Cisco Firewall :: How Many Watts Required - ASA 5505 Power Consumption

Jan 20, 2013

My ASA 5505 getting pretty hot after a while and so I used a wattmeter to find out what´s happening.

260 watts is quite a lot if the device is running in idle mode and has no active device attached nor any config has been installed.

What's your experience of the ASA 5505 power consumption ?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Power Consumption On 4507R

Aug 2, 2010

We are planning for the office move and I need to estimate how much power we need to run a fully populated Cat4507R switch. The chassis include 2 Sups, one 6-port fiber line card, two 48-port Gig and two 48-port FastEthernet line cards. The switch also has redundant power supply (4200ACV 1400W). According to Cisco Power Calculator [URL], I need 49.5 amp 110-120V circuit. It seems to be too much higher than real world. How many 20amp circuit we would need when all the ports are fully utilized?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5505 Dual WAN Settings Required

Feb 27, 2012

I have a 5505 configured with a active/standby dual wan setup using the sla tracked connection settings. Is there a way to configure the ASA to stay on the backup connection after activating? We had a situation where the main T1 was bouncing, so the backup connection was being activated and deactivated very often. The problem is that there is an app being used that does not allow users to reconnect to dropped connections immediately, so every time the asa switches wan connections it causes a significant disruption.I should note that I already set monitor options frequency to 240 seconds. I could set it higher, but then we have a longer delay when the main connection dies.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: How Much Power Required From Utility Or UPS For 4510R Switch

Nov 13, 2011

We have one switch 4510R which could have total 300 cisco GE color phone connected. That means 300x15.4=4620W. Considering the 89% effiency for the PoE line cards, that means each line card needs 5191W input power from chasis power supply. Based on the 6000W power supply specs, only up to 4800W is allocated for PoE purpose. But we need 5191W from power supply which redundant mode can't offer. We don't want to go with combined mode. So should we add external power shelf to add more power?Another question will be how much power we need from utility or UPS. For example, the efficency of cisco power supply is 75% and we use two 6000W power supplies in redudant mode. Then we need 8000W. The voltage is 220V. Then the AMP we need is 36.4A from UPS or utility power.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2960 - How Much POE Watts Can Be Reduced On Certain Devices

Jun 21, 2012

I'm getting currently installing a full Valcom IP sound and clock system , along with all new Cisco 2960 gig ps-l switches. All devices run off of POE. In the past, I have read that most AP's only draw approx. 12.5 watts (va's). But you must take into account length of wire to add your additional draw which puts you at the 14.5 they auto draw.  My question being that the clocks I have auto draw 15.4 watts, which is eating up my 370w of power on my switches. The spec sheet on the clocks show only a power consumption of 4.5 watts.  So today I turned a few ports down to 4.5 watts and everything still worked fine.. Any experience by chance with Valcom devices or just turning the power down on devices in general? I can imagine that a clock is drawing enough to care about the length of the wire run.

Cisco Firewall :: Pix 515 Configuration Required

Oct 18, 2011

I am very confused on how I setup a Pix 515 that I just got to route traffic out a cable modem. First, let me give you a little details on my current network setup and what I am trying to accomplish with this Pix 515. Currently all my users go out the proxy for any internet access, however I have certain users that need to go out the cable modem instead of the proxy server. Below is an example of the current IP setup of a user A:The cable modem that we currently have has DHCP so I would need the external PIX address to accept a DHCP address. I also don't really understand what else I need to setup so if I have say four users hitting the cable modem through the pix how do I direct their web traffic to the correct computer (NAT ?),I will be plugging the PIX into a cisco switch that all ports are in VLAN 48 so hopefully a static internal address on the pix of 10.24.48.254 will keep me from having to do any routes since all traffic will be originating from the 10.24.48.0 network.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA Software 8.2 And Earlier Required

Jan 10, 2012

I'm in the process of migrating a rather big NAT configuration from a customer running pre 8.2 ASA software. The customer has 2 Dynamic Policy NAT configured which have overlapping source addressesOther Dynamic Policy NAT has the destination address of "any"

Other Dynamic Policy NAT has a single host address as destination address towards InternetThe Dynamic Policy NAT configured with the "any" destination is applied to all translations for the source host towards Internet

What I'm interested in is the following

Since both NAT statements are equal in a sense (because they are of same type) what is the next deciding factor for ASA decides which translation rule to use?

Does the "nat_id" parameter define which rule is checked first? Is the NAT rule with the lowest "nat_id" value used regardless what the order of the NAT rules is when you check them on the CLI? (with "show run global" and "show run nat")I'm just interested on how the NAT operates in this case, even though were generally using 8.4 at the moment.

SBS 2008 Ram Consumption

Aug 20, 2012

I have a SBS 2008 box at a clients with 16 gig of ram in it. Right now the server is using 88-90% of it's ram. I have checked the device manager to see how much ram the services are using and everything except for a few services are using less then 200,000k each. The exchange store is using around 600,000k which is right in range and then a couple w3wp.exe services are using around 300,000k or less. Now here is where the issue lies 3 SQL engine processes are using a total of around 7 gig of ram. My client runs a custom software that uses sql express to host the database. And I am just wondering if it's normal for SQL to use this much ram in 2008 or should I be talking to the software company about the large consumption. It's basically using half of the available ram on the server. I did upgrade this machine from 8 gig ram about 9 months ago and it was fine for a while then all the sudden SQL just started eating more ram to point where we are today.
