Jun 24, 2012I need to configure a Cisco 2960 switch as a DHCP server. The current IP address will be on a different seed than the DHCP addresses. i.e.
Switch IP = 10.1.2.3, GW = 10.1.2.1, Subnet = 255.255.255.0
DHCP addresses would be 192.168.1.1 - 200, GW=???? (10.1.2.3?) and subnet would be 255.255.255.0

Jun 10, 2012I just installed a new 2960 to replace a 3550 this last weekend. All of the fiber media converters will not connect to the new switch. The converters are made by Black Box and Desa. If I plug them into the 3550 they link up immediately. If I plug them into the 2960 there is no link whatsoever. I've tried letting it auto-negotiate and tried turning off inline power on the 2960 with no luck.

May 6, 2012Recently I have faced following problem in my office, We have purchased two new Dell Server Power Edge R910 with built-in 10GB FC Network card. Service tag of this two servers are given bellow.
1. 7D94C2S
2. 6D94C2S
You can can Check specification of this two server from dell website{ URL}
We have two CISCO switch and model is given bellow:
Brand: CISCO
Model: WS-C3560E-12SD
We want to connect server to switch through FC cable and both switch have SPF module. But when we connect server to switch, link do not establish even switch and server port light become off.
Then we have tested the following things:
1. Connect server to server through FC cable, it is okay.
2. Connect switch to switch through same FC cable, it is okay.
I don't understand why it is not working.

May 21, 2013I have a Cisco SG 300-20 as the core switch, layer 3. It is 192.168.4.6 on VLAN1 and 192.168.5.1 for VLAN2 (VOIP). All the ports are set in trunk mode. DHCP relay is setup on this switch.
The phones connected into a layer 2, Catalyst 2960-S switch. All ports are set in trunk mode. Default gateway on it is set to 192.168.5.1.
DHCP for both VLANs is provided by a Windows Server 2008 R2 server (the relay IP 192.168.4.15).
There is also an ASA 5510 in the mix which is 192.168.4.1. It has a route added to it for the 192.168.5.0 network to go to the SG 300 (192.168.5.1).
Just the two switches can ping each other on the 192.168.5.x network when I "add vlan 2" to the trunk port that is connected between the SG 300 and the 2960. The phones don't get DHCP on the 2960 switch. And I cannot ping 192.168.5.x from the ASA or anything else on the 192.168.4.x network.
After a bit of reading on intra-vlan routing for the SG 300 switch, I am thinking the SG 300 has to be the "center" of things so I need to make it 192.168.4.1 to be the gateway for both VLANs and change the ASA to 192.168.4.2 for VLAN1, etc. And I really can't do asymmetric routing with this switch.

Feb 5, 2013I have a statck of 4 2960s switches, with POE powered access points on 2 of them. All of the access points appear to be functioning normally. For some reason, on 3 interfaces connected to access points, I get the following when issuing show interfaces status:
Gi3/0/9 connected: T 7 a-full a-1000 10/100/1000BaseTX

My question is regarding the "T" in the status field. I can't find any documentation on this.

It doesnt like my password, but I have only set 1 password (king) on this switch. I've configured 3 other switches with SSH and had no problem. Been trouble shooting for awhile and It'd be great if I could have a 2nd set of eyes take a peek, Also, my running config is attached.

Jan 24, 2012I am setting up a new 2960-S switch and none of the recommended username and passwords combinations work. I have tried CIsco Cisco, <blank> cisco and various other permutations.
I have tried to reset the switch to factory defaults and it still doesn't work. The switch is currently connected to a 3560G and has been assigned an IP. If I try to access it from Network assistant it shows as unmanaged and I get prompted for a username and password.The switch is connected to another new 2960-S via a FlowStack module.

Now I am not able to communicate PC 1 connected in 1st floor to PC2 connected in 4th Floor.

Nov 13, 2011I have a client whom has asked me to enable web management on some of his 2960 switches. I did not think this was going to be an issue, and so I told the customer I would set this up for him.
Much to my dismay, I have been able to get http and https enabled, and then authenticating locally for the HTTP access. I then come to the screen once authenticated which is shown below:
The issue is that when I select "Web Console", it gives me a "Web Page Cannot be found".

Sep 4, 2012I have a Cisco 2960-S Switch, It is connected to a jack in the building to check the settings, Interface VLAN 1 has an ip, there is a default gateway, Any host connected to switch can access the network resources. But the problem is that I have to use Serial Cable to configure it. I cant ping or telnet into it from any other device. PC's are on different subnets/VLANS.
Basically this switch is connected to a port in a different switch, Do i have to make a trunk?

Jan 8, 2013I am trying to upgrade my cisco WS 2960 24 TC-L switch with the IOS image c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-55.SE6.bin and my existing IOS image is c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-50.SE5.bin. when i am copying it to flash, it is getting copied but when i tried to boot it after entering command boot system c2960-lanbasek9-mz.122-55.SE6.bin , it gave me an error.
