Cisco Switching/Routing :: Gigabit Ports Not Working On 2950?

I am trying to test the gigabit ports on a Cisco 2950 switch. 1000Base-SX. I have the internet or dhcp server connected to port 24 on the first switch and my pc hooked up to the (any) port on the second switch. Both switchs are connected with a fiberoptic cable with MTRJ connectors on either side.
Now when I use gi0/2 on both switchs all works fine. I get a dhcp address from the router on the other end of the first switch. but when ever I include gi0/1 on either end of the fiber optic cable neither of the ports will initialize (neither of the leds above the ports light up). I have deleted all the config files before booting up the switchs so they should have a default blank configuration.
When looking at the Http web page for the switch I dont see any issues with the port. what can I do to make sure these ports are working or can be configured?
I will not be able to post back any more information about the switch until next tuesday. Im off till then.

I have two switches, WS-3750-24PS-S connected in two cabs via fiber. Patch panels at both ends with patch leads. Used tester to confirm end to end fiber connectivity. When plugged in, one switch lights up the other does nothing.
Ports are as follows:
interface GigabitEthernet1/0/2
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
same at both ends. Tried both GI ports same result. swapped transceivers over and the same result, (one switch lit one not - the same switch in both cases). put both transceiver in each switch, (gi0/1-0/2 in a single switch). on the one that lights up in the original scenario we get link on both ports and they come up, on the other nothing happens. shut down both ports on the malfunctioning switch and no shut them, no change.
Show transceivers doesn't show transceivers on the malfunctioning switch, and no attempt is made to bring the ports up if the fiber is removed and replaced.
it is almost as though the two gb ports are kaput. Anything else I can try?

I am having 2950 Cisco switch. After completing the boot process LAN Ports are working for few minutes afterwards Ports are going into Orange Signal Mode.

Are all ports on Catalyst 4500X Gigabit/10-Gigabit or just the ports on 8-port module. We are looking at 4500X for campus distribution layer but need Gig ports to access switches for now and may year from now will be using 10G.

I use one cisco 6506-e switch with modules (including two sup720-3B,one 6148-GE-TX,one 6724-SFP), and Thomson ViSE EM1000 encoder connect to 6148-GE-TX module with its two Gigibit RJ45 ports,Video picture can appear,but it isn't active.If connect to 6724-SFP module with GLC-T transceiver,It is OK. configure speed 1000 on the 6148 interface? configure full-duplex on the 6148 interface?

I have network consists of more then 20 cisco 2950/2960/3700 switches. I have configured port security in my switches. initially when i configured on my switches it worked fine....even for copule of months it worked fine. but suddenly it start creating issues and now i am not able to implement port security on switches. the configuration is same but there is no effect now. I just upgraded to an E4200 from a D-Link DIR-655. I cannot seem to get my desktop to connect to the E4200 at 1 GBS. My adapter is set to "auto negotiate" but will only connect at 100 MBS. If I try forcing the adapter setting to 1 GBS, it never connects. I can swap out my E4200 with the DIR-655 and it will connect at 1 GBS just fine. I am using a CAT 5E cable. Is there something I'm missing here or is the E4200 just more finicky than the the DIR-655?

Brand new 2960. When I plug a cable into the port, nothing happens. The port light doesn't begin negotiation or anything, it just stays dark. The cable works fine--I have it on another switchport with a crossover connector connecting to a little Cisco SOHO switch without problems.
I've done the following:
switchport
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk allowed vlan 1
no shutdown
In other words, I've fiddled with it. But I don't know why it doesn't light up..

We recently upgraded the switch to which an old security device was connected. It worked fine on the old switch's FastEthernet port, which was configured for speed 10 and duplex half, as that is what the device required. The new switch is a 3560X with all Gigabit ports, but the security device's port, also configured with speed 10 and duplex half, does not connect properly.As a temporary test, we daisychained another switch that has FastEthernet ports, and the security device works again.Is there anything else that needs to be added to the configuration, when using Gigabit ports at 10/half?

I have a cisco 6509 switch in which i have 2 SUPs. I am using 3 Qty. of WS-X6748-GE-TX in the same switch. First 24 ports of module 1 and are not working. I replace the faulty moldule with the working one but now the new (good) module's first 12 ports stopped working. But when I insert the good card (the replaced one with the faulty) in other chassis it works fine.

I have a Cisco Catalyst 4507R+E (with Sup7-E) and two blades; one WS-X4748-RJ45V+E and one WS-X4648-RJ45-E.
When I connect a device to a port on the WS-X4748-RJ45V+E blade the port will not come up, show interface shows the status as "notconnect". When I connect the same device to the WS-X4648-RJ45-E blade the interface comes up.
The WS-X4748-RJ45V+E blade seems to have initialised okay, it appears in the output of "show module" as OK.
I get exactly the same effect on a second, identically configured Catalyst 4507R+E.
The software version is IOS XE 3.1.0SG, which according to the release notes supports the WS-X4748-RJ45V+E blade

The problem I have run into is that I am not getting any connectivity between my two gigabit ports on the 1941. I have ge0/0 setup as my internal network and is running dhcp, ge0/1 is the connection to the modem. I can't figure out how to configure the connections so my internal traffic on ge0/0 routes out through ge0/1.

how the ASR1000s are being setup.I am looking at ASR1000s as part of network refresh and was looking at RJ-45 based Gigabit Ethernet ports compatible with the ASR1000s SPA-5X1GE-V2 seems to be an option but they are all SFPs. Are there any options for RJ-45 ones on ASR1000s?
There is an option for the 2 port where one can mix and match SFPs and RJ45 but I was looking for something which is RJ45 only.Are there any options for them available.I know I could get something with FastEthernet type but was looking for the GigabitEthernet type.

Is there a way to get more messages out of a 2950 set to syslog? I've turned every logging option I can find to DEBUG, but all I get in my syslog are LinkUp/Down messages and "Configured from console by console". I'd love to see more information such as configuration changes, or even someone attempting to set up DTP on a switchport set to access mode.

One of my wi-fi site having 2nos cisco 2950 switchs. in that network some D-link unmanageble swithes also there and access points also connected to cisco switchs and D-link switchs.after one or two days i am not able to connect the wi-fi, then i need to restart the access point then only wi-fi is working fine.I upgraded the latest ios also.I connected some access points to the cisco switch ports, those ports are showing crc error messages like below. I have a server windows 2008 that I would like to have a nic teaming configuration, the server has two nics, each nic is connected to a different switch. One is connected to cisco 2960 and the other is connected to cisco 2950. I have read here in forums about nic teaming but using the same switch. I have not found using different switch. Is this possible?

I have a problem with an etherchannel between a cisco 2950 and a couple of catalyst 4506. The cisco 2950 is connect via an etherchannel to the catalyst 4506A. The channel consist of two port on both side and is in trunk mode, encapsulation dot1q.Now i have the necessity to connect the 2950 to the other catalyst, 4506B. So, i copy the same configuration on the 4506B, but when I unplug the two rj45 cables from the catalyst 4506A to plug them in the 4506B the etherchannel doesn't go up in any way.

Stumped again with my Catalyst 2950. Everything is working perfectly with wan/dhcp/router on fa 0/1 with all ports assigned to vlan1. All devices plugged in connect to the router correctly with ip's being assigned via dhcp.Instead of hooking up by console port I want to be able to SSH or telnet in to the switch using any port while still maintaining the above functionallity. Is it possible to assign a dhcp assigned ip address to vlan 2 and have vlan1 and 2 bridged? Or is there a better way of doing this ?

spam up the boards with the same basic CCNA level stuff, but I have a couple of questions about ios differences, limitations, and references. I have the following three switches. One appears to be considerably dated in regard to software version. My confusion/ignorance stems from managing VTP settings.
2924XL 12.0 5 WC8
2950 12.1 22 EA6
2950 12.1 22 EA6
When I set either 2950 switch as the VTP server, and the other as a client, the client inherits the server settings as expected. However the 2924 requires that I go into the vlan database from priv exec and manually set vtp client. That's pretty similar to setting any switch to client mode. The problem I am observing is that after setting the 2924 to client, it still doesn't inherit vtp version settings or pruning settings. I still have to manually configure those. Additionally, if I copy run start the 2924 after making these manual settings, and then reload the switch, all the settings are lost and it defaults back to server mode with all features disabled. From my searches, it looks like vlan information is stored in vlan.dat, but all the documentation I've found is on 12.1 ios which doesn't appear to use vlan database for vtp setup, meaning it might still be an issue, but not one I'm focused on at the moment.
Is the vlan database dumped at reload? I've read vlan.dat is stored in nvram and should be saved after a copy run start, but that is not the case for me.I have since set the 2924 as the server, manually configured the server from vlan database, executed copy run start, and reloaded the switch. Oddly, my manual settings saved from the reload, meaning I only lose settings when the switch is in client mode.Am I missing additional necessary client commands to save the config, or is this just a limitation of either the 2924XL or the 12.0 ios?On a related but completed out of scope topic, without a cisco service contract, how am I supposed to make heads or tails of all the different versions of ios, along with the letter-based features and what-not? I can't even find my 2924 in the list of platforms when searching for ios upgrades.
