Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6509-E / No Memory Available - Update Of NVRAM Configuration Failed
Mar 9, 2013
We recently installed Cisco 6509-E with dual Sup 720-BXL. We are using this switch on internet Edge. Internet connection is terminating on 10GIG fiber port.We do have following line cards installed.
We do have 2 GB internet pipe.We are running load test sending http port 80 request and when load reach to arround 100 to 200 mbps and connections from out side to inside 80,000 switch start reponding very very slow and start packet loss and when I try to ping from one server to second server it show normal ping but if I tried to ping gateway IP of server which is SWITCH IP it show packet loss and very high letancy.
Switch also throw message "No memory available: Update of NVRAM configuration failed"
Recently i atsrt having problems with my cisco router 1811/k9, apparently was booting continiosly when restarted.
After i connected my console i found the problem while booting:
DDR memory test failed. Resetting the router ...
I tried to contact cisco TAC, but i need a reseller contract number to place a ticket, i do not have a resller contract number as my router was bought more than two years ago. I called cisco support and they told me to contact my reseller, my reseller told me to contact cisco so i am in a eternal loop of forwarding phone calls...
I have 6509 with dual sups, the secondary sup has failed and I am not able to bring it up even after reboot. the state says unknown/other. What that state" unknown" means?. I could not find any documentation about this state. [code]
Got call saying some users were down, found root cause, card dead on a 6509.

I am position to migrate from CatOS 6509 switch to native IOS 6509 switch. long time ago, there was some site to convert automatically based on copy and paste onto the tool, but i can not find.
Does anybody know how to convert CatOS configuration to Native IOS configuration ? It is not IOS change, but it is configuration convert.
I have a Sup32 that I suspect has faulty NVRAM (e.g., I am unable to "wr mem" on the device - it states resource is busy but no other active connections exist). Prior to replacing the supervisor engine I'd like to take a crack at formatting NVRAM to see if it resolves the issue. This supervisor does not have a CF card installed, thus no Disk0:. Within the CLI, I am presented two options with the "format" command - bootflash: and sup-bootflash:. Bootflash: does not have any data on it, however, sup-bootflash: contains my IOS image. I believe that both of these locations are simply directories within NVRAM.
I am planning on upgrading my 6509s to use VSS within the next few weeks. I have checked all of the hardware and software prerequisites, and we are good to go from that perspective.I do have more of a procedural question- my switches are already configured and in production, VLANs, HSRP (3 IP addresses per VLAN- 1 per switch plus virtual IP), etc. Does the VSS upgrade take all of this into account and rewrite the configuration correctly, or should I plan on redoing the entire config for the switches after the upgrade?
I came across a Catalyst 6509 switch configuration and have noticed some strange thing on the ether channel configuration side, it appears that it have interface port-channel 2 and port-channel 2A, what was that mean? its the ether channel not forming and joined together?
What wrong with the below configuration that cause it to automatic created another port-channel (2A) interface in this case?
Last night I've upgraded a catlyst 6509 (non-redundant), during the upgrade I# run into the problem that the 6509 only wants to boot from sup-bootflash, and that it took an old image from sup-bootflash.I deleted this old image and then the node came into rommon mode. There I did the boot command and refered to the correct image on disk1:Now the boot succeeded. Just in time before I run out of my maintenance window.
I did some investigation and looked into the supervisor (using attach 5 and remote command switch show boot) and detected that it's configuration register is on 0X2101 (This is because I run into problems a week ago because of a corrupt flash disk and changed this in rommon mode , without changing it back, I'm afraid I'm not totally known with the 6509)
Question is now how can I change the configuration register back to 0x2102 without any service interruption (It will cost me quit some goodwill if I have to boot the node for the third time in three weeks)?
I upgraded the IOS on my 887VA router which is not yet in service. The next day I did a cold boot and made some changes. Then, when I wrote them this warning popped up which seems to imply I need to recreate my configuration from scratch in order to avoid potential issues. Is that the correct interpretation of this message/scenario? I have a two fiber connection from our Central Office(6513) to Remote office (6509). I have a requirement that on the remote office if one of the fiber goes down, the second fiber should work as a failover. I am planning to use SUP720-3B SFP to connect to the CO.
Can I connet one fiber to Sup720-3b G5/1 & another fiber connection to G5/2? or Can I connet one fiber to Sup720-3b G5/1 & another fiber connection to G6/2? I am running EIGRP between sites. Any sample config.
I am having Cisco 3845 series router with c3900-universalk9-mz.SPA.151-4.M2.bin IOS . I want to install new Licence on it for DATA. When i am trying to install licence on it i am facing the error "% Error: License installation failed with error: XML parsing failed".
I currently have a couple of 6509 chassis (router/switches) with the following hardware blades:
x3 48 ports x1 NAM x2 Sup720 Running 12.2(18)SXF3
I am keeping the four Sup720 modules and have purchased new versions of the others blades including two new 6509-E chassis? Can I take my stand-by Sup720 out of the production machine and insert it into the new chassis?

I am running IOS version 8.0(5) in cisco ASA 5520. This issue i am facing is that when the memory utilzation reaches 49 percent, the web-vpn users are not able to login as they are getting a blank page. The only error which is getting in the output " sh mem webvpn allobjects" is ERROR: Memory allocation failed?
I got an asa5510. After problems with ipsec connections the log said :
LU allocate xlate failed this error repeats every minute. At the cisco site i found the following :
explantion : stateful failover failed to allocate a translation (xlate) slot record recommended Action : check the available memory by using the show memory command to make sure that the security appliance had free memory in the system. If no memory is available, add more memory
We have a Cisco 881 router, which is crashing. We have seen that the ARP cache fills up so much it causes things to crash, our phones go down.. We dont know why this however IP CEF seems to be doing it, when we disable it goes away however disabling IP CEF causes our L2TP tunnel to become inoperable also. So why does IP CEF cause thousands of AR entries and how can we limit that!? Below is the error, sample of the ARP cache and our config. You will notice we also have a /31 given to us on WAN interface, this was given to us by our service provider. This is really strange I cant find other examples on internet.
The error:
Nov 1 04:21:57.474: %SYS-2-MALLOCFAIL: Memory allocation of 65536 bytes failed from 0x81F083F4, alignment 16 Pool: Processor Free: 55176 Cause: Not enough free memory Alternate Pool: I/O Free: 2352 Cause: Not enough free memory
I am currently getting a strange error when trying to use and crypto services on our ASA 5520 (8.0.3)Initially I observed that a connected VPN had dropped. Then when I attempted to use ASDM or SSH I was blocked.
In the end I opened telnet as a test and this was successful. Syslog also shows that traffic is passing as normal.The only obvious error I can see when observing various debug traces is this;
FW02# CTM: rsa session with no priority allocated @ 0xCF1FBBA0 CTM: Session 0xCF1FBBA0 uses a nlite (Nitrox Lite) as its hardware engine CTM: rsa context allocated for session 0xCF1FBBA0 CTM: rsa session with no priority allocated @ 0xCE7A5EA8
According to my boss every 3 to 4 months he has to restart our 2821 with a 16-esw module installed because of a low memory issue dealing with CEF. Here is the exact error message.

Today, one of our Cisco 3750 got unmanaged from NOC, we were able to ping the switch, also, traffic was flowing fine but not able to telnet or local login. On trying to login through console following messages were coming:
%% Low on memory; try again later %% Low on memory; try again later %% Low on memory; try again later %% Low on memory; try again later %% Low on memory; try again later %% Low on memory; try again later
[code].....
We given power on reset, after which we were able to login switch again. I wanted to know the actual reason behind it and if there is any other way to recover switch other than power reset.?
have 3 Catalyst 3750 in same stack, the IOS version is 12.2(53)SE2. Today we can not telnet/ssh to this switch, but ping is ok, and switch function is ok. I try to access the console port, it show "low on memory, try again later". After I reboot the master switch in the stack, the master switch change to another switch, then I can telnet/ssh to this switch. I check the Ciscoworks server syslog report, there are many MAC address flapping error message, and I beleive the MAC address flapping occured before several weeks. ( the G2/0/15 & G3/0/15 is connect to a VMware ESX server and the EtherChannel config mismatch with this Catalyst 3750 switch ) How to mention the root cause of the "low on memory" problem and what is the abnormal memory usage ( free memory percentage below ?% )?
i have a Ws-C3550-24-Emi switch and i need to upgrade its flash memory to 32Mb. I couldn't find any documents in cisco website about the memory upgrade guideline. Possible to upgrade this switch to 32Mb? If so, what's the max of memory i can upgrade? and the part number for this type of memory?
