in both case some times i obtain lowing traffic on interface and highest cpu - to 100%
after clear cef linicard i obtain growing traffic and cpu 0%

Feb 6, 2012We are experiencing with high CPU input due to ARP input between 20:30 and 22:30 every day At this time we have a lot of backup operations. When I look the netflow report, I can't see anything anormal.
We are changing our backup server's NIC card from 1gig to 10Gig. The backup operation's traffic is high (approx 2Gbps level) but 6509 has to be handle this size of traffic.
We are using two 6509E in VSS mode and our image version is s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXJ.bin

May 2, 2013I noticed on the 2960 switches we have deployed that are running the latest IOS, 12.2(58)SE2, memory utilization is really high (almost 80 percent). I have not noticed any side effects but I wanted to verify this is acceptable. My question is does the high memory utilization matter? I see this may be related to bug CSCtw83946 but no resolution is mentioned.
I did some testing various IOS revisions and below is what I have found using a WS-C2960-48TC-L with default configuration and only my laptop connected to a switchport in vlan1. You will notice memory utilization will grows with each version but jumps drastically with 58. One difference with 58 I needed to use a different command to retrieve memory utilization. The output was gathered by pasting the output of the show command into the Cisco Output Interpreter on their website.

i want to understand why this 2 proceses (DHCPD & ARP input) taking more memory?High CPU: We also facing intermediate high CPU utilization (above 95%). When CPU is high there were 2 processes consuming more CPU are 'Spanning Tree' (about 20%) & ARP Input (about 66%). we also checked the ARP entries, there were 1500 ARP entries & 2 incomplete ARP (out of 6000 ARP supported)

I am seeing high memory utilisation, it seems to sit fairly stable and I do not see an increase but this has only been running a few days. No errors or performance issues. Should this be a cause for concern?

Jun 11, 2013We had a stack of 4 qty 3750g running IP base on ver 12.2.32, then installed a 3750x to the stack and upgraded the whole stack to 15.0.2 SE3. In doing so, we noticed that the memory utilization jumped from 60-70% to 83-84%.
We had the same issue occur when upgrading to 15.0.2 SE3 on another stack that was 6 qty 3750g running ip-services, but this one jumped to 90%. On the 6 qty stack, we downgraded to 12.2.55 and the memory util went back down to 60-70%.
On the mixed stack, we replaced the 3750x with another 3750g and downgraded the whole stack to 12.2.55, however, the memory utilization did not drop down. As far as I can tell, no config changes have changed from the original IOS.

The current active template on the switch is desktop default and we are running EIGRP on the switch with large routing table so we get the TCAM error that a specific prefix cannot be programmed in TCAM memory so it will be software forwarded.%PLATFORM_UCAST-4-PREFIX: One or more, more specific prefixes could not be programmed into TCAM and are being covered by a less specific prefix, and the packets may be software forwarded
This error is quite frequent on a daily basis. My question is that will this error create a high CPU situation and affect traffic processing on the stack causing ESX Hosts to become unresponsive?

Apr 3, 2012We are running a stack of 2 WS-C3750X-24S-E's with IOS version 12.2(58)SE2 and we are seeing continuous high processor utilization involving the hl3mm process. The stack is configured for PIM Sparse mode, with 2 upstream Nexus 5596'es acting as both RP candidates and as BSRs. The hl3mm process generally runs at about 19% but can spike up into the 60% range.Symptoms on the 3750X are spiking latency and sluggish CLI perfformance. I thought at first that we might be running into SDM limits, but the "show platform tcam utilization" show that we are far under the limits of the default SDM template. Performing the "show ip pim (vrf name) bsr-router" command freezes the system and takes 20-30 seconds to return results. Similiarly configured WS-C3750G-12S running 12.2(55)SE3 does not exhibit these same issues.

Mar 9, 2013We recently installed Cisco 6509-E with dual Sup 720-BXL. We are using this switch on internet Edge. Internet connection is terminating on 10GIG fiber port.We do have following line cards installed.
1. 10 GIG * 4 port line card
2. 1 GIG * 8 port line card
3. Empty
4. Empty
5. Sup 720-3BXL
6. Sup 720-3BXL
7. 1 GIG * 48 ports
8. 1 GIG * 48 ports
9. 1 GIG * 48 ports
We do have 2 GB internet pipe.We are running load test sending http port 80 request and when load reach to arround 100 to 200 mbps and connections from out side to inside 80,000 switch start reponding very very slow and start packet loss and when I try to ping from one server to second server it show normal ping but if I tried to ping gateway IP of server which is SWITCH IP it show packet loss and very high letancy.
Switch also throw message "No memory available: Update of NVRAM configuration failed"

Mar 3, 2012I have 2 6509-E chassis with SUP-720-VSS and classic line cards :-(. on October 2011 the switch reached 100% CPU on both devices and the entire network went down. Customer restarted the core so we lost all the log files and couldnt find out any root cause on the same. TAC engineer suggested to have some script configured on the system in case of CPU shooting up above 70%, it will create a file in flash and keep appending the logs to the same. Last week i got call from customer saying that the CPU again went high for around a minute on both the cores. Last time i added CoPP also on the switch in order to prevent the CPU reaching 100%. Still it went high and from the captured logs i saw that the process created the high CPU was Port Manager Per and SSH process. Attached the file created by the netdr capture command.

I have L3- Vlans also configured on them with which one switch in primary and the other is secondary. Also last night i got call from office saying that we are getting huge delay in pinging the default gateway of the user LAN which is the same vlan as the above and it was just for few minutes and then it was back to normal and now when I came to office and check there were no logs in both the core switches. When I checked the cpu utlization it was showing me high on both the switches how can I check as to what would have caused the CPU utilisation to go high all of suddedn?

I exchanged it to another router the 2811 and it presented the same results. I read the cisco document about Router Performance.
And it speaks about the 2801 supports 46 Mbps using CEF/Fast Switching and 1.5Mbps using only Process Switching, and 2811 supports 61.44 CEF and 1.5Mbps Process Switching.
I need to know if the NAT Process is process switching or CEF Switching. Because if it was process switching the router is working in the max capacity and i will need to exchange the hardware to a better hardware.

Dec 27, 2010We have a Cisco 886 configured with two WAN's (ATM0 connected to a DSL line and Fa3 connected to a CMTS modem).We're running DMVPN over the Cable network and GetVPN over the DSL line. When the DSL line is down we see a lot of CPU peaks up to 90%.The CPU peaks are caused by the process "DSL state machine". As soon as the DSL line has sync and the ATM0 interface goes UP the CPU peaks disappear. What we'd like to know is if this constant extra CPU load will have an impact on other resources like normal routing & switching or more specific IPSEC handling. Is it for example possible that establishing an IPSEC tunnel will fail because of the CPU peaks?
