Cisco Firewall :: Can't Ping ASA5505 Over IPSEC VPN 8.2(5)

Feb 26, 2013

I'm a CIsco ISR, Setting up my first ASA, which seems to be going well.I've setup an IPSEC VPN to a non Cisco device. And have connectivity between devices in each subnet.

-Subnet A - non Cisco - 10.10.13.0/24
-Subnet B - ASA 5505 - 192.168.2.0/24 (ASA is .254)

From Subnet A I can ping every device except the ASA on .254.

Edited Config attached, IP's changed for privacy, passwords removed.Let me know if I've removed too much of the config.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5505 Can't Ping New Firewall On Inside Interface

Jul 14, 2011

I've recently upgraded my old firewall from a PIX to an ASA5505 and have been trying to match up the configuration settings to no avail. I have is that I can't ping the new firewall on it's inside interface, despite having "icmp permit any inside" in the running config. Secondly, the server I have on there ("Sar") can't connect out to the internet.I've included the ASA's running config incase anybody can see if something stands out. I have a feeling it's either not letting anything onto the inside interface, or there is no nat going on. Lastly (and possibly relevant), the firewall is actually going at the end of a vlan, which is different to the firewall's inside vlan number. I don't know if this is actually the problem because the server can't connect out even if connected directly into the firewall.

Cisco Firewall :: Unable To Ping Internet IPs From ASA5505 Firewall

Jan 9, 2013

Internet ISP -> Juniper SRX 210 Ge-0/0/0
Juniper fe0/0/2  -> Cisco ASA 5505
Cisco ASA 5505 - >Inernal LAN switch.

1.  Internet  is connected to Juniper Ge0/0/0  via /30 IP.

2. Juniper fe0/0/2 port is configured as inet port and configured the Internal public LAN pool provided by the ISP. And this port is directly connected to  Cisco ASA 5505 E0/0. Its a /28 pool IP address. This interface is configured as outside and security level set to 0.

From Juniper SRX, am able to ping public Internet IPs (8.8.8.8).

Issue:

1. From ASA am unable to ping public ip configured on Juniper G0/0/0 port.(/30)
2. From ASA no other Public internet IP is pinging.

Troubleshooting Done so far.

1, Configured icmp inspection on ASA.
2. Used the packet tracer in ASA, it shows the packet is flowing outside without a drop.
3.  Allowed all services in untrust zone in bound traffic in Juniper SRX.
4. Viewed the logs when I was trying the ping 8.8.8.8 in ASA. It says "Tear down ICMP connection for faddrr **** gaddr **

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5505 Cannot Access Inside Network From IPSec VPN

Jan 20, 2013

I'm trying to make a very plain and simple network with the ASA 5505, I've strated from scratch over a dozen times triyng to find where I'm going wrong.  My main goal is to simply create an IPSec VPN connection to my ASA 5505 and simply ping and connect to devices with the "inside network", so far I can easily create and establish a IPSec VPN Connection, but up to this point, I cannot successfully ping or access a single device on the ASA 5505 inside network.I've taken, create the IPSec profile with the ASDM wizard, add exemption for the VPN IP Pool, add access-list from this Cisco link, url...All this and I can't make a single connection to the inside network.  [code]

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5505 Can't Ping Device

May 22, 2012

I have interited an ASA5505 problem. We're trying to manage the ASA remotely - we can connect to the device remotely via IPSec, we can ping other devices on the LAN network, but cannot ping the inside interface of the ASA - nor can we telnet/ssh/http to it.  We can, however, connect to another router that's on the LAN and then SSH into the ASA's inside interface.

My IP via VPN: 10.133.20.8
The ASA interface we're trying to connect to via SSH or ASDM: 10.4.209.254
A router on the LAN we can connect to 10.4.209.250

We can ping other LAN devices such as 10.4.209.75, .90, .150 - so it's not a NAT/Route/Split Tunnel issue.I've attached the ASA config.

hostname ASA5505
enable password XXXXXXXXXXX encrypted

There are no isakmp sas

My local network is 10.1.1.X/24 and my remote peer network contains 66.37.227.X/24.  I've been working on this for the better part of the day and would love to get it resolved.

Cisco VPN :: ASA5505 - Connection Reset When Trying To SSH Over IPSEC Tunnel

Feb 20, 2008

Just bought myself an ASA5505 to replace a PIX 501, and having transferred over most of the previous config I've managed to get the two IPSEC VPN tunnels working as before.

Unfortunately when I try and SSH to the ASA the connection just resets instantly even when the tunnel is up.  It seems as if the ASA is actively refusing the connection, though the log doesn't state this.  I had always presumed that traffic over an established IPSEC tunnel was implicitly trusted and not subject to usual access-list rules.

I am unable to SSH to the ASA from the 10.0.0.x range, but I can SSH to a machine on 10.27.0.4 (so I know the tunnel is up and working)

Config (minus irrelevant sensitive information) is attached for reference.

Also - though I'm not sure how relevant it is given the tunnels appear to work - when I enter the line "crypto map meepnet-map interface outside" in config mode the ASA reports "WARNING: The crypto map entry is incomplete!" even though I have supplied the access-list, peer and transform-set variables.

Cisco VPN :: ASA5505 VPN Ping Works RDP Doesn't?

Mar 23, 2013

I have setup a remote access VPN to an ASA5505

I have a directly connected server behind the ASA and I can ping the server without a problem.

The VPN client reports packets being encrypted and decrypted

However when I try to RDP to the server the encyrpted packets keep incrementing but the decrypted packets do not.

I am also not seeing any RDP traffic hit the server (verified by ethereal)

I have done a packet tracer and it suceeds but ends with an IP spoof which I believe is correct as it is vpn traffic and not actually being encrypted.

This is the debug from the RDP session, I am confused by a Denied ICMP on line 2 as I am able to ping the server?

%ASA-6-302013: Built inbound TCP connection 88193 for external:172.16.24.4/50984 (172.16.24.4/50984) to internal:192.168.100.146/3389 (192.168.100.146/3389) (roger_ssl)
%ASA-4-313004: Denied ICMP type=0, from laddr 172.16.24.4 on interface external to 192.168.100.146: no matching session

[Code].....

The only logical bit to this is flow closed by inspection? Does this mean the server has not responded?

And the decrypt packets not increasing when trying to RDP Does this mean that I have reached the end of my ASA knowledge on this one!

Cisco :: Unable To Ping Over Ipsec VPN?

Mar 25, 2011

I have created a site to site Ipsec vpn with a cisco 2610 and a linksys RV042. Running a show "crypto isakmp sa" command I get a qm_idle status and when running a "show crypto ipsec sa" I see that packets are being decrypted and encrypted. Also when running the "show ip access-lists" command I do have matches to that connection.The problem is that I am unable to ping hosts from one network to another. For example, from the Cisco router in network 192.168.0.0 I am unable to ping the remote network 192.168.2.0 and vice versa.

I am not sure what is happening. Do I need to create a route to that remote network? I guess it could also be a problem with NAT or an ACL.Here is what running-config shows:

Cisco VPN :: SRP527W IPSec VPN Tunnel Works One Way / Can Ping Other Direction Too

Aug 2, 2012

I have a IPSec tunnel that is working in one direction. Below is the router config from the side that can connect to the other  side perfectly. I believe the issue is with this router as while I was  waiting on delivery for the ASA I had an SRP527W sitting in it's place  and had exactly the same problem.On one side I have a 887VA router and the other an ASA5505.The network behind the 887VA can access the remote site perfectly, backup services are traversing the link as are web interfaces for applications. In the other direction I can ping hosts but cannot connect. What else is interesting is if from the remote site I attempt to connect to a particular device that performs a port redirect the remote site browser gets so far as being redirected to port 5000 but then hangs.

I am seeing some very generic packet drop debug notices on the 887va on the NAT-ACL access list but I think this is as it should be as it is dropping the tunnel traffic from the NAT'ing.The config for the router is here, I will post the ASA config when I get to the other site shortly but I am convinced the issues is on this device, all the crypto configurations match.I have looked at the MTU's on each side, the path MTU on both sides is 1492. The asa does say the media MTU is 1500 but I believe that is the ADSL link so shouldnt matter?I even went so far as installing CCP and testing the VPN. It says the tunnel is up. It did state a failure:A ping with data size of this VPN interface MTU size and 'Do  not Fragment' bit set to the other end VPN device is failing. This may  happen if there is a lesser MTU network which drops the 'Do not  fragment' packets. [code]

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 881 - IPsec VPN Tunnels / Ping From Workstations

A few of the sites are connected by IPSec VPN tunnels that have been configured using Cisco CCP without any issues until now.  On one location I can ping from a workstations on  Site1 to Site2, however I cannot ping from the same workstation on Site2 back to Site1.

Here is a strange behavior.  If I have a continuous ping going from Site1 - Site2 and then start a continuous ping from Site2 - Site1 then I get a response  until I stop the ping from Site1 - Site2.  Site 1 has approximately 5 successful tunnels with absolutely no issues.

Here is some site specific Info:

For additional troubleshooting I established a VPN tunnel from Site2 to our office Site3 with no issues at all. Site3 happens to be one of the VPN tunnels that connects to Site1 with no issues. I have seen a number of articles on this on the net and gone through the troubleshooting steps of an article such as [URL]. The tunnel is confirmed as up when I have done all my troubleshooting.

Cisco VPN :: ASA5505 - IP Address Pool In IPSec Client And Site-to-site VPN

We have a scenario where the Cisco ASA 5505 will be one end of a site-to-site VPN. The same ASA 5505 also allows Client VPN connection. The question is around IP pooling. If I assign a pool of IP's (192.168.1.20 - 192.168.1.30) for Client VPN connections - do I need to be sure that those same IP's are not used on the other side of site-to-site VPN ?

There could be PC's/Servers running 192.168.1.0/24 on the other side of site-to-site VPN. Would this cause an address conflict ?
