Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2960S - Will Resilient Ethernet Protocol (REP) Run
Jun 10, 2013
Will Resilient Ethernet Protocol (REP) run on all Cisco switches (2960S and 3010) or is it only available on Service Provider switches like the ME3400E?

we are setting up our first ATT metro ethernet connection. I have a Cisco 2960S at the remote site and I placed a Cisco 2960 on the Host site to test and had no issues. When I moved the Host site to our Nexus 7000, I can not get a link.. both sides are set as trunks,

We have 2 sites, each with 2 x 4506 switches which will be connected togther using an etherchannel. The switches will provide access ports for client devices and will be configured with HSRP to provide gateway redundancy. SW1 will be HSRP active.2 metro ethernet links will be installed in each site which will connect back to our HQ sites. OSPF will be used over the backbone to provide resiliency and to allow shortest path routing to each HQ and to prevent traffic over the HQ to HQ link.
The 4506 will be trunked togther with an SVI for providing OSFP adjacency. For the traffic flow from SW2 to HQ2, traffic will hit SW1 and then route back to SW2 and then to HQ2. Is this the best way to do this? Should a second link be connected between switches just for routing or should something like GLBP be used?

I have a cisco 1841 router in place. I also have a ADSL module which fits into the cisco router. My understanding is that if configured correctly, If the primary circuit were to fail (Ethernet Circuit MPLS), the ADSL would take over services until such time the ethernet link becomes available.
Therefore the ADSL circuit is used as a resilient link. If this is possible, can the Cisco 1841 be setup to automatically switch over to the ADSL? Would there be some sort of heart beat between the ethernet circuit and adsl circuit? Also from the other end of the Cisco router, the connection goes into a firewall. If the Cisco handles the failover, I assume I would not need to configure anything on the firewall.
The end users beyond the firewall, should be able to continue, however the performace would be degraded?

I have a collapsed core design with routed ports between all components. Access layer switches, data center switches, core/aggregation. All routed (no spanning-tree at all).Now...I have to add an IBM BladeCenter with a BNT layer 3 switch to my topology. However, those nasties don't seem to support routed ports. How can I have a routed port on my cisco switch and a standard access port on the BNT and still establish an adjacency with an SVI? I am running OSPF, but I am labbing this in my home lab with 2 x 3550s and EIGRP.
On SW2:

I have an environment where i have two nexus 7010 switches, along with 2 nexus 5510's. I need to run OSPF as a layer 3 routing protocol between the vpc peer links. I have 1 link being used as a keep alive link, and 3 other links being used as a VpC link.
1) Is it best to configure a separate Vpc VLAN i.e 1010
2) Is it best to configure a vrf context keep-alive
3) just have the management address as the peer ip's.

I have recently split the voice vlan (10) from the data network (1), and am wondering why my catalysts and router do not require an interface Vlan10 statement. In the past I used OpenBSD boxes to do the routing, and I first needed to configure vlan 10 on the interface before I could get inter-vlan communication to work. With these Cisco devices it works, and I am wondering if it is because of VTP, for the fact that the ports maybe just pass all traffic, or is there some other explanation? Below is the setup, and firmware is up-to-date on all of the devices.
When I plug a phone into the POE SGE, the phone turns on, obtains an address on the proper subnet, and conversations are clear (whereas without the ip nat inside on the new subnet the calls had a lot of static). Possibly the reason that it works is because the phones properly create the tcp/ip packet, and it hops over the trunks and creates the states so that traffic routes back properly. I will install wireshark to see exactly what is going on, but is there a simple explanation that I am overlooking?

I have bought Cisco ISR 881 C880DATA-UNIVERSALK9-M with c880data-universalk9-mz.150-1.M7.bin ios.
command "show ver" tell me:
License Information for 'c880-data'
License Level: advsecurity Type: Permanent
Next reboot license Level: advsecurity
So I have advsecurity. On cisco site there was a thing URL
"Table 5. Cisco IOS Software Features on Cisco 880 Series: Advanced Security Feature Set (Default)"
that tell me I have RIP protocol to use. But when I type "router rip" command and sub router sommands like: network, passive-interface, redistribution. There are no in runnning-config such things after all I've done. It have not been saved.
then the command "show licence":
#show license
Index 1 Feature: advipservices
Period left: Not Activated
Period Used: 0 minute 0 second
License Type: EvalRightToUse
License State: Not in Use, EULA not accepted
License Count: Non-Counted
License Priority: None
I need even RIPv2 to have simple routing information to exchange.
And I don't know. Cisco 880 series is G2 or G1. Cisco ISR beginning from 890 series is G2. About 880 I don't know. There no informanion about it or at least I have not found it yet. On one 891 is the same problem. When I type "router eigrp 1" everything is great. But when "router rip" - do no work.

I am trying to review the port-channel configuration on a 6500 series. I am issuing the "show etherchannel summary" command and the out put shows the Group, Port-Channel, and Ports. It does not show me the protocol that is in use such as PAgP or LACP. Does this have to do with the Etherchannel in the "On" mode rather than "active", or "Auto"?

I read some papers about QoS. The thing is that I have to implement 30 switches with QoS to connect to a lot of Cisco IP phones. The switches are Cisco 2960S with code image "C2960S Software (C2960S-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 12.2(55)SE3". Should I use autoQoS feature or manually configure them?. How should I treat uplinks between access switchs and core/distribution? I have a lot of doubts regarding queueing, because all the info I had read its for another model/image.

On our backbone (Cisco 6509) we have the following config.
spanning-tree mode rapid-pvst
spanning-tree extend system-id
spanning-tree vlan 1-200 priority 24576
1. is rapid-pvst the best spanning tree protocol to use? on some switches we have pvst (not rapid)
2. do all switches in the LAN need to use the same protocol?
3. does line 3 :priority 24576 mean that someone set tis switch as root manually? how can one further enforce the backbone as root (so noone adds a old switch with lower root id)

We are using CISCO LMS 4.2.3 in our network in India, we are facing a issue regarding alarm generation for a protocol flap/down, especially when BGP / OSPF neighbourship got flapped. These flapping will result in the data service degradation , by which we came to know that some protocol flap may occurred at router end & then we go for the manual check by login into the router.after escalating the same to cisco we came to know that it is a bug of Cisco LMS. using any other method/technique to view the protocol down alarms automatically for cisco routers.

I work for a Wireless ISP and the device impacted is the back haul radio into the site. I have swapped from a 2950T to a 3550. Replaced the radio, PoE, patch lead. We have re ran the cable up the tower using shielded outdoor cable with a drain wire which has been earthed to an earthing block in the cabinet. We have other devices on the tower not experiencing the issue. We suspect cable interference however am now at a loss to diagnose further.

I would like to enable port security to hardcode the MAC address on the ethernet switch. There are 5 ethernet ports in the same ethernet switch to be assigned for one person (one note book), e.g. port 5, 6, 15, 16 and 23. The model of ethernet switch is cisco 2960S and one MAC address is configured on 2960S.
1. Does 2960S support this requirement to allow input the same MAC address to 5 different port?
2. If yes, can ethernet switch "smart" enough to forward the packages to "active" ethernet port which is connected to notebook and the rest of four ports are inactive.
3. if no, any solution or any work around to achieve this requirement

4 x 2960S switches in a Stack Access-Stack-I 4 x 2960S-PoE switches in a second Stack Access-Stack-II
2 x 3750X switches in a Stack Core-Stack
Now I would like to connect it in the following manner ?First,I would like to use EtherChannel using the 10Gig LinksSecondly, I would like to use Cross-Stack EtherChanel too.I have given a graphical illustration of the connectivity Now my Qs: a) Will the 2960S supports EtherChannel using the 10G links and the 3750X too... b) Does the proposed solution will work... or It will have any problems.

I have two switches (2960S's) both with IP Phones on VLAN100..We need to monitor voice traffic via a monitor port on SW1 of all VLAN100 traffic on both switches. The following is what we have configured, but we cannot see VLAN100 traffic on SW1
According to Cisco doco you cannot have a SPAN and RSPAN on the same session, however since these are two sessions on SW1, I would have thought it to be OK.
