Cisco Switching/Routing :: Power Stacking For 3750x - Both Cables Needed?

Jun 7, 2012

Suppose I have a 3 member stack of 3750x switches.  Members a, b and c.I have all 3 members stacked with all 3 *data* stacking cables in a daisy-chain topology.  The 50 cm data stacking cable from switch a (on the very top) to switch c (on the very bottom) just barely reached.Of course, that means the 30 cm *power* stacking cable didn't reach between a & c.  Right now, the power stacking cable goes from a to b, and then another cable from b to c.  Leaving me with a useless extra 30 cm power stacking cable.

My question is, can switch "a" receive power from switch "c" through switch "b"?  Is this just a big electrical "bus"?  What if the power supply in switch "b" is removed?Just wondering if there is a need for me to get a longer power stacking cable (one of the 150 cm power stacking cables).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750X Setting Up Power Stacking Switches

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750X - 48PS Switches Power Stacking

Mar 28, 2012

In my office we bought 7 cisco 3750X - 48PS switches. We configured Data Stacking between those switches. We also want to configure Power Stacking between those 7 devices.

I found in the Data Sheet that we can only configure 4 devices in power stacking at a time. If it is like that how to configure the rest of 3 devices. Need configuring power stacking between those devices in a better way..

power stack cable part no we have is

Can you install the powerstack cables with the switches powered up? I would assume you can, but wanted to verify before doing so.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Stacking With 3750X?

Jan 1, 2013

There seems to be a lot of conflicting information on what can and can't stack together in the 3750X range.

I know that LAN Base can only stack with other LAN Base switches.

Can IP Base stack with IP services in 3750X? I have also heard that the 15.x.x IOS restricts mixed feature set stacks?

I know that Cisco recommends that all switches in a stack have the same IOS and feature set but having all IP Services in a stack can get too expensive.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Stacking A 3750X With 3750Gs

Jan 23, 2013

We currently have a stack of 3750G switches that are running 12.2(46)SE C3750-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M

Our 3750X is currently running 15.0(2)SE C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M and I believe we were told you can't stack with a Universal IOS image. We have the universal on there because we have some 10GB fiber connections on it that Cisco told us wouldn't work otherwise.

I realize that the switch versions need to match, but the question is, which version should we work off to have use of the 10GB SFP card?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Stacking 24 And 48 Port 3750X Switches Not Working?

Dec 11, 2012

We purchased a number of 3750X 48 and 24 port switches for the College Campus. Am finally getting around to getting them inserted on the network. Working with a WS-3750X-48PF-S and a WS-3750X-24P-L. Have them stacked with the 10Gb uplink on the 48 port switch. Have not been having fun.In the boot sequence, the switches recognize they are stacked, but as soon as they finish boot, I get the message on the 48 port switch: “Stack Port 1 Switch 1 has changed to state down.” Then “Stack Port 2 Switch1 has changed to state down.” Am noticing that I have a message preceding that: “Major version mismatch with stack neighbor.”The 48 port is running c3750e-universalk9-mz.150-1.SE3, HBOOT 12.2(53r)SE2.The 24 port is running c3750e-unversalk9-mz.122-55.SE3, HBOOT 12.2(53r)SE2Most of our 3750X and older switches are running 122-55 or 122.58 code. IP base or Universal. There is speculation that the problem is the 24 Port is Lan base, as the part number might indicate. (WS-C3750X-24-P-L.... I think that is the part number) and the 48 is IP base. Both switches are Universal, and my understanding is that they don't care about LAN or IP Base until you enable a function that falls in the IP Base domain. Then I have to call Cisco Licensing.For these switches, LAN Base is fine, based on the boot message, I feel the real problem is 122-55 versus 150-1 in the stack. So.. the question is: Do I downgrade the 48 port to match what we have in our environment, and what is on the 24 port switch. Or... Upgrade the 24 port switch to match the 48 port switch and have an installation that is not consistent with our environment? I do have two more edge closets to install with this purchase of 3750X 48 port switches.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Stacking 3750g And 3750x - Hardware Version Mismatched

Jul 18, 2012

I am trying to stack a 3750g with a 3750x. At the moment they will not stack with their current IOS as the hardware version is mismatched.

According to various posts this is possible as long as the same IOS is in use. The following IOS are currently in use:

3750g     -     c3750-ipbaselmk9-tar.122-55.SE5
3750x     -     c3750e-ipbasek9-mz.150-1.SE3

I have tried to downgrade the IOS on the 'X' to 122-55.SE5 however, i get errors regarding firmware incompatibility.

I am unable to upgrade the IOS on the 'G' to 150-1.SE3, as the size of the IOS image is larger than the available flash (Version 15 IOS for the 3750G (c3750-ipbasek9-mz.150-1.SE3.bin) is 16,074,189 bytes whereas the 3750G has 16MB of flash memory or 15,998,976 bytes total which mean the IOS will not fit).

Has not actually stacked these devices successfully? I understand there may be license implications of upgrading to 15 but at the moment I just want them to stack!

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750X Power Needs For PoE

Mar 21, 2013

I am building a switch stack using 4 48 port 3750X switches that will also have the power stacked.  If I install a single 715W power supply in each switch will the stack support 802.3af accross all 48 ports on each switch?  My calculations are 48 ports x 15.4W which gives me almost 740W needed which is over hte 715W power supply.  I was reading somewhere were it mentioned that in a powerstack additional power can be drawn from the stack.  I know this will not work if you are trying to support power on all switches accross all ports but would it if say 2 of the 4 switches are needing to provide PoE accross all 48 ports?  If I say we can only use 24 ports per switch for PoE that drops the power need down to 370W which I believe should work.  Just trying to get a better understanding of PoE consumption.  Would the best solution be to just add a second power supply to each switch?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst 3750X With PoE Secondary Power Supply Options?

Jul 21, 2012

When quoting a Catalyst 3750X with PoE (WS-C3750X-48P-E) the Dynamic Configurator Tool allows to include as the secondary power supply option the Catalyst 3K-X 350W AC Secondary Power Supply (C3KX-PWR-350WAC/2), but the default included primary power supply is the Catalyst 3K-X 715W AC Power Supply (C3KX-PWR-715WAC). My questions are the following:

1. Will this combination of power supply work?

2. Will the C3KX-PWR-350WAC/2 be able to power up the switch if the primary power supply of 715W fails?

3. Will the PoE will be lost if the primary power supply fails and only the secondary power supply of 350W keeps working?

4. If this secondary power supply of 350W is not suitable for PoE, why it is available as a secondary power supply option in the Dynamic Configurator Tool for a PoE switch?

I then used CNA to map out the site.We have 1 main server room (at the top of the picture with the two 4507 cores and a number of fixed config 1U switches)And 3 further wiring rooms at other points in the building with fixed config 1U switches.

(And a wan link to this site)In my opinion the design as it stands is significantly flawed in redundacny with multiple points of failure, and its efficiency is very poor.
