Cisco Firewall :: Configure DHCP Server On Inside Interface ASA 5505
May 9, 2012
We've just started with the ASA 5505. We do run a DHCP server on the inside interface, so it is in the same VLAN 1 as all of the clients. However, we cannot get it to work.We can't use DHCP Relay, as the ASA 5505 only allows to relay to DHCP servers in a different subnet.Or do we have to move the DHCP server to a different subnet. If so, how would we configure that scenario?

I have a Cisco 5512 x Firewall connected with Cisco Layer 3 switch 3750.I have two different WAN connections, one for Data and one for voice. Cisco Layer 3 switch is configured with 2 different VLAN's one for data & other is Voice Vlan. Switch is providing DHCP to computers and IP phones. Voice Pool 192.168.10.0/24 Vlan10 and Data pool 192.168.20.0/24 Vlan20.I need to route my data & voice traffic separately. Cisco ASA is connected with two different ISP's. So, how can I do this configuration so that Voice and Data traffic will route separately.

I have a Cisco ASA 5505 in our office. We are currently using Interface 0 for outside and 1 for inside. We only have 1 Vlan in our environment. We have two three switches behind the firewall. Today the uplink to Interface 1, to the firewall, on the switch went bad. I want to setup a second inside interface on the firewall and configure it as failover incase this happens again. I want to attach it to the other switch. Can I do this? If so, what do I need to do? would it only be a passive/standby interface?

I am connecting the inside interface to an upstream switch and therefore will need to assign a static IP address to the inside address as I did below:
#sho int ip brief
Vlan1 123.123.123.123 YES manual up up
I will also use this to manage the ASA. I am having a problem with the network configuration of the inside interface as I can't ping the gateway and/or the in IP of the inside interface.Do I need to add any routes?

I have an ASA 5505 that I'm trying to set up a guest network on. I've configured an interface as a trunk and allowed the 2 vlans but I'm not getting any layer 3 to it. The switch connected to it is a 3560 and port is configured as a trunk with the same vlans.
I can't ping the ASA inside interface but I see its MAC address in the swtich's table.

We already have a subnet defined to inside interface and is in produciton. the default gateway is this interface ip. In that setup now I have to add one more subnet and as the first subnet is been defined in ASA indside interface, I have to assign secondary Ip to the inside interface so that new subnet users can easily reach here and go outside.

We have a Cisco ASA 5505 (v7.2(3)) with a "fairly" normal configuration yet we have a problem where it appears UDP/53 traffic is denied on our inside network.
here is output from our sys log:
SyslogID Source IP Dest IP Description
305006 172.18.22.3 portmap translation creation failed for udp src inside:172.18.22.156/42013 dst inside:172.18.22.3/53
To give some clarification:
172.18.22.3 is one of our DNS servers
172.18.22.156 is a device we're experimenting with.
We've bypassed the Cisco by using a 4G wireless router with this same device - and it works flawlessly. Here is a [scrubbed] copy of our config. It is what I inherited from the previous admin - I'm not sure of all its finer points (I'm not Cisco certified -- perhaps I'm just certifiable.)

Trying to add inside routes on an ASA 5505 to point traffic to another gateway for other connected networks is resulting in the following error 6Sep 16200 819:13:5810601510.184.236.1265003810.170.54.1823389Deny TCP (no connection) from 10.184.236.126/50038 to 10.170.54.182/3389 flags RST on interface insideI believe the problem is due to the Asymetric tcp connection and the ASA is dropping the connection because it only see one half of the traffic. Is there a way we can stop the firewall dropping the TCP connections on the inside interface? i've tried removing the threat managment which didnt work.Annoying thing is were putting the ASA 5505's in to replace old Watchguard soho firewalls only the watchguards forwarded the traffic no problem at all.

I have a pair of 5505's in transparent mode and connected them to C2960S. The inside interface (which is VLAN5 on the switchport) keeps dropping, going in to error state. There is no log reference in the switch and the interface shows as UP. The standby ASA has no problem, both interfaces on the switch is up. As soon as I failover the units over, the active node inside interfaces drops.

My internal network consists of Catalyst 3750 switches segmented into different VLANs. There is a default route on the layer 3 Catalyst switch sending all unknown traffice to the inside Internet of the ASA 5510. However, I'd like to have a separate VLAN for wifi guest access and send all of that traffic through one of the DMZ interfaces on the ASA 5510. I don't think you can have separate default routes based on VLANs on the 3750 switches so my only option is to make the ip address of the DMZ port the default gateway for all hosts on the wifi guest VLAN.
The problem I have is that I have a couple servers behind the inside interface that have services available to the public Internet via a NAT address on the outside interface. I want the guests on the wifi VLAN to have the ability to access the servers on the inside interface using the public address as well, but have not been able to come up with a solution yet.
Here is my config that pertains to this setup:
interface Ethernet0/0description Outside Interfacenameif Outsidesecurity-level 0ip address 76.47.10.x 255.255.255.224 rip send version 1rip receive version 1!interface Ethernet0/1description Inside Interfacenameif Insidesecurity-level 100ip address 192.168.17.1 255.255.255.0 rip send version 1rip receive version 1!interface Ethernet0/3description Wifi Guest Accessnameif DMZ2security-level 50ip address 192.168.60.1 255.255.255.0

static (Inside,Outside) 76.47.10.x 192.168.17.88 netmask 255.255.255.255
I've tried the following commands below but no dice.
same-security-traffic permit intra-interface

I'm having trouble setting up the correct rules on an ASA 5505 I'm using in my home office. I have a couple of IP Cams I need to access remotely.
I've tried setting up simple NAT(PAT) and/or Access Rules, but it hasn't worked. I have a single dynamic IP for the Outside interface. Call it 77.76.88.10 and I am using PAT. The CAM is setup to connect on port 80, but could be configured if necessary. I've tried setting up NAT Rules using ASDM as follows:
Match Criteria: Original Packet
Source Intf = outside
Dest Intf = inside

I'm afraid to use CLI only because I am not confident I'll know how to remove changes if I make a mistake.

I am used to setting up access-lists on outside interfaces with ip addresses that are static. I have recently been given a site that is using a dyndns.org client for name to ip address resolution on an outside interface that is dhcp assigned. I created an access-list to open up ports 41794 and 41795 to an engineering application but everytime I try to connect from the outside I get a syn timeout. The application works when inside the lan. Basically I want to allow outside connections from anywhere on the outside to go to ports 41794 and 41795. I am running a Cisco ASA 5505 on version 7.2(4) Below is my conifg. what I may have misconfigured?

I had this setup and working and I have another set of equirement that I am replacing that is working with my service provider so I know it is a configuration issue. When I ping 4.2.2.2 for example I get:

I am using a fiber optic connection. I want to connect it directly to ASA5510. A WLC2504 will be connected to ASA and one Aironet AP will be deployed at first. (At this moment I am not using any Windows server but in near future I will need to deploy Windows Server 2003 in my corporate network) My questions are:
Can I configure ASA as DHCP server for my LAN?
Can I configure WLC as DHCP server for my LAN?
If we can configure both then what is the best practice from above two options? (I am new to Cisco stuff and first time user)

Is there a way to configure a DHCP server for my internal subnet of 192.168.20.1 which is on a 3550 layer 3 switch from my 5505 ASA Firewall. My subnet of 10.1.1.0/30 is connecting my 5505 to 3550. All I'm trying to do is run a DHCP server down to my hosts. The only options on ASA 5505 is
dhcpd address 192.168.20.1 - 192.168.20.254 outside or inside, which conflicts with my subnet of 10.1.1.0 used to connect my internal subnet of 192.168.20.1 for the whole network.
When I used my router it did not need the (inside, outside) keywords and just an ip helper-address command. How do I configure my my firewall DHCP server to propagate the 192.168.20.0 network through my 10.1.1.0 connection.

Currently I have an ASA setup as a Firewall with 1 outside interface and 2 inside interfaces. Initially, the Guest interface was setup to receive DHCP from the ASA and everything was working. I'm adding router and a server for the guest interface and what I'm trying to accomplish now is the following: ASA 5505 > Airport Extreme with a public static IP (69.xx.xx.6), handling DHCP and NAT > Mac Server as DNS Server.Right now, when I connect to my Airport Extreme with any computer, I don't have internet. I don't understand what's wrong. My DNS Server has a reserved IP address: 192.168.226.2 and it's pointing to itself and forwarding the ISP DNS servers, the Airport Extreme is handling the DNS Server IP and the ISP DNS Server IP but I can't connect to the internet from the server. I have Pix 501 firewall and I'm just configuring the device for "Email Server" to allowing POP/SMTP.
Inside Interface Address: 132.147.162.14/255.255.0.0
Outside Interface Address: ISP provided IP address
My question is can my traffic goes from inside interface to outside interface? (because the inside interface address not from 10.0/172./192.168 private address)Also I'm allowing internet from this email server (132.147.162.14) so what my access list to be configured? and what my subnet mask shoud be there?
Pix(config)#access-list outbound permit tcp 132.147.162.14 255.255.0.0 any eq 80
Pix(config)#access-list outbound permit udp 132.147.162.14 255.255.0.0 any eq 53

I need to configure my ASA 5520 version 7.3 firewall to translate our SMTP server residing in local LAN to use different IP address from the outside interface which is used by all other computers to access Internet.
Under NAT section, i have NATted this internal SMTP server with different IP address(eg x.x.x.1) and also translated the remaining IP addresses in the LAN to the outside interface(eg x.x.x.2)
my problem is, Whenever i check the header for message coming from the smtp server it shows that, the SMTP server is also translated by using the same outside interface public ip address(i.e x.x.x.2) which is used by other client machine to access internet instead of the x.x.x.1.
how i can get my SMTP server to use separate IP and avoid to be blacklisted by some domain.

I've recently upgraded my old firewall from a PIX to an ASA5505 and have been trying to match up the configuration settings to no avail. I have is that I can't ping the new firewall on it's inside interface, despite having "icmp permit any inside" in the running config. Secondly, the server I have on there ("Sar") can't connect out to the internet.I've included the ASA's running config incase anybody can see if something stands out. I have a feeling it's either not letting anything onto the inside interface, or there is no nat going on. Lastly (and possibly relevant), the firewall is actually going at the end of a vlan, which is different to the firewall's inside vlan number. I don't know if this is actually the problem because the server can't connect out even if connected directly into the firewall.

I have an ASA 5505 configured to get a DHCP'd IP address from the ISP on it's outside interface. The problem I am seeing is when the ISP renews their IP address, the ASA 5505 is still holding on to the old IP address information. I have to either manually renew the IP or reload the ASA. I have the potential of rolling out hundreds of these devices and I would not like my customers to have to reboot their ASA everytime the ISP's DHCP lease experies. I am using an easy vpn autoconnecting to an ASA 5520. Static IP's are not an option on the outside interface of the ASA 5505's.

I've been running a cisco asa 5505 for quite some time and it has been running fine, now all of a sudden it starts to renew it's outside dhcp adress like every 2 hours. I dont think it's the ISP since I have another device connected also using dhcp to the same ISP and it doesnt renew itself, it's just the ASA. Rebooting it, makes it pick up an adress straight away. The interface seems to be up, the GUI just reports "no ip adress" and then the ASA get's a new IP after about 10-15 min without one. Pressing the renew IP adress button in the GUI throws an error.

I would like to configure the 881G to use both the cellular interface and Fe4 WAN port for internet connectivity.Interface Fe4 is connected to an ADSL router.
I have configure each interface with a default route and weighting:
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Dialer0 200
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 FastEthernet 4 100
I need to configure Fe4 to get an address as a DHCP client:
interface FastEthernet4
ip address dhcp
no shut
duplex auto
speed auto
How do I remove Fe4 from VLAN1? There is some existing config around VLAN 1:
interface Vlan1
ip address 10.73.0.1 255.255.255.0
ip helper-address 192.168.140.13
ip tcp adjust-mss 1400
no autostate
ip sla 100
icmp-echo 10.64.4.15 source-interface Vlan1
tag 3G Keepalive
frequency 10
Then I guess I need to adjust my Internet-IN ACL to allow broadcasts and UDP 67 and 68?
