I was trying to erase some bad test configs on my 5505 with a write erase, but all VLAN and Ethernet configs remained. I hastily decided to do an erase flash. No I'm stuck at a ROMMON prompt with no image found to boot I'm hoping I don't have to TFTP a factory image. How do I find the images on disk0 and copy them?

I have an asa5505 with software version 7.2(3) that randomly stops responding. The firewall sits in front of a public facing webserver that handles a significant amount of traffic.I was wondering that would happen when the asa5505 reaches or exceeds the 4000 connections per second limit... i.e. would this possibly explain why my asa5505 stops responding and requires a power cycle in order to start working again. when it "crashes" it does not respond on either the outside or inside interfaces.

I've got some ASA5505 which run as EzVPN clients in NEM, connecting to a ASA5510 as head-end. The ASAs are configured with a CSM and AUS. But whenever they are getting a new configuration through the AUS they stop trying to establish an EzVPN connection to the head-end. After a "reload" they run with the new configuration and establish the tunnel as expected.

A client has an ASA 5505 with a base license. The version information and configuration is attached. In 8 hours, sometimes less and infrequently more, it becomes inaccessible. All connections are dropped and the only way to access the device is through a console connection. The WAN interface (VLAN 3) is connected to Verizon FIOS. The interface was set to 100 MBps and full duplex, but I just changed it to auto on both the speed and duplex to see what would happen. The LAN interface (VLAN 1) is also set to 100 MBps and full duplex It has not been changed.
The last time it happened logging was running, but nothing in the log indicated a problem. In fact, the last log entry was a couple of hours before the lockup (there's little or no traffic on the ASA while the problem is being diagnosed).

I have a ASA 5505 that I test with which originally came with the Security Plus license. I recently erased flash and loaded the latest asa841-k8.bin version of IOS along with asdm-642.bin. Everything booted fine and came up as it does when freshly wiped however I noticed that i was now only running a base license. If I issue the sh activiation-key command, I noticed the following messages (full output is at the bottom):
The Running Activation Key is not valid, using default setting
......
This platform has a Base license.

Failed to retrieve flash permanent activation key
Did I somehow kill my Security Plus licensing when I did the erase flash? If so how do I recover it?

I am trying to determine why Comcast Business Class modem configured with a static IP (IPV4) works with a laptop or Linksys Cable modem but not with a Cisco ASA 5505. After a few minutes, the 5505 stop passing web traffic. I am able to ping the default gateway even though I can not surf the web. Restarting the 5505 and the Comcast modem, web traffic flows for a short period of time, then stops. I can connect inside the firewall via ASDM 7.1.1 and via SSH. I can not connect via either from the outside. Comcast tech support indicated their router is working and is configured in bridge mode. I swapped out the 5505's memory, and then with another 5505. Nothing seems to resolve the issue. I am trying to determine if the 5505 or the Comcast router is not configured correctly.
Here are the parameters: The 5505 was reset to default factory settings via the command: config factory-default. Configured the outside interface with static IP Address followed by the no shutdown command, then removed DHCP features from outside interface. Added Comcast DNS servers, default route, ntp servers, configured DHCP features on the inside interface. Enabled HTTP/SSH (inside & outside interfaces) and ICMP echo-reply (outside only).
I believe the Comcast modem is not configured correctly. The show version and show startup output are below.
ciscoasa# show version
Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software Version 9.1(1)
Device Manager Version 7.1(2)

I am having problems with a customer's ASA 5505 with Anyconnect 3.1 - it is generating captive portal false-alerts which are stopping users from connecting. This issue began when I upgraded from Anyconnect 2.4 to 3.1, and it appears like this: A user downloads and installs the Anyconnect client and is able to connect fine, to begin with. However, once they reboot their computer and try to reconnect, the VPN session will not come up and they receive the error message below."The service provider in your current location is restricting access to the internet. You need to log on with the service provider before you can establish a VPN session. You can try this by visiting any website with your browser."
Reading other posts, it seems this message appears when a captive portal is restricting internet access. It must be a false alert in this case as there is nothing of the sort here. Apparently, Anyconnect 3.1 can generate a false alert like so if the name of the firewall's SSL certificate doesn't match the CName listed on the Client Profile. I've set this up to match, to no avail. Although users can connect by reauthenticating through the SSL VPN login web page, I am stumped as to how to get rid of this captive portal error that pops up when they try to use the Anyconnect client.

I am experiencing a problem on a Catalyst 4510 (cat4500-ipbasek9-mz.122-53.SG.bin) with 802.1x configured. Client PCs are connected via a mini desktop switch to a Cat 4510 switched port in multi-auth mode. The configuration of the port follows:
!interface GigabitEthernet2/34 switchport mode access ip arp inspection limit rate 30 authentication host-mode multi-auth authentication port-control auto authentication periodic authentication timer reauthenticate server dot1x pae authenticator dot1x timeout tx-period 5 dot1x max-reauth-req 6 spanning-tree portfast ip verify source vlan dhcp-snoopingend
It happens from time to time that the Cat 4510 port stops passing traffic. Reconnecting the mini switch recovers the communication. Client PCs connected to the mini switch seem to be authorized at the moment when the problem occures. The RADIUS Termination-Action attribute is set to RADIUS-Request. The problem is not present if "authentication periodic" is disabled.

I have ASA 5505 that has two inside security level 100 interfaces and an outside interface. On the inside interface we have corporate domain subnet with DC and 30 hosts. On the inside2 interface I have few servers that runs specific application important for our business needs, and dumb terminals that are connected to them.I have a laptop user that periodically needs access from our corporate vlan1 to one of the servers on inside 2 vlan via remote desktop or some other remote viewer client,so he can view reports etc.I have enabled same-security-traffic intra-interface command and added nat exempt command pointing specific laptop host machine to that specific server.
Now my main concern is regarding security. This user carries his laptop home, browses the web, puts USB memory, and you can imagine how this machine is susceptible to all kind of malicious software. Inside2 vlan is very important and until now it has been a very secure environment. This is no longer the case since all traffic between this inside sec level 100 vlan host and corresponding inside2 sec level 100 server is now allowed because of the enabled same level interface traffic and nat exemption rule. Do I have another solution that would allow communication based on just a tcp port number for this host? Something like port forwarding from outside to inside Vlan interface?

I have via the ASDM created a backup of the working units configuration, and now i want to load this configuration onto the second unit.I have connected the consiole cable up to the second unit and tried pasting in the contents of the configuration file but no joy.I want to ensure that my configuration will work on this unit before i configure the two units in Active/Passiove configuration.

I'm trying to replace a ASA 5505 with a Cisco 2801 w/ security bundle.I have gone through a pretty basic set up of configuring what I could and letting the Cisco Config Prof do the security audit to lock it down. I have everything working just fine except for the bandwidth.
As soon as I plug the router in it seems to give all the bandwidth to one computer and the rest of the campus slows down to a crawl.I turned on "fair-queue" and even tried the QoS wizard in CCP, but it seems like thats if you want to prioritize voice over data - which we aren't running VOIP so I don't need.

I'm having some issues configuring NAT statements on my ASA5505 which has recently been upgraded to 8.41.
I have a single dynamic IP on the outside interface of the ASA and would like all internal hosts to NAT/PAT to it. In addition, I would like to have several ports 'forwarded' to internal hosts, one of which is TCP/4343. With the current configuration all hosts are NATing to the external interface properly but the service running on TCP/4343 is not accessible from the outside. See command output below:
"sh run object" output:
object network DrJones host 10.81.220.90object network LAN-10.81.220.0 subnet 10.81.220.0 255.255.255.0
"sh run nat" output:
object network DrJones nat (inside, outside) static interface service tcp 4343 4343object network LAN-10.81.220.0 nat (inside, outside) dynamic interface
"sh run access-list" output:

I have configured and tested an ASA-5505 that will be deployed at a customer's home. The ISP cable modem will connect to the E0 (outside) interface of the ASA. All other interfaces on the ASA are configured for the inside network 192.168.5.0/24. I have created a VPN site-to-site tunnel between this ASA and the UC540 to allow 192.168.5.0/24 subnet access to the internal networks on the UC540.
The user has requested that all the network devices used by the rest of the family will only need to connect to the Internet. They will not need access to the VPN tunnel and they will not need access to the computers on the 192.168.5.0/24 inside network. I was planning on performing the following tasks to get this to work.

Looking to upgrade to something that supports dual WAN and allows connections from outside in on both WAN ports. There are 25-30 inside hosts.Requirements: Allow incoming connections on BOTH WAN ports to a single inside host
-This is a web app that needs as close to 100% uptime as possible
-Round robin DNS is set up
-Failover for internal people should one of the ISPs go down
Looking at either an ASA 5505 with Security Plus or an 891 Integrated Service Router.

why I would be getting traffic on my outside interface that has a destination address which is not my assigned outside address? I recently set up my ASA 5505 on the network and gave it an available outside address of say 192.x.x.250 on interface vlan 100. When I assign vlan 100 to e0/0 and bring the port up, I start seeing lots of traffic pour into the ASDM Syslog with various destinations belonging to my subnet but that are not actually destined for my specific outside address of 192.x.x.250.They are showing a destination of say 192.x.x.85 or 192.x.x.29.

There is ASA 5505:
- 8.4(2) IOS
- FLASH: 128 Mb
- DRAM: 256 Mb
Requirements for 8.4(2) are acomplished: For the ASA 5505, only the Unlimited Hosts license and the Security Plus license with failover enabled require 512 MB; other licenses can use 256 MB.Are installed latest AnyConnect packeges for linux, some smatphones (each 4-5 MB). But for Windoes it's 21 MB and we got error "Failed to unzip the Anyconenct Package". In prior IOS version there was command cache-fs limit, by default it was 20 Mb. As i understand ASA now dinamically determines amount of cache memory and it's not enough. Because of the increased size of the AnyConnect package from 4MB in AnyConnect 2.5 to 21 MB in AnyConnect 3.0, you may need to upgrade the ASA flash and memory card first. If your ASA has only the default internal flash memory size or the default DRAM size (for cache memory) you could have problems storing and loading multiple AnyConnect client packages on the ASA. Even if you have enough space on the flash to hold the package files, the ASA could run out of cache memory when it unzips and loads the client images. So there is a question, after DRAM upgrade to 512 MB will be there enough cache memory for Anyconnect packeges with total size 35-40 Mb?
