I have two 2960s that periodically lose connection for just a few Seconds. If I run a continuous ping from a workstation the connection never drops but as soon as I kill the ping command I will start losing the connection again. All cables test fine tried different switch ports nothing seems to work. No errors in log file either.
View 6 RepliesJust installed a DIR-615, not impressed so far I have 3 clients, a Windoze 7 laptop, a Kubuntu workstation (wireless N) and a wireless HP printer. When I enable DHCP reservations and reserve the addresses then save settings the router reboots and when I go back in all info is gone and nothing is reserved. I have been having weird disconnection issues - I lose my internet periodically for no apparent reason so I increased the lease time and am trying to reserve addresses.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have a 3750G 12S that is connected to its clients with 1000 Mb SFPs. On the switch is a simple Vlan all the ports are assigned to. The ports are auto-sensing gig connection speed and full duplex when I run the show interface command.What happens is that if a client workstation is restarted or shut down and powered back up, the client cannot reconnect to the switch unless we cycle the switch itself (power off and back on)I know only the very basics of switch configuring and finding it difficult to source any trouble shooting info on issues like this.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have two 5000. Uplinks are Vpc to nexus 7000 and downlink are connected to Esx host. When I reboot one 5000, some Esx host lose connection to the NetApp SAN (Iscsi and CIFS) for 10-16 seconds. This is enought to generate errors and event corruption on disk. The 10-16 blackout occur when the switch as reloaded.
My theory is that VPC interface comme up 10-16 seconds after the edge interface(ESX). This create a blackhole effect for ESX host.
We've got a cisco 2821 router which periodically stops routing all traffic. It seems to happen about once every 2 weeks, and I can't find anything that could be causing it. There are no entries in the log and the router stays up and running but requires a restart to begin processing traffic again. We're running 12.4(13r)T11.Any thoughts, or troubleshooting steps to track this down?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI currently have a network with (8) 2960 Cisco Switches. (6) of the 2960 switches are etherchanneled back to (2) 2960 switches in the computer room. I would like to setup QOS on the (8) switches, however the traffic is very differnt on each of the switches. I have video, ip phone, server, printer, PC traffic. I am not sure what the best method of separating this traffic into differnt QOS queues.
View 3 Replies View RelatedCompany I work for just moved into a new location. We have two data closets which are patched as independent entities, with no Ethernet tie connection. These closets are roughly 100 feet apart.
There is a fiber connection that runs between both closets, that the previous tenant used to connect the switches. I have placed a Cisco 2960 switch in each location, and added one mini SFP gbic's to each switch. After attaching both sides, neither light up. I do a sh inter gig1/0/49 on each and shows 'down down' (not admin down).
What is the trick on getting these to communciate, do I need to configure these ports, and are they supposed to light up?
What I am trying to accomplish is to get the one closet that is completely cut off, communicating by logically stacking, or 'daisy chaining' via fiber.
I turned off the lights and popped the fiber out, and I do see a faint red light (I did not look straight into it), so I think the fiber is active.
I followed the 3-switch Redundant stacking diagram and now when I boot up the stack Switch 2 is acutally Member 3 and Switch 3 is Member 2.
We plan on having Port-Channels spanning across Switch 1 - Master and Switch 2 (Member 3) of identical port types. Switch 3 (Member 2) is going to have 2 10GIG port channel created.
Is there going to be a problem renumbering the stack as they physically sit or should I just configure the devices based on thier logical member numbers.
I don't understand why the stack connection is Switch 1 - 1 ----> Switch 2 -1
Switch 2 - 2 ----> Switch 3- 1
Switch 3 - 2 ----> Switch 1 - 2
After not seeming to be able to save any configurations in 12.2(25)FX, I thought an upgrade would work since it said it didn't recognize my browser or OS but let me continue. I was able to see everything just couldn't save changes.
I updated to 15.0(1)SE3 and everything seemed to be going well. Tried to log back in HTTP (have not set n IP yet since it is still at my house... DHCP seems to be working) and I get a user/password screen that says level_15_access and it won't let me in.
Attempts to log in terminal have been unsuccessful. I can log in my dell switch which I am replacing and my APC units terminal just fine using USB to serial and Ubuntu.
I tried cisco as a password, user and password, admin, administrator no luck.
What is the best way to resolve this, is there a sure fire windows serial program or settings I should use in linux (currently 9600,8,N,1) to connect? I have looked through manuals till I am blue in the face.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running those modules in my Cisco 6500 chassis and having lot of connectivity issues. I lose network connectivity every 5-6 day at around the same time. I have (2) C7000 Chassis with HP VC-Flex 10 Modules connected via 20Gb LAB to each Cisco Cisco 6513 Switches. However, the OA Modules on C7000 are connected via 1Gb uplink to either 6548 and 6148 modules. I beleive this is causing the netwok connectivity issues.What modules would be recommended to replace 6548 and 6148 who only meant to be used for 1Gb desktop connectivity, and not for Server Farm.
When you use either the WS-X6548-GE-TX or WS-X6148-GE-TX modules, there is a possibility that individual port utilization can lead to connectivity problems or packet loss on the surrounding interfaces. Especially when you use EtherChannel and Remote Switched Port Analyzer (RSPAN) in these line cards, you can potentially see the slow response due to packet loss. These line cards are oversubscription cards that are designed to extend gigabit to the desktop and might not be ideal for server farm connectivity. On these modules there is a single 1-Gigabit Ethernet uplink from the port ASIC that supports eight ports. These cards share a 1 Mb buffer between a group of ports (1-8, 9-16, 17-24, 25-32, 33-40, and 41-48) since each block of eight ports is 8:1 oversubscribed. The aggregate throughput of each block of eight ports cannot exceed 1 Gbps. Table 4 in the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series 10/100- & 10/100/1000-Mbps Ethernet Interface Modules shows the different types of Ethernet interface modules and the supported buffer size per port.Over subscription happens due to multiple ports combined into a single Pinnacle ASIC. The Pinnacle ASIC is a direct memory access (DMA) engine that transfers packets between back plane switching bus and the network ports. If any port in this range receives or transmits traffic at a rate that exceeds its bandwidth or utilizes a large amount of buffers to handle bursts of traffic, the other ports in the same range can potentially experience packet loss. The buffer assignment on these modules is documented in Buffers, Queues & Thresholds on Catalyst 6500 Ethernet Modules.A SPAN destination is a very common cause since it is not uncommon to copy traffic from an entire VLAN or multiple ports to a single interface. On a card with individual interface buffers, the packets that exceed the bandwidth of the destination port are silently dropped and no other ports are affected. With a shared buffer, this causes connectivity problems for the other ports on this range. In most scenarios, shared buffers do not result in any problems. Even with eight gigabit attached workstations, it is rare that the provided bandwidth is exceeded.
The switch can experience degradation in services when you configure local SPAN in a switch, especially if it monitors a large amount of source ports.
This problem remains if it monitors certain VLANs and if a large number or ports is assigned to any of these VLANs.Even though SPAN is done in hardware, there is a performance impact since now the switch carries twice as much traffic. Since each linecard replicates the traffic at ingress, whenever a port is monitored, all ingress traffic is doubled when it hits the fabric. The capture of traffic from a large number of busy ports on a linecard can fill up the fabric connection, especially with the WS-6548-GE-TX cards, which only have an 8 Gigabit fabric connection.The WS-X6548-GE-TX, WS-X6548V-GE-TX, WS-X6148-GE-TX, and WS-X6148V-GE-TX modules have a limitation with EtherChannel. For EtherChannel, the data from all links in a bundle goes to the port ASIC, even though the data is destined for another link. This data consumes bandwidth in the 1-Gigabit Ethernet link. For these modules, the sum total of all data on an EtherChannel cannot exceed 1 Gigabit.

This is currently in a switchport mode access port- channel so only the default vlan data is sent over. Now we have a need due to physical location of these switches, to allow vlan20 (DMZ) from this 3750g to the switch stack. I will configure a few ports on the switch stack for vlan20 and they need to be able to talk to the stand alone 3750g.To do this I will change the port channel on both endpoints to

also making the appropriate change on the interfaces belonging to this trunk.My question is, now that its a trunk port that carries multiple VLANs, how much is the bandwidth reduced on that 2gbps link?I have a very active VLAN (10) on the stand alone switch, but on the core I'm not going to be assigning VLAN 10 to any ports. So does traffic from VLAN10 even come across the trunk (wasting bandwidth) if no ports on the core side are assigned to it? I really just need vlan 1 and 20 (for now).
Every time I boot up my computer, everything will be working fine for about 5 -10 minutes, but after this, all my browsers will lose connection to the Internet. All of them: IE, firefox, chrome, even the steam browser, all of them just lose connection.The weird thing is, my net connection is perfectly fine: I can still play online games, still use online chat services, still open and use programs like utorrent. I was involved with unpacking and seting up the equipment to get client up and running. I have never setup a firewall before, and after contacting Draytek, they guided to get BT infinity, 5510 to talk so that the server was able to get onto the internet. The setup was then left in its default state.All was fine until lately, the client keeps losing internet approx same time most days.My problem is how do i get the 5510 properly configured to talk to BT infinity, and sbs 2011. For the MDF I would like to use 2 Nexus 5548's with FEX's, and the layer 3 daughter board. For the IDF's I was thinking of two 4010's.
I am using a 3750 as a default gateway for multiple Vlans on a few 2960 switches. The trunk lines are configured and working and I have assigned ip addresses to each of the Vlan interfaces on the 3750. My issue is that I can only ping the ip address on the Vlan interface of the 3750 if I have a working computer plugged directly into the Vlan on the 3750. I only have 3 vlans on the 3750 that have hosts directly connected (vlans 2, 10 and 40) the other vlans ( 20 and 70) don't have any clients plugged into them on the 3750 but the hosts reside on 2 different 2960s that connect via trunk ports. How do I keep the vlan interface on the 3750 switch pingable when I don't have hosts directly connected in that vlan on the 3750? (yes, I have enabled ip routing on the 3750)

I have, in the past, tried a few fixes offered on websites for suggestions when you lose wireless connection (i.e. Setting a static IP to connect to, turning on firewalls, etc.) none have worked.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a very well updated Laptop running XP well patched with IE7.I have run all the malware scans and there is nothing wrong on the PC.After exactly 10 minutes of the PC being on, wireless internet connection is lost, BUT:Signal Strength states "Excellent" I can't access any website at all on the web. (Except for "Facebook" for some odd reason?) I can't access it after the 10 minute mark but if I'm already on it, I can navigate thru it's site without being disconnected, don't ask me why I have tried the following:
- Dynamic and Static IP setting
- Turned on and off windows firewall and rebooted each time
- Ran all kinds of malware detection and virus scans
- Disabled power management on network card
- I've tried different PCs on the same network and they're fine
- Tried ipconfig release and renew
- Tried repair connection
- Tried netsh reset
- Tried FireFox and other browers
- Logging off and back in doesn't work, must restart the computer to get another 10 minutes
If I do a factory reset on a router, does that mean the computers on the LAN will not be able to access the Internet?but then the router will configure it's self automatically to re-allow connection ?

Its very apparant when I play BF3 cause it will close the game and say connection with server timed out.My question is how should I troubleshoot this. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Cisco SG 300-20 as the core switch, layer 3. It is 192.168.4.6 on VLAN1 and 192.168.5.1 for VLAN2 (VOIP). All the ports are set in trunk mode. DHCP relay is setup on this switch.
The phones connected into a layer 2, Catalyst 2960-S switch. All ports are set in trunk mode. Default gateway on it is set to 192.168.5.1.
DHCP for both VLANs is provided by a Windows Server 2008 R2 server (the relay IP 192.168.4.15).
There is also an ASA 5510 in the mix which is 192.168.4.1. It has a route added to it for the 192.168.5.0 network to go to the SG 300 (192.168.5.1).
Just the two switches can ping each other on the 192.168.5.x network when I "add vlan 2" to the trunk port that is connected between the SG 300 and the 2960. The phones don't get DHCP on the 2960 switch. And I cannot ping 192.168.5.x from the ASA or anything else on the 192.168.4.x network.
After a bit of reading on intra-vlan routing for the SG 300 switch, I am thinking the SG 300 has to be the "center" of things so I need to make it 192.168.4.1 to be the gateway for both VLANs and change the ASA to 192.168.4.2 for VLAN1, etc. And I really can't do asymmetric routing with this switch.
Does the Model "WS-C2960-24PC-L" Supports IP Routing or not?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWe are a small business with about 9 Macbook pros and 3 PC's connected wirelessly to the router. The Mac-computers sometimes lose their wifi-connection to the router. When this happens they have to select the wifi network again from the menu, to reestablish their internet connection. For some of the clients, this happens about once each day and for others multiple times a day. The problem doesn't seem to appear on the PC's.
I have tried to solve the problem by making DHCP reservations for each computers MAC-address, but with no luck. I also tried to set the 802.11 Mode to 'Mixed 802.11n and 802.11g', and turning WISH off. I read that the connection can be disturbed, if other wifi-networks in the area uses the same channel, so I changed it to channel 3, based on a scan of the network, where 3 appeared to be the least used. The WPA Mode is set to 'WPA-2 Only' and Cipher type is 'TKIP and AES'
The Dir-655 is hardware version B1 and the firmware is 2.0.
We are having several workstations that are momentarily losing connection to our Windows Server 2008 machine that hosts their Documents etc.It seems like a momentary disconnection and not everyone has complained although I'm guessing that unless you are trying to locate a file etc at that moment you might not notice.Here is the error message I see in the event logs on the server:

While transmitting or receiving data, the server encountered a network error. Occassional errors are expected, but large amounts of these indicate a possible error in your network configuration. The error status code is contained within the returned data (formatted as Words) and may point you towards the problem.So, where would you guys start with something like this? Either my HP Procurve 1800-24G doesn't have much in the way of error logs, or I don't know where to look.Would you start with changing port on the switch, changing network cable or do you think it's more likely to be something on the server itself?
I got a new router, a Cisco Linksys EA3500, and everything works fine and no one else in my family notices anything. Everything works and I don't have trouble accessing the internet and I always get 5 bars, but whenever I play a game online it will disconnect me after a while. Sometimes it disconnects me after 5 minutes and sometimes after 30 minutes. The only games I play are Arma 2 and Garry's mod and I have the same problem with both games. The weird thing is that I talk to friends on steam when we are playing and it doesn't get disconnected I can hear them fine, and my internet access bar at the lower right doesn't say I'm disconnected. Streaming and downloading work as well. I have no idea what to do, we got a new router because the old one was faulty and we called our isp and they said there was nothing wrong on their end it.

The problem is: when I activate the second SSID, the AP losing connection with the WLC. In the log appears"AP disassociated. ... Base Radio" and "
"not advertising ssid due to radio policy". The AP's connect with the WLC, lose after few seconds the contact.
I'm having a strange problem where I'm not able to get through a Cisco 2960-S L2 switch when connected through vpn, while LAN-WAN traffic is working fine.The situation on site is the following:When inside the network I'm able to get to the internet without a problem. The problem is within a vpn-session. When this session is succesfully started I can ping and manage the Cisco 2960-S switch, but I can't ping or manage the Dell switch from my laptop. I can however ping the Dell from the Cisco-switch. [code]
