Cisco Routers :: RV042 Smart Link / Failover Is Sticky
Apr 16, 2012
RV042 in Router mode.WAN1 preferred. With Smart Link it seems to work to a point. When WAN1 fails, it fails over to WAN2.But then it gets stuck on WAN2 and I have to manually switch to WAN2 preferred and then back to WAN1 preferred to get WAN1 connection to return. The test IP addresses should be just fine as set.
We are looking at purchasing and RV042 soon and have one cruitcial question. I am looking at having two internet connections running into the RV042. The only load balancing is going to be that all the VOIP traffic will go through one connection (eg WAN2) and then have all other traffic (such as web and email) through WAN1.
I am looking to have it so that if one of the internet connections goes down then it will failover EVERYTHING to the one that is working so both the VOIP and all the other traffic share the same connection until both WANs then go back online.
We have 2 dsl lines coming in and the modem is in bridge mode while the router handles the pppoe information. Each line is 6mb down and .5 mb up. It's ****, yes I know, but this is pretty decent for a small town in the country. To double our bandwidth, I put it in load balance mode. When load balance, I get anywhere from 9-12 down and .8 up. Here's where it gets tricky.
When anything is uploaded, the speed drops from 9-12 down and .8 up to about .2-.7 down and .2 up. I realize that we will lose some down and up speed but I wouldn't think it would be this drastic. Is this normal? When they upload to a specific https site (file is about 50mb), it never initiates the upload. If I switch it to Link Backup, it will upload fine. I still lose the speed but at least it does something. I've read that some https sites have issues with grabbing data from multiple IP's so I figured this is the case since it's a medical site that was probably developed in house. Is this true?Does protocol binding work in Load Balance mode? I binded all http and https traffic through WAN 2 interface however, when I do a speed test or check my external IP, it is not indicating the WAN 2 IP address. Is this a common issue in rv042's or is there a firmware update that solves all these issues?
I have a couple of Droid Incredibles, and when I use them connected to my Wi-Fi (even tho I have unlimited data, the cell signal strength is not that high in my home -- I'd rather use the Wi-Fi) they'll run for 10-15 minutes, then hit a brick wall. Internet traffic stops, for all devices conected. ROuter has to be re-booted.url...but I also read some where in this forum that simply disabling AES would work.
Smart Link 56K Voice modem is installed. When I send fax message it rings at the other end but the message does not get transmitted. I get a message "No answer" similarly when for incoming fax there is ring but message is not transmitted.

I connect to the internet by BPL modem on electricity , for using my modem's wireless feature ı have to close DHCP and use modem in bridge mode, otherwise I can't use wireless, And my problem is connecting to the internet with my LG 42LM640S smart tv using wireless, When I talk with LG techinal service they came and try to connect tv to the internet with using their android phone's hotspot feature, my tv connect with phone's hotspot feature to the internet,So they said that "you have to change tp link modem's encoding system? Now it's encoding mode in WPA enconding system :S But whwen ı shut down encoding wireless tv didn't connect again?
Why does my HP Photosmart B110 printer not work wirelessly through my new Belkin Surf N300 modem router? Everything is fine using my old Philips CONN-X router. Is bonjour connectivity the issue? All my other devices work fine connected through the Belkin wi-fi.
Two part question: First is there a way to create a smart tunnel link on a user's home page like you have on the main portal page of the ASA 5550? I see the code that it is using but have not been able to get this to work. Here is that code;
Second question when will MACs be able to auto start smart tunnel when the user first logs into WebVPN? Right now the only way I know of starting a smart tunnel on a MAC is a link on the main portal page. I am running code 126.96.36.199
We have a customer who has a network consisting of two ISPs, one as a primary and the other as a backup. We are trying to create a configuration that would allow the primary link to fail and the secondary link to automatically pick up traffic and begin routing .how to set something like this up. Both routers are non Cisco routers and there for HSRP is out.

Philips support says it has to do with the router, firewall or something. Not much good from them. But I dont know anything about firewalls or anything, all I know is that my wireless internet works fine and that the TV is linked with the router but doesn't access internet. Streaming from pc to tv works fine though
I have an issue with my N750 Wireless router, F9K1103. I have a Windows Home Server, HP Media Smart Server – EX470, that at times causes the router to lose connection, with the front panel light going from Blue (connected) to Orange (disconnected). When I pull the net cable from the server, after about 30 seconds the blue light comes back on.
My wife has an HP laptop running windows 7. when she opens a photo on her laptop , HP mediasmart photo software launches. At the same time , my DIR 655 router reboots knocking everybody off line until it comes back. It does this consistently whenever a photo is opened for viewing on the laptop. I have tried about everything I can think of but still cannot figure this one out. Is it Win7? HP? Dlink? all? both? I've tried defaulting my router and it still does it.
I was looking for a small business router that has VPN support and dual WAN support for load balancing. Upon reading reviews, I think RV042/RV042G is a good choice. Now am thinking if it supports intervlan/ router-on-a-stick configuration?
I have 2 Cisco routers 3945. Use HSRP for links failover. Does exist any possibility (any protocol) which makes routers configuration's automatic synchronization (as failover for ASA firewalls)? I mean, if I will make any configuration changes on the Active router, automticly will taken this changes by the Standby router.
I’m currently training to take my CCNA, So for the reason I’m here, I have just been asked to take over the company network. And I need to know how I go about configuring some base level routers.I have 3 remote sites and 1 main site, all these routers are using 857’s, with a VPN tunnel between them, this is running all OK and working fine,But my boss has decided to have a second ADSL line installed in the main site for failover. How do I go about configuring this, ie how do the VPN’s terminate on the other router when the main one goes down?
I've been using my pair of ACE-4710s for quite some time and have usually stuck to the Class C Subnet sticky settings, as that's what we migrated from in Windows NLB. In one instance of load balancing I'm trying to create an L4 inspection policy that looks for a certain payload (much like a http header) and would like to persist on this. The problem is that the client portion of the conversation starts with a 'SessionID' of 0, and the server responds with a unique 'SessionID'. If I setup the sticky policy with 'Enable Sticky For Response', I get entries populated in the sticky database, but they all go to the same server as there is a sticky session setup for the SessionID = 0. Is there a way to setup sticky entries on server response only.Currently using ACE DM v4(1.0).
I am planning to provide a redudnt link to our customer. The setup as below:
One link over wireless while the other link over wired link, I want to make sure that I should maintain the same public IP addresses for the customer therefore, I am looking for L2 failover for my customer.
If the wireless down the customer should migrated to wired and vis versa. I have 7200 CISCO Router as Core.
I have an issue where we have a single ASA5505 [soon to be active/standby with single ISP] connecting to HQ where there are 2 x Cisco 2821's. Each 2821 router has it's own connection to the internet running BGP and each router is setup to terminate IPSEC VPN's from the ASA. The ASA has a backup VPN configuration with no IP SLA configuration to track if the Primary IPSEC endpoint is alive. Keep alives are set and the VPN does failover to the backup. When the primary 2821 internet connection fails the ASA fails over to the backup 2821 and everything works a dream. However when the primary internet link re establishes to the primary 2821 the ASA does not fail back to the primary 2821 it stays on the backup 2821 and all is broken as the remote site starts forwarding traffic out the BGP default route - which is back via the primary connection...How do I fix this so that the ASA tracks the IP of the primary router to failback without manual intervention - clearing isakmp and ipsec sa's?The other issue is the ASA does not allow traffic to be orignated from the 2821 end of the VPN. You have to establish traffic from behind the ASA for the IPSEC sa to be created.
I'm looking to use 861s at few remote sites connecting to a 881 in the main office using Easy VPN. If I was to get 2 ISPs at the main office, can I configure it in a way that if the primary WAN failsover to the secondary, the VPN tunnels from remote sites will also failover?
Would you recommend an ASA 5505 at main office over the 811?
I was wondering how does failover works on Cisco Small Business RV016. Specifically, I am interested when one WAN line stop working, and all the computers in the LAN start using another line. Does it means that IP addresses of the computers in the LAN will change, or they stay the same? If they change can I set it up that they always stay the same no matter which input WAN they are using?

I'm looking for some documentation I can share with a customer to explain why I can't configure them a back-up sticky server farm when we're not terminating SSL on the the ACE (we pass SSL from the client through to the rservers, sticking the client to the rserver by source IP address). I've not been able to find anything that addresses this particular scenario in my googling so far. I remember discussing this in my training class with the instructor, but I can't find any reference to it. Have any of you run into this and have a link they can share?
We are using a sticky serverfarm with 2 real servers, one server was down for maintenance for an extended period of time. When it came inservice again it was not getting any connections. is it because all the connections had stuck to the other server ? we want sessions to be sticky but we also want to LB?I got it working by bouncing the server that had been online all the time. things started to LB then.BTW the ACE 4710 is running 4.2.1
I have a requirement to load balance OWA 2010 inbound connectivity to 2 CAS servers using a ACE 4710 with sticky sessions enabled.
The CAS servers are currently responding on 80 or 443 at this moment in time. Eventually I want to off load the SSL to the ACE 4710, its currently running on the CAS servers. I need to enable sticky sessions to keep the session to the same CAS server for each internet based connection. I also have a proxy enabled for inbound connectivity so I cannot use source IP.
Here is my configuration but it doesn’t seem to be working, i am currently testing with port 80 connections not SSL.
does cisco 2811 support?if no, can i make it work for BGP?also, i want to know the configuration of bGP for twoo ISPs for link failover.it will be google if u tell me step by step approach for configuring it
We are using a ACE 4710 with A3(2.6) software release.I had to change our sticky load balancing method for HTTPS to cookie based. However while connections appear to work if I look at the show sticky database table I can not see or confirm sticky entries for the cookie based connections. Here or config snippets to show the config
