Dec 14, 2011i have question about router 2811, for now, all HWIC in 2811 is full,
Slot 0 : VIC2-2E/M
Slot 1 : VIC2-2E/M
Slot 2 : WIC-1T=
Slot 3 : HWIC-1FE
But we need add more 2 module VIC3-2E/M. can we use Network Module ? example : add one NM-HD-2V + two VIC3-2E/M ?
Can we do that? and whether it is the same as we use the VIC2-2E / M on HWIC slots

May 12, 2013I have a laptop with a single physical NIC which I have used the advanced management tools to create two virtual NICs (say vlan 10 and vlan 20) and both are on the same subnet (say 192.168.4.x). One NIC is for normal TCP/IP traffic and one is for broadcast/multicast traffic (I have some custom software that requires this to be the case and works fine on an older laptops with built-in physical NIC and PCMCIA XIRCOM NIC). The dual NIC laptop communicates with a dual NIC server via a Cisco 2811 router (which has a 16 port switch module at the back) and has vlans set up so.
What I want is for the single NIC laptop (with two virtual NICs) to be able to also communicate with the server. Basically, one NIC is for normal traffic and one is for multicast/broadcast traffic. All three machines need to be able to talk to each other using the NIC for normal traffic and both laptops must be able to receive broadcasts from the server. What is the best way to configure the router to handle the trunking/tagging? Most configuration documentation I read has two complete subnets for the two virtual NICs. Note that all three machines use static IPs and are part of a workgroup so no DNS and domain servers etc.

On VLAN one I have an IP address of 10.8.1.1 and on VLAN 531 I have an IP Address of 172.16.1.1, now what I can do is this... I can.. from a workstation on the 10.8.0.0 segment, ping 172.16.1.1 and one server on that segment that has an IP address of 172.16.1.50, which is fine, but what I really want to be able to do is ping our email server which is on a 10.21.0.0 segment and I cannot. Any commands on what I would need to do to make this work as I would like the 172.16.0.0 segment to ping any other part of my LAN of my choosing.

Aug 16, 2012I am trying to add WCCP to be configured for websense. My first option seems to be either purchase an IPServices license for the stack of 3750E switches, but i am thinking this will require us to license all three switches in the stack. The second option i am looking at is to do the WCCP configuration on the 2800 router we have on the edge. The problem is both Gig ports are in use, one going to the firewall and the second going to the ISP. My first question would be, which option is better in terms of manging as well as cost of implementing it.The second question is, if WCCP on the router is a better option, what is the add on module i should be looking to get to add the additional ports to hook up the Websense cache.

Sep 4, 2012 how this switch module works in 2911 router? I have two 2911 routers in HSRP configuration for redundancy with crossover cable between switch modules. OSPF running on routers.If active router loses its power and then comes back again, it boots first, its internal link to switch module comes up and it starts to forward packets to switch module. The switch module starts to boot only after router is ready. So I have outage of about 3-4 minutes. For our real-time applications it is way too long.
any way to start booting of the switch module before router gets ready?I understand I can boot it manually, but it is only after router is ready. Only way to get around it I found is to disable internal link and use router interface to connect to the switch module.

Aug 15, 2012In the existing network we have Cisco 2811 router connected to Corporate MPLS cloud. Cisco 2811 is connected to Catalyst 6509 switch(set based IOS with MSFC card). Along with that we have two Catalyst 5509. We are upgrading the access layer by replacing catalyst switches with Nexus 5548 & 2248.
For a purpose of testing I have connected 5548 & 2248. Created cPC and ether channels between two. SVI and HSRP configuredon 5548. I am terminating 2651 (test router) on 2248 port 101/1/1. On 5548 I have enabled EIGRP on vlans. I am unable to ping to 2651 from nexus switch 5548 and vice-versa. I can see both devices on CDP but I do not see eigrp neighborship formed.
What configuration should go in 2248 and 2651 in order to establish a connection between two? If test is successful then I will connect 2811 to 2248 during actual migration. I assume that in testing if it works for 2651 then it must work on 2811 router.

Oct 26, 2011i am currently trying to configure a four port ISDN BRI interface on a Cisco 2811 router.Upon upgrading to a later version of IOS, c2800nm-advipservicesk9-mz.124-25d.bin, access to the HWIC-4B-S/T module is lost, the router no longer detects it. In fact iI can only get the router to detect the module using the original IOS version c2800nm-advipservicesk9-mz.124-20.YA3.bin.
Is there some special feature needed in the IOS code to support these modules, if so what would be a suitable version/train to upgrade to?I have tried using the Cisco Software advisor tool but it generates an error when searching on a hardware configuration containing this module type.
The reason for upgrading the code is we have a potential bug with the current version which appears to be preventing the BRI interface syncing up with the providers switch (switch type correctly defined and provider confirms isdn line has been provisioned correctly).
The debug error seen is:

My main question though is why the module is not being detected after a code upgrade and if there is a specific code version/train needed to support this module in a 2811?
