Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 V2 Stacking With 3560X?
Mar 14, 2012
Im going to be ordering a new 3560X L3 switch (ws-3560x-48pf-s). We currently have a 3560 V2 switch and I've read it supports stacking, but looking at the back I just see a console port. Is there an extra card I have to get for this 3560V2 to make it stakable with the 3560X?

I am trying to resolve a situation where we need to send multiple (2 atleast) multicast feeds from a source to our multilayer switch (3560x).
The problem with the source is that it can only send a feed to a single switch at a given time. It can not send 2 (identical) feeds to two 3560x devices (on 2 different subnets/vlans). I was wondering if i could make the two 3560x devices appear as 1 device (using virtual chassis system or a similar feature). I am running ip services IOS feature set (c3560e-universalk9-mz.122-58.SE2.bin).

why Cisco make 3560x switches with Lan Base(no routing functions)? What happen if I load an Image L3, previously downloaded? my device lost the warranty? or it doesn matter?

How to stack a set of these switches with the copper 5G SFP on these switches. We currently have 4 switches stacked with Cat5e jumpers between S1&S2. We want to stop using this stacking method and go to the SFP. What is the best way to do this. Live would be preferable but whatever is the safest method is the way we will proceeed. Any goth'ca's in this process?

There seems to be a lot of conflicting information on what can and can't stack together in the 3750X range.
I know that LAN Base can only stack with other LAN Base switches.
Can IP Base stack with IP services in 3750X? I have also heard that the 15.x.x IOS restricts mixed feature set stacks?
I know that Cisco recommends that all switches in a stack have the same IOS and feature set but having all IP Services in a stack can get too expensive.

We currently have a stack of 3750G switches that are running 12.2(46)SE C3750-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M
Our 3750X is currently running 15.0(2)SE C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M and I believe we were told you can't stack with a Universal IOS image. We have the universal on there because we have some 10GB fiber connections on it that Cisco told us wouldn't work otherwise.
I realize that the switch versions need to match, but the question is, which version should we work off to have use of the 10GB SFP card?

I am having troubles to get 2 C3750-X switches WS-C3750-X-48P-L) to stack. They are both running iOS 15.0(2)-UNIVERSALK9, and are licensed for IP Base.
If I connect stack port 1 of switch 1 to stack port 2 of switch 1, and stack port 1 of switch 2to stack port 2 of switch 2 I get the following:
WS-C3750-X_STACK1_SW1>show switch stack-ports summary
Switch#/ Stack Neighbor Cable Link Link Sync # InPort# Port Length OK Active OK Changes Loopback Status
[Code].....
I have tried restarting (powering off for about 1 min and turning back on) simultaneously, and powering off switch 1 for 1 min and switch 2 for 2 min. I have also tried both enabling the stack ports, and disabling followed by enabling.

My management has tasked me to give them a high level overview of the different switching we can choose for our new building.
This is what I know so far.4 Closets, each closet has 450 ports,One MDF room that is will contain one UCS Chassis and a Nimble iSCSI SAN.
I am working on the spreadsheet and it looks like this (Not totally filled):

We have two 3750 stackable switches in core layer.
1. We are planning to stack two 3750 for greater bandwidth to use
2. We could configure 10GE link (by Network module) between these two switches
which solution provides increased bandwidth and redundancy?

I followed the 3-switch Redundant stacking diagram and now when I boot up the stack Switch 2 is acutally Member 3 and Switch 3 is Member 2.
We plan on having Port-Channels spanning across Switch 1 - Master and Switch 2 (Member 3) of identical port types. Switch 3 (Member 2) is going to have 2 10GIG port channel created.
Is there going to be a problem renumbering the stack as they physically sit or should I just configure the devices based on thier logical member numbers.
I don't understand why the stack connection is Switch 1 - 1 ----> Switch 2 -1
Switch 2 - 2 ----> Switch 3- 1
Switch 3 - 2 ----> Switch 1 - 2

I would like to ask about 3750 stacking and some Cat6 stuff...
1) How do we monitor 3750 stacking port in LMS?
2) Let say if I stack 3 switches, middle switch should be Master. Uplink should be at Top and Bottom. Is best practice?
3) Can we mixed 3750G and 3750X and what is result internal BW - fallback to 32Gps?
4) is there any Qos difference between WS-X6816-10G-2T and WS-X6816-10G-2TXL?
5) is there any Qos difference between MSFC5 PFC4 and MSFC5 PFC4XL?
6) What is main difference between PFC4 and PFC4XL in Sup2T?
7) Pls share more about Central and Distributed Switching in Sup2T and which card support Distributed DFCXL?

I'm having trouble stacking a new WS-C3750X-24P with existing switches WS-C3750G-24PS ?I can see the license is on the new WS-C3750X-24P:
switch#sho lic
Index 1 Feature: ipservices
Period left: 8 weeks 4 days
License Type: Evaluation
License State: Active, Not in Use, EULA not accepted
License Priority: None
[code].....
I could put on the c3750e-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE1 image, but I may need to get the license sorted still, but not sure if that will work or how to add it if i got one.....

I plan to build improved redundancy in to my LAN by stacking two 3750s and teaming pairs of NICs on my Dell PowerEdge servers, with each cable of the pair going to a different switch.In my mind this provides redundancy for the NICs and the switches. Does this configuration will work, and also what type of teaming is supported, as I was planning to have one NIC active and one standby, but can I run this configuration with both NICs in the team as active with load balancing?

Suppose I have a 3 member stack of 3750x switches. Members a, b and c.I have all 3 members stacked with all 3 *data* stacking cables in a daisy-chain topology. The 50 cm data stacking cable from switch a (on the very top) to switch c (on the very bottom) just barely reached.Of course, that means the 30 cm *power* stacking cable didn't reach between a & c. Right now, the power stacking cable goes from a to b, and then another cable from b to c. Leaving me with a useless extra 30 cm power stacking cable.
My question is, can switch "a" receive power from switch "c" through switch "b"? Is this just a big electrical "bus"? What if the power supply in switch "b" is removed?Just wondering if there is a need for me to get a longer power stacking cable (one of the 150 cm power stacking cables).

We purchased a number of 3750X 48 and 24 port switches for the College Campus. Am finally getting around to getting them inserted on the network. Working with a WS-3750X-48PF-S and a WS-3750X-24P-L. Have them stacked with the 10Gb uplink on the 48 port switch. Have not been having fun.In the boot sequence, the switches recognize they are stacked, but as soon as they finish boot, I get the message on the 48 port switch: “Stack Port 1 Switch 1 has changed to state down.” Then “Stack Port 2 Switch1 has changed to state down.” Am noticing that I have a message preceding that: “Major version mismatch with stack neighbor.”The 48 port is running c3750e-universalk9-mz.150-1.SE3, HBOOT 12.2(53r)SE2.The 24 port is running c3750e-unversalk9-mz.122-55.SE3, HBOOT 12.2(53r)SE2Most of our 3750X and older switches are running 122-55 or 122.58 code. IP base or Universal. There is speculation that the problem is the 24 Port is Lan base, as the part number might indicate. (WS-C3750X-24-P-L.... I think that is the part number) and the 48 is IP base. Both switches are Universal, and my understanding is that they don't care about LAN or IP Base until you enable a function that falls in the IP Base domain. Then I have to call Cisco Licensing.For these switches, LAN Base is fine, based on the boot message, I feel the real problem is 122-55 versus 150-1 in the stack. So.. the question is: Do I downgrade the 48 port to match what we have in our environment, and what is on the 24 port switch. Or... Upgrade the 24 port switch to match the 48 port switch and have an installation that is not consistent with our environment? I do have two more edge closets to install with this purchase of 3750X 48 port switches.

convergence time in case of stack master will be switched over to other switch.In my understating, when the stack master will be switched over to other switch based on election algorithm, convergence time will be less than 10 second.
I tried to calculate concersion time during fail over testing but convergence time was 21 second. I think it is too long...
Expected reasons
・I configured Rapid Spanning tree protocol between L3 and L3. (But RSTP's convergence time is 2~3 second..)

I found in the Data Sheet that we can only configure 4 devices in power stacking at a time. If it is like that how to configure the rest of 3 devices. Need configuring power stacking between those devices in a better way..

So my question is in Core / Distribution layer should i use Etherchannel between switches or use Stacking if switches are stackble.For ex: suppose I have two cisco 3750 switches . so should i use etherchannel between them or use stacking in core layer?What are the advantages and disadv of both.

We are experiencing output drops on our 3750G-12S (IOS 12.2.55).
I have monitored throughput with MRTG, but it doesn't seem that high compared to that the 3750G is supposed to handle 17.8 Mpps.
The 3750G's are stacked, running ospf, qos, multicast (IPTV) and etherchannel.Is the maximum throughput reduced by stacking or any of the other features?
I don't know if one can estimate what the maximum throughput is per ASIC or per port, but on one of the ASICs that is having drops the peak unicast load is 1.3 Mpps and multicast Mpps is 0.9 Mpps. Total ~2.2 Mpps.
This doesn't seem high at all and I don't understand why the drops are appearing. What I can do to find out the reason for these drops?

I am trying to stack a 3750g with a 3750x. At the moment they will not stack with their current IOS as the hardware version is mismatched.
According to various posts this is possible as long as the same IOS is in use. The following IOS are currently in use:
3750g - c3750-ipbaselmk9-tar.122-55.SE5
3750x - c3750e-ipbasek9-mz.150-1.SE3
I have tried to downgrade the IOS on the 'X' to 122-55.SE5 however, i get errors regarding firmware incompatibility.
I am unable to upgrade the IOS on the 'G' to 150-1.SE3, as the size of the IOS image is larger than the available flash (Version 15 IOS for the 3750G (c3750-ipbasek9-mz.150-1.SE3.bin) is 16,074,189 bytes whereas the 3750G has 16MB of flash memory or 15,998,976 bytes total which mean the IOS will not fit).
Has not actually stacked these devices successfully? I understand there may be license implications of upgrading to 15 but at the moment I just want them to stack!
