May 22, 2013I have a Cisco 2811 Router. I have two VLANS on the router. The first one of course is VLAN 1 and the second one is one that I created from reading everything from this forum.. it is called VLAN 531
On VLAN one I have an IP address of 10.8.1.1 and on VLAN 531 I have an IP Address of 172.16.1.1, now what I can do is this... I can.. from a workstation on the 10.8.0.0 segment, ping 172.16.1.1 and one server on that segment that has an IP address of 172.16.1.50, which is fine, but what I really want to be able to do is ping our email server which is on a 10.21.0.0 segment and I cannot. Any commands on what I would need to do to make this work as I would like the 172.16.0.0 segment to ping any other part of my LAN of my choosing.

May 12, 2013I have a laptop with a single physical NIC which I have used the advanced management tools to create two virtual NICs (say vlan 10 and vlan 20) and both are on the same subnet (say 192.168.4.x). One NIC is for normal TCP/IP traffic and one is for broadcast/multicast traffic (I have some custom software that requires this to be the case and works fine on an older laptops with built-in physical NIC and PCMCIA XIRCOM NIC). The dual NIC laptop communicates with a dual NIC server via a Cisco 2811 router (which has a 16 port switch module at the back) and has vlans set up so.
What I want is for the single NIC laptop (with two virtual NICs) to be able to also communicate with the server. Basically, one NIC is for normal traffic and one is for multicast/broadcast traffic. All three machines need to be able to talk to each other using the NIC for normal traffic and both laptops must be able to receive broadcasts from the server. What is the best way to configure the router to handle the trunking/tagging? Most configuration documentation I read has two complete subnets for the two virtual NICs. Note that all three machines use static IPs and are part of a workgroup so no DNS and domain servers etc.

My hardware supplier tells me its the right adsl card (have 1 existing working card not the same) but the card will not detect on the system to be configured.is this the right card? am I missing something?

Oct 15, 2012I have recently implimented an RV016 device into our network. We have a bonded T1 service with Paetec/Windstream (5 static IPs) and also a cable connection with Comcast (no static IP). The T1 has been our primary connection, and our MX and A records all use this IP address. I have the rules set and using a one-to-one NAT setup with our 5 IPs. Everything is working great with the T1 in place and email is flowing with no problems, however when I connect the cable into the WAN2 port and try to send email, its using that outbound connection, rather then the T1 and our spam filter is blocking it. So the email is rejected and we get this message below.

The reason for being rejected is just because it doesn't recongnize the IP address/gateway it is coming from.
My question is, how do I define that all email is sent out through our T1 connections IP address in the router?I see options for Advanced Routing or Bandwidth Management, but not sure what one I need to configure as I am not too familiar with these settings. I have Intelligent Balancer(Auto Mode) enabled as well by default.
The reason for adding the second internet connection is strictly for load balencing and getting some more bandwidth in our location.

Jun 24, 2012In IOS verson 12.X there was a Bidirectional Forwarding Detection configuration however in IOS 15.0 this isn't available at least not with the same syntax. Is this feature not available in 15.0?
In 12.X this was the syntax of the command:switch virtual domain <number>.

Feb 24, 2013I have a two fiber connection from our Central Office(6513) to Remote office (6509). I have a requirement that on the remote office if one of the fiber goes down, the second fiber should work as a failover. I am planning to use SUP720-3B SFP to connect to the CO.
Can I connet one fiber to Sup720-3b G5/1 & another fiber connection to G5/2? or Can I connet one fiber to Sup720-3b G5/1 & another fiber connection to G6/2? I am running EIGRP between sites. Any sample config.

Feb 19, 2012I would like to make a design with 4 Nexus 5596UP. 2 of them equipped with Layer 3 Expansion Module so they can serve as core layer and the other 2 Nexus used as Layer 2 for aggregation server layer.The 2 Nexus in the core layer will run HSRP and will peer with ISP via BGP for Internet connection The 2 Nexus in the aggregation layer will be configured as layer 2 device and have FEX and switches connected to them.What I am ensure of is how the vpc and port-channel configuration should look like between the 4 nexus. What I was thinking is to run vpc between the 2 Nexus in the aggregation layer and between the 2 Nexus in the core layer. Than I was thinking of connecting each Nexus in the aggragtion layer to both Nexus in the core layer using port-channel and vice-versa.

My manager reconsidered my recommendation of dual WAN routers but told me we had limited budget so could only afford one new router.
So now we are looking at solution of 2811 + 2911 with same license level. We don't have any special feature, just basic routing, basic BGP and static routes. I need to know what the implication of having different WAN router model is.

Aug 15, 2012In the existing network we have Cisco 2811 router connected to Corporate MPLS cloud. Cisco 2811 is connected to Catalyst 6509 switch(set based IOS with MSFC card). Along with that we have two Catalyst 5509. We are upgrading the access layer by replacing catalyst switches with Nexus 5548 & 2248.
For a purpose of testing I have connected 5548 & 2248. Created cPC and ether channels between two. SVI and HSRP configuredon 5548. I am terminating 2651 (test router) on 2248 port 101/1/1. On 5548 I have enabled EIGRP on vlans. I am unable to ping to 2651 from nexus switch 5548 and vice-versa. I can see both devices on CDP but I do not see eigrp neighborship formed.
What configuration should go in 2248 and 2651 in order to establish a connection between two? If test is successful then I will connect 2811 to 2248 during actual migration. I assume that in testing if it works for 2651 then it must work on 2811 router.

Feb 21, 2013I run 2 RV042 V1 for home and office with Gateway to Gateway VPN connection with single WAN connection in use. Everything works like a charm!
I was even able to create VPN connection with 2 WAN connection on one Router and 1 WAN connection on another with Smart link failover and VPN Tunel Backup.

So basically I now have 2 ISP connections on each point with Static IPs and I'd like VPN Connection to be alive for ALL 4 options automatically with failovers (smart links) And tunel backups but i'm not sure if that's ever possible with my equipment.

Nov 20, 2011I have several Cisco 2811 ISR Routers that are functioning as CallManager MGCP voice gateways. These routers have prtial PRI's attached to them which I realize are not supported by Cisco CallManager using MGCP. The problem is that whenever the router gets rebooted, the configuration under Controller T1 ends up with the improper PRI Timeslots command and I have to go in and manually change it. Solution: I have developed smal text files for each router that contains all of the commends needed to get the chnage accomplished (you have to shut down things and remove lines elsewhere to be able to change the PRI Timeslots) and I just telnet to the router and cut and paste the commands into the router.However, I would like to store those files on the router in such a way that I could telenet to the router and then either somehow display the file and then copy/paste it in or possible have a file that could be run to make the changes. That way I could do the job quickly fram anyplace I could telnet to the router and not have to have the text files on the local machine.

Jun 7, 2013Basically I have a simple LAN of 30 users and 2 servers that sit on a private address range (192.168.1.1 - 254). I have a Cisco 1921 router with 2 Gigabit Ethnet interfaces and have installed a 2 port Ethernet module to expand interfaces,I have Two Internet providers that provide me an Optic connection to a converter and then a CAT 5 cable. On both of these connections have private public assigned IP addresses.I have a email server and webserver on the LAN (192.168.2 and 192.168.1.3) and with to port forward various ports to these servers - 25, 80, 443 3389, and 2222.
In my external DNS I have two MX records for the mail server (mail.globalhomegroup.com) that point to 2 A records - one record for the publicly assigned IP address of one ISP and another IP address for the other ISP. Ideally what i would like is for mail to be delivered to the first ISP Ip address - the one with the lower MX weighting and then if that line goes down, through the IP address of the second MX record - the backup ISP we are using.
So I guess I am port forwarding to the inetrnal server IP addresses via one of the two external interfaces.At the same time I need to allow internal users to access HTTP, HTTPS etc.So I have managed somehow to configure the external interfaces of the routers to connect to the ISPs and have managed to assign IP info to intenral LAN interface. I can telnet to the router from the Internet via Dialer0 or Dialer1. Other than that I am totally stuck - I have tried to configure and debug NAT etc but cant see wood for the trees now. Basically the port forwarding is not working and i am not sure if the config I have done is in anyway correct.

Jun 6, 2011have remote routers boot and load a config from the flash card. It seems this is possible if the Flash Class is A, according to the Cisco web site using the
boot config flash:<Config file>
where <Config file> is the file on the flash.
Although this can be applied on 2811 routers, they fail to load the file on the flash card. I've since found that this router type has a Class C flash. So the question is, can either:
Is there a similar process for other classes of Flash cards, specifically Class C?

The router flash be set as a Class A to support this functionality,
The preferred resolution for this would be the first as there are many remote routers installed a diverse and difficult locations to visit, should a format/rebuild of the flash fail for some reason.
don't ask to list the output of a show boot or show bootvar, neither of these commands work. The Startup/Running config lists the boot config line.

Jun 6, 2012I'm trying to see if I can use both ethernet ports on a 2811 to run hsrp for non-stacked dual switch fail over. Then link the the NM-32A ports to L0, so the remote access server trying to use them can use the l0 ip and failover much faster (it's programming is limited). This is on IOS 12.4(25)f, though we are moving to 15 soon.
