Cisco Firewall :: ASA5540 Can't Get DHCP Service From Outside To Inside Network
Jun 13, 2012
I have an inside network using PAT to one outside address. Our DNS server is on another local, but outside address. I can't get the inside network to successfully get addresses.I have another inside address that just uses the wirewall and gets addresses just fine from the same server.I have the box checked in ASDN that enables DHCP on the inside interface and points to the correct DHCP server,PAT service is working properly if I use a hard coded address for a machine on the inside network. This is an ASA5540 with 8.3(2)
I have a asa 5510 vpn client groups configured and connected to the internal network DHCP server stops giving network service dhcp and the network goes down.
We've just started with the ASA 5505. We do run a DHCP server on the inside interface, so it is in the same VLAN 1 as all of the clients. However, we cannot get it to work.We can't use DHCP Relay, as the ASA 5505 only allows to relay to DHCP servers in a different subnet.Or do we have to move the DHCP server to a different subnet. If so, how would we configure that scenario?
I have a PIX 515E that I want to use to as a border between my internet connection and my Cisco AIR1131AG. I have configured the PIX to have the outside interface as a dhcp client which gets its dynamic IP address from the cable modem. the AP is connected to the E1 inside interface. Now I could see the E1 interface from the arp table from the AP but I cannot ping it. From the firewall I don't see the ARP table from the firewall. and i cannot ping the AP. what is wrong with the configuration? side note, i am able to connect to the AIR1131AG from my laptop I was not able to retrieve an IP address.
FW1 - CONFIGURATION

When I create a service object or group and add the object to a new rule it never works.I mean the traffic match not the rule. I see not hits.I placed the rule on top of my access list to check if I do somethink wrong but it is not working. When I place only a service for example tcp/23 it is working.
I am working on pix 525, when connected through console I can access the whole internet but when i connect the pc to the inside interface i have no access to the internet. the pc can ping the pix inside interface and from pix i can ping the pc. My configuration is shown below.
I am trying to configure a server(192.168.5.50) in DMZ(192.168.5.0/24) to be able to communicate with a domain controller(10.5.44.220) in the inside network(10.5.44.0/24). I made some configuration using ASDM(not familiar with the CLI) but not working and it caused existing NAT not to work, for example RDP(TCP 3389) connection to 38.96.179.220
The things I am trying to achieve are
1. two way commucation between 192.168.5.50 in DMZ and 10.5.44.220 in Inside for SecureAuthPorts and SecureAuthOutbound service groups
2. NAT for 192.168.5.50 mapping 38.96.179.50 for the service groups mentioned above
I am setting up a new ASA 5510 on our inside network so that we can terminate our VPN connections on this ASA. I can get the VPN to work fine however I noticed that once I turned on my VPN profiles now when I try to access the ASDM I'm getting the VPN logon page. So I decided that in order to resolve this I need a separate interface dedicated to management of my ASA.
I'm trying to come up with the best way to do this. I've got two ports on the ASA plugged into my core switch. One is on a separate VLAN from the rest of my network traffic. This is the port I want to use for management. The second will be used to route all of my VPN traffic.
So far I haven't been able to get this to work at all. My thought was that it had to do with routes, NAT and ACLs. I've been playing with them but can't get any combination to work.
I am configuring an ASA5540 firewall for a client, only difference to usual being that it is to run in Transparent mode. I have looked through for an EAL4 transparent firewall config guide but found nothing and therefore assumed that the usual one would be used. The clients security bod has now come back and insisted MAC filtering should be used but I can find no reference of this anywhere. Does MAC filtering is required to make a transparent box EAL4 compliant and if so where I can find documentation supporting this?
I have 2 questions.Om my cisco 2811 (IOS 12.4(15) T9 IPBASE W/O Crypto) i am using 3 interfaces.And i have a pool of Global addresses: 200.x.z.97-200.x.z.126 255.255.255.0
FastEthernet 0/1 description WAN interfaceip nat outsideip address 200.x.y.253 255.255.255.0
I'm trying to make a very plain and simple network with the ASA 5505, I've strated from scratch over a dozen times triyng to find where I'm going wrong. My main goal is to simply create an IPSec VPN connection to my ASA 5505 and simply ping and connect to devices with the "inside network", so far I can easily create and establish a IPSec VPN Connection, but up to this point, I cannot successfully ping or access a single device on the ASA 5505 inside network.I've taken, create the IPSec profile with the ASDM wizard, add exemption for the VPN IP Pool, add access-list from this Cisco link, url...All this and I can't make a single connection to the inside network. [code]
What do I need to do for access inside network to DMZ?
I successfully configure, internet Access for DZM and inside network, web server can be accessed from internet, but I have problem to configure communication from inside network to DMZ.
I have a PIX 515E V7.0.4 and I'm having trouble with http access between the inside interface and a DMZ zone I have. I have a web server setup in the DMZ with an web interface to upload/download files. I can connect to this interface from a workstation in the inside network but when I try to download a file it is incredibly slow. If I upload a file there are no speed issues. If I connect using an https connection then both upload and downloads are at speeds I would expect.
I have disabled http inspect but this didn't improve the speed connection.
Other http communications from inside to outside do not have any speed issues in either direction.
I am having a spot of bother with a Cisco PIX515, I have posted the current running config below, now I am no cisco expert by any means although I can do basic stuff with them, now I am having trouble with traffic sent from the outside to address: 10.75.32.25 it just doesn't appear to be going anywhere.
Now this firewall is deep inside a private network, with an upstream firewall that we don't manage. I have spoken to the people that look after that firewall and they say they they have traffic routing to 10.75.32.21 and 10.75.32.25 and thats it (although there is a website that runs from the server 172.16.102.5 which (if my understanding is correct) gets traffic via 10.75.32.23. [code]
So, I've set up Anyconnect client access to an ASA-5510.
I've got a handful of interfaces, which contain hosts that should be accesible to anyconnect clients. I'm unable to reach addresses on a specific network, due to what packet-tracer claims is an implicit deny, though I'm unsure where to apply an access-list in this case.

I am trying to access and ping the inside interface of a ASA5505 from a remote network. From the remote network, I am able to access anything on the local network, but the ASA5505 inside interface. The 2 networks linked by a fiber link which have a transport network on another interface. From the remote network, I am able to ping the transport network interface IP, but I would like to be able to ping the inside interface IP. When I do a packet tracer, I get a deny from an implicit rule. How can I achieve that?
Here are the subnets involved and the ASA5505 config.
Remote network : 10.10.2.0/24 Local network : 10.10.1.0/24 Transport network : 10.10.99.0/24
We have ASA 5550, I have a portal server in the dmz which is natted statically to a public ip address for port 443. The application works fine from outside world. The server is also nated with a dynamic nat from inside to dmz and when I hit on the dmz ip from my inside it works fine.
The requirement for us is that the users sitting behind the inside (i.e. LAN) should access the server on the public ip address and not thru the dmz.
I had a working vpn configuration between a local and a remote router; the remote router is not under my administration. Now I moved the vpn termination from my side to an ASA5540 software version 8.0(3). The tunnel is up but there is no reachability. The "show crypto ipsec sa" on the ASA shows encapsulated packets but NO decapsulated packets! Routing and no_nat are properly configured.
I have an ASA- 5585X (v.8.2.4) directly connected to an upstream 6509, which is running EIGRP. I configured the ASA for EIGRP with same AS# and network numbers and no auto-summary. Here are the log messages I got:
Mar 8 15:11:08: %PIM-5-NBRCHG: neighbor 164.72.178.28 UP on interface Vlan150 (vrf default) Mar 8 15:11:08: %PIM-5-DRCHG: DR change from neighbor 0.0.0.0 to 164.72.178.28 on interface Vlan150 (vrf default) Mar 8 15:11:11: %DUAL-5-NBRCHANGE: IP-EIGRP(0) 1: Neighbor 164.72.178.28 (Vlan150) isup: new adjacencyMar 8 16:16:08: %DUAL-5-NBRCHANGE: IP-EIGRP(0) 1: Neighbor 164.72.178.25 (Vlan150) isup: new adjacency Mar 8 16:18:54: %DUAL-5-NBRCHANGE: IP-EIGRP(0) 1: Neighbor 164.72.178.25 (Vlan150) is down: K-value mismatch
I lost my SSH connection to the upstream 6509 and couldn't get it back. Luckily I didn't lose my ASDM connection to the ASA, so I disabled EIGRP and went to look at the logs on the 6509.
What causes a K-value mismatch, and how to I rectify the situation?
I have this 2x ASA5540 firewall and notice the it is configured with a standby ip. The firewall is run in Active/Passive mode. However, the standby ip of this firewall is not point to the secondary firewall and vice versa for the primary firewall. [code]
1) May i know how is this configuration valid in the first place? I have checked through the configuration. None of the configuration is related to this ip address.
2) Can we remove this standby ip address on both the firewall and correct to the correct primary and seconadary ip address in both firewall?
3) We tried to use this ip address but cannot be used ? Is it related to the configuration of the standby ip address.Do note that the ping to this ip address x.x.x.120 is unreachable.
i have two CAT3750 need to place in L3, and it supposed that used as L3 switches by SVI for L2 routing, and I want to these two configured as redundancy by HSRP. but now I can only have one ASA5540 to connects these of L3 switches.
so, here is my questions:
1. does ASA5540 support multi vlan?
2. does it support spanning tree protocol?
3. if I've choiced to use trunking between two L3 switches, does it can pass through HSRP hello msg?
Windows IIS server configured behind a Cisco ASA 5540 listening on port 443 currently. Access-list and static translation configured. I have been ask to redirect all port 80 calls to port 443 for this web site only at the firewall. I have suggested moving it behind our content switch with negative results. Can we do this at the firewall level? how to accomplish the redirect for a single site. 8.2.4 is current code
I upgraded our ASA5540 to 8.4, THEN noted the increased requirements for Memory. I purchased the 2Gig upgrade, but when installing in the Primary unit today, noted that there were 4 slots. Slots 1/3 had 512Mb modules, so I installed the 2 x 1Gig modules in slots 2/4.
The ASA5540 came up clean, and it "sees" the entire 3Gig of memory.
My question: Is this a SUPPORTED configuration? All documentation I have read only mentions 2Gig of memory. Also, If I had FOUR x 1Gig memory modules, would the ASA5540 support the 4Gigs of memory?
We have ASA 5540 with 8.2 SW. We are trying to download a file (3 MB pdf) from https session which fails if done behind the firewall. In case, the client bypasses firewall, the file gets downloaded as usuall. Interesting thing here to note is that when client is behind the firewall, its takes a long time to download the file and the file size always 312 Bytes, of course its a corrupt file.
How does one allow /31 mask for an management interface on an ASA5540 using version 8.3(1)?
I need to configure a 192.168.x.y /31 on the management 0/0 interface of a ASA5540 and it is providing me with the following error:ERROR: /31 mask is not allowed
I have requirement received from one of my customer. the part number given as ASA5540-AIP40-K8, same time requesting for addition of another 4Port GE Module (i believe its SSM-4GE Module). Is any option to add this module in to the above specified model (ASA5540-AIP40-K8).
As per my understanding the ASA5540 have the option to add 1 additional module only, so if we AIP-SSM module, we don't have any free slot left with to add another SSM-4GE Module in the firewall.
i am not getting even the option to add SSM-4GE in the ASA5540-AIP40-K8
I am migrating firewall fortinet to ASA5540 with inside (192.0.0.0/24), dmz (192.168.0.0/24), and outside (x.x.x.x), but the users of inside network gain access to the aplication for two ways: the first way is trough routing between inside and dmz, for example 192.0.0.200 to 192.168.0.20, and the another way is trough static nat between inside and dmz for example 192.0.0.200 to 192.0.0.20 (192.168.0.20 static nat). Is posible in Cisco configure that? because when i configure only firewall route the first way is OK, but when i add the second way only nat is work!
I'm trying to configure a dhcp service on a router for some vlans.I would like to give the range 172.16.0.0 - 172.16.10.255 to vlan 10, 172.16.20.0 - 172.16.20.255 to vlan 20.for some reason it doesn't work?here's the config.

The service IP is supposed to have been populated with an address from the dhcp pool. I am also unable to connect to it by doing a session switch 1 slot 4 processor 1. I get the following upon attempting to do so:

My Expertise with Cisco ASA is Very less. I have observed Input errors in a Couple of Interfaces in Cisco ASA 5540 Firewall. [code] I need to Clear the Input errors on this particular Interface. Will Clear interface GigabitEthernet 0/0 will work?
I am attempting to FTP to a remote site through a IPSEC tunnel. When I am transfering large files the ASA5540 is showing syslog errors stating "connection timeout". What I think is happening is after about 1 hour the firewall is closing the connection control port for the FTP session and neither end is notified so eventually the transfer is stopped. What do I need to modify in the FW to accommodate these larger files?
