my 3750-E Core Stack is connected to the Provider Router and is the DG for the internal LAN. I saw that the CPU is very high also in the night, but I found not the problem. I use an SVI to connect the provider due to HA reasons. I sniffered the network but saw no ecessive broadcaststorms. There was a PBR configured but I deleted it wihtout any success..

We are experiencing with high CPU input due to ARP input between 20:30 and 22:30 every day At this time we have a lot of backup operations. When I look the netflow report, I can't see anything anormal.
We are changing our backup server's NIC card from 1gig to 10Gig. The backup operation's traffic is high (approx 2Gbps level) but 6509 has to be handle this size of traffic.
We are using two 6509E in VSS mode and our image version is s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXJ.bin

We added Site02 for redundancy and DR. Also added new SAN and ESX hosts. The CPU on device Site01Server01 is not very happy when files are being transferred between the sites. Since the setup is the same at both sites, why is the problem only at site01?
Site02 is newer and we have two 3750X-24 with IOS 12.2(55)SE3 on ipservices, for site02server01; no problem.
Site01server01 is a stack of two 3750G-24PS with IOS 12.2(58)SE on ipservices.

What does RP drops entail? We are experiencing 0.23 % drops on an vlan int on one of our 6500. This interface is an L3 to a server-subnet. Doing a sh int vlan 238 switching shows 30935411 RP (Route Processing) drops. It was a bit unclear to me in the thread "Input queue drops on 6500 vlan interface" if RP drops was through the router, or to the router(mgmnt)?I can do a netdr to see what traffic goes to it. It should not generate CPU load, but I think I will wait until after hours before I try that command.
- do NETDR:
-- debug netdr cap rx vlan 238
-- show netdr cap

So, I am trying to limit the bandwidth used by this vlan. The service-policy output statement works, the service-policy input statement does not. My test is to get on that vlan and go to speedtest.net. My download speeds are about 3.5Mb/s, my upload speeds are about 20Mb/s.
it has something to do with this:

I feel that 3560 and 3750 perform differently with the following two commands:
srr-queue bandwidth shape 5 0 0 0
srr-queue bandwidth limit 50
On 3750, the bandwidth for queue 1 is limited to 100mbps x 50% / 5 = 10mbps
On 3560, the bandwidth for queue 1 is limited to the smaller value of BW / shape weight and BW x limit%.
Does it sound about right? is there a way to check for mls qos input queue drops? The show mls qos interface xxx stat only shows the output queue drops. Maybe for some reason the input queue never drops?

I have 2 6509-E chassis with SUP-720-VSS and classic line cards :-(. on October 2011 the switch reached 100% CPU on both devices and the entire network went down. Customer restarted the core so we lost all the log files and couldnt find out any root cause on the same. TAC engineer suggested to have some script configured on the system in case of CPU shooting up above 70%, it will create a file in flash and keep appending the logs to the same. Last week i got call from customer saying that the CPU again went high for around a minute on both the cores. Last time i added CoPP also on the switch in order to prevent the CPU reaching 100%. Still it went high and from the captured logs i saw that the process created the high CPU was Port Manager Per and SSH process. Attached the file created by the netdr capture command.

I have quite a few 2960's in a manufacturing environment that are experiencing a large number of Total Output Drops. The gigabit uplinks arn't even close to fully subscribed and if I'm lucky they run at a peak of 4 - 5 Mb on a 1Gb uplink. Something really funky is going on. The individual switchports seem to have the total output drops and the uplinks at 1Gb do not have any output drops and never peak above 20Mb over a 3 month span on a 1Gb link.

We are seeing some high output drops on our 3560G's and I'm wondering if there is anything I can do to solve this, or should I just be looking at an upgrade.I do not have qos enabled:
do-rs-ah-3560g#show mls qos
QoS is disabled
QoS ip packet dscp rewrite is enabled
I don't have anything special configured apart from some trunk ports, otherwise its mostly defaults.Should I enable qos and tweak the buffering?

i recently identified all switch ports in my network on 6509 core were Transmitting Mail server Exchange traffic that was destined for Unicast NLB cluster. and it was impacting various HOST machines NIC cards/performance.After reading this article, i moved NLB CAS servers behind a dedicated cisco Switch.
[URL]
Now My core switch can learn mac address across its trunk port where CAS servers are connected on dedicated switch. but still i can see traffic Transmitting out to my all switch ports of same VLAN ( same as NLB VLAN).

I have having two Cisco 6509 both working are my main Core Switches with which I have all my Layer 2 VLANs configured and then distributed thru the trunks links to all the Access Switches. I have L3- Vlans also configured on them with which one switch in primary and the other is secondary. All of sudden last night I got this message on my core switch 2 this for VLAN 1 which is my users LAN, how can I check as to what would have caused the core switch 2 HSRP to be active and then in standby
*Nov 5 23:33:29.296: %HSRP-5-STATECHANGE: Vlan1 Grp 5 state Standby -> Active

*Nov 5 23:33:41.280: %HSRP-5-STATECHANGE: Vlan1 Grp 49 state Speak -> Standby
Also last night i got call from office saying that we are getting huge delay in pinging the default gateway of the user LAN which is the same vlan as the above and it was just for few minutes and then it was back to normal and now when I came to office and check there were no logs in both the core switches. When I checked the cpu utlization it was showing me high on both the switches how can I check as to what would have caused the CPU utilisation to go high all of suddedn?

I just got a Cisco 2960G 24-port gigabit switch so that our HP servers can have a Gigabit connection to the network. I moved 2 servers to it (HP Proliant DL380's) but they don't actually seem to be able to achieve even close to 1000Gbps. I ran same some LAN bandwidth tests and it was showing only around 200-300 Mbps between all of them. I also ran a network stress test utility, LAN Tornado, and it was showing packet loss as high as 60% when on gigabit, and only .07% when on 100Mbps.
-Both the NIC's and the switch ports are set to 1000/Full
-Currently using Cat5e cabling no more than 25Ft in length (I know Cat6 would be better but Cat5e is supposed to support Gigabit)
-All servers are on the same VLAN
Here are the port statistics when running just a stress test @ 10Mbps that had a 45% packet loss. What's odd though is when I set the servers and switches to 100Mbps, I get less than 1% packet loss.

Today I've received reports of slow internet access/activity and have noticed myself that it seems a bit slow today. On the dashboard of our asa 5510 the "outside interface" traffic usage is running constantly high. It's at the top of the graph. How can I tell what is causing the spike in utilization. It usually runs at about 1500-2000 Kbps, and now it's up over 10,000.

Our 2811 Edge router is having extremely high CPU problems. IP Input is consuming 70% of the process during business hours. Cisco express forwarding is enabled. It only shows 50% but its currently before business hours. Id say even 50% is still high.

I have this topology in part of my networ:k
Cisco7200---Cisco6500---Cisco3560---LAN1
|
Cisco3560
|
LAN2
All devices are interconected via optical 1Gb/s links. There is no QoS implemented on any device and all VLANs are allowed on all interfaces.
Also all links are trunks (with many VLANs)
In LAN1 there was a layer 2 broadcast-storm and 4000packets/s was comming to rest of the network (in one particular VLAN).
1) 7200 with G1 should be able to handle traffic up to 500Mb/s, but a lot of users experienced drops on traffic via 7200.
(CPU load was around 10%).
2) Why do I have input drops on 7200 on link toward 6500 if CPU was normal. Broadcast comming to this interfaces were cca 4kpps. But since it's destination is not on router these packets should be rejected on interface controller. Is that right? (7200 doesn't even has dot1q subinterface in that VLAN but since 6500 allow all VLANs on its trunk these packets reach 7200)
3) Why do I have output drops on Cisco 6500 (it is here as layer 2 device only)? It is max 160Mb/s in output direction. It has WS6724 card with DFC (there is no oversubscription).. Shouln't 6500 send traffic as fast as interface allows (up to 1Gb/s). Am I righ't?
4) After all how coul'd 6500 now if 7200 can't handle these traffic?Output drops should be only seen if QoS is enabled (i.e. shaping), or if there is oversubscription on the linecard?

Vlan interface would be dropping packets on the input queue? Refer to the drops/flushes below. This is from a 6500 with a Sup720, there are a number of vlans on it. This 6500 and it's HSRP partner are exhibiting the same symptoms on all the vlans I bothered to check. This particular vlan is quite lightly used, there are only about fifteen user PC's (each with 100 Mb interfaces) on it.
There is a bit of information on input queue drops on Cisco, but this is focused on physical interfaces where I can understand some packets being dropped. I would think that Vlan interfaces would have different issues.I note the "no buffer" errors as well, that also concerns me, especially as that counter is quite close to the "flushes".
