Cisco Switching/Routing :: Calculating 4500X Power Consumption Requirements To Select Appropriate UPS Systems

Jun 2, 2013

I am calculating Cisco 4500X power consumption requirements to select appropriate UPS systems. I have 4500X switch with dual power supplies.which value should I take for power consumption calculation, in data sheet it has two values: AC Power Max Rating: 750W System Power Consumption: 330W nominal/400W max

Which values should I take, to calculate UPS systems capacity? And also I am interesting when 4500x has two power supplies what is power consumption?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Calculating Power Requirements For WS-C3750X-48PF-L

May 3, 2012

I want to chose the right UPS product for 7 x WS-C3750X-48PF-L in one stack. The Cisco data sheet says 1100W AC, however, I am only connecting 20 IP Phones, each phone will consume around 12.2 Watts.

So in this case, How many watts would I need for the whole 7 switches in the stack ?

in other words, only the first switch in the stack will be connected to 20 IP Phones, but the remaining switches in the stack will be Data Only thought the remaining switches in the stack are capable of delivering a full PoE.

the power consumption of the WS-C3750X-48PF-L with only data connected to it.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Power Consumption On 4507R

Aug 2, 2010

We are planning for the office move and I need to estimate how much power we need to run a fully populated Cat4507R switch. The chassis include 2 Sups, one 6-port fiber line card, two 48-port Gig and two 48-port FastEthernet line cards. The switch also has redundant power supply (4200ACV 1400W). According to Cisco Power Calculator [URL], I need 49.5 amp 110-120V circuit. It seems to be too much higher than real world. How many 20amp circuit we would need when all the ports are fully utilized?

Two interfaces are in Interface group, but from 45 clients only few of them has IP address from one subnet, others have from second sub.I see requirements for this to work is 32 MB of flash on LWAP devices..I only have 16 MB.. upgrade of flash on devices or something ?

May 4, 2011

regarding the power requirements. I have this Cisco 6503-E switch and I need to know what I need in terms of power.

The manual says if using 120VAC, I will need 16A. If using 230VAC, the unit will require 8A.

I have 2 dedicated 20amps circuits both at 120V. Am I correct on plugging each of the power supplies of the cisco unit to each of these circuits?

Another question will be, do I really need to dedicated 2 dedicated 20amps circuits for the unit? Can't I just use one dedicated 20amps circtuis and connect both power supplies to it?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Management IP On 4500X When VLAN Gateway Is A SVI?

Dec 5, 2012

I'm trying to figure out how to (or if I can) setup the management interfaces (fa1) on a couple of new 4500X switches. My issue is that the 4500X's themselves are the gateway for my management VLAN (.1 HSRP virtual, .2 and .3 SVIs on the pair of switches).

I would like to assign addresses from the management VLAN to the router Fa1 management interfaces but the software configuration guide seems to note this is not supported (and indeed it doesn't seem to work).

Physically I have Fa1 from core-1 into a port on an adjacent switch. Fa1 from core-2 also goes into a port on that adjacent switch. Both are in my management VLAN, whose SVIs are on the cores themselves.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6509 Matching A Device To Bandwidth Consumption

Sep 18, 2012

My company is composed of three different campuses, all with a similar network topology. We currently are experiencing high bandwidth on our serial interface at one of the campuses in particular. The network is composed of about 20 VLANS routed internally using a Cisco 6509. Traffic to the outside is PAT’d by an ASA 5510 and then forwarded through our edge router interface. Each VLAN is PAT’d to a specific public address.Due to the PAT, how would you recommend determining what specific private addresses are consuming our resources on the serial interface. When I look at our NMS, it reports the public address, but that only narrows it down to a VLAN. For example, all the devices in VLAN 6 are translated to 146.34.118.245, and 146.34.11.245 is a top talker.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4500X EtherChannel Symmetric Load Balancing

May 8, 2013

I have probem with symmetric load balancig, in case when both ends of ether channel are on the sam switch (we are using VLAN translation). We need to create L2 port channel with both ends on same switch (Cisco WS-C4500X-24X-ES), for example:Po1 – Gi0/1, Gi0/3 (one end of port channel )Po2 – Gi0/2, Gi0/4 (other end of port channel)On ports in Po2 we will configure VLAN mapping. My question is what is the best ether-channel load-balancing scheme with wich we can accomplish full symmetry in both directions? For example, if traffic in one direction goes through Gi0/1 (member of Po1), in other direction also must go through Gi0/1. This is required because we need to connect four appliances for DPI (they are full L2 transparent) and traffic through each appliance need to be symmetric.

I can set-up src-ip, dst-ip, src-dst-ip etc. load balancing, but, actually I need src-ip on Po1 and dst-ip on Po2. Is there any way to set up different load balancing mechanism for different ether channel on same switch (4500X).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: How To Setup Traffic Shaping On 4500X Outbound Port To WAN Routers

Mar 26, 2013

We have some ASR WAN routers which have a dedicated 400M interface to a remote site.

Servers on our Local network source the data through some firewalls via 10G interfaces, which connects to 4500X WAN switches then to the Routers on 1G links.

The sources are rate limiting the traffic but the routers are periodically dropping packets which I think is mostly due to burstiness in the traffic between as it traverses through from 10G links to 1G then to 400M.

How to setup traffic shaping on the 4500X outbound port to our WAN routers.I'd like to see if we could buffer and smoothe out the traffic as it exits the 4500X WAN switch 1G port to the WAN Routers.

I can't find them any where on the Linksys site.  I Have looked and searched and nowhere can I find a consolidate list.

Any have a list of the DC power Specifications, Barrel sizes, and other stuff needed to buy a replacement Power adapter. This page url...lists a lot of information but does not list this critical information... I am amazed that Linksys does not have it listed some where here.  Losing a wall wart should not be a reason to pull you hair out, just a simple purchase,  If they don't want to stock them, then at least tell us what they are.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750X / QoS Preservation Of Markings Between Two End Systems?

Apr 25, 2012

I have a requirement to preserve markings end to end across a network utilising 3750X switches, I am marking the packets without a problem, but due to the rewriting function the marking is being overwritten by ther COS-->DSCP maps.To simplify the scenario I have set up a test environment (see Diagram) and am using ICMP as a simple test using ICMP to test with Both 3750 have 12.2(35)SE5 3750-1

mls qos
mls qos rewrite ip dscp
 ip access-list extended ICMP
permit icmp any any
 Class-map ICMP
match access-group name ICMP

[code]....

I have used wireshark to verify that the packets are being marked, with the' mls qos rewrite ip dscp' they are, without rewriting does not occur.Moving my sniffer to the 3750-2 I am monitoring the Layer3 connection (marking preserved), however on the layer 2 trunk the marking has been reset to 0 , if I remove the 'mls qos rewrite ip dscp' from 3750-2 then I see the marking on the layer 2 trunk, however I am then unable to remark anything generated on this switch. I believe with the 'mls qos rewrite ip dscp' enabled the L3 to L2 transistion removes the IP DSCP sets the COS to 0 and themnthe COS to DSCP mapping ensures the DSCP is set back to 0.I have tried implementing additional marking policies on 3750-2 but to no avail. What I need is ensuring that that a frame / packet marked in 3750-1 can keep it's marking to the end system over layer 3 and a layer 2 trunk. The only place I wan t the marking to be stripped off is when the dot1q tag is removed as it goes through an access port.
