Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6509 SUP720-3B / Dual Link With Failover And Redundant Configuration?

Feb 24, 2013

I have a two fiber connection from our Central Office(6513) to Remote office (6509). I have a requirement that on the remote office if one of the fiber goes down, the second fiber should work as a failover. I am planning to use SUP720-3B SFP to connect to the CO.

Can I connet one fiber to Sup720-3b G5/1 & another fiber connection to G5/2?  or Can I connet one fiber to Sup720-3b G5/1 & another fiber connection to G6/2? I am running EIGRP between sites. Any sample config.

Cisco WAN :: 2 ISPs / 2811 Router - Internet Access To LAN / VPN Access To VLANs?

May 31, 2012

I have 2 ISPs terminating on 2 FE ports on my 2811 router.ISP1 had always been here, used for the following:Internet access to LAN usersInternet access with public IP mapping to servers in different security zones (VLANS)Site to Site VPN tunnels to 3rd party partnersRemote VPN access to 3rd party partners We recently got a second ISP, mainly for the following:Internet access and public IP mapping to servers on seperate security zones (VLANS)Site to Site VPN tunnels to 3rd party partners as above, but different hosts So far, ISP1 and all the above service have worked based on the config below. However, having added ISP2, I have not been able to successfully create the site-to-site VPN tunnels.

version 12.4
!
ip source-route
!
ip cef
!
ip name-server 4.2.2.2
ip name-server 137.65.1.1
ip inspect WAAS enable

[code]....

Whenver I try to establish a tunnel on SDM_CMAP_2 and run a test using CCP, I get 2 failure reasons:

1. The peer must be routed through the crypto map interface. The following peer(s) are  routed through non-crypto map interface - 4.58.130.130

2. The tunnel traffic destination must be routed through the crypto map interface. The following destinations are routed through non-crypto map interface - 4.58.130.134

The tunnels on SDM_CMAP_1 are all active Do I need to include a default route for the second ISP on the router? If so, how do I get this done? When I tried it, I had loops on the user LAN segment of the network.

Cisco WAN :: 2811 Non-stacked Dual Switch Failover

I'm trying to see if I can use both ethernet ports on a 2811 to run hsrp for non-stacked dual switch fail over.  Then link the the NM-32A ports to L0, so the remote access server trying to use them can use the l0 ip and failover much faster (it's programming is limited).  This is on IOS 12.4(25)f, though we are moving to 15 soon.

Cisco WAN :: ISPs Layer2 Link But Not VPLS With ASA 6580

Mar 30, 2012

I understood that service provider will use hardware Alcatel 6850 on the distribution/core and Zyxel 2108G on customer access level.query is that service provider says it's not VPLS which should work most probably through MPLS network of ISP.ISP noted that it would be direct 802.1q VLAN between two sites without any Layer3 on ISP side.

How to:
- understand what kind of connection this will be?
- is this connection is fine for customer?
- identify if this kind of connection will be fine for converge network (voice+data) ?
- what should I ask to ISP to clarify details?

Cisco Firewall :: 8.0.4 / ASA Failover Configuration Sync Infinite Time

Nov 15, 2011

We have ASA running code 8.0.4 with Active/Standby for quite long time. Today when we gave the command wri standby it started sync the config to standby ASA but waited forever.when we checked the show failover, we got the following result.

This host: Secondary - Active
Active time: 1928633 (sec)
slot 0: ASA5540 hw/sw rev (2.0/8.0(4)) status (Up Sys)
Interface PERIMETER-MGMT (10.12.8.1): Normal (Not-Monitored)
Interface OUTSIDE (86.36.xx.xx): Normal (Waiting)

[code].....

When we console to Standby ASA and tried to save (wri mem), we  got the following error and also please note the hostname has become default...?

ciscoasa(config)# wri memory
Building configuration...
Command Ignored, Configuration in progress...
[FAILED]

and when we tried to give following command we got this error:

ciscoasa(config)# copy running-config startup-config
Source filename [running-config]?
%Error reading system:/running-config (Configuration temporarily locked)
ciscoasa(config)#

I see here the standby ASA IPS module is down, but can that issue cause not sync the config backup and writing to nvram (save config)..?

Cisco Firewall :: 5540 - Active / Standby ASA Failover Configuration Changes?

May 15, 2011

I have 2 ASA 5540s ver 8.3 in Active/Standby state.I am considering a future hypothetical situation where I might need to rename interfaces or reallocate redundant interface groups.  Doing so obviously has a major impact on the current primary configuration.  My goal would be to minimize or eliminate network downtime during the interface changes.

I am wondering if it is possible to force the secondary ASA from the standby to active state. Then temporarily disable failover on the primary unit.Make the interface changes on the primary unit Then reactivate failover on the primary unit Force the primary unit back to active and secondary unit to standby My new interface configuration would then sync from the primary to the secondary.

I believe this would work but must ensure that the secondary ASA can function as the active unit while the failover is disabled on the primary unit.  Is there a set length of time the secondary unit can remain active without a failover peer?

see issues with operating the secondary unit in this manner while making changes to the primary unit?

Cisco WAN :: Configuration Script Stored On 2811 Router?

Nov 20, 2011

I have several Cisco 2811 ISR Routers that are functioning as CallManager MGCP voice gateways.  These routers have prtial PRI's attached to them which I realize are not supported by Cisco CallManager using MGCP.  The problem is that whenever the router gets rebooted, the configuration under Controller T1 ends up with the improper PRI Timeslots command and I have to go in and manually change it. Solution:  I have developed smal text files for each router that contains all of the commends needed to get the chnage accomplished (you have to shut down things and remove lines elsewhere to be able to change the PRI Timeslots) and I just telnet to the router and cut and paste the commands into the router. However, I would like to store those files on the router in such a way that I could telenet to the router and then either somehow display the file and then copy/paste it in or possible have a file that could be run to make the changes.  That way I could do the job quickly fram anyplace I could telnet to the router and not have to have the text files on the local machine.

Cisco Firewall :: 5510 Setup In Active / Standby Failover Configuration

May 8, 2012

We have 2 ASA 5510's setup in an active, standby failover configuration. When the primary fails over to standby, the 3rd party cert does not failover to the standby ASA. The users then receive the CERT missing, invalid message and have to select yes, no to move on. This does not occur when the primary is not in failover mode. It is my understanding that failover fails over certs but in our case it does not apper to be working correctly.

Cisco Firewall :: 3750s / Trigger Failover Without Standby Address Configuration?

Nov 13, 2012

I am trying to establish EIGRP neighborships with my inside switches (3750s) over the "Internal" interface, shown in green. The outside interface is g0/0 and don't worry, I've ensured EIGRP is not running there. The problem I'm having is that I need to monitor the "Internal" link so that if it goes down, the ASA triggers the failover to the secondary firewall connected to the other switch. I was told that the "secondary" keyword was what enabled this:

interface GigabitEthernet0/1
nameif Inside
security-level 100
ip address 10.10.2.2 255.255.255.0 standby 10.10.2.3

This is fine since I am able to compare this config to the firewalls that are currently in production elsewhere in the environment and this is what's in use there. However, in order to run EIGRP all the way to the firewall and not rely on something else like HSRP for the inbound traffic, I'd like to run the corresponding links (Gi1/0/22) on the inside switches as routed ports (no switchport) so that I don't have to establish neighborships with SVIs or something like that. I want the routing to be done directly to the port, leaving the interfaces for failover and our DMZ set up as switchports, since those can be layer 2.It's saying the Internal interface has failed now, probably because it cannot send hellos through this, since it's a routed port on the switch side. I'm wondering if this simply is an impossible design, unless there's a way to track this interface and trigger a failover if it goes down using another method.a method that allows me to track that internal interface (Gi0/1) and trigger a failover if it goes down.

Cisco Firewall :: Adding Failover ASA 5510 Back After Configuration Changes On Primary

Nov 28, 2012

I had a working active/passive pair of ASA5510's, and then I had to do a rush firmware upgrade, but didn't have time to do it on the secondary at the same time.  Now I have made config changes and upgraded the secondary firmware to be the same, and wish to know if I plug it back in if it will think the secondary has the "correct" config or if it will know that the primary is newer.  I disconnected the failover cable because it was complaining about version mismatches constantly.

Is it safe to add the secondary back in or is it possible it will be declared newer and overwrite the config?

Cisco WAN :: Loading Configuration From Flash Card In 2811 Router?

Jun 6, 2011

have remote routers boot and load a config from the flash card. It seems this is possible if the Flash Class is A, according to the Cisco web site using the

boot config flash:<Config file>

where <Config file> is the file on the flash.

Although this can be applied on 2811 routers, they fail to load the file on the flash card. I've since found that this router type has a Class C flash. So the question is, can either:

Is there a similar process for other classes of Flash cards, specifically Class C?

or

The router flash be set as a Class A to support this functionality,

The preferred resolution for this would be the first as there are many remote routers installed a diverse and difficult locations to visit, should a format/rebuild of the flash fail for some reason.

don't ask to list the output of a show boot or show bootvar, neither of these commands work. The Startup/Running config lists the boot config line.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2811 Router - VLAN 531 Configuration

May 22, 2013

I have a Cisco 2811 Router. I have two VLANS on the router. The first one of course is VLAN 1 and the second one is one that I created from reading everything from this forum.. it is called VLAN 531

On VLAN one I have an IP address of 10.8.1.1 and on VLAN 531 I have an IP Address of 172.16.1.1, now what I can do is this... I can.. from a workstation on the 10.8.0.0 segment, ping 172.16.1.1 and one server on that segment that has an IP address of 172.16.1.50, which is fine, but what I really want to be able to do is ping our email server which is on a 10.21.0.0 segment and I cannot. Any commands on what I would need to do to make this work as I would like the 172.16.0.0 segment to ping any other part of my LAN of my choosing.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2811 With 16 Port Switch Module Configuration?

May 12, 2013

I have a laptop with a single physical NIC which I have used the advanced management tools to create two virtual NICs (say vlan 10 and vlan 20) and both are on the same subnet (say 192.168.4.x). One NIC is for normal TCP/IP traffic and one is for broadcast/multicast traffic (I have some custom software that requires this to be the case and works fine on an older laptops with built-in physical NIC and PCMCIA XIRCOM NIC). The dual NIC laptop communicates with a dual NIC server via a Cisco 2811 router (which has a 16 port switch module at the back) and has vlans set up so.

What I want is for the single NIC laptop (with two virtual NICs) to be able to also communicate with the server. Basically, one NIC is for normal traffic and one is for multicast/broadcast traffic. All three machines need to be able to talk to each other using the NIC for normal traffic and both laptops must be able to receive broadcasts from the server. What is the best way to configure the router to handle the trunking/tagging? Most configuration documentation I read has two complete subnets for the two virtual NICs. Note that all three machines use static IPs and are part of a workgroup so no DNS and domain servers etc.
