet0/0 x.x.x.x YES CONFIG up up Ethernet0/1 x.x.x.x YES CONFIG up up Ethernet0/2 unassigned YES unset administratively down down Internal-Control0/0 127.0.1.1 YES unset up up Internal-Data0/0 unassigned YES unset up up Management0/0 192.168.1.1 YES CONFIG up up
1-Can I do this upgrade directly? i have single ASA 5510 running 8.0.4, i want to upgrade it to 8.2.1, is it as simple as copying IOS and setting boot sequence?
2-I am copying IOS 8.2.1 from my another 5520 ASA, and installing it on 5510 ASA, will it cause any issues? just checking if there is any secret keys involved that can cause issue? (As far hardware req is concerned i have checked my both ASA matches Memory/Flash requirements)
Have an ASA 5510. Setting up a new DMZ zone for wireless and it will only have Internet access. What are the steps so that users on this new DMZ subnet can VPN into the Outside interface on the same ASA?
I am using Cisco ASA5510 Firewall in my network. The IOS is Software Version 8.0(5)24. The Flash is 512 MB and DRAM 1GB on the ASA. I want to upgrade the IOS on my Firewall and use the Latest one.
Also, what are the IOS details for upgradation. The Firewall is serving both the VPN and FW Rules.
