I came across a Catalyst 6509 switch configuration and have noticed some strange thing on the ether channel configuration side, it appears that it have interface port-channel 2 and port-channel 2A, what was that mean? its the ether channel not forming and joined together?
What wrong with the below configuration that cause it to automatic created another port-channel (2A) interface in this case?

I was configured ether channel between two cisco 2960s series switches. It is working properly. I was replaced two cables in etherchannel. Now one link working remaining link is down(both cables are working cables only). Below are ether channel details.

The issue is when is shutdown eth0 on the server, the corresponding interface on the switch (gi1/0/1) does not go down, show up and running.
We were going to create a 2 port, layer 3 etherchannel between a 1002 router and a 3750X layer 3 core switch. We wanted to create bunled link between them but, now we are going to be putting a Riverbed device between the router and core switch. Because of this, would it be best to abandon the idea of creating a layer 3 etherchannel and just have 2 links from the router and core switch and have traffic load balance between the 2 links?The Riverbed will have 2 connections into it from the Core switch and 2 connections into it from the 1002 router. I was hoping to keep the layer 3 etherchannel but, do you think it would be best to create 2, /29 nets and have the router/Riverbed and Core Switch/Riverbed load balance.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi want to realize a 20gb ring stp with 6 3750x stacked by 2. I want to install 2 3750x stacked configured in hsrp mode with other 2 3750 stacked. These 2 different stack are interconnected by a cross-stack ether channel 20Gb fiber. On the other side of the room i want to create a new stack with 2 3750x with cross-stack ether channel 20gb connected with the previous 2 stacks. So, in total 3 different cross-stack ether channel 20Gb stacks interconnected creating a ring stp of 20 Gb.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an 891W that I initially configured using CCP Express (2.5). So it has a WAN IP set, and through CCP Express I had enabled via the checkboxes the various default settings for security. This includes zone-based firewall. I then added a number of NAT entries in the setup wizard.
What never occured to me at the time was that I should have added entries that allow for remote access. So it seems I've locked myself out of accessing the router via the WAN interface even though I know it's IP. I'm sure it's just a matter of adding port exceptions for SSH and/or whatever port(s) CCP uses.
So I"m wondering what the proces woudl be. In the IOS while showing the running config., I see pages and pages of class-map stuff which at present I don't know enough about to risk editing anything directly. But maybe I don't have to? What would be the best way to, for example, enable SSH access through the firewall? I already have transport input ssh set on the interface itself so I believe it's ready to allow the connection, just that I can't get to it via WAN int. so I assume it's the firewall.
I try to connect a cisco blade switch 3020 to Nexus 2232 with etherchannel, but when I connect the second link a obtain flapping on vlans. [code] why the vlans are flapping ? it's something wrong on the config ? [code]

Now I want to make ether channel on switch 1 whcih has 24 fast etherenet ports. Can I make port 1- 8 as one ether channel which are connected to users or i can only make ethere channel of ports that are connectd to other switchs. If I can, how the other switchs will comnicate with the switch ports bundalled in the ether channel in switch 1.

We are using CSS 11503 with one 16FE line card. We have connected 3 servers with redundant link. So FE1-2 in Server1, FE 3-4 in Server2 and FE5-6 in Server3. Our system team has configured APA in their servers as they are using HP-Ux.
1) Do we need to do any configuration at line card.
2) Do we need to do ether-channel at loadbalancer end. if yes, can you share me any cisco doc on how to do it.
A site that i am responsible for has the following equipment installed:
2 x 3750G Switches configured as a stack using Stackwise - Collapsed Core/Distribution Layer
5 x 2960G Switches as Access Layer switches
WAN connections into the Core/Distribution Layer are all Gigabit Ethernet over Fibre.This is a dedicated CCTV Network with 50 Cameras all streaming video into the Core (decoders connected to access switches)Each 2960G has 2 links to the Core/Distribution 3750G Switches, 1 to each switch - Gigabit.I'm running rapid-pvst on all switches, so spanning tree is blocking one of the ports and effectively halving the 2 gig bandwidth. Next year our customer is going to add in a further 50 - 60 cameras.After monitoring the current loading on the ports in use, we have suggested to the customer that the 2 connections to each should be Ether-channeled together. First interface takes commands no problem, keep getting the message that etherchannel cannot be configured across different switches in a stack when i try to put the second interface commands on.
I have 2 Cisco 6509 switches linked together via single Fibre as a trunk.I want to change this to a port channel where I will add another 3 fibre ports to the port channel but what order do I do this to minimise any disruption.
1-Configure PortChannel and add the 3 new ports, this will bring up the Port Channel but what effect will this have on traffic currently going over the single Trunk link? Will spanning tree go mad, how will switches react?
2-Convert existing Trunk link to Portchannel then add in new ports to PortChannel, I guess in doing this there will be a small hit on traffic as it changes to a port channel.

Previously i were thinking that EoBC used only for SCP and SLP protocol. In addition i found other article (but not on cisco site, heh) where stays that The Results bus is a control plane, while the C (EoBC) bus is more of an "admin plane", thus you will never see data packets (such as CDP, SNMP, etc.) going over the R or C bus.
So there is a big contradiction between those two statements. How to prove one of those and if first one right, what meaned under the packets that are destined for the switch in it? SCP and SLP or other traffic as well?
we have currently a configuration with 3 bonded (link aggregation) channels, each delivering 1 Gb/s uplink, providing a total of 3 Gb/s uplink. Due to a recent network upgrade, we can now add more channels to the same group in order to have a total of 9 Gb/s uplink, meaning that we should bond toegether 9 channels. When we tried to change the old configuration in order to include six new channels to the bondend group we noticed 2 things: one channel was left in standby (blinking orange led),no increase in the uplink bandwidth semmed to happen,By looking around it looks like the channel group is limited to a maximum of 8 channels [*].

The network is a hybrid of collapsed core (Core to access) as well as a three layer design (Core/Distro/Access) for connectivity to the Data Centre, Internet, Wireless Blocks etc.The core of the network contains two 6509-E switches interconnected on a Layer 3 Port channel (no VSS). Access Layer switches (3750-X series running Stackwiseplus protocol) connect to the core switches over p2p routed links and Distribution layer switches (3750X stackwiseplus) provide connectivity to the Data centre, Internet, wireless blocks etc.
The access and distribution switch stacks(Cisco 3750-X) are set up with two or three member switches with uplinks multihomed to the primary and secondary core switch with each uplink included in EIGRP. In each of the stacks, one of the switches controls the operation of the stack, which will be the stack master.As the Cisco Stackwise architecture is not SSO-capable but NSF aware, all Layer 3 fuctions must be re-established during a master switch outage. To minimize control plane impact and improve Layer3 convergence, uplinks should be diverse and originate from the member switches instead of the Master switches in the respective stack. This is as per Cisco recommended design solution.The above solution can be setup if there are more than two switches in the stack. i.e. uplinks are configured on the backup member switch modules.
1.But what about stack with two switches..Which switch should be set up as the Master for a two member stack with uplinks to the core primary and secondary from each switch(Master and Backup)
2. For Layer 3 routing, does the routing takes precedene over switch failures? Say for eg. In a two member stack, the master switch with uplink to primary fails, does EIGRP provide a fast convergence to route traffic via backup secondary and does not wait for the control plane on the switch stack to converge? All the access to core links will be set up for ECMP.

and i see output "show interface Po4A" up up on switch-1, "show interface Po4B" up up on switch-2
5.- In the show running-config not appear configured Po4A and Po4B. it only show on outputs
6.- Po4A and Po4 was not configured on neither switches, my question is why appear Po4A and Po4B on switch-1 and switch-2 respectively? and why Po4 appear in down down.
7.- I solved this issue by shutdown and not shutdown to the interfaces on both routers, currently all is OK.
There is a cisco ws-c6509,recently it appear error log “%FABRIC-SP-6-TIMEOUT_ERR: Fabric in slot 5 reported timeout error for channel 11 (Module 3, fabric connection 1)”. When I reload the device,the error log disappear.But a few days later,it appears again.I try to replace the slot 3 (WS-X6704-10GE),the error log continues.The IOS version is 's72033_rp-ADVIPSERVICESK9_WAN-M), Version 12.2(18)SXF8"

Does anybody know how to convert CatOS configuration to Native IOS configuration ? It is not IOS change, but it is configuration convert.
I am getting alarms on Solarwind indicating interface down on "GigabitEthernet 4/7 - Gi4/d1" and "GigabitEthernet 4/8 - Gi4/d2" from our core switch 6509.Remote login to the switch does not show the interfaces when I do the "sh run" command. Now I am at site trying to identify and diagnose this fault.Looking at the numbering on the switch, it indicates to me the card where these alarms come from is from the 'intrusion dectection module'
how I may login and identify this interfaces and rectify these alarms.
I have trunk etherchannel ports 47,48 which both have Vlans allowed on trunk 70,71. Everything works pretty fine. Now I am trying to add a new VLAN 72 to these ports.

I know there are some line cards on the 6500 that do not play well with each other when trying to setup an etherchannel using two different line cards on the same chassis. I always thought it was line cards of different type, i.e. 6400 with a 6700 but these two line cards are exactly the same model with the same code level.
1) Are the error messages below from this incompatibility between line cards and etherchannel creation?
2) How to fix if the answer to #1 is yes?
3) What line cards work with which for etherchannel creation?
Is it possible to configure a cross stack etherchannel between 2 SG500 (in stack) and 1 SG200/SG300?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI am building a new network and intended on using the min-link feature on my port-channels between a 3750-X series switch and Nexus 4k.
However reading further into this it seems this feature is only supported on higher end models. I cannot find any reference to the min-links feature in the 3750-X configuration guide. Is this an available feature?
The 3750-X model is WS-C3750X-24T-L running IOS 12.2(55)SE3 IP Services
My thoughts is that the is only an LACP supported feature so I may not see the command until I have entered an LACP specific command on the port-channel but unfortunately I do not have a 3750X to verify this on at present.
I have a pair of 6500's setup with VSS and there is currently only one link between then. However one end of the link is on Po10 and the other end is on Po25. If I move the Po25 over to Po10, will things break? It seems to be working fine now. I'm about to add a second link and I'm concerned about the current configuration. It makes more sense to me to have both ends of the same link on the same port-channel ID. I've seen documentation which states otherwise however.

1. we will insert new VS-S720-10G into the slot 6
2. then we will remove the faulty VS-S720-10G from the slot 5

Our customer is willing to have a Cisco Nexus 5020 to provide server connectivity and this Nexus would go connected to their core switch 6509. They are concern about Spanning tree compatibility between the Nexus and the 6509. Are they fully compatible for Spanning tree?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am doing image upgrade on Catalyst 6509-E. During TFTP image transfer to sup-bootflash I always see !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!o!!!!!!!!!! "o" out of sequence packet. Although the image size seems to be correct at the end but there is always some "o" packets.
I am assuming not, but I haven't tried loading with the image after seeing this.
Any sample qos configuration that is enabled on a 6509 for voip ? it would be nice if its a auto-qos . I do not have an available 6509 to try this.
