We just received two Catalyst 3750X switches. Cisco's documentation provides cabling installs for StackPower in a three or more switch example. Need to clarify the cabling of the two cables between two switches? Having two cables with green and yellow on either side and a switch with both colors signified beside it is a little confusing especially when considering electricity.
View 1 RepliesI have a stack of 8 3750x switches connected via Stackwise. In addition, I have these switches configured as two Powerstacks. When I look at the Powerstacks, they are showing as being in power-sharing mode. When I look at the individual switches, they show as standalone. Right now, I have 1 switch in each powerstack that has two power supplies, and then the other three have a single power supply. Below is the output for "Show stack-power detail" as well as the Powerstack configurations.

In what order the 8 cables go into the octal plug.The cable is a X.21.DTE 8 LEAD OCTAL part No 72-1100-01. The cables are not in numerical order (as in 0 to 7 as per the serial ports). I'm trying to trace cables and don't have a spare cable to examine. So far I think the order is 0,4,5,1, 2,6,7,3?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSuppose I have a 3 member stack of 3750x switches. Members a, b and c.I have all 3 members stacked with all 3 *data* stacking cables in a daisy-chain topology. The 50 cm data stacking cable from switch a (on the very top) to switch c (on the very bottom) just barely reached.Of course, that means the 30 cm *power* stacking cable didn't reach between a & c. Right now, the power stacking cable goes from a to b, and then another cable from b to c. Leaving me with a useless extra 30 cm power stacking cable.
My question is, can switch "a" receive power from switch "c" through switch "b"? Is this just a big electrical "bus"? What if the power supply in switch "b" is removed?Just wondering if there is a need for me to get a longer power stacking cable (one of the 150 cm power stacking cables).
I have a customer that has a stack of 3750x switches installed in production and now would like to install the powerstack cables. The switches are in production and downtime would like to be avoided. Can you install the powerstack cables with the switches powered up? I would assume you can, but wanted to verify before doing so.

Now can I join those 2 cables by a coupler, if so will it increase latency, what type of crimping is required, straight through or cross cables. We recently purchased two 3750-X 48-port switches. We are in the process of connecting the Data Stack and StackPower cables. The question we have is what is the recommended Data Stack and Power Stack cable configuration if you only have two switches? All of the documentation that we have seen is for three or more switches.
Data Stack: Our assumption is that we will go from Stack 1 on the top switch to Stack 2 on the bottom switch. Do we need to then connect another cable from Stack 2 on the top switch to Stack 1 on the bottom switch? We would think not, but figure we should check. We plan on adding another three in the next budget year, which starts in May.
StackPower: Our assumption is that we will go from S-PWR on the top switch to S-PWR XPS on the bottom switch. Do we need to then connect another cable from S-PWR XPS on the top switch to S-PWR on the bottom switch? We would think not, but figure we should check.
I have a 3750X four-switch stack acting as the core of a fairly simple LAN. All I need to achieve (and this seems inordinately hard, but it is entirely likely that I'm just being dense) is to get access to the internet through my core switch, through the firewall and out through my VSAT. I've spoken at some length with the firewall providers (Cyberoam) and they tell me all I need to do when I migrate onto my new system (Cyberoam is currently in place at the entrance to our existing LAN) is change the local IP address of the Firewall, plug in the new switch to the LAN port, and away I go. Tried that, didn't work, so obviously I'm missing something.

Is there a special command you have to do on a port when using SM fiber? Do you think I need cross over fibers?
Also, should I be able to see a laser signal light like MM or is SM a different frequency so it's not as visible as MM?

I only have one machine with a serial port and whenever I try to connect to a router (I've tried multiple purchased from different sources) nothing happens on the screen. If I wait for a couple of seconds and hit enter I get the response shown on the screen in the screenshot I have inserted. If this image is too small I have also attached. looks like it has already asked me this but I am unable to see it. Shouldn't I see some information when I attempt to connect, some acknowledgement that I have connected? I have tried using both hyperterminal anbd PuTTy.

His theory: One of the computers need an ethernet card so 2 crossover cables can be plugged into it.(The MOBOs only have one port to plug in Cat5s)
My theory: Cut 2 crossover cables in half. And put the three ends together so the wires are touching each other, then tape it. For example green to green to green, orange to orange to orange, etc.Here's an example picture: Now I know my theory would work with audio but me co-trainee isn't so sure if it will work with networking.

My Router (Wrt54gs) also supports MDI-X, yet when I plug a straight through cable from port 4 on router to port 1 on the switch -> then a straight through from port 2 on the switch to my computer, I don't get an IP address.If I connect a crossover cable from the router to port 1 on D link switch -> then straight through from port 2 to computer, it works just fine.I am going to purchase an extra crossover cable to use for this but I'm really curious as to why it wont work this way? (the CAT6 runs would then be about the shortest they could get)So, I guess I need to know which can handle running parallel with power cables better, 25feet of RG6 or CAT6?The parallel with power cable is only for about 6-8 feet, but that's already more than it should be for CAT6.

I have a job which requires around 500' between switches, and am trying to find a clever way to bridge the gap. The span is direct-burial cat5e, and has very low bandwidth requirements. I know you can buy off-the-shelf range extenders, but they are expensive, so I thought maybe I could avoid it.
1. It my understanding that the lower speed protocols (10 Mbps rather that 100, 1000) have a longer maximum operating length, because they utilize a lower frequency and consequently see a lower impedance. If so, are there network switches that I can force to use the lower baseband frequencies?
2. Should I bother trying to find a cable with the lowest characteristic impedance (or will they all be similar)? Cat 5e is pretty good, yes?
3. Should I do half or full-duplex; is this something I can control as well?
4. What network switches are cheap and allow this type of configurability?
5. If I attach other switches to the ends of this 500' ethernet bridge with auto-negotiating feature, will there be any conflicts or they will all get along?
