Are all ports on Catalyst 4500X Gigabit/10-Gigabit or just the ports on 8-port module. We are looking at 4500X for campus distribution layer but need Gig ports to access switches for now and may year from now will be using 10G.
View 7 Repliesim currenly configuring a 4500X with 16 port. All sfp are 1Gig, but when I input show ip int brief, it shows that the interfaces are on 10 Gig. Does Catalyst 4500X already support the 1Gig SFP without inputting a command or do I have to configure it to activate the 1Gig interface?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI can assign IP addresses to any of the 24 FastEthernet ports (it is a 24 port switch!). However, I have fitted the WS-G5482 Gigabit adaptor to give me Gig ethernet capability. It does not seem to be possible to assign an IP address to the adaptor.I realise that as it is an 'add on module' (well, a plug in module) this is different to the 24 port in the 'body' of the switch. I also have read that these Gig adaptors will only connect to other Gig adaptors (I found that out by trial and error, and then confirmed it by searching here).it's not possible to assign an IP addy to one of the plug in modules; it is not a big deal but I am planning to assign some IP addresses for remote management etc. I was going to use the Gig port for this but it may not be possible.
AH PS I am using the switch and connecting to the internet via the Gig adaptor, then out from one of the fastethernet ports to another little switch and then on to a router and out to the internet, so the switch and the plug in module are working fine.
I am trying to test the gigabit ports on a Cisco 2950 switch. 1000Base-SX. I have the internet or dhcp server connected to port 24 on the first switch and my pc hooked up to the (any) port on the second switch. Both switchs are connected with a fiberoptic cable with MTRJ connectors on either side.
Now when I use gi0/2 on both switchs all works fine. I get a dhcp address from the router on the other end of the first switch. but when ever I include gi0/1 on either end of the fiber optic cable neither of the ports will initialize (neither of the leds above the ports light up). I have deleted all the config files before booting up the switchs so they should have a default blank configuration.
When looking at the Http web page for the switch I dont see any issues with the port. what can I do to make sure these ports are working or can be configured?
I will not be able to post back any more information about the switch until next tuesday. Im off till then.
I have two switches, WS-3750-24PS-S connected in two cabs via fiber. Patch panels at both ends with patch leads. Used tester to confirm end to end fiber connectivity. When plugged in, one switch lights up the other does nothing.
Ports are as follows:
interface GigabitEthernet1/0/2
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
same at both ends. Tried both GI ports same result. swapped transceivers over and the same result, (one switch lit one not - the same switch in both cases). put both transceiver in each switch, (gi0/1-0/2 in a single switch). on the one that lights up in the original scenario we get link on both ports and they come up, on the other nothing happens. shut down both ports on the malfunctioning switch and no shut them, no change.
Show transceivers doesn't show transceivers on the malfunctioning switch, and no attempt is made to bring the ports up if the fiber is removed and replaced.
it is almost as though the two gb ports are kaput. Anything else I can try?
I use one cisco 6506-e switch with modules (including two sup720-3B,one 6148-GE-TX,one 6724-SFP), and Thomson ViSE EM1000 encoder connect to 6148-GE-TX module with its two Gigibit RJ45 ports,Video picture can appear,but it isn't active.If connect to 6724-SFP module with GLC-T transceiver,It is OK. configure speed 1000 on the 6148 interface? configure full-duplex on the 6148 interface?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI work at a hospital and we have 3750X-48P switches in stacks in various locations throughout the hospital. We have noticed that when an EKG machine is plugged into one of the ports on some of these switches and the EKG machines are set manually to 100/Full, the ports are no longer usable until the switch is restarted. The switch is configured for auto. If the EKG machine is set to auto, it will work and not cause problems. The link on the interface will show up/up and there will be output packets increasing. However, there will be no inputs on the link and the port is unusable. Unfortunately, even when the device is removed, the port becomes unusable for any device. Is there any way to fix this problem without rebooting the switch?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Cisco Catalyst 4507R+E (with Sup7-E) and two blades; one WS-X4748-RJ45V+E and one WS-X4648-RJ45-E.
When I connect a device to a port on the WS-X4748-RJ45V+E blade the port will not come up, show interface shows the status as "notconnect". When I connect the same device to the WS-X4648-RJ45-E blade the interface comes up.
The WS-X4748-RJ45V+E blade seems to have initialised okay, it appears in the output of "show module" as OK.
I get exactly the same effect on a second, identically configured Catalyst 4507R+E.
The software version is IOS XE 3.1.0SG, which according to the release notes supports the WS-X4748-RJ45V+E blade
I have a Cisco Catalyst 2960 series switch. When I connect another switch or a VMWare Esx server on one of the ports, the port blinks for few seconds and then goes off. When I connect a desktop or laptop or a windows server the ports stay led and I can access resources on the network. However, when connect another switch or a vmware esx server, the port is disabled.
What config in the switch can I check to make sure the ports stay on regardless when I connect a desktop / laptop, switch or vmware server?
We've got a doubt about the uplink ports of this supervisor. I've read that you have to use the four ports in 10G mode or in 1G mode, but not use for example 1 port in 10G mode and 1 port in 1G mode:
But, you can read in another sentence: " Beginning with Cisco IOS Release 12.2(25)SG, you could simultaneously deploy the dual 10-Gigabit.Ethernet ports and the four Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports on the Catalyst 4503, Catalyst 4506, and Catalyst 4507R chassis." Is it posible deploy simultaneously both type of ports?
Can I have three 4500X in VSS? or is the limit two? Do I need a different license or a specific IOS?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out how to (or if I can) setup the management interfaces (fa1) on a couple of new 4500X switches. My issue is that the 4500X's themselves are the gateway for my management VLAN (.1 HSRP virtual, .2 and .3 SVIs on the pair of switches).
I would like to assign addresses from the management VLAN to the router Fa1 management interfaces but the software configuration guide seems to note this is not supported (and indeed it doesn't seem to work).
Physically I have Fa1 from core-1 into a port on an adjacent switch. Fa1 from core-2 also goes into a port on that adjacent switch. Both are in my management VLAN, whose SVIs are on the cores themselves.
I am interesting if 3560x supports ePAgP. I have VSS which is formed by two 4500x switches. Can I use 3560x, which is connected two both VSS members via 10Gb optics for Dual Active detection ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have probem with symmetric load balancig, in case when both ends of ether channel are on the sam switch (we are using VLAN translation).We need to create L2 port channel with both ends on same switch (Cisco WS-C4500X-24X-ES), for example:Po1 – Gi0/1, Gi0/3 (one end of port channel )Po2 – Gi0/2, Gi0/4 (other end of port channel)On ports in Po2 we will configure VLAN mapping.My question is what is the best ether-channel load-balancing scheme with wich we can accomplish full symmetry in both directions? For example, if traffic in one direction goes through Gi0/1 (member of Po1), in other direction also must go through Gi0/1. This is required because we need to connect four appliances for DPI (they are full L2 transparent) and traffic through each appliance need to be symmetric.
I can set-up src-ip, dst-ip, src-dst-ip etc. load balancing, but, actually I need src-ip on Po1 and dst-ip on Po2. Is there any way to set up different load balancing mechanism for different ether channel on same switch (4500X).

Servers on our Local network source the data through some firewalls via 10G interfaces, which connects to 4500X WAN switches then to the Routers on 1G links.
The sources are rate limiting the traffic but the routers are periodically dropping packets which I think is mostly due to burstiness in the traffic between as it traverses through from 10G links to 1G then to 400M.
How to setup traffic shaping on the 4500X outbound port to our WAN routers.I'd like to see if we could buffer and smoothe out the traffic as it exits the 4500X WAN switch 1G port to the WAN Routers.

I have ge0/0 setup as my internal network and is running dhcp, ge0/1 is the connection to the modem. I can't figure out how to configure the connections so my internal traffic on ge0/0 routes out through ge0/1.

how the ASR1000s are being setup.I am looking at ASR1000s as part of network refresh and was looking at RJ-45 based Gigabit Ethernet ports compatible with the ASR1000s SPA-5X1GE-V2 seems to be an option but they are all SFPs. Are there any options for RJ-45 ones on ASR1000s?
There is an option for the 2 port where one can mix and match SFPs and RJ45 but I was looking for something which is RJ45 only.Are there any options for them available.I know I could get something with FastEthernet type but was looking for the GigabitEthernet type.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a number of 3845 routers, some running IOS 12.4(22)T2 and earlier and some running 12.4(24)T4. On the ones with 12.4(22)T2 and earlier, gigabit interface g0/1 shows interface down/line protocol down when there is no cable connected to the interface and the interface is not in shutdown state. On the ones with 12.4(24)T4, gigabit interface g0/1 shows interface up/line protocol down when there is no cable connected to the interface and the interface is not in shutdown state. Interestingly in both cases, the "show controller g0/1" command shows " network link is down (NO CARRIER)" when there is no cable attached. It makes sense to us that the interface status would be down/down when there is no cable attached. It does not makes sense to us that the interace would be up/down. Did Cisco at some point change their philosophy on whether an interface should show down/down or up/down when there is no cable attached, or is this a bug?
